Everything I think about this year's Spooky Week has already been said, but I just.... I just don't understand Dan's reactions in today's video. That game was anything but scary. Jumpscares don't necessarily spook me as much as story does, and a grey Spongebob popping up while they're collecting Krabby Patties... it just seems altogether dumb. It felt so overacted to me, as did quite a few of the games this week.

Especially having re-watched PT yesterday, nothing came close.

I can't pinpoint a single genuine moment from this spooky week. I think that's my issue with it all. I got excited about it because fear brings out real, visceral reactions from people and there's nothing I love more than Deppy being real. I don't feel like I got that at all. It all just seemed... fake.

And just so this post isn't all me being a negative-nancy... My day was improved seeing Dan in that gif wearing Phil's shirt.

I doubt it was that word since Phil didn't react and has in the past when Dan has said it. I can't imagine what it could be though since Phil didn't react at all. Why he bleeped it when Dan didn't shy away from any other swear word, or shitting in or on random body parts- could be another deppy mystery. I do like eevee's theory though.

Also could tomorrow's video involve the 'dancing in the moonlight.rawr' (10:11) thing? did they unlock on another game or part of the game or something? (not a gamer so I don't know what that means... or if it possible)

That was a fun video, the suspense made it more scary than the rest, though still not terrifying. Still it's always fun to watch Dan react, especially clutching at his pearls buttons and they both looked cute in their onesies. It's years since Phil last wore the giraffe. He'd look so cute as Tigger. Loved the secret ceiling bats at the end, all that bat-hanging effort.

I love Phil's new glasses. They look almost exactly like his previous pair, I don't quite get why he doesn't like them. Glenn the pumpkin was cute too, good to see the drawing game again.

I think they look good but also kind of, I don't know... awkward? on his face. The way they top of the frames angle doesn't look good, but I think it's because of the way his fringe angles down. So, basically, push your hair up next time you wear them, Phil. I do like how they have the red accents on the inside though, I think it's very Phil-esque.

No idea what they bleeped out/why they bleeped it, thought I presume it was mainly for comedic effect. But there was definitely a "fuckity" in there, lol.

Okay, so I was supposed to post a review about the DAPG vid yesterday, but when I submitted it, I got logged out. What is that about? :?

Anyways, here it is, my review on Deppy playing Timore Inferno!
The only scary thing in that video is probably the masks, and Dan sticking his tongue out doesn't help- the masks are far more disturbing than the game itself. To be honest, this is a refreshing break from the other three: they're bored af when they played FNAF, they're sassy af when they played the .exe, and Phil is disturbed af when they played Outlast. They seem to enjoy the graphics (lmao), and I love it when they just walk over to the monsters, then freak out later lol. The only time I jumped is when the first jumpscare happened, and Dan's scream doesn't help.
Overall, it wasn't that bad considering the mood they're in, and they look really lighthearted while playing it. I'm quite disappointed that they only named Anthony though :/

For today's video... I jumped once, and Deppy in onesies are just They look so cute!
I love how they took turns, and seems to be more terrified in playing it more than FNAF lol, especially Dan. They're totally freaking out while playing it, and I'm really happy that they finished the game. Gratz to Deppy!
Anyways, have you seen Dan's ears by the end? It's soooooooo red; is he really that scared? Also, the design! I'm glad that they showed it to us :) Too bad it couldn't be seen in all of their vids though; it's too high for the camera to take.
The censorship though :? What's that about? Maybe Dan has said something racist? Sexist? Something that can create a shitstorm? It's quite suspicious to even blur Dan's mouth when he said whatever he has said. I wonder what it is :?

Overall, this Spooky Week isn't that bad (last year's was better, tbh), but they could've lessened the sass in the .exe vid, imo. Anyways, I'm just gonna go back and re-watch all of the Spooky Week vids

edit: ^my guess was ''cocksucker''? i find it difficult to imagine Dan saying something racist or sexist, even in the heat of the moment. but explicitly sexual, i can

I loved the last video! equal with Sonic, but maybe my favourite of them all.
it had everything i require, both of them properly spooked, no dumb cheap graphic gratuitous passe (lol sorry) horror tropes and gore. i didn't find their reactions over-acted at all. case in point being their first at 2.25; Dan had a more panicked scare which is what he does when it's genuine, and Phil SQUEALED! yes, replay it, i thought that and the super high pitched voice that came after was Dan, but it's Philip. I've never heard him go that high, didn't know it was physically possible with his timbre.

also, tf was Phil talking about fondling Dan from behind? they've gotten so non-phased lately, i love things not being made a big deal out of. also also, Phil mentioning marriage in the context of a dude marrying him/Dan? is this enough to make it on Phil's 'list'?

