3) Favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?

4) Least favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?

5) Favourite video Dan posted this year?

6) Favourite video Phil posted this year?

7) What was your favourite dnp meme of this year? (e.g. week in march, moving theories, phil + the vase, any other memes u can think of).

8) Favourite livestream of the year? (Can be singular, joint, or gaming)
1) I think I'd go wih Phil's channel, since he uploads more frequently, has a lot of collabs with Dan and because his videos are more casual and easily consumable.

2) I like Dan's liveshows more because I feel like he always has something to ramble about and he shares his opinions on things more than Phil does.

3) The Charades videos were my faves and I can't really pick between the two.

4) Definitely Poptropica! I just thought it was incredibly boring, I didn't get the game and they didn't seem to be into it at all.

5) I absolutely loved Daniel and Depression but I also quite like the lightheartedness of a video like Dan Takes Quizzes About Himself.

6) I have a weak spot for doggos, so I really enjoyed Dan and Phil AND DOGS! As for a solo video, I'd probably say Why I can't go back to the gym.., I love storyteller Phil!

7) I dunno if this counts as a meme but I enjoyed seeing people roasting Dan's cake

8) I'm very fond of the joint live show where Phil "pranked" Dan using a plant spray and the first Youtube live show Dan did where he did a lil' tour of the gaming room. I'm gonna miss Youtube live shows :(

Re: Twitter drama
I've been following this whole Twitter drama but I...don't really get it? Someone posted a pic from Google Maps that shows where the selfie with Dan and those girls were taken but that doesn't necessarily mean that was just outside their apartment. I've seen nothing that proves that's their apartment or proof that those girls stalked Dan, so I think this is just a bunch of people trying to stir up drama tbh.

1. Probably Phil's because they always make me smile no matter how many times I re-watch them

2. Phil's. Same as the reason above and sometimes Dan hit's a little to close to home on some of the things he talks about that at times it's hard for me to watch. Like I need to escape from mind not constantly dwell on what's bothering me and at times dan is not always great to watch for that.

3. Not my arms Mario Kart.

4. The fireboy and water girl livestream-it was too much of a mess.

5. Obviously Daniel and Depression is top tier and holds a special place in my heart; I really enjoyed What Not to do at University too.

6. I loved the gym video and wished Phil did more story times but I feel like the Slime video was when Phil started to slowly shed some of his branding and begin to show more of his actual self. Like mix your cocaine into the bowl still makes me laugh.

7. The Bahamas drama was iconic and spawned a million theories that were amazing and then when Dan told the actual story it was sappier then anyone even thought up, like going all the way to the Bahamas just to spend more time with the Lester family- 10/10 sweet <3

8. I really enjoyed the overcooked livestream right before gamingmas started. That was a mess but in a good way. Like I remember cry laughing as I watched it. But if I can choose my fave moment from a livestream it's definitely "Phil's is obsessed with a corgi," *knowing smirk* "so brace for that."

Returning from my IDB break after the content overload of Gamingmas.

As far as the Twitter drama goes. If those girls really stalked them, then that's an obviously wrong and shitty and if a large percentage of the human population weren't blatant idiots I'd be shocked that this is still an issue but alas. However the person ~exposing~ has reputation of her own so I don't trust ha either. I wonder if they'll bless us with another visit soon, it's been a while. Also fml for needing to go on my other account for the second time this week to keep tabs on this person because she got me and half of IDB blocked.

Anyway, has Dan gone into hiding after Black Twitter went after his sad excuse for a cake? Or did Phil finally strangle him for not using his inside voice?

1) Would you rather only ever be able to watch videos on Dan’s channel or Phil’s? Why?
- Phil's. At least I would have something to watch.

2) What do you prefer - Dan’s liveshows or Phil’s? Why?
- Dan's. I like it when he overspills. :scram:

3) Favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?
- For some reason, I really like the first Harry Potter quiz. At first I was irritated bc it wasn't real gaming, but it's the video I've rewatched the most.

