(OT) Also hi everyone *nervous wave*. I was a long-time lurker over on.. the other place, but when it went down I realised how much of my life I was spending trawling through these threads (y'all are hilarious btw ), so a big thanks to those involved in making this site.

(back on topic) So waking up to find a new upload on DINOF AND DINI without any warning... the shock was the thing to finally encourage me to make a post. I'm a little nervous about just jumping in but this place is much friendlier than gigi so hopefully it won't be too bad.

RE - DINOF: WHAT THERE ARE SKETCHES TOO?! I never thought I'd miss that generic vlog music but crusty sponge Dan is no more. At least until the US Bour amirite? I really enjoyed the video, it was like 'classic Dan'. Seeing Dan with his fringe pushed back in a couple of the sketch sections was much appreciated, and that bit with the ... that's just purely p-l-a-t-o-n-i-c, right Dan? In January-April 2013 Dan was still full-blown "No Homo Howell", talking A LOT about finding girls hot and making disclaimers like "not that I date guys" and "I don't want the d", and while he wasn't as defensive as in 2012 it's still a bit uncomfortable at times. However the very same week(!) in May that Cat tweeted about Dan being straight, this is suddenly Dan:
^ first ever male attraction mention on the radio show
^ last ever gay denial
^ he mentions finding guys attractive a lot for a short while
^ and mentions finding girls attractive too, for a short while

and then he sort of clams up and doesn't really talk about attraction at all until 2014 (at least not in his liveshows) and he also stops answering questions about phan. Interesting that Cat would tweet about him being straight right at the start of that...?

There's nothing wrong with it between consenting ADULTS. There's PLENTY wrong with it when 14 year olds let their pimply faced boyfriends perforate their bowel because of a porn crazy and gay worshipping culture.

The CONSTANT debate about people's sexuality and the obsession with dragging people out of the closet is just weird to me.

No one was ever expected to 'come out' in past generations. Uncles or cousins would just turn up with their partners. It was never talked about. It was just accepted. They were just loved for who they were, not for who they were screwing.

This is something I've been too afraid to discuss with anyone out of fear that I come across as homophobic (even though it's obviously not exclusive to same sex male couples)... but I can't help but wince whenever anything butthole related is mentioned... I've never engaged in any sort of anal activities but doesn't it hurt? (p.s i am not at all judgmental at all just curious) Personally the idea of anyone doing anything to such a sensitive area makes me shiver... also the idea of 'loosening' that area to me aaarrg ... obviously many people do it so it can't be as bad as it seems but ??? Is this the wrong forum to discuss lol

???? family members were often disowned for doing something illegal, i don't know where it was just accepted. if i don't come out then i have my identity ignored. i don't want to come out but i have to to be listened to.
i mean, given the fact that anal sex is still illegal in a lot of places and was only decriminalised in england in 1967, and the age of consent stayed at 21 for gay men until over 20 years later, that's actually still a pretty big statement to make. obviously he meant safe anal sex. there is no gay worshipping culture when it still carries such a horrible stigma of disease and things. i don't know why, in such a throwaway comment, he'd think he had to clarify that he meant safe anal sex when that should be so obvious when he's specifically mentioned safe sex before the lack of education on anal sex particularly in poorer areas of london particularly among homeless/struggling queer men is entirely different issue and even then, a lot of the issue comes from not being educated due to anal sex being seen as inherently unsafe

Okay that does it, I'm going to squeeze meaning out of it myself. This post is kind of bs, please don't take it too seriously lol.

So on Mary 12th, 2013, he uploads a video in which he shows his attraction for a female character on a pillow. The same day he makes his last ever gay denial, and thus begins the process of seeding his audience, by continuing to make casual mentions of male attraction and refraining from confirming or denying his sexuality, so to speak. Then, on April 3, 2016, he uploads a video in which he shows his attraction for a male character on a pillow. This represents an important milestone. It's like he's come full-circle: we have a three-year period of him being more open about male attraction (turning the closet into glass, so to speak), sandwiched in between him caressing two different pillows, a female and a male. He said goodbye to his no-homo self with an act of blatant attraction to a female pillow, and has said hello to his real self on his main channel partly through an act of blatant attraction to a male pillow. The pillows are metaphors. All is clear.

Also, just look at the symbolism. With the Daenerys pillow, he's putting her to sleep (going to bed = putting 2012!Dan to rest?) and with the Haru pillow, he's waking up next to it (waking up = morning = dawn of a new era of openly-bisexual Dan?)

All of your posts are so compelling, I've been reading for about a half hour now. I officially don't have a life.
All I have to say is that the expression on Dan's face as he strokes the pillow is what really gets to me every time. Phil is no doubt filming it (may be another metaphor) and they probably had to do multiple takes... interpret what you will from that, I know I will.

How am I supposed to catch up on threads when you guys write so much omg! I just cannot keep up! I've missed the convo but I'm gonna put in my thoughts on the videos.

I as a non anime viewer really enjoyed the videos. I absolutely love Dan's sketches and I get really excited when he does them because that's what made me such a big fan of Dan originally. I appreciate that he kept the sketches really simple so that I could understand them, because while I know what anime is I don't know a lot about the culture. As much as he seems to want to move away from this kind of sketch content I wish he would keep it up.

I also liked the recommendations video - even though I don't watch anime. It's nice to here him talk about stuff that he likes and just hear him talk a bit more casually. Even though it was more casual and he made some 'mistakes' I really enjoyed the way he presented himself. I wish he could do more of this kind of stuff - talk about the music he likes etc. I understand he feels a lot of pressure to list stuff that everyone likes and is afraid of people judging his tastes in things but he should just do it! I have no interest in anime and yet I still like to hear him talk about - people will watch and like most of what he puts out so he should just do it!

I think you might be on to something here.
I am really curious for Dan's next live show and if/how he is going to comment on it all. I hope he will talk about it and not just to continue to Haru it all.

I know I'm late to the party, but I really loved the new Dan videos. I knew I was in for a good IDB binge when I saw the DINOF thumbnail.
I loved how passionate Dan seemed on DINI. I've recently been considering giving anime a go (FMA brotherhood is all I've ever watched (and i love it very much)) so Dan's recommendations came at a perfect time for me. Erased and Cowboy Bebop sound pretty intriguing
