Phil use to be, not that bad, but in recent years… he's gone worse, i don't know if it's because his persona, or is just he didn't create those characters so he can't fully understand them. Dan is not that bad compare to Phil.

Dan was really aggressive in becoming youtube and it was really hot

This is a really interesting perspective because I think it's something I personally struggle with when it comes to viewing D&P (or more specifically Phil because I only recently started watching Dan) as internet celebrities. Youtube has made the jump from a social media platform to an entertainment platform, but I'm still stuck between viewing Phil through that friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend sense and the pop-culture-idol-entertainer sense. [offtopic]Does anyone else find arranged meetings with people they're a fan of more awkward than accidental/unavoidable ones? I went to a comic con once and met Tom Felton. And it was so awkward cuz I'm a HP fan in general not a big fan of him. And we had the most awkward conversation, he asked where i from, i told him china, and he said "i was gonna do a movie there once, but it didn't work out." And i was like "oh okay…" and awkward silence. Even though it was probably just 5 seconds it felt like forever. Even his manager who sat behind him looked awkward.

Bro I just wanna know about how theyre finding life on the tourbus.
I liked busgate. Not sure if it was mentioned but they seem to have three buses now, after originally only having three.

Also, I am just coming here to post this picture of them from last night because I just want to say Dan looks shit hot in that camo jumper (with added sweater paws). Literally all he needs to wear is some DM boots and this photo would be perfect. Pushed back hair, skinny jeans, camo =

I have met hundreds of celebrities, from scene-famous musicians to huge A-lister actors and lots in-between (it's a side effect of living in Los Angeles mostly). The amount of times those meetings were organized events like a meet & greet or signing, I can count on one hand.
I can say with absolute certainty the resulting interaction is totally based on the person and the scenario. There are certain people I wish I'd met at an organized event because in the wild, they were kind of assholes (had it been, perhaps I wouldn't have a distaste for them now and would have kept a positive opinion). Others were genuine and sweet and like talking to friends. Sometimes you get negative reactions from celebs, even if you're totally not bothering them during dinner or what have you and you just happened to be next to them on a train or something, because they just happen to be in a shitty mood and don't want to get recognized.
My roommate has complained about not feeling comfortable going to the grocery store without being done up and in the mood because he sometimes runs into fans (and I've seen reports of not-so-happy fans who's been on the other end of meeting him in moments like that).

As an example, I've met Pink twice. Once in the VIP section of a comedy festival. I asked for a photo and she kinda barked NO at me, then giggled and said "Oh um..my dude's leaving now so I gotta go sorry" and ran off.
The other time, I ran into her at a bar. She was wasted and in a great mood and I offered to buy her a drink. She thanked me and said she had plenty and grabbed me by the hand and forced me into the booth she was in and made me do a shot with her and gave me a huge hug.

I don't know if this has been posted but has anyone ordered anything from the store? I want to buy the cute blossom sweater and the galaxy backpack. Does anyone who has bought anything know about the quality such as the comfort of the sweater and the sturdiness of the backpack. Plus I need a new backpack for university, just needs to fit some notebooks and my laptop. Also if the sweater will shrink in the wash, I fit into an XS on the chart but if it shrinks I think I'll have to go with the S. I mean I'm all for helping out the boys but I just want to know from my fellow IDB members their opinions/reviews on the merch.

CAMO DAN. I am loving it.

On the meeting them IRL topic: I'd like to say I'd be really cool and casual but honestly I'd probably want a hug and a photo and tell them I think they're perfect sunshine cinnamon rolls

I meant more that the awkwardness comes from my side of the meeting, haha, sort of in response to mazza's comment about being fannish when meeting D&P. The person you're meeting is obviously a variable, though I've been lucky enough to only have good encounters with people so far.

And, oh man, Los Angeles seems so surreal in that way. Montreal has quite a few celebs wandering about too, but they're all French celebs, which is a new level of awkward because as soon as they hear your accent, they know that you know who they are but probably don't give a shit about them.

This seems a bit too off topic now, so...

EDIT: Oh, I do like Dan's camo shirt, and I usually hate camo. He seems to be realizing too that he looks great in long-sleeves.

i think phil's just better at improvising than dan is. their call or deletes are used as pretty frequent examples but they're the best examples out there. phil is able to take a loose concept and run wild with it meanwhile dan needs to be able to map out what he's going to be able to say and do.