4) Least favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?
- Poptropica. I would rather rewatch The Memeing of Life.

5) Favourite video Dan posted this year?
- Daniel and Depression. For obvious reasons.

6) Favourite video Phil posted this year?
- This is a bit harder question. It's a tie between We're Moving Out and Viewers Pick My Outfits. Or Dan and Phil and DOGS. I'll go for top-3.

7) What was your favourite dnp meme of this year?
- Diving tips. Very underappreciated.

8) Favourite livestream of the year?
- I don't remember what happened in which livestream. The one Dan talked about commitment was nice tho, and I kind of liked all the ones where Dan was sitting next to his new piano. Somehow that environment made him relax.

1) Would you rather only ever be able to watch videos on Dan’s channel or Phil’s? Why?

Probably Phil's, since they're more rewatchable and casual, I would say.

2) What do you prefer - Dan’s liveshows or Phil’s? Why?

Dan's. I don't even ever watch Phil's, they're just boring to me? I like hearing Dan's opinions on stuff.

3) Favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?

Either The Sims or Golf.

4) Least favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?

Definitely Poptropica. It was just.... I don't even know, I couldn't watch it all the way through.

5) Favourite video Dan posted this year?

Gotta be Dan and Depression. It was so real and #relatable and I loved it. I did love the quiz one, though.

6) Favourite video Phil posted this year?

Definitely Viewers Pick My Outfits! Or maybe the hair curling one. I'm a slut for their collabs.

7) What was your favourite dnp meme of this year? (e.g. week in march, moving theories, phil + the vase, any other memes u can think of).

Probably the vase one.

8) Favourite livestream of the year? (Can be singular, joint, or gaming)

No idea, to be honest. The Mario Kart one?

dramatic times like these make me really grateful for finding idb earlier this year, because as this is like an annual occurrence at this point, it's stressed me out to the point where i feel like i need to seclude myself within the phandom and find the small percentage of people who don't give a fuck and just roll their eyes at that shit. idb has just been so great because i feel like a lot of people think alike here, and are more mature than some, which idk maybe i sound snobby but i appreciate it.

but honestly i really can't stand how entitled people think they are to deps and other youtubers personal lives, it pisses me off so much because every time it happens there's a change in the dynamic within the phandom. but i guess what's done is done, and i think i need to take a break form all of this before i get worn out
i mean it probably won't hurt me to stop catching up on everything here at 3am and making massive, pseudo-analytical redundant rambles about whatever my tired brain latches onto lol

also i'm loving reading the answers to the questions. while the drought is definitely going to set in hard in the next couple weeks, it's nice to take the time to reflect and chat a little

1) Would you rather only ever be able to watch videos on Dan’s channel or Phil’s? Why?
Dan's. As much as I love Phil, I relate to Dan and his content more.

2) What do you prefer - Dan’s liveshows or Phil’s? Why?
Dan's. I'm a huge..Dan fanperson or whatever. I feel that I can relate more to his liveshows and that I just generally find them more intriguing and interactive, i guess.

3) Favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?
Mario Kart Not My Arms challenge

4) Least favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?
Poptropica

5) Favourite video Dan posted this year?
Daniel and Depression

6) Favourite video Phil posted this year?
Viewers Pick My Outfits, for sure. I love their collabs

7) What was your favourite dnp meme of this year? (e.g. week in march, moving theories, phil + the vase, any other memes u can think of).
The week in March cause a lot of phandom members on tumblr were freaking out about it.

8) Favourite livestream of the year? (Can be singular, joint, or gaming)
I don't have a particular favorite from what I remember. I think the one where Dan did a nice livestream where he had his nails painted and wore yellow for Hello Yellow. That was a good wholesome one.

