I've been thinking about my ancestry a lot lately and I really want to take a test like that but a) I don't know how expensive that is and b) I don't want anyone to have my DNA, I don't trust humans and I don't want it to be used for something weird (yes, I am paranoid) :? Pretty cool and interesting that Phil's video was about a topic that really interests me. Needless to say, I loved the video

His huge head finally makes sense It's so interesting that we all have a bit of Neanderthal in us. And that every human has a little bit of DNA of one African woman (are those the 0.1% of African heritage in Phil's test?).

Also, the fact that he has German ancestry makes me think how there's a very, very tiny chance that Phil and I are distantly related. We do have a similar natural hair colour and basically the same complexion, so who knows

Oh my
And yes cherrybomb I instantly picked up on that. Weird phrasing.

Anyway I loved that video as always. I watched another video similar to this a while ago, and I've always found things like this fascinating

Interesting video.
Other youtubers i've seen take a dna test shared more detailed results but they used a different website.
He got the bit about balding wrong, his dad's side has nothing to do with it.

OMG I was just thinking the other day that a DNA test video would be interesting! Especially Dan, who's mentioned that his grandma is adopted and they aren't sure what her ancestry is.

I enjoyed Phil's video, but do think it would be more interesting if Dan did one.

I was thinking the same thing when watching Phil's video. I really hope that Dan does a DNA test as well I think it would be an interesting video.

I like that science Phil is a regular cast member. Too bad he doesn't influence real life Phil, who genuinely thinks his DNA will reveal he's part animal...Phil...just...why??

Also the quote at 1.00
"Well there you go, that's some good guys to have in the DNA swimming pool with me."

I also get the impression Dan filmed a portion of Phil spitting into the test tube, but then Phil made the call that it was too gross to publish online. (smart man)

I didn't like this video. It was filler, and would only be acceptable if he was uploading regularly, so it's kind of disappointing. I'm not sure why he's insecure about the information being sensitive or oversharing, considering he's just saying some basic information that most people can relate to.

Also, I sneeze when I look at the sun, but not everybody??

I always wondered why Phil has that shaped head? It's very unusual, the only other instance I see the same shape is when a person's head was intentionally shaped that way, like Tutankhamun. I like that he acknowledges it, but does anybody else in his family have that shaped head? It's just such a strange thing. Does it have anything to do with him having slightly more Neanderthal in him?

I wouldn't be interested in finding out my ancestry, the most exotic I'd get would be Anglo-Norman, no need to pay money to find that out. Also, Phil's insistence on doing an Irish accent regularly now is testing my patience and my nerves. unsubscribed

So.

Phil is white.

Kidding aside, I wasn't really feeling this video for some reason. It wasn't bad but these type of videos tend to be a bit boring to me unless there's really something there to be discovered.. which wasn't really the case in Philly's video. The only thing that was somewhat interesting is the Neanderthaler bit I guess?

Didn't like the blatant lazy and transparent lie about his mum's friend who is a doctor offering him a DNA test.. Plenty of YouTubers have done this, it's a pretty well known website at this point. Like if you gotta lie make it about something believable.

I'd like for Dan to do this and shed some light on his mysterious heritage. Though I feel like that something like that wouldn't be up to par with his quality standard.

I thought this had to be a #spon at first as I've seen some other YouTubers do DNA videos that were sponned (e.g. Domics), but it was some nice insight to Phil's genetic makeup, and I've always been curious about his head shape and general facial structure, so it was an interesting concept for a video. Kinda wish it had a bit more pizzazz to it though, as it was very "ooh look I'm part this... some people do this... I have similar genes to these people... okay bye!" Left me with creative!Phil blue balls. I suppose we've been spoiled recently, with the gym video and The Mark of Oxin, so maybe that's why I felt like there was something lacking. But oh well. Maybe he used up all his creative juices on the new DAPC video that may or may not come!

My DNA Test Results timestamps

:05 - Phil's Youtuber Voice (tm) is slightly jarring since his tone in liveshows and on the gaming channel has relaxed so much in the past few months.
:42 - Love science Phil. Also, he's wearing Tyler Oakley's glasses.
1:05 - Saying he's saved us from the footage does make me think him spitting into it was filmed. Just file that under 'things Dan and Phil do in their free time?'
1:24 - Phil, you don't need to volunteer which animals you aren't attracted to. It just looks a little suspicious.
1:46 - Very apt day for a Buffy reference.
1:58 - I wanted to apologize to Dia on behalf of Phil when he did the Irish accent.
2:29 - Alien!Phil confirmed.
2:36 - Remember when Dan and Phil were on Jeremy Kyle? Nice.
3:16 - Bros in the dna swimming pool. Much like the kangaroo comment, Phil, no one thought it was weird until you felt the need to point out that it wasn't.
3:37 - Second Buffy reference, nice.
3:48 - For .02 seconds I really thought he was going somewhere else with that bit about knowing he is able to taste bitter things.
4:22 - You shouldn't suckle on cows whether it makes you sick or not.
4:34 - With his skull shape, we can all celebrate that he won't go bald.
4:50 - Goes with "giving birth" when talking about his child. That is his standard evading-the-heteronormative response now.
6:05 - Dan and Phil definitely do not share a dentist kink.

