It's kinda ironic on how Dan's the better actor yet he can't keep his emotions in check (like.. we can read him like an open book.. most of the time, anyways), while Phil is.. not really that great of an actor, but he still manages to keep a stoic face every. damn. time. ..You know what I mean.
When I see someone say this, I'm always reminded of an observation from a person on either this forum or the other one:
Dan is a good actor, but a bad liar. Phil is a good liar, but a bad actor. Dan may be good at acting, but when it's coupled with lying, it falls apart. Phil may be good at lying, but when it's coupled with acting, it falls apart.
Case in point: Phil's famed "angry DMs" that could scare the living daylights out of anybody.

And in regards to voldy: Phil stuck to one lie on Twitter; Dan tried to explain and explain and got caught in a web.
I generally agree with this, but I gotta say - Phil's 'oh shit, I fucked up' face when he is too caught off guard to lie is a blessing to us all. He's guilty of giving things away too, he just knows the value of moving on quickly and hoping people forget - and miraculously, they usually do. Whereas, as you said, Dan goes for overexplaining and it stands out more.

They're sharing more now... random selfies on instagram and the like which as far as I can tell is creating more discussion and interaction.
I don't think it reflects their fans as a whole at all. I think a lot of this is just fans romanticizing the past - and that works better if you force yourself to think the present is all doom and gloom and failure. Dan and Phil are at the top of their game, a few hundred fans who like to voice their opinions suddenly being bored of it isn't actually representative of much. Dan's videos still easily land in the 3-5 million mark, besides ISG (and fallout happens with just about any series, so I'm sure when posting one of those Dan is weighing video popularity with ease/lack of stress in making it) and Phil's are consistently at 1-2 million views.
They're both crushing the game in terms of subscriber to view ratio, no matter how much people want to shriek and point at falling stats. Their stats in the process of "failing" are a wet dream to most other youtubers. DAPG is even better in terms of ratio I think, they easily get half to a third of their number of subs in views. Their tweets and instagrams get more engagement this past year than they literally ever have, their book was one of the most popular youtuber books to date, their tour sold out venue sizes that most youtubers wouldn't dream of even trying to fill (and couldn't if they did try).
I think what most fans who are complaining want is for Dan and Phil to go back in time and remain the people who they were when those specific fans first fell in love with them,
except more open/honest/out/insert whatever specific desire. That isn't going to happen, and there's nothing wrong with admitting your interest in something has waned - but it's not their responsibility to cater to the minority audience who just want them to be what they used to be, or want them to hit some ideal that's basically impossible. My only wish is that more newer, engaged fans would show up here so the cycle of 'here's why they're awful now' wouldn't be quite so long-lived every time it happens or there would be fresh perspective to it in the process of debating. Because I do love the conversations that make me look at their content in a new light, I find that really valuable as a critical viewer, but when you begin to realize that people are going to have the exact same complaints no matter what then it gets frustrating.