To be slightly tangent to your post, I find it so interesting that (for the most part) the ppl on this forum, especially the active users, tend to be a bit older and a bit more veteran in the online fandom department. I'm super curious now to know how long y'all have been involved in fandoms, Deppy or otherwise. I wonder if having a longer history in fandom(s) factor into idb's mostly positive, chill, and tbh slightly jaded atmosphere. I also wonder if it's this way because forums in general are more OG for fandoms than modern social media (ahh livejournal, may we never forget you). Whatever it is, I agree that idb is radical and y'all who created this forum to save us from that other place are amazing and deserve to be canonized as saints.

Also, weird question but speaking of fandoms, do we know what fandoms the Dep twinz are interested in? Lbr, despite how much Phil tries to hide it, he's totes an active fanboi. I remember bryony talking about being in the Avengers fandom in one of Dan's videos, I wonder if deppers were too. I swear, with the quality of Dan's fanfic he must have a secret AO3 account with at least 3 WIPs that haven't been updated in forever (haha no judgement, I may or may not relate to that  )

I've seen nothing that proves that's their apartment or proof that those girls stalked Dan, so I think this is just a bunch of people trying to stir up drama tbh.
(i hope it's okay that i took this out of spoilers <3)
I agree with this!! Like, how have people concluded that the photo was taken outside Dan and Phil's apartment? Where is the proof that the girls knocked on their door (which would be impossible anyway given that we know dnp have an intercom system in their apartment)? It seems more likely to me that they genuinely did just happen to bump into him out and about - the fact that Dan's wearing a jacket in the picture would also suggest that he'd been outside. I scrolled through the girls' twitters the other day out of curiousity and it seemed like they'd just been out for drinks and bumped into him on their way home - why is that so unbelievable?

If their address was publicly known prior to this then maybe I'd believe they did deliberately show up outside the apartment, but it wasn't as far as I'm aware so I really do think that people are just trying to create drama out of nothing. Seems silly to get riled up over something for which there's no proof - just because there is an apartment right by where they met him does not mean that is Dan and Phil's exact apartment, surely

And my questions because why not jump on the bandwagon:
1) Would you rather only ever be able to watch videos on Dan's channel or Phil's? Why?
I'd say Phil's, because he has all the Day in the Lifes and most of the collabs, and I generally find his videos more rewatchable than Dan's. While I do enjoy most of Dan's videos, I often find that I'm satisfied with just the one watch.

2) Dan's liveshows or Phil's? Why?

Hard to choose. I find Dan's more stimulating (lol i'm twelve), and find that he's more likely to go deeper into topics and talk about things like sexuality and gender. However, there are many Phil live shows that I find absolutely lovely - they often have a really cosy vibe to them and I really enjoy when he tells stories about his childhood or time at university.

3) Favourite video from 2017 gamingmas?
Taste Our Rainbows and Golf were the two videos I gave a 10/10.

4) Least favourite?
Poptropica. 4/10 at most.

5) Favourite video Dan posted this year?
Daniel and Depression, which is potentially my favourite video he has ever uploaded, ever.

6) Favourite video Phil posted this year?
Of his videos that don't include Dan, I really loved 'Why i can't go back to the gym..'

7) Favourite dnp meme this year?
Definitely the Phil's wife rumour, both Dan and Phil's responses were iconic.

8) Favourite livestream of the year (single, joint or gaming)?
Single = Dan's 'everything is different now' ls, which was his first ls from the new flat and featured Dan saying that 2017 Dan is his favourite Dan, Dan saying that being authentically yourself is one way to feel happier, and Dan confirming that he and Phil will one day adopt a dog together :')

Joint = 'Pranking Dan with Plant Spray!'

Gaming = 'MAKING A PHANDWHICH: Overcooked #2'

the place the photo was taken with dan is very close to where they live, the girl who posted the “proof” showed pictures and it’s not that hard to find their apartment from it if you know what to google. i’d say it would be an extreme coincidence that they were just there randomly that close to where they live but who knows

I'm pretty sure that before Phil had his 'Amazingphil' channel he used to make buffy fan edits. Phil also mentioned one time in a gaming video this year about reading an mpreg avengers fanfic. So I know for sure that Phil is definitely into fandoms but Dan only talks about his kinks never his fandoms-except for that one time he said he was part of the political fandom, which I'm choosing to ignore.

