I don't really get how joining in with shippers is any different from ship baiting? I mean, in some instances I do, like the 'Phan baby names' thing. That really was just Dan enjoying a fun interaction. but in Phil's the last video when Louise said 'or not accidentally' about groping Phil's butt and Dan made a HUGE show of agreeing with her and then Phil not only left it in during editing but zoomed in on him. IMO that was either ship-baiting or they are really trying to slowly come out.

Baiting would have been if he'd slipped in a couple tweets about saving them for his and Phil's actual future child, or if he'd tried to in some way validate that there was a chance they'd have children. Playing along with a twitter trending topic fans made up with ridiculous answers no one would ever take seriously is not trying to lead fans on, it's having a sense of humor.

I feel like a broken record at this point but re: the butt touching remark, yeah, I think slowly coming out is exactly what they're doing. They're very, very gradually normalizing things by dropping breadcrumbs.

But if you don't think they're together, then yeah, it would look like shipbaiting, I guess. (And on a somwhat related note, it's just hard for me to imagine why anyone would want to be a fan of someone they think would go that far to bait an audience. It makes me uncomfortable because it's almost like I have to address the fact that someone who thinks they are straight, or not together/shipbaits, but is still being a fan is probably the kind of person who is unsympathetic to lbgtq issues and thinks it's okay for people to manipulate a fanbase desperate for representation, and just... ick.)

This, this, a million times this. Which is why I usually don't take any part in the related conversation(s), that and it's not anywhere close to a topic that can be lightly/jokingly speculated over.

The crash-zoom on Dan at that point kind of makes me wonder what Phil's/Louise's reactions to that comment were...

I think you mis-read me. I said that I didn't consider the 'Phan baby names' thing to be ship-baiting. Exactly as you just pointed out, no one was taking it seriously and he was clearly just joining in with a joke.

That Dan tweet about the border was hilarious but that's too real. The American border personnel is always so scary and intimidating. and they also know their power and show it.

Pretty much I made a book in the style of a burn book (from Mean Girls,) and instead of gossip stuff I want to put Deppy related stuff/inside jokes. Example: "Dil is a homewrecker. Do not trust." and stuff like that. I know it's kind of dumb but I think that some people might find it funny if they notice an inside joke they understand. Hope I am more clear now.

I'm in the middle of my final uni exams and can't sit down to write a proper reply but just wanted to say how much I am loving the shipbaiting/queer Dan/coming out discussion at the moment! I know it comes around as a topic fairly frequently but I feel like people are saying really insightful and new things in this discussion in particular, and I'm definitely going to bookmark and come back to these few pages, they've been a joy to read! A million to phamnotof and fancybum in particular, but I've loved seeing everyone's contributions!

I've been enjoying tom's "last week" series so I'm glad d&p are in this one, though they and Louise didn't seem to be that much interested in interacting with him :^/ I hope he's wrong about the "whole british youtube community" hating him.

we've said it before, but dang, dan looks really good in the red plaid/his new outfit of the year. The whole bus segment was lovely.

I would have liked more in this one, especially Dan since he was on the thumbnail and all. The second part which has him in it, and Dan is just with Tom and Mark, he didn't come across as awkward at all so that's good, then again we only saw him for a few seconds. Mark was great in that part though.

offtopic (again):
PJ just posted a video of his favorite channels and didn't include dan or phil (or chris). Then again, he only recommended five, and the only ones I recognized were Marzia and Don't Hug Me I'm Scared.

Not a big deal as I didn't expect him to recommend them nor would dan and phil benefit from the publicity like some of the smaller youtubers, but I just thought it was interesting he mentioned Marzia as a mainstream youtuber before d&p.

I would have thought there would have been more D&P. Ohwell tbh that's the most we had in any vlogs except for Caspar.

He hurt my heart when he was talking about none of the British youtubers liking him. He has people in his videos but he is not in any of thiers. I wonder if he talking about , I can't see him being on a video on DINOF but I would love a collab with him and Phil!!

This was almost impossible to screencap since the camera's panning but I love these unguarded/not camera-aware expressions.

That part made me really sad too. I wish Dan would have Tom on his channel though. From what I've seen they seem to genuinely like each other, I mean they often sit together at Youtube events and when they show up together in the background of vlogs they appear to be comfortable together. Damn Dan overthinking everything all the time. Why can't he just do a dumb fun collab with a friend on his channel once in a while instead of worrying so much about his fucking brand aesthetic or whatever. He occasionally has BIG youtubers like Tyler and Connor on his channel but I suspect they make some kind of reciprocal deal where he HAS to have them on his channel if he wants to be on theirs. I would definitely put them in the category of internet friends rather than real life friends so it's just a business transaction really.
I wonder what's different about Louise? I always see her as a real-life friend rather than an internet friend. She's been invited on Danisnotonfire twice now, and both times he did content that didn't really 'fit' with his usual stuff. (I really enjoyed both times though.) I guess maybe because of Gleam she's not 'allowed' to have guests on her channel unless they reciprocate?

That was a cute catch, especially since P seems to be saying something to D. Not really trying to read too much into it, but that is exactly how I chat with someone I am attracted to; chin pointed down, eyes looking up, slight smirk. (And that is also how I interact with babies and puppies )