Oof, meeting them is exactly why I didn't spring for M&G, I'm far too insecure for that. Though I live in LA I haven't actually run into a lot of famous people (maybe 20 total my entire life) but when I have seen them on the street, they just look like they're trying very hard to blend in and not be noticed, almost unapproachable. Not that I'm saying they need to walk around in public with a sign that says "walk up to me I want to be interrupted" but about 80% of them have given off the "don't talk to me" vibes and I respected that. It sounds like D&P weren't like that for the most part, for those who have met them in non-M&G settings, which is great. But my past reactions to seeing famous/celebrities on the street would just absolutely spook me into not saying anything at all to them.

I've only been to one M&G when I was in high school and it was my absolute favorite band and it was so awful. No eye contact, no smiles, just signed my magazine and shoved me along down the line. I embarrassingly cried after (at home, thank god not in front of them) it was so traumatic. Needless to say I'll stick to watching them on YT and from the balcony at TATINOF, lol

edit: Dan in camo but what about that jacket Phil is wearing? Is it the black bomber one or another? Looks a lot like Dan's leather-ish one, but I'm not going to let my mind run away with me.

Idk about the blossom jumper but I got the Xmas jumper and that did shrink a little bit in the wash (but I also tumble dried it so that can make a difference). It wasn't a huge amount, but it was noticeable.

And Dan in that camo jumper is everything I didn't know I needed

Sooo I babbled way too much about my thoughts on meeting them IRL vs in an M&G situation and now it's kind of off topic and is going below a spoiler! But seriously, you guys need to stop having conversations about such interesting topics while I should be revising, I either write way too much as procrastination or can't let myself say anything!
I actually just woke up from a dream about meeting D&P when they just happened to be sat next to me at Hamilton (so thanks for that brain, now my eventual Hamilton viewing will be just a little disappointing), and did meet them at a book signing last year, and I have to say that I think I'd rather meet them in a controlled situation. For me - and I think alittledizzy implied something similar - meeting them is a good 80% about me, 20% about them. I know I'm not going to somehow form a lasting impression above anyone else, what I want is a chance to see them and say my piece, then treasure the memory. Dan complimented my hair when I met them, and I know full well it's a bog standard compliment he gives out to about half the people there - I think he said the same thing to the person before me - but I don't actually care too much if Dan really felt strongly about liking my hair or not, he said it and the intent was to make the fan (me) feel good and it worked. And maybe after the meeting there's a disconnect and a 'oh yeah he says that to everyone' realisation, but in the moment of the M&G in particular I want to just be a fan and enjoy the meeting to its fullest in that mindset, without thinking too hard about it.

The concept of meeting them casually is kind of more scary because I know I'd struggle with not having anything prepared to say, and would probably end up spending half my time totally overanalysing their behaviour, making me more awkward and slow to react. A surprise meeting would lack the community feel and build up to a ridiculous fan mindset of an M&G, which I quite enjoyed, and I think I'd end up being hyperaware of my behaviour and analytical of theirs, and not just simply enjoying it. Also I think I'd rather they didn't really remember and pay close attention to me, actually, and might feel safer in the anonymity of a M&G. It would be a very different beast; meeting them IRL would become more about them, more of an equal interaction, and that seems more intimidating, though I now really want it just for the difference in experience! A controlled interaction is appealing, I know my role and they know theirs, something outside of that would leave me floundering - and I think that's a 'kind of socially anxious' thing rather than a 'massive fan, built them up too much' thing, but lbr it's probably a bit of both!

as I said I've now thought about this way too much and definitely said 'I' like a thousand too many times but hey, procrastination!
Not deleting it now I've written it all up and kind of realised what I want to say in the process, but for a tl;dr: I want to be total fan trash when I meet them in order to enjoy the situation more, and meeting them IRL would make that harder.

More on topic: Another Yeezy jumper Dan, really? How/when did he even get that? And I agree with hiddenwombat entirely about their acting skills - I think we've had similar conversations about Phil being a better liar and Dan a better strict actor?