Maybe I'm just super naive, but I don't get how people would find their apartment, given that they've shared basically no information - they've never filmed or taken pictures from the outside or even through the windows, so like.. how would people know for sure? Unless someone saw d or p leaving/entering the apartment? I just don't get how people are so certain that that's their apartment, but I also don't really want to know, so I'll leave it at that I guess

I liked reading the responses too, that’s why you can always make the non deps related ones in the other forum. It’s a good way to get to know people too :)

In regards to the twitter drama - it’s the same people at the middle of phandom drama, not sure why anyone entertains it tbh it only encourages it. if people just ignored the posts then half the amount of people wouldn’t know about it because it wouldn’t be so hyped. It’s only made the situation 10x worse because people are getting involved.

1) Would you rather only ever be able to watch videos on Dan’s channel or Phil’s? Why?
Definitely dans. I prefer his content and his humour is very similar to my own. I like that he isn’t as pg as Phil and he’s a decent gamer so I wouldn’t mind watching him play games etc - phil does tend to frustrate me a lot more on the gaming channel (sorry phil) because he just isn’t as good.

2) What do you prefer - Dan’s liveshows or Phil’s? Why?
Again, I’m going to go with Dans. I like his attitude in them, he’s honest, gives good information, can be very blunt but also mostly gives his opinions on things. I like that he talks about music a lot and he doesn’t do the “Hello to xxx” thing that Phil does for ages.

3) Favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?
Either Dan and Phil get real jobs or Undertale Genocide. I can’t decide between them.

4) Least favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?
Poptropica, it was truely terrible

5) Favourite video Dan posted this year?
Dan and depression - one of his best videos by far, was very informative and honest and I really think it would have helped a large amount of people watching it

6) Favourite video Phil posted this year?
Anthony, Dan or a rat - really made me laugh and showed an evil side to Phil with all the awful selfies.

7) What was your favourite dnp meme of this year? (e.g. week in march, moving theories, phil + the vase, any other memes u can think of).
100% vasegate, literally made me laugh so much. The week in March thing kinda bugged me towards the end as Dan made it kinda clear he didn’t want to talk about it/wasn’t a big deal but the phandom didn’t give up.

8) Favourite livestream of the year? (Can be singular, joint, or gaming)
dan and phil vs subscribers - phan prix. enjoy watching them play mariokart because I love the game!

This is an interesting observation! I've been in so many fandoms before this one... I've been in fandoms and wrote fanfic before I even knew what that means :D I think I've been writing fics for like... 15 years now (I was 12 back when I started and they were terrible). The internet was a completely different place back then, and fandoms were different too.

Your question about deppy and fandoms made me think of how many different ways there are for a person to be in a fandom. Are they active posters in a community dedicated to their fandoms of choice? Do they make gifs or fan edits? Write fanfiction? Something tells me that no, they probably don't, but it's a fun thought. They could be in fandoms and be more passive about it, but still enjoy it immensely. I think that out of the two of them, Dan would be more active, but I might be wrong.

As for which fandoms... Dan is pretty open about his love for GW2, I would be surprised if he wasn't an active user on some forum or even the subreddit (which we know he has posted in). They both love Star Wars and Marvel. Phil loves Buffy, but that fandom isn't very active (or alive) these days (or is it?? I have no idea). Dan is a Pokemon fanboy, but I'm sure he didn't write fanfiction for it, the way I used to do when I was 12 (get your mind out of the gutter, it was just Ash/Misty, not Pikachu/Charizard or whatever people get up to)

I wish they spoke more about the things they're passionate about, because they're both amazing when they go into fanboy mode.