my fav moments:
2.00 first poo mention, Dan's favourite topic lately
2.26 Phil squealing and squeaking, Dan afraid (not of Phil)
2.58 Dan wrapping his hands up in his onsie in fear was kewt
4.14 "shit in my eye socket" ...Daniel, no. even if Phil laughs.
4.27 "Phil youre distressing me by being disorganised."
5.01 Dan's whingey nag "stick to the path I said!"
6.07 Dan flashing his orange underwear and bare chest accidentally (i see he still has questionable taste in underwear after all these years; bless him it's charming)
6.43 "I heard that they're alive." "I'll tell you how sponges work later. Dan and Phil's fun evening planned." Phil, come on. You're supposed to be the animal obsessed one
7.21 Phil: “It's definitely...it's touching your butt. It’s fondling you from behind." ....um
7.43 Phil: "Imagine this was your real life.’’ Dan: "what does that even mean?!" gah this is adorable
7.57 Phil: "maybe go along the river" Dan: "can you go along the river? yeah okay" - not sure why i like this but i do. muttering teamwork
8.39 "Shitting on my legs!" Phil's smile here also adorbs. see below.
9.33 not sure if i'm imagining it, but does Phil's mouth repress a twitch when he says “he’s always on your tail”?
10.14 Dan singing falsetto still gives me life
10.50 Phil: "Maybe you feed them all to him and he...marries you."
11.00 so weird that they did visual blurring for the first time. what did Dan say?! wild guess because it fits with the syllables i hear, and also it would be something maybe too sexual/too far they decided later: ''(fuck)-ity, cock sucker" - maybe? not sure about the first censored word before this phrase, though.
11.10 - 11.25 Phil's ''yes, yes!" and then winning and high-fiving and Phil praising, it's always nice seeing them pumped up from gaming (even if the game is one like this)

Image

Apart from Phil's delightful squeal, I've really enjoyed seeing the whole of Dan's face. I wonder what made them want to change the camera angle, or if it was accidental. It feels like it can't be, Dan is too controlling of that right-side. hmm. It gives him a totally different feel, at many times I remember thinking ''oh, he looks so young. that smile/dimple is so 2011.'" which is sad, it highlights how long he's been filming videos from the same side, to the point where it takes age off him because it's literally been years since he hasn't!

this is a good example of different strokes for different folks affecting how we view the 'genuine' element of something. i think Outlast and stuff like that is lame, I don't understand how anyone could possibly be frightened by it. it was my least favourite video this week, because I couldn't relate to their reactions at all - thus i found them far over-acted. in my head i knew they weren't, but, because i couldn't connect, they had that lingering illusion of being hugely exaggerated. Slender today was the opposite, for me. and that makes it easy for me to believe Dan when he says he's afraid of slow-burn, simple things in a setting that he's already afraid of (woods, darkness, nonsensical elements and supernatural themes). and easy for me to relate to his reactions because i too find the Slender franchise spookier than any of the others.

and Phil, well, he's not hugely expressive, so when he's distasteful or disturbed, or conversely squealing, that feels genuine to me.

basically i agree with you; that 'fake' feeling is real to the individual and often (not always, sometimes they are acting it out) comes down to the relatability of the content.

edit: agree with you too about nothing coming close to PT, i rewatch that all the time. well produced game + supernatural horror + human horror + jumpscares + slow burn creepy + cute banter + both of them into it and forgetting the camera was there. it has something to please everyone. that's a hard thing to pull off.

As many people have already said, spooky week was rather lacklustre.
FNAF SL - As a fan of the Five Nights at Freddie's series I rather liked it, although I really do wish that they played for longer. (Night 4 is pretty bomb)
Sonic2.exe - Meh. Nothing could have really saved this video other than the bants. But the over reacting and sarcasticness really overdid it.
Outlast - The only remotely scary game and a game that for once Dan and Phil seemingly wanted to actually play. This would have been a better fitting climax for the last day.
Timore Inferno - Interesting to say the least. Not the scariest but did give me a good scare during the first jumpscare. Graphics and enemies were sketchy, but in all added to the aura of the game.
Spongebob Slenderpants - Not the best way to end scary week and definitely not a climax. On one hand it was nice to see them finally win slender, but on the other hand it was just another bad rip-off of an actually good game.

In all I give this years Spooky Week 2 spooks out of 5.