I have one from the same range (not a one) and it's really good quality, no signs of wear even though I've been using it most days for nearly a year and regularly have my laptop/other heavy stuff in it. Would recommend

But they'd also be different if you met them and you were a friend, or if you were a family member, or if they were at a party drunk, or if you were in a professional setting, or if you were the receptionist in a doctor's office, etc etc. We all put on different faces for different people and different circumstances. No one is exactly the same person from every scenario to the next. What makes us up as people are all the faces we have for all the situations that we'll find ourselves in.

I don't at all doubt that Dan puts on a game face when going to a meet and greet/going onstage, but it doesn't seem any less like a real part of Dan than the guy on the street. It's just the part of him that he chooses to project on that stage as part of his job.

agree completely with that. It is a lot more stressful to be judged by your peers and people at the same stage of you (be it age, experience etc.), I think it is because we know or maybe more accurately feel that the judgement will be a lot more objective. It won't be coloured by their different experience and as easy to brush off. I am the same as you, I fear the judgement of other people my age/ other people similar to me a lot more.

As for meeting them, I am not as picky as you guys. I guess I would prefer randomly because the environment around wouldn't be as stressful with screaming people and security yadiyada. But I would take whatever. After all I just wanna see Dan up close and hug him

last thing, I am not into that camouflage sweater because I don't like camo clothes at all. The colours are ugly and the significance is uglier. Knowing it is kanye comforts me in my dislike.

I completely agree with these. And I can understand where Dan is coming from being that awkward when meeting a fan closer to his and Phil's age because I am the same. As daphenaxa and alittledizzy said it is more stressful being judged by someone of your own age than someone older or younger but in my case it's not only that. I am not a shy person and quite friendly but extremely awkward and socially inept and every time me and my bff are somewhere out in public together and we meet a friend/acquaintance/friend of a friend (complete stranger to us) of hers, close to our age, that I didn't previously know of my "stranger mode" turns on and I get all shy and quiet and just like Dan,I just stay there and let her talk and give off this awkward vibe until I am done with analyzing this new person and feel comfortable enough to say/ do anything. And again just like Dan, I am way more comfortable to have a fixed script and to know exactly what to say and when. Is this making any sense? Anyway I think this might be the same reason Dan is so quiet irl when meeting some fans.

And for the meeting them vs. not I think I would like to randomly bump into them more than a m&g because I prefer some awkwardness over the pressure of a m&g and the noise of it. When you bump into them I think there is quite a big chance to get a more real reaction and a more meaningful chat/ conversation with them rather than the rushed, scripted reaction and chat you'll get at a m&g

Also, that yeezy camo sweater looks really really good on Dan and I adore the sweater paws look on him

slightly late but i'm loving all the contributions on meeting in m&g and IRL!
i have never given thought on doing a m&g but i just saw troye sivan's concert and thought "darn, i'd like to see him up close!". but whenever i feel like seeing dan and phil up close, i know any kind of interaction will be having an everlasting effect on me (be it good or bad) and i don't want to put myself (or them) through this. i literally would do anything to be a fly on their wall though! or see them IRL and just watch/look at them until they are out of sight.
they are like a mirage to me and although i am aware they are real people just like me, and i feel like i know them through their videos they still are unknown to me. they have no idea who i am, and i'd like to keep it that way. besides, my imagination can beat any in real life scenarios of meeting them ;)

This is another very good point. I've had casual celebrity encounters being introduced through mutual friends and I've had (many more) meet and greet/autograph line type encounters and the ones that I get to enjoy huge build up to with my friends or share the experience in a group with are the ones I remember more fondly. And I didn't quote it but you nailed my whole intention with my posts yesterday - it's 80% about me and 20% about them. I don't know that fans approaching them on the street make them uncomfortable and I don't judge anyone who prefers that or aims for that - my opinions are based on how that meeting would make me feel.It would make me uncomfortable for all the reasons so many people have stated so well in this discussion.

Camo doesn't usually do it for me, but okay Dan, you work it.

Wow, that must be the ugliest piece of clothing I've seen on Dan. Sorry guys, camo is not about fashion for me, it's about military. And I hate it. And it's ugly. Even the potato sack is better, potatoes are fairly innocent. Sweater paws tho = total cuteness.

I must agree with others that Dan would suit some knee-high boots. Knee-high boots are cool.

Dan looks so cute in camo i'm dead, also about meeting them: I hate m&gs and everything about them so I think I'd like to meet them in a situation where I could maybe pretend I don't know who they are, because we know Phil likes chatting to strangers and i'm like that too.
