kinda off topic, but especially now with the increasingly short liveshows I've been thinking about phil's relationship with his audience. Unlike most youtubers, Phil (at least imo) doesn't seem to prioritize making a "personal" connection with his audience, if that makes any sense, especially in contrast to dan. biggest example is how he conducts his liveshows--he's the master of presenting something with little importance (like deciding what clothes to donate) and making it feel like viewers have a stake in it, but really it's just a way for him to fill the time while keeping the focus on shallow topics and off himself and/or things that are more relavent to fans/their interests/their personal lives/current events/#relateable things.
and none of this is a bad thing, it's great because that's what Philly boy in on youtube for. He entertains to be entertaining, closer to how a movie star acts online.
tbh, Dan seems to really like liveshows because he's an opinionated person who likes to think outloud, that's how he works out his thoughts. Similarly, danny ruler of the seven kingdoms gets likes to talk about things he's passionate about (like music), so he uses liveshows as an outlet for that. Phil doesn't have that urge (maybe he gets like that when he's around friends, who knows), so he doesn't get that benefit from liveshows.
i guess what my 5 AM sleep deprived brain is asking y'all...does anyone get the feeling that Phil doesn't like doing the liveshows? Like, tru the liveshow is a job, but does it seem to you his approach is the "ugh I don't want to go to work" kind of job, or just a "I have work, I'm indifferent" kind? And follow up...why does he continue to do liveshows if he doesn't like doing them? The money is pretty good, but is it good enough to be worth it? I love his liveshows and I hope he doesn't stop doing them, but I can't stop wondering why he does them when he doesn't want to.
Phil's the only one with the answers, but speculation is fun and I just can't figure out why Phil continues doing liveshows...Maybe he's going to keep making them shorter and shorter until his liveshow is traded in for a weekly snapchat story.

My thoughts... I agree with most of it, though I didn’t find the initial revelation of what had happened to Phil was shocking, the writing just hadn’t got me there by then (I found his flowery language a bit too much generally).
I’m not sure you can be certain blood is a particular fear of his from reading this either. The visceral description of it leaving Phil’s body is enough for anyone to be horrified anyway, it’s his life force leaving his body and leaving him dead.
The end where Dan gives in and drinks the blood I thought was his primal need to live, but you might be right. The thought of wanting to get rid of this creepy imposter, but then ending up living with them for all eternity… maybe it’s okay if you’ve also become s creepy imposter of yourself.
Love the analysis. I think they were speaking of blood as a known fear of Dan's, like the trees, not just something revealed by the story. But is it? We know Phil has an issue with blood (he fainted while doing work experience at an animal clinic) but my impression was that Dan liked it just fine... and um pain.

Pretty sure this is the same area that Phil took the fidget spinner picture in!
We know because of the plant in the background that the close-up picture of him from today was taken where he does liveshows. And we know that the wall behind him in liveshows curves into some kind of storage cupboard off to the left:

I agree those are all from the same area. I don't think the brown is the kitchen though. From the corner we saw in Dan's Tinder spon the kitchen is grey and white. maybe? Possibly? I think they're building to something and it would take some pretty hard anti-Phan logic to convince me otherwise. It honestly feels like they're kinda pointing out small and insignificant things that, when take together, show that they're not p l a t o n i c bros.
Ooo I am so up for another sleepless night with Phil, but I don't think it will be with Dan yet (they could have done this when they were both jetlagged). I think right now he would use it to show two things: That he *can* sleep in the AP room (the same reason I think he did that one ls there, like see you guys, I can hang out on this bed, it's not too small) and to show us more of the apartment without a formal tour, because he never sticks to just his room in those videos. (Because they're moving).
Hooray for TomSka! That will be great to watch tonight. Going to be out all day touring House on the Rocks. I'm excited.

My perfect situation is them doing a surprise joint ls next week and announcing whatever they've been up to, but I feel like they'll both use some sort of excuse and not do any shows next week. Maybe that's why they haven't released gaming videos in the past few days. To upload them on Tuesday/Thursday and get out of doing a show?
I'm definitely getting sudden announcement vibes though. I swear to god if its another book..
I think Dan maybe not doing a ls Aug. 1 is bc of Phil's mom's bday plans. They're so married.
God I would love a joint ls. My question for you folks that have been around longer: does Phil's mum's birthday and SITC always coincide? My impression was that Dan and Phil always attended, except when just Dan went in 2010 (he gave the reason that Phil was busy moving into his first flat, but it could have been a combo of that and his mum's birthday). Do we know what day her birthday is on from previous Phil tweets and ls? Or is that too invasive?