#beepgate I hear/guess "bloody fuck fuckity cunt ??" not sure what the last word is - I'm voting for "whore"... "fuckity cocksucker" is a close second, but I don't feel like his cheeks hollowed out enough for either of those options, and the dimple goes away so it's unlikely to be "fuck" or "shit".

I agree with mermaid blood, especially and most importantly with the bolded part. I find it very interesting to read a lot of you guys saying "Ugh, Dan was totally overreacting" and on the other hand a lot of us saying "Finally Dan is genuinely scared". And it were mostly/always (?) people who didn't find the game scary in any way that thought he was overreacting while the people who got into it, thought he was being genuine.

So how do we find out if he was scared or faking it? Fact is, we can't know for sure. But we can assume based on past reactions and things we know about Dan.
Dan is a very overdramatic person when he's scared (and in general, at least in his videos). He said shitting related things before in his Outlast video. And I don't think anyone would say that he wasn't genuinely scared back then. In most of the spooky videos, he tends to lean backwards when a jumpscare occurs and starts swearing. Also, we do know that he's scared of the dark and trees and that slender really got to him (unless you believe he wasn't genuinely scared in the original slender, that's another story then). Keeping all of this in mind, I can totally see Dan being scared by a game like Spongebob Slenderpants. Maybe also because he wasn't expecting to be scared and therefore he was taken by surprise.
When we look at Phil, he was really horrified by the Outlast 2 demo (and nobody can tell me that that wasn't genuine), while Slender jumpscared him a little, but didn't really get to him.

What I'm trying to say is that we shouldn't accuse them of faking their reactions just because the game didn't get to us personally. I'm not saying Dan (and Phil) didn't overreact or even fake some reactions throughout spooky week, they probably did it at least once, all I'm saying is, that we can't really know unless it's obvious and they aren't even trying to seem scared (like Dan during sonic.exe).

This is what I do when I procrastinate, which happens on a daily basis

I feel like I should react because I was one of those people that said they didn't find the game scary and that boys were overreacting. I bolded a part where you said that you think Dan is really overdramatic person when he is scared and I agree to the point that it's just an act for the entertaining purpose of the video. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing because the majority of their audience enjoys it and it works for them. I don't like it because I think that irl Dan isn't that easily scared and when he is he definitely isn't screaming and falling off of chairs. The most genuine scary moment for me is at the end of the first Outlast when he gets scared by a microphone. He just gets shaken a little bit and is flailing his hands.

25:33

We don't know them in person so we have no idea how they naturally react to things, so this is just my personal opinion based on years and years of watching their content. And yes I definitely think that his reactions in the first Slender or any FNAF videos are fake and overreacted. I remember that in one of his old liveshows (in 2012 possibly) Dan said something bad about Slender, that it was boring or something. I have no idea in which it was and really don't have time to go through them. Also I might have dreamed it so And for Phil, he definitely is faking some of his reactions too but it's not to the point it would get on my nerves.

All in all, we are all an individual human beings who percieve and enjoy things differenty and I definitely appreciate reading opinions from other people with different taste. :)

That's why it's great to have this forum: We're able to see Deppy from the perspectives of other people. We wouldn't even question some things, if we had no access to other opinions. Well, there's the comment section under the videos and tumblr, but that's a whole other story...

I think the screaming part might be subconscious (I don't know if it's the right word to describe it), sometimes more or less mixed with overreaction. They know they're filming a video and people expect them to act scared. Therefore in the moment of a jumpscare, they might not really think about their reaction and just scream because subconsciously they know that people expect them too. I'm thinking that this is a possibility because I know that when I watch a scary video, I don't want to alarm my flatmate and neighbours, so I don't want to scream and so far that never happened. I do not have time to think about it in the moment, but luckily my body knows that screaming wouldn't be good. However, when someone jumps at me from behind in a daily situation, I'll scream my lungs out. Might be reverse for Deppy

So yeah, we've seen how both of them react to genuine scares: Phil being pranked by Dan always resulted in him screaming and jumping backwards. Dan tends to be more silent (eyes wide open when Phil scares him, he grabbed his chest when the microphone fell down in the Outlast video). Dan and Phil both screamed when that balloon popped in their Sims video (there's a possibility that they planned that). Those reactions are not completely different from their reactions when they know they'll be scared, but still not the same. So you could take that as a sign for them acting, but I see a more dramatic version of their usual reaction (e.g. Dan not just grabbing his chest but ripping his onesie open). So maybe fake and genuine both are the wrong words, but controlled or influenced work better? And well, as I said, I'm not sure if they're always aware that they're acting different.
No idea if this is a thing or complete bullshit by the way, it just came to my mind and made sense

Re: falling off chairs: yeah, I doubt it's always real, but I also don't think it's always fake. If I remember correctly Dan first fell off the chair (while playing a scary game, not incuding the countless other times) during FNAF. I assume that one really happened the way it did, but all the other follow-ups of him almost falling again, were on purpose because he realised how funny it was. But then again, this is up to interpretation as well.

