With the tour bus q&a and now this commentary it does seem quite likely that it could be on ytRed again. I know that Netflix sometimes offers extras, like they did that for Sherlock season 3, but it just seems less likely.
Another thought I had is that they could release a online code that you could purchase to download a digital copy. I'm just very curious.

I just remembered when I was in the How I Met Your Mother fandom on livejournal, we often did rewatches of old episodes. We would set up a poll with a list of the episodes and the ones with most votes would end up being the choosen episodes to rewatch (mostly 4-5 episodes for season). Then we would set up a calendar with the dates of the rewatch and open a thread dedicated to every season rewatch so we could discuss it. There were exceptions for it when festivies would come along, meaning that during October we would go for Halloween - themed eps, December Christmas - themed ones and so on. We could do something similar, maybe?Ablissa wrote: Wed Oct 03, 2018 2:00 pm I definitely think we could set up watch parties here and then spread the word onto other platforms. Just knowing a person or two that has more followers (sadly this is what it all comes down to with things like that) and having them pass it on would give us more interest.
Are there normally like, group chats while watching, or is it just people agreeing to start the video at the same time and later talk about it on their social media platform of choice?
Anyway, even if it doesn't take off, this would be a fun thing to do as users of IDB, I think. This is my favorite part of the phandom tbh.
@ instastory - aaaaa I'm so excited when is the movie coming out whenwhenwhenwhen!!

Excited for directors’ commentary. Did not expect. I see people joking in Twitter about it coming out on VHS and I didn’t even get the joke at first, I’m that old
Yeah, I think discord might be too confusing for some people, not everyone uses it. A thread on IDB would be great, provided people know how to use the forum haha. We could link to thread directly so they don't get lost on the way.alittledizzy wrote: Wed Oct 03, 2018 2:14 pm I actually don't think that'd be a great idea. I think anything that people have to actively sign up and join would just turn into a group chat and put people off. If people want to do a chat and rewatch, we could have a thread for it on IDB? That would it wouldn't be closed off to lurkers, even people who don't want to "chat" by posting could still watch along at the same time and read what other people are saying with full lurker capability.
I'm actually quite excited for this. I'd be happy to help set it up or just do it myself if no one else wants to, but it would be nice if we did this as a group thing since everyone has different experiences.

So between the comment of ‘put that on the back’ and a directors’ commentary, I’m thinking this could be a physical thing (as at least as one option). Does Netflix have commentary options? Or perhaps it could be an Amazon Prime thing? That would work with both hard copy and digital! And how long does physically creating DVD/BluRays take?
God I’m so here for the commentary. I can’t say I love them in general, as if I’ve watched listened to many, but umm The Lord of the Rings ones, especially the cast, yeah that I loved. And it’s Dan and Phil reacting to themselves and banting and hopefully giving some creative insight.

I'm excited too! i think idb could be good! A direct link should be easy for non-forumy people to deal with, and we could post the link on the other platforms (that being said i just had a flash-forward to a bunch of new ppl finding this forum and having to have the phan/phanti debate again and I lost four years of my life).Ablissa wrote: Wed Oct 03, 2018 2:28 pmYeah, I think discord might be too confusing for some people, not everyone uses it. I am conscious of the fact that most the phandom don't have an idb account though, and therefore would either need to sign up or not comment. This all comes back to how splintered the phandom is.