I saw the tweet... But no other proof... I'm angry but also calling bullshit tbh. I hope it's just people begging for attention because if this is true jesus christ I've lost hope.
This basically goes for me too. If it is true then it's awful. But unless I missed something deppy's address is still unknown so they could have incorrectly guessed it. The whole thing could be fabricated and the girls may not have been trying to find their house/ stalk it anyway. But if they have guessed an address, were stalking outside it and managed to actually bump into dan, there's a high chance their guess was right or close.

I swear, with the quality of Dan's fanfic he must have a secret AO3 account with at least 3 WIPs that haven't been updated in forever (haha no judgement, I may or may not relate to that  )
I think being fandom veterans helps with perspective. I generally have an attitude of 'this, too, shall pass' with pretty much everything dramatic. I'm 32 and I've been active in online fandoms since I was about 13 (though that activity level was pretty limited at that age, posting fic and chatting via onelist/egroups and icq). I've been heavily active in fandoms since I was 18 and went to college and had internet that wasn't dialup for the first time in my life. So even if you just count from 18 on I had over a decade of fandom experience pre-deps.

Definitely think that forums attract not just older fans but a certain type of fan as well, someone who wants real conversation more than just instant popularity. There's no element of having fans/followers/accumulating numbers here - everyone is much, much more equal. So if someone sticks around here you know it's because they really just enjoy discussing things!

I also def think Phil's read his fair share of mpreg based on the frequent mentions, Marvel would be my guess at fandom... though I bet he used to read Buffy fic as well.

1) Would you rather only ever be able to watch videos on Dan’s channel or Phil’s? Why?

2) What do you prefer - Dan’s liveshows or Phil’s? Why?

3) Favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?

4) Least favourite video from 2017 Gamingmas?

5) Favourite video Dan posted this year?

6) Favourite video Phil posted this year?

7) What was your favourite dnp meme of this year? (e.g. week in march, moving theories, phil + the vase, any other memes u can think of).

8) Favourite livestream of the year? (Can be singular, joint, or gaming)
1. definitely phil, dan's content just doesn't appeal to me at all

2. phil, again, because although i love him, dan's liveshows tend to either bore or annoy me to death (i can't remember the last time i've watched a full dan ls)

3. oh god, this is hard lol i would say either not my arms or dan and phil get real jobs

4. i didn't like poptropica very much, but my absolute least fave was undertale. bored me to death, being 99% gameplay

5. the quizzes one!! depression obviously gets an honorable mention, but i think the quiz video was the best

6. either why i can't go back to the gym, predicting dan's future, ebay mystery boxes, or slime. okay, choosing one is hard

7. the absolute best was the "phil's wife + kid" theory/rumor, that was so hilarious, esp since they both addressed it

8. solo phil would be Linguistics with Lester -- i don't think anything special happened in it, but looking through lessamazingphil i recall rewatching it tons, it must just be a particularly calming one. gaming livestream would be any of the phan-prix mario cart streams!

so because personal questions aren’t allowed in these threads i thought i’d ask some dnp related questions to get us through the dry spell! :D also a good opportunity to reflect back on dnp as a whole throughout the year.

1. Phil's. I find his videos comforting and they make me happy.

2. Phil's, for the above reason. Honestly, when I'm feeling down, I just tune in to a Phil liveshow/rewatch one.

5. Depression video, obviously <3

1.) Would you rather be stuck in the universe of the last book you read or the last movie you watched? (and then tell us what book or movie it is!)

2.) Would you rather never be able to use a touchscreen or never be able to use a keyboard and mouse?

3.) Would you rather live in a virtual reality where you are all powerful or live in the real world and be average / never make a difference? (assume the virtual reality is just about as realistic as the real world, but still not quite the same.)

4.) Would you rather have an unlimited first-class plane ticket to any destination or never have to pay for food at restaurants?

5.) Would you rather lose the ability to read and write or lose the ability to speak? (I guess you wouldn't be able to post on IDB anymore but is that really such a loss?(jk please don't ban me...))

