Can someone fill me in on that "Gleamers" thing? I found info on the Hello World event, but why don't we speak of it?

we just playin' - they aren't that bad. in general, gleam has been seen in the past as rather elitist and exclusive as well as having slightly less integrity than some other YT management companies.

I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but you writing Zoella twice is both hilarious and accurate.

I'm sure Gleam has approached them and would do a backflip to represent them, but they're not about that lifestyle. They do their merch on their own, they lead the pack with their own management (FlipSide), and they don't really do the fake-a-friendship type collabs that Gleam tends to push.

While I too have found myself a bit nervous re: Deppy at HelloWorldLive! I think I've just convinced myself out of it. They wouldn't. They shouldn't.

Where I went in America, China was pretty much a laughing stock and the butt of a lot of jokes, and I didn't take well to it, blindly attacking people for saying such things without thinking why my home had such a perception. Obviously not quite the same issue, but I guess it's natural for people to be defensive about their home, or something they've studied and feel pride in?

So I guess after a very long winded post, I just wanted to say that while things can get heated, discussion is a great place to learn things and we can all try more to understand where people are coming from. Basically what phoenixfeather said in much better words. Please excuse my English, it is not my first language and is very hard to use right. >~<

EDIT: I guess I have to stay on topic. I'm really sad that dan had to take down the tinder video! I actually very very liked that video, because as an LGBT person it meant so much to see someone not come out but also come out? I never really grasped the notion before this. So I'm disappointed to see it go. I guess I'll have to comb through the corners of the internet for a copy and stuff. Anyone here who's perception of LGBT related stuff changed after Dan and Phil? What (or what did you discover) changed for you guys?

here's my theory: the boys decided to do a howlter house remodel because the remodel of the forever home had a two month setback. the logistics of putting the aforementioned secret sex dungeon in an all glass house has proven difficult, and the only place that their sex swing would fit is underneath the koi pond, which obviously won't do. this has led to dan fantasizing about using his bdsm gear for a rammstein concert because right now it's just gathering dust.
(i actually (re)found them through their first howlter house remodel so i'm actually SO EXCITED)

I have heard that the Hello World tickets aren't selling as well as expected (like they're not exactly going to have an empty arena, but it's hardly the sellout they thought it was going to be either) so I have a feeling that if D&P were going to be there, they would have announced it by now because they would obviously become the main draw. Although they seem to like Zoe, and Dan gets on well with Caspar, I don't really think they would do the event? It doesn't seem very 'them'. And I don't think Gleam would want them to be there stealing focus from their own talent either to be honest.

Also I was going to say to the person that asked if any of the Gleamers were at SITC that Oli White was one of the 'headliners' so he must have been their representative... but I looked it up and it turns out he's not even with Gleam that's a serious Mandela Effect there. Tell me I'm not the only one who thought he was!?

I loved Dan’s liveshow, it left me feeling all warm and fuzzy and that is something I always appreciate. I wasn’t expecting him to make any announcements yet, though I also didn’t think talking about whatever was going on in march would take two more months. But I laughed out loud when he said it, it was just hilarious.

I wish he could have actually told more about what happened with tinder, but I do think it’s better for him to not go into any details and possibly get himself in trouble. What a slap in the face though, he who is so particular about the content he puts on his channel, decides to do a tinder spon despite not seeming at all thrilled about it (must have been pretty good money) and it’s actually super funny video that does very well and then he has to delete it.

Also, I never knew I needed to hear Dan say satsuma.

Dan's passing comments about conventions not being good enough seem to reasonably point to the secret project going in that direction. Honestly I wouldn't care, I don't think Dan and Phil are more genuine than other youtubers so to me it would kinda be TATINOF 2 (or TATINOF + other Flipside youtubers if they really do it the Gleam way). I'm curious, would anyone be mad at them or think they are selling out/ have lost all integrity or something like that?

Also, what's with the reflections in EVERY liveshow? I swear they do it on purpose, they must be having fun messing with us.

I don't think I would really care - it's not selling out any more than other conventions, etc they do. It's definitely not selling out more than DAPGO (to me!).