I really enjoyed Timore and the Spongebob Slenderman videos actually! I didn't really think Dan was into FNAF or sonic but I thought he was quite invested in these games in the last two days of Spooky Week. Does anyone know when the DAPGOOSE Q&A video will be up on their channels? Also, to those talking about Halloween baking, I think Phil mentioned in some LS that they aren't going to bake this Halloween but he would like to bake for Christmas.

Off-Topic: I haven't even gotten their first TABINOF yet and I'm considering it - do you guys know if it's worth keeping for multiple rereads?

I assume that one really happened the way it did, but all the other follow-ups of him almost falling again, were on purpose because he realised how funny it was. But then again, this is up to interpretation as well.
I'm definitiely with you on that bolded part and I also agree that the expression "more dramatic" is better then "fake". So I think that we can all agree that Deppy act a little bit different because of the camera and that they want to be more entertaining and the real difference here is that some of us like it/don't mind it/are entertained and some of us would much rather watch their natural/less controlled reactions (which is probably never gonna happen, let's be real).

About the falling off chairs thing: imo in the first FNAF he fell because of his overreaction to the jumpscare, he saw people found it funny so then he acted like he would fall again on purpose in some other videos. Basically what you have said :thumb:

Did we talk about Vine? If we didn't, then let's talk about Vine.

Pretty much unless some white knight steps in, it's RIP and vine stars are not taking it well. I wonder how Deppy and other youtubers are feeling. Did it remind them of fleeting nature of Internet mediums? Spur more of them into looking for back up career options?

What do you think would be the best medium for Deppy's longevity outside of YouTube?

Radio, maybe? I liked what they were doing with the BBC, I hope they are wise enough not to burn bridges with them. However, I don't think either Dan or Phil would be successful individually in traditional media (that's just my opinion but I didn't like Dan's documentary or the Hunger games interview, and I think Phil is too awkward/strange for the general public on his own. In my opinion they balance each other off pretty well).

On a different note, I've seen on twitter that there are 90 days left until Phil's 30th birthday. I know it's just a number, but they might do something special. Do you reckon they might visit Japan again, this time with hot spring bro time included? (in recent liveshows Phil has been making subtle comments about going back to Japan next year )

That was my first reaction when I heard the news about Vine, since I never really got into the app, aside from chuckling at a few that popped up on Twitter. People tend to forget that Youtube, Tumblr, Twitter, etc are businesses, and businesses can be sold, revamped, or shut down completely. I don't think YT would ever close its doors that suddenly-- it would take years of dwindling participation and struggling ad revenue. But it could happen, and I think a lot of Youtubers don't have backup plans.

I honestly don't know what Deppy's plans for post-YT could be... I don't see them wanting to go into radio full-time. Maybe they'll follow the path of their ill-fated colleagues before them and start a tv talk show. Or hey, maybe Dan will go back to law school and Phil will become a weather man

I feel really bad for the viners, honestly I do, but I just don't see something like that happening to Youtube. Youtube just keeps expanding and indicating that it's growing, like more youtube spaces and YTR and the youtube merch store. I really don't think youtubers have anything to worry about, and although they probably sympathize with viners, they probably don't really need to worry about empathizing.

If Youtube ends up dying, it will probably be in the far future, my guess would be that it would be replaced with something new just like TV is being replaced with youtube, and by then all the prevalent youtubers today will be up to their tits in savings and will be just fine retiring.

That being said, if a meteor hit the Google headquarters and youtube was suddenly abolished, perhaps dan and phil would try to go into film? directing and writing, that is.

Strictly Come Dancing?

i think what Director Ed said about them in the documentary, about them working hard to do whatever it is they want, means they will succeed at anything they try for. The trick is really wanting it. Dan could totally be a lawyer, but if he doesn't want to, he wont put in the effort. Phil could be a big time director, but maybe he doesn't want to. idk. I'm sure in a world without youtube they would have found something else they love eventually.

Like running a cat cafe :)

I've just had a thought totally out of left field. (That's a lie. Chris Kendall's recent tweet inspired this.)

Remember that voice-over Dan and Phil mentioned doing last year that wouldn't be out until... well, now-ish. Did they ever specify that it was a show/movie necessarily? Perhaps they voiced a game? They are, after-all, sponsored by a major game developer.

Just a thought.