I have mixed thoughts about whether Phil enjoys doing live shows. He was really into them when he started doing them, but I'm not sure why. Could have wanted to, could have done it for the money, could have done it to grow his channel, or maybe even to spend time with Dan (the one from Vegas was entirely done with Dan and he always did at least part of each show with Dan in 2012).
These days, he often laughs a lot in live shows and seems to enjoy. Sometimes he'll seem more into it than others. He probably feels obligated (he is a very empathetic person) to keep doing them. And the money is most likely a factor (I get extreme saver with money vibes from him).
He and Dan are def very different in their need/desire/prioritization for live shows. Dan will prefer to cancel rather than shorten a ls.

yes!!! i've had this feeling for a while just had no idea how to articulate it. i feel like he is never entirely comfortable for long stretches of time in front of his audience as he tends to get a bit awkward by the end. but i think in the last ls at least, they just had a lot going on and that's why Phil was so vague and distracted.
why does he continue to do liveshows if he doesn't like doing them? The money is pretty good, but is it good enough to be worth it?
well,,, yes i think few thousand dollars just to sit in front of a screen and talk about nothing every time he does a ls is pretty fucking worth it

i get the impression that phil sees his liveshows as more of a job/obligation than dan does as well, but i don't see why that would lead to him stop doing them. i could see him unceremoniously and without much regret ditching them if people stopped watching them, but at the moment it seems to be an important part of his job, seeing as he can keep his core audience entertained and involved, advertise and announce any new videos/projects of both of them, get to tell stuff that won't make it into a video, and plug their merch. also, if the estimations are correct and they do make at least 1000$+ for each liveshow, that's a damn good wage rate. idk how relevant/important it is to their overall earnings (must be nice) but to think that a single hour of talking to the camera paid that (stupidly beautiful) moon mirror in dan's room...wow i wanna be rich. um. tangent. what i meant to say is, even if they're not financially dependent on the liveshows, they seem to be important at least in a secondary way, i.e. to keep us involved and up to date, so i don't see a good reason why he should ditch them. they're 45 minutes in total per week that he has to spend on them -- even if he actively hated them, that's something he could probably get through, a lot of people don't love every single task they have to do at work (disclaimer, of course there could be reasons why someone wouldn't want to continue doing liveshows, e.g. being uncomfortable with them, but i'm assuming that if that were the case phil had already stopped doing them).

It's interesting that so many people think Phil doesn't like live shows, because I don't actually get that vibe personally. I do agree that he approaches them differently to Dan, but I'm not sure he actively dislikes them. His two most recent live shows have definitely been shorter than usual, but unless that continues then I don't think that's necessarily indicative of a consistent dislike for live shows.
I really do think his distractedness today was down to the pupil dilation and not necessarily due to things going on in his life and/or being generally bored of live shows. Phil's live shows, while pretty consistent in terms of structure and general content, are inconsistent in terms of energy (I'd argue Dan's are as well). In his July 13th liveshow, for example, Phil was comparatively more high-energy than he was in yesterday's, and was in my opinion more open and forthcoming in opinions/stories he told. Prior to last week's liveshow he was pretty consistent in keeping them 40-45 minutes in length, which is fairly usual for Phil. In many of those live shows he comes across as being in a good mood/enjoying himself, and while I do think Phil's boundaries in terms of what he shares/how vulnerable he makes himself in live shows are probably more restricted than Dan's are, I do think he's happy to chat about more surface-level topics/anecdotes so long as he's in control of the situation (and I'd also argue that he does move beyond the surface-level sometimes in his own way).
I don't know, I just don't think it's completely fair to assume he dislikes the live shows or secretly wants to stop. I doubt he LOVES them/counts down the days with fevered anticipation or anything - at the end of the day it is still an element of his job, and requires him to stop what he's doing to chat to thousands of strangers on the internet. I'm sure there are days where he's just flat-out not in the mood for that, but I think that's pretty normal and Dan's surely the same way - I would be too tbh. I think that at the very least, while they're probably not his favourite part of his job and he definitely isn't motivated by selflessness, he's probably come to the conclusion that they're an easy way to a) make a quick buck and b) maintain a connection with his audience, which ultimately benefits him as it keeps people interested in him and his content.
That's just my opinion/observations though, I could be completely wrong and maybe Phil really is not as keen on liveshows as I think!