I don't really understand why the Gleam Team have a rep of selling out more than any other YouTubers when everyone in the YT Creator Community does pretty much the exact same stuff (merch/book/podcast/makeup line). Yes, their content isn't always the absolute artistic best it could be, but you can't fault them for making the most of the opportunities in front of them.

Hello World looks like quite an innovative event to be fair, if D&P were on the lineup I would definitely want to go - but I still think if they were involved it would have been announced by now.

yea, i don't think gleamers are any more "sell outs" than anyone else. the point of YT now is to market yourself. i am spouting off 2015 preconceptions bc that was the last time i was active on a daily basis - i am not as in touch with the way people are received now

I'm intrigued how a Dan and Phil convention would work, would it involve a variety of things, a different kind of stage show..? Well, that's a show instead, but they can't just do panel talks all day with just two of them. Hello World looks interesting, though the VIP tickets have sold out so I doubt they'd add Deps now. I was annoyed that you either get a seated ticket for the show or a standing one which includes a tour of their Main Street thingy which is led by one of the stars (though, from the wording, not quite all of them). I can't stand all that time, aged 22 my ankles couldn't do it even before my back had problems, so it'd be a shame to miss half of it. Weird to do something so inaccessible, I'm guessing they assume all kids can stand (wheelchairs can still be in the standing area) and that no one older would want to go. I doubt Deps could be tour guides either cos it could get too crazy for them.

I think the difference is that the Gleamers specifically left SITC because it wasn't making them money to do something that will bring in cash. Not that there is anything bad about it, but it seems so very money hungry. Further than that, they all make collabs for the cross-view-pollination, they started the trend of putting out as much content as possible for the highest amount of ad revenue, started the LQ book deals, etc. I've always liked that D&P don't harangue fans into buying stuff - their promo always seems "if you want some merch, here's some stuff", where as Gleamers go "buy this, this and that from me" - so if they do Hello World it would be a massive disappointment.

The fact that one of the last big Things before he did to hint before the liveshow on the bed in the old place was him waxing poetic about needing a new background and being unsatisfied with his current one has my mental alarm bells ringing still. I do think it's the 'keeping options open' thing but it's very difficult not to associate it with the last time he said the same thing, and one of those options he's keeping open is new background in a whole new house.

In which case, I kind of hope they do it exactly like you said.

I really doubt they would do Hello World. When the Gleamers ditched SITC a couple years ago to do Amity Fest, dnp still did SITC. Also I remember Dan saying in a ls once that they would tell their audience beforehand if any big event is coming up so they could make sure to be prepared. If we have to wait until October for this announcement they wouldn't say they were going to Hello World right when it was about to open.

We have moved on already, but I just wanted to add my two cents to the "nobody talks to me here" discussion. There have been a lot of good points already, shout outs to thephandommenace, nøx, pilotlight, LeftHandedism and others

Now, it's been nearly a year since I joined the forum and I've definitely felt many times that my posts go unnoticed on here and that I'll never make friends in the phandom (I haven't yet, but you can hmu any time if you're interested, just saying). I've never been active on any forum or in my previous fandoms, so this felt like a fresh start, but then I was convinced there must be something inherently wrong with me because people don't want to engage and for others it seems so easy. The key word here, I think, is "seems". I kept posting though, because I don't have any other place to partake in my shameful youtube obsession anyway, and slowly, very slowly, people started answering. And I began to engage more, too (it's still a journey, mind you), because I don't have the habit and in the beginning it was really scary, I'm always afraid of being misunderstood and I loath conflicts. I've thought about it a lot and what I said about the key word being "it seems easy for others" is really important, I think. Like, I know myself that English is my third language and it takes me a ridiculous amount of time to formulate things, and then people keep posting new things, and I keep rewriting until it lost all relevance whatsoever and then I post it anyway, but nobody responds and I feel like a completely useless human being. But does anyone else know it? No, they just want to talk about a new video, or about how they need a new video asap, or about how the new video was disappointing, or about how cute Phil looks in glasses, or about how Dan is always problematic. Or, alternatively, they feel the same fear I do about posting and are caught up in their own anxiety and don't respond to my post because of that. In any case, I feel like the only solution is to keep posting and also, at least for me, it's nice to know the person I'm responding a little bit, so I usually respond to people who have already been posting for some time because I just feel more of a connection, I guess. But I love you all, guys, always