I took Dan's "put that on the back" comment as a snarky prod at Phil's review for being so plain. I don't think it was literal? I can't remember what Phil said but it was something like, "it was fun". The directors commentary threw me off, but I would like to still think it will be available on Netflix. Who knows?? I'm excited though, I've already forgotten so much from my August show that I'm ready to relive it!autumnhearth wrote: Wed Oct 03, 2018 2:55 pm So between the comment of ‘put that on the back’ and a directors’ commentary, I’m thinking this could be a physical thing (as at least as one option). To @autumnhearth:
I'm sorry for butting in cause I know the discussion's moved on, but I just wanted to say something about increasing the Phandom engagement. I do think it'd be fun to do that, but there's also the consideration of timezones. As somebody from the east (and who has a relatively normal schedule now as opposed to last year when I was still doing post-grad and was awake at the wee hours of the morning), I'm gonna hazard a guess that most of us would probably miss it. I'm really thankful to the IDB peepz for recording their rize liveshows as they seem to happen mostly evening-wee hours of the morning for me, so I keep missing them. As I always say, you guys are angels.
So if there is a schedule like that for the proposed fandom activities, can we have the events multiple times at different hours in a day? So that people with relatively nearer timezones can bond together and do the events. Also, there would be a constant stream of activity, and peopple can drop in at any time. It may seem divisive at first glance, but I do think that that option would be better than always hosting the event at times when some of the others are sleeping, or in class, or at work, and alienating that portion of the Phandom.
I do agree that at this point, the way of spreading information the best is through big accounts, especially on Twitter, particularly UpdatedPhan. During my zenith of fandom engagement, I was active on Tumblr and on here, and when I was kinda out of the Phandom, I was still mostly interacting on Twitter. So my perception is that most people who are still very active in the Phandom would be on here & Tumblr already, and those that are more casual would be on Twitter. I have no idea about the IG fandom.
Also, during the II show, I did mention the forum to people, but only 1 of them knew about IDB, which shocked me because IDB is at the core of my Phandom experience. From what I've observed after talking to people during the show (so this might just be applicable to our country), most of them already have their friend-groups that they talk to in gcs, and just get Deppy-related information either from their own friends, viral posts that get retweeted, or info from big accounts. One way that would I think help with fandom dissemination would be through fanfics. I think it's a unifying force because from the convos I had, almost all of the people I talked to do read fanfics, no matter where their usual platform of engagement is, or their level of interest in Deppy. So if widely-read authors could participate in the info dissemination by just putting up a link at the notes of their fics, it could reach more people.
As to organized fandoms, the Phandom is actually the most organized one I have ever been a part of. We have the best library of fics, have a forum where people can freely chat, etc. Maybe my experience might just be a product of stanning only groups that are considered to be past their primes, so most of their fans aren't as engaged anymore.
But I've observed that the very fragmented fandoms do come together if there are big events related to the fandom (for example, whenever an MV nears 100M, even inactive fandom members go on a retweet spree and put out tweets to encourage people to watch the video). Again, announcements for this watch-spree come from the big accounts that mostly everyone in the fandom follows (in my Kpop fandoms, usually the fansite masters who have an established follower count already).
But along with that, there's always that need for new blood. For example, one of the groups I stan is 13+ years in the industry already, so you'd expect that the level of engagement for most fans would have died down. I would be the first to admit that It's not as loud as it was when they were still at the top, but one of their recent comebacks brought in a lot of new fans, which has brought new life into the fandom. It's the relatively newish fans that do have that burning desire to be part of a fandom experience, and usually are the loudest when trying to promote the group. Plus, with the throng of new fans coming in, older fans are also encouraged to be active because there's a boom in the activity in the fandom, and relatively newer fans tend to ask questions so a lot of old discussions are hashed up again. But that rush of new fans came because of an awesome comeback. So relating it to Deppy, our want for a more active fandom would come at them being able to create content that would attract new people and arouse the older fans.
I have more thoughts about this, but I've already blabbed a lot. Forgive me for doing so. Hope all of you have a nice day!

Just to say they both look lovely in that photo. Two hours of commentary, woo! I listened to the Tabinof audio book about a dozen times, this should be good.

Hey all, just a quick reminder that if you want a copy of the floorplan of the filming flat I drew up (using evidence from their videos/photos) to message me asap. I'm planning to delete the doc at the weekend (unless there's continued interest in getting it).
Also, for those already with the link, I made a couple of changes to correct some info and to replace an incorrect photo if you want to redownload/copy/save it. Nothing major but wanted to point it out.

@RiriPandaHeart2 that was a good read! id quote the entire thing but im on mobile still. to add to that, i totally forgot about the phandom directory but thats also a piece in helping the new people get organized and settled in.
re:chat/discord - i suggested it cz for some reason i thought it had an anon option? tho i had made an account a long time ago for a (now dead) dnd group i was invited in but ive long since dropped it. maybe i just remembered it wrong?
re:group viewings - the more we talk about this, the more im excited for it. i do like seeing peoples real time reactions for these too. i do agree with the time zone problem. if we can get volunteers to organize small viewing events then it could totally work. like maybe have a set date/time so that people can put it on their calendars. im just wondering how many people will be interested in joining in at first tho, so maybe we could do a thing to lead up to pinof 10? like we could hold viewing parties each week watching pinof 1 - pinof 9, leading to the "estimated" upload of pino 10. this mostly works if we know when exactly it comes out...but if not, we could just give some leeway, or maybe ask dnp about it?
re:just phandom events in general - can we think of any other special things we can possibly do for the 10th (lol) anniversary? like we could plan and trend a hashtag for the day it uploads and have everyone celebrate by either writing them heartfelt messages of all the good times that happened in their time in the fandom? there could be fanarts, fanfics, fangifs, fan everything. idk, we can go wild.

Discord might have an anon option - all the ones I've ever been in required me to sign in, but that might be a choice the group creator made. Though full transparency, another reason I'm not keen on discord is just the penchant group chats like that have for stealing forum members away and never giving them back. Speaking as a forum member here, not just an admin, but I think if we want this to actually be something IDB does then it's nice to have it actually take place on the forum instead of directing a group of forum users away from here in a potentially permanent way.ame wrote: Wed Oct 03, 2018 11:02 pm @RiriPandaHeart2 that was a good read! id quote the entire thing but im on mobile still. to add to that, i totally forgot about the phandom directory but thats also a piece in helping the new people get organized and settled in.