I agree with captainspacecoat, and on top of that I think Dan and Phil both understand the value in being able to get a message out to only the people that it benefits or is applicable to. Youtube videos have such a big audience that they are extremely picky and choosy when deciding what to make a video about; twitter has such a character limit that they have to be concise and it could still get overlooked easily. But with liveshows? They've got an thirty minutes to an hour to say whatever they want to the people who they know are the dedicated fans, the core audience. They can use that to do hings like showing merch and correcting info or keeping us in the loop on plans. So that might not factor into like or dislike but I think it's one reason the liveshows won't be going anywhere, even if some weeks Phil just checks out after half an hour.

I agree with you on the difference in their moods during liveshows compared to each other. I'm not saying either of them do it solely for the money, but personally, if i was making what we estimate to be a minimum of 5,000 pounds a liveshow, I'd probably do them every day whether or not I enjoyed them, and it's only an hour (less, in phil's case) and it makes an audience happy. And that's what Phil has always said he wants to do: make people happy.
Some thoughts that were sparked:
Dan certainly does like to give his opinions on things and I think he likes the fact that most of his fans genuinely like to hear what he has to say, because it makes him feel heard. With Phil, its obvious what his aim is on youtube: to make people happy. That's something that's always been a bit blurry with Dan. Dan partly makes videos for himself. He is also a lot more involved and doesn't seem to try to stay away form problematic topics in live shows, and goes a whole lot more in depths than Phil. Phil's shows are light hearted. We either get information, or we don't. He straight up tells us. Dan says things like 'that difficult week in March that you may or may not find out about' that keep us speculating things for months at 3am
To me, Dan's liveshows have always felt like a late night talk with a close friend, whereas Phil's are like catching up with an old college pal over coffee and lightly skimming surfaces.
Edit: what if this week in march thing is just Dan having gone vegan again

I actually wrote down 'vase or coffeemachine' in my original post but deleted it because I thought it would be a weird place for it. So I could definitely see it being one.
RE Phil's liveshows: I think he cut it short because he had nothing left to say (partially because of Dan's liveshow), and didn't want to go deeper in to anyhing. When there's more (shallow subjects) to discuss he doesn't mind the 40-45 minutes, but when there's not much to talk about he doesn't want to drag it out.
But the thing that feels disingenuous to me is the phrasing 'I have to go now', when it's clear he wants to go. What is so urgent it couldn't wait 15 minutes? Maybe just a general saying to indicate wanting to leave but I would prefer him just saying 'that's all I wanted to cover/talk about so see you next week!'

I might be entirely wrong here, but I think there's a possibility that Phil might be somewhat demotivated to share his opinions with his audience due to the fact that maybe he feels like people don't really care that much about what he has to say? idk, whenever I check his youtube comment sections under any of his videos, most of the comments are either Dan or phan related, even when the video itself doesn't include Dan, people always manage to bring him up either way and make it about Dan. it's not like that in Dan's comment sections, though, more people talk about the topics of the videos and don't bring up Phil or phan as often. I assume the younow chat works pretty much in the same way, everyone asks "where's Dan", "what is Dan doing", "call Dan", etc, and I'm not saying that it bothers or annoys Phil (he might not even be the type of person who gets jealous over such things and is just someone who's happy for his friends' popularity), but if I were him, that would definitely affect my mood in a bad way (sadly I can relate to Dan a lot there lol). maybe he feels a bit disconnected with his viewers, and that would partly be his "fault" because he rarely gets vulnerable on the internet. also, he gets really anxious whenever he has to face some sort of confrontation, so my guess is he tries to avoid it by not sharing his feelings or opinions on controversial topics, because he doesn't want to engage in arguments. but I don't think he hates doing liveshows. he just has a different approach to them, and most of the time his positivity just radiates through the screen and makes me feel better in a therapeutic way, and I can say the same thing about his youtube videos. Dan feels confident enough to share more and discuss different, more controversial stuff because he knows for sure many people care. like, I know it's from 2012/13, but even then he saw that he on his own is enough, statistically:
I kind of get the impression that Phil used to be more cheerful back in the day when he was making videos about opening fanmail, maybe he felt more appreciated and thus more confident about what he's doing on youtube and in general. but that's just a speculation of course, because like I've said already maybe this type of things doesn't even bother him, maybe he still enjoys everything and I honestly don't know what I'm talking about lol. tbh I think Phil just wasn't feeling that well/was tired after his eye exam.

