When things like this happen I totally understand why D&P have such a small circle of yt friends. In general I get the feeling of resentment towards D&P. I think it’s pretty obvious that the reason they/the phandom gets treated like that it’s not just because it can be quite annoying, but also because D&P are really successful in what little they do. I mean they are these two guys who hardly upload content to their channels, who don’t even have that many subscribers yet they’re very relevant. This means people will publicly speak very well of them but they will also publicly shame the fan base that makes them famous, and at the same time use them to get views/be relevant.

I always thought that d&p put up with the phandom because they had to, but since the protip situation I’ve been thinking that maybe Dan (and perhaps phil? jesus you can’t ever know with him smh) rather than feeling “embarrassed” (wich is what these people lowkey want when they make this kind of remarks) he is owning it. I would even go as far as to say he enjoys it. Maybe he actuyally wants to be a cult leader.
I don’t know if any of this makes sense. It’s really late I should go to sleep.

This is one of the reason why I feel attracted to . I find it very fascinating how with this amount of followers, they have a very dedicated following. When other youtubers skip their weekly upload schedule, even dedicated fans will lose interest, but deppy manage to pull it off with their no schedule principle and there are hardly any fans walking away. Phandom is really a hole you can't escape from.

I don't know, it's bizarre, and I kinda want to be a part of this bizarre community.

yes, the way Dan's built the fandom is so fascinating to me, because the way he did it (by referencing the shows and stuff with most fandoms, and also talking about shipping, which only people who were addicted to fandoms did) was basically genius.

I have absolutely no doubt that he loves the phandom and the power he has over it (and he is not afraid to use it, as we saw in the seven second challenge thing), even though he is slightly scared of it, or was in the beginning (when he had stopped giving opinions).

This same dedicated fans are also what makes the staying power of the phandom so great, because people in fandoms are used to things like hiatuses and stuff, and know how to entertain themselves, which other youtube fans have no patience for.

sorry, I am a sociology nerd, so this subject is what makes me geek out the most

what made me understand how much Dan actually likes the Phandom, and also made me a bit proud, is one time in a liveshow he said something along the lines, that he has an audience who are "not used to put up with anybody's bullshit" and i thought, WELL, that's a trait for the phandom that has always caught my eye.

dan and phil are not really the kind to be associated with confrontation, and even less with harsh opinions, discussion and generally just standing up for any kind of shit, yet the phandom as a community is basically what we're known for.

Imagine the TABINOF drama last year, I cant imagine any other fanbase being self aware enough to actually give shit to the people they're supposed to be supporting. I just happen to not see the correlation between this attitudes that we all seem to have, with dan and phil's internet portrayal. I

But although the phandom can sometimes be cringe or even infuriating they never seem to hold it against it 'us' at all. They don't have to keep up to date with the latest phandom trends and memes, but they do it anyway.

At the same time, they don't do that thing where they let fans think they're closer to them than they actually are. There's no 'Oh we're a family! I'll be the big brother/sister that you never had.' nor do they pretend to be besties with their audience. They remain at a safe distance and make money from us, but they show appreciation with those little things. That's far more valuable to me than when a YouTuber is always like 'You guys are like family to me uwu < 333 now plz buy this shirt that says how much of a family we are' and sometimes makes a dreadful sappy and fake 10 minute speech in a video about how much they love their audience.

There's a reason every other YouTube 'obsession' I've had since 2009 has fizzled out after a few months or even weeks, but these assholes still have me in their lane after four years.


Also, Hazel and Dodie should take Carrie and form their condescending and passive aggressive 'I work harder/am better than others' club. I'm beyond tired of all of them.

It all comes down to what other Youtubers are constantly saying about them. They're good people who put real effort and heart into what they do. No matter how much we make fun of them we all know that and love them for it and that's why we're still here.

I find it funny how other youtubers always end up making it about looks and shipping opportunities when, and I don't remember what the actuals numbers were in the poll conducted back in gigi, but from what I've seen a large portion of us aren't sexually attracted to them at all and would be perfectly content with them not being a thing. It's hardly a reach, because it is a contributing factor to their success, but not for their staying power.

It's just weird that it's the first thing they "attack". It's almost as if they're a little bit afraid of considering that s content is a huge factor to their success so they try to diminish/ignore that.

I love the sense of community they've created on us without making it weird with the "ur family!!!" thing cause that's just plain condescending.

It's not that weird when you consider the fact that any fandom with a female majority is treated terribly by the mainstream. What people are trying to prove is that women, especially teenage women are shallow and superficial, and they only care about looks, and working on that stereotype is something that makes me really mad.

and, the park about Dan and Phil having fewer YT friends because of their massive fanbase makes a lot of sense to me, and I never thought about it that way. It's very interesting.

I think if we exclude the factor that phan has to be together, Dan is actually Daenerys, and Phil is more like Jon Snow.

First Dan came to fame depended on Phil, just like Daenerys with Drogo, but after that, Dan thrown a massive tantrum just to show people that he is a strong independent white boy, just like Daenerys walked into the fire and became the mother of Dragon. In a way the phandom are his dragons and his army and his citizens. Daenerys has to make difficult decisions and battle with her self doubt, just like Dan with his crisis, only he is not as badass and Daenerys.

Phil on the other hand, he is a youtube dinosaur just like Snow who came from a old nobel family, most of old school youtubers diminished now a days, just like the starks are mostly dead. Jon is different, out of all the thiefs and robbers, he is the only one who is noble and brave, visionary and empathetic. Just like all the other vloggers busy ghost writing and stealing ideas, Phil is preciously original and not corrupted by fame, he stayed modest and honest to his viewers. Snow don't carry much persona, however he cleverly hides all his miserable past and bitterness inside, to not let his weakness shown, Phil uses persona to protect himself.

But Daenerys may turn crazy like her father and Snow may die because of little bitches. Let's see how Dan and Phil turn out to be.

TenEighty magazine actually wrote an article on this, casting Dan as Melisandre and Phil as Stannis. It's worth a read, I find Teoh's choices here pretty accurate. Also worth noting that the guy who wrote this article was part of Phil's circle of friends in the early days of YouTube.

Very very excited! From what they have said I got the impression that they were filming at Louise's, but it was actually at their flat. Yeah I know that article, but i disagree with it quite a lot. He seems like he doesn't know much about GOT. Dan is somewhat accurate with his cultish presents, but only somewhat fit the description, Melisandre is very manipulative and has absolutely no loyalty. But can you imagine Dan getting over Phil in one millisecond and moving on to some younger hotter guy? I can't, he is probably gonna gripping tight of Phil's dead body Quasimodo style. (what a passive aggressive emoji i love it) As for Phil it's even more ridiculous, and somewhat shady that he compare Phil to Stannis. Was he trying to say that Phil was played by Dan? Because I can't see that at all. Apart from that, Stannis killed his own daughter and desolate his own wife, Phil as a man who held his family very high regard, if Martyn was fighting with him for the throne like Renly, he probably just gives it to Martyn. Plus I don't think stannis have much ambition at all, he mainly wanted the throne because he was under his brother's shadow for too long, he wanted to be in power just for the resentment. Phil even though there are people like Alfie or Charlie, i don't think he would ever victimize himself and resent everyone.