Overall a bit boring, yeah - but I'm not particularly surprised, especially not if this means he's actually going to try to go back to posting every other week. I'll accept some fillers as he gets back into the swing of it. (Though, if he doesn't and this is all we get until mid-May, I'll be irate.)

Pfft, I did that three years ago. That's neat though, thanks for sharing it.

I also have the sun sneezing thing! Even though it's genetic, no one else in my family does it. I would be more suspicious if I didn't look exactly like my dad.

Agree the video was overall underwhelming though. Seemed a bit rushed and forced, but also true that there wasn't much interesting to say. Try again next week, please.

not just you!! i also really enjoyed the video. I would love to be able to do this kind of DNA testing, especially since I'm American but my mother was born in the Azores, and I'd love to see what kind of stuff I've got in my genes. It's too bad that these kits are usually really expensive.

I really hope that this means Dan did a DNA kit too. I think it would be more fascinating than Phil's.

i agree with alittledizzy, phils stilted youtube voice and obvious random joke tangents are slightly noticeable and dare i say offputting, especially when compared to his more amiable naturalistic way of speaking in other videos. i suppose its because phils content is directed towards a younger demographic and im just too old for his youthful exuberant bants :(

at this point i'm wondering whether it's not about possible pain kinks but more about their dentist being unusually violent. what happens in this chair that fulfills dan's kinky needs and causes phil so much pain. is getting your teeth cleaned by a dentist supposed to hurt that much. i have so many questions but all i know is that the last time i had that done"scrape me harder" was haunting me so thank you dan and phil

I think that the one he did was 23andme, which has a basic $99 one and a $199 one that tells you various genetic health markers, too. I wonder which one he did? If he just left the health stuff out, but got that checked too? Now that's what I'd be nosy about.

agreeing with you both!
Lately every time a AP video comes out I'm put off by his voice at first, because it's so different from how he talks in DAPG videos, which is much more chill and natural.
And you're right, this was one of the videos where I thought "I am too old for this". I still love Phil and how he is like during gaming videos, just this kind of content is meh to me.
Still enjoyed the video, but it was nothing special and very noticable how he dumbs down his jokes and all.

I actually have to disagree with this. Phil's demeanor is definitely his AmazingPhil main channel persona vibe, but I don't get anything dumbed down about it, and I'm not sure what is young-demographic about a DNA video where he discusses geneology and whether he has the trait for baldness or not. I also think he made plenty of jokes that weren't dumbed down - I mean, swimming pool with a bunch of men, and attractive kangaroos? Silly, but suggestive, and not for children to pick up on.

Phil's AP way of talking, moving and just looking into the camera just feel so completely fake now that we see him in a more natural and calmer vibe so often on the gaming channel I think. That's what made it off putting for me personally. I wish Phil would start bringing his DAPG ways to AP.

I get that it's the vibe he's got going on AP and there's nothing wrong with that - I still think the kind of humor is very different from his spontaneous one-liners on the gaming channel.
And this isn't about content - hell, I'd watch a good video about geneology anytime - but in how predictable his jokes and comments are. And you can't tell me that stuff like "I might be half cangaroo" or basically everything he said about genetics that has nothing to do with science at all - aren't his way of adjusting the topic to a younger audience. I mean it's fine, it's just not a very grown up video, no matter the topic

I would say they're his way of making the video content entertaining to any of his audience that didn't show up for a science lesson. I'm guessing Phil himself couldn't actually tell you the science behind DNA testing. It wasn't meant to be an educational video; it was just Phil discussing the results of his personal test. Not using explicit language and explicit sexually mature terminology in humor doesn't mean it's aimed at children, it just means that Phil doesn't use mature humor.

The video was alright I had really high expectations for it for some reason, probably because I really like those DNA test ones. I myself would love to take it but unfortunately I don't got the $$$ (lmao about that mum's friend lie though, is it a spon? not a spon? who knows). I agree with the people saying that it feels unnatural though, I get that maybe he can't help it because he's been doing it for so long, but DAPG!Phil is more enjoyable to watch. Still waiting on that video of Phil telling Dan's fortune btw, I need it in my life right now.

For me the video was just 'Meh'. A couple of people already mentioned the tone of his voice, and for some reason the things that were supposed to be funny fell kinda flat. Maybe I've heard "that's too much information" too many times.

I find DNA testing interesting, but maybe he could have done some sketches acting out the characteristics?? (really, I've got no clue, i'm not very creative).

Also, I found it a little disappointing that many of the characteristics didn't fit him. I was hoping for more info :D

(still love Phil though)

Generally, and this doesn't just apply to , I'm really tired of people making 'weird' jokes then immediately afterwards saying "lol sorry that was weird". It's not so much self-deprecation as self-censorship, or inversely, deliberately painting themselves as 'quirky' and 'interesting', which wears very thin after a while. That to me seems like the most obvious example of D&P 'dumbing down' their humour, and it's a template joke in almost every video. Don't apologise, own that so-called weirdness, damnit.