About Phil's liveshows: usually I actually prefer Phil's ls to Dan's (disclaimer: I really enjoy both of them, please don't come at me:)). Dan can sometimes be a little condescending in the way he expresses his opinions, he also sometimes goes on long tangents about stuff that I can't relate to (anime, sci-fi movies, hip-hop music). Phil, on the other hand, is usually very entertaining and enthusiastic, and I never got the feeling that he doesn't enjoy doing them. I will say that Phil's last ls wasn't his best, but I also agree that it probably was due to the eye procedure. You could see that he was struggling with reading the chat and looked a bit tired. Dan's last ls, on the other hand, was just incredible.
I wonder how much thought they put into what they are going to talk about during the ls. Dan usually has a planned structure of the liveshow and often leaves the most exciting bits for last (he often says in reply to messages - we will get to that), while Phil never deliberately shows that, but his liveshows are usually very structured.
I would love a joint ls! I love it when they interact with each other without the ability to edit anything out (please hive me gaming livestreams).

Visually this looks cool, but I can't hear anything! The dark/anti stuff really sucks for me and my bad ears. Just have to wait for CC and hope they aren't full of memes. =(
Edit: If some kind soul can tell me what Deppy say, I'd really appreciate it.

Maybe this is why Tom thought he couldn't release his sketch?

I also get the feeling there's gonna be some kind of announcement/revelation, soon! Dan's explanation for streaming in his bedroom in his latest ls made me wonder about the next gaming video as well. Does anybody else think it might be something special? Since Dan mentioned 'specific reasons' for Phil's gaming video editing which he said was 'thrilling'. My wildest guess would be either a DanAndPhil Game or Mark of Oxin sequel, though I'm 95% sure that neither is the case. But yeah, what do you think about the mystery that is the next unknown gaming video?
Anyway, I definitely don't think the gaming video, if it were something big, was the reason for that week in March, so I'm very excited for August!

This is what I see (it wont display so have to link):
Definitely think the balcony is opposite him, and I think it could be Dan's hand holding a mouse or a drinking glass sitting at a desk or table, but could be totally wrong there. Also, it looks like a copper vase is in front of the opposing wall.
I'm with you on the balcony railing and the copper vase/urn/cannister, but I'm not so sure about Dan's arm. That would have him much closer than we thought (at the desk by the the piano, not sat at the same table, I don't think they're *that* codependent).
well, it would explain why we can hear the typing so clear and loud...
I don't think he needs to be that close for us to hear him typing. I'm at my friend's house right now and with the door between two rooms closed I can still hear her tapping on the keyboard very loudly. I think Dan also said that his keyboard was very loud? Or was that another one?

I give up on the Markiplier video part way through, I have no idea what's going on and can't understand what anyone is saying. It looks interesting though.

I couldn't hear it at first either (overedited to the point where the audio is unintelligible in my opinion), but this is what they say:
'I'm blazingPhil, and when you come to Britain your tea will be cold and your crumpets will be burnt!
"Oh hi there, it's Daniel.. Wait, you didn't get it? The curly hair? The rebranding? I am darkDan, Danisnotonfire has been dead for years, and if you look in to my eyes all the hope will drain from your life'
Also; looks like sketch + bloopers on the way:

Phil: I am blazin' Phil and when you come to Britain your tea will be cold and your crumpets will be burned.
Dan: It's Daniel. What you didn't get it? The curly hair? The rebranding? I am Dark Dan. Danisnotonfire has been dead for years and if you look into my eyes all the hope will drain from your life.

Dan: Oh, hi there. It's Daniel. What, you didn't get it? The curly hair, the re-branding? I am the dark Dan. Danisnotonfire has been dead for years and if you look into my eyes, all the hope will drain (I think?) from your life.
Edit: of course I'm late af and other peeps have already written it out!

Wow, this was underwhelming Maybe it's because I neither watch Mark and Jack nor most of the other YouTubers, but it just seemed like a bunch of YouTubers unnecessarily popping up during a "fight" that could have made an epic video. I didn't even watch it until the end because the sound was so bad and I didn't understand enough. Who knows, maybe it actually is good when you know what everyone is saying ...

I also really could not understand the audio in marks video. I can't comment much on the...plot? idea/concept? of it since I have no background knowledge of mark or jack. Dnp's appreances were nothing special, however the fact that they have now been in the same video as Logan Paul is quite amusing