Another benefit for a thread would be that it can be a 24 hour thing? We can either schedule multiple times when people want to get together on it or it can just be that people watch it within the same 24 hour period and leave comments as they watch. If the people who are interested in doing this are engaged enough to keep coming back and keep conversation happening it could be cool? Then if it's even moderately successful in thread form here with like, gaming videos, then we'll know it's worth it to do a lead up to pinof 10? Because I really love that idea. Like watching pinof 1-9 in the weeks before would be so fun.
I'm really excited for this idea and I think we should give it a shot! We have nothing to lose, worst case scenario is we just do something fun together as a community here on IDB, and if it takes off then we might have a lot of other people coming in.
So we should probably decide on a few videos for the first watch party, then make a post with a vote on what to watch first, set a time to watch it and until then, post it on social media so that people can join us?
Of course it'll be hard to pick a time that is convenient to all, but we can do the same watch party more than once in different time zones (although this might make them all less popular, so I'm not sure if we should? Maybe just alternate times between different groups, but they all watch something else?). I think a weekend will be the best, maybe Sunday?
(I'm editing this for like the 5th time oops) I think it could be good to try and set a time specific time for most people to gather. Then if someone can't make that they can join in the conversation that will hopefully still be going on later.
Like I said before, I'm happy to help with setting this up if help is needed! I'm not sure who is going to start it but I really hope we give it a try

I’d be so on board to watch and discuss the pinofs leading up to the 10th one. I feel like for as central as pinof is to phandom and it’s creation, it’s not really something that gets discussed, as it only happens once a year.
Honestly I’m on board for any sort of group watch and discussion, especially if we’re expecting dnp to go quiet around the beginning of the year (that’s a thing right?)

we totally could. i like the idea of doing a small test run before actually doing the pinof marathon and a select choice of gaming videos would be a nice one. now im just thinking of how the forum thread would look like and how would the event work. weve talked about it vaguely and it seems like everybody is on board, so maybe we can start talking about the specifics?alittledizzy wrote: Wed Oct 03, 2018 11:33 pmDiscord might have an anon option - all the ones I've ever been in required me to sign in, but that might be a choice the group creator made. - what - gaming videos are a good start. personally, im fine with any but lmao if i had to choose, dan vs phil ones are pretty fun to rewatch.
- how - are we doing it ala rabb.it style? are there other better alternatives just in case?
- when - how to accommodate timezones? have several scheduled viewing per day? im terrible at times and dates so im tapping out on this part sorry

I love this idea!
I've never used rabb.it but it seems like it could be a good idea if we wanted to just watch and chat at the same time. But if part of the purpose is to raise view count then that might not be the best (if i understand it correctly it just broadcasts your browser to others?). As a start it might be a good idea to set up a thread here, decide on a video and just chat about it. Timezones are an issue, but maybe we could decide on a few times over 24h, so ie 8pm in London, New York and Manila, or just have it opened for 24h for people to talk about it when they can.
A slight problem with IDB and "live chat" is that it can be a hassle to get a post through if many people are posting at the same time. Sometimes when something exciting is happening you have to click submit three times because people keep posting in the meantime. Is this a function that can be turned off for a certain thread to make it smoother for live chat? Or should we encourage people to post more like timestamps?

This is such a good idea. I'm for anything that helps keep the phandom and engaged and happy place especially when the boys are quiet.
I haven't built up a massive amount of followers yet but I'll definitely promote it, and give people a prod to donate at the same time

I don't know how rabb.it works either, but I have always wondered if it counts the views on youtube or not. I agree that a thread on the forum left open for a limited time would be a better option, mainly for the timezones. This way everyone could watch the videos when it's best for them and then discuss it here.
I'm kinda getting hyped about this watch party thing, so I really hope we can do it!

Hi everyone! I've been a long-time lurker on IDB but this recent discussion has made me so excited that I overcame my fears and made an account. I can't wait for the group viewings to begin
@double dimple welcome to IDB! Awesome that you decided to start posting!
rabb.it wouldn't count youtube views, I think? I thought about this too, but if we're trying to get the boys some more views, it's best if we don't use that. (also we should definitely disable adblock when we're watching!)
Some more ideas are:
- we use rabb.it for the first watch, but then everyone plays the video again to give the boys views (I'm not sure how many people would actually do that)
- we set a few different times to meet and everyone just plays the video at that hour, then comes here to discuss
- we set one time to meet that should kinda suit everyone and watch all at once (I still say Sunday or Saturday)
@kavat I like the timestamp idea! People could just post their notes. But I'm not sure how much discussion that would encourage if everyone just writes a long list of things? I don't know, there are many ways to approach this. One downside to posting while watching is that people will have to pause and switch tabs, I guess.
If we're doing an IDB-only test run first, most of these issues are not issues at all, but if we want to get more people from the phandom watching, then we should decide on a few things.
@ mods, should we make a separate thread for this discussion, or keep it in the main thread?

I don't think rabbit is the right choice, it lags easily with a lot of people and it's not the right thing if the goal is to actually help them with the views. I think it could be nice to start a weekly/biweekly viewers party like on Twitter, or maybe start a new thread like the bookclub, where we decide on a day (24h to help with timezones) and maybe give a couple of points to start.commenting along timestamps
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and the beauty of Phil Lester.