6.) Would you rather be put in a maximum security federal prison with hardened criminals for one year or be put in a relatively relaxed prison white-collar criminals for three years?

7.) Would you rather be able to be free from junk mail or free from email spam for the rest of your life?

8.) Would you rather know the uncomfortable truth or believe a comforting lie?
1. Book: They Both Die at the End
Movie: Crap, dunno. Probably A Series of Unfortunate Events?

In that case, book. I don't fancy living in the ASOUE verse haha, and TBDATE is pretty similar to the real world, just with DeathCast.

2. Never use a touchscreen. Whatever, I could use arrow keys on a phone or something. Not giving up my PC. Easy peasy!

3. So the VR is just like real life except you're living it knowing it's not real? Hmm. I mean, either way, I won't make a difference, so I might as well have fun while I'm at it.

4. Never pay. I don't travel that much.

5. Lose the ability to speak, duh. I'm practically mute. I'd hate being illiterate so much; practically everything I do requires literacy.

6. Prison is prison. One year, and just pray that the other criminals don't beat me up or anything.

7. Difference being? Oh wait, you mean junk snail mail? Free from snail mail then, because spam emails are just funny to me lol.

8. Uncomfortable truth. I'll have the red pill, thanks.

but honestly i really can't stand how entitled people think they are to deps and other youtubers personal lives, it pisses me off so much because every time it happens there's a change in the dynamic within the phandom. but i guess what's done is done, and i think i need to take a break form all of this before i get worn out
i mean it probably won't hurt me to stop catching up on everything here at 3am and making massive, pseudo-analytical redundant rambles about whatever my tired brain latches onto lol
also i'm loving reading the answers to the questions. while the drought is definitely going to set in hard in the next couple weeks, it's nice to take the time to reflect and chat a little

i l o v e this topic ! Hearing about ppl's history with fandoms is so interesting to me. For me, it feels like I've been in fandoms for a long time (probably around 7-8 years) but I know that a lot of people here have definitely been around way longer. I think being in many different fandoms for a long time can give you perspective on how a fandom works, and what you should and shouldn't engage yourself in. In some of my first fandoms I remember getting involved in some comment discourse which now a days I would just avoid because adding to it wouldn't really benefit anyone. I get the general vibe for this forum that a lot of people here have been in internet communities before and have learned a lot about how to talk with other fans and etc.

I don't think the fact that this is a forum makes the community more chill, forums can totally be a bad place in fandoms sometimes. I think that it's the culture of the phandom in general that makes this forum a generally good place to stick around. Most of the phandom is either on tumblr, twitter, or instagram (I highly suggest you never go to an instagram fandom oh god please learn from my mistakes). Each of those have thousands of users and no way to really regulate everything. Those sites aren't secluded phandom spaces either, they are just communities spread out through social sites. Fans in those communities know that people outside can see them as well. You feel this pressure to make sure that the fandom you're in looks good for the people who stumble across it so they don't shit talk the community you belong in. Especially since deppy are on those sites and can easily see what everyone is talking about.

A forum in this fandom is like a little island in the middle of all it. I mean, we have like what, a thousand members? and not all of them are talking on here either. Compare that to the amount of people who took the dnp survey which as like 25k. And still, not every phandom member took the survey. the thousand people here likely heard about the survey through word of mouth from other members (@alittledizzy thnx ur the reason i found idb i luv ur tumblr). So it ends up making a community of people who tend to be a bit deeper in this fandom, and have much more similar interests then the big melting pots that are famous social media sites. Of course we aren't perfect though, we have are own downsides like other communities in the phandom.

Basically, I really like this forum and the people on it, and I'm a really bad writer but I try. This got sappy quick hhhhh. I'll shut up now :happytears:

Saw that there was apparently drama in the phandom, came here and found myself nothing more than slightly exasperated and annoyed. Some people love to stir up trouble just for the sake of it, and that's all I have to say about that. :daddy:

1) Tough choice. I like Dan's solo vids more but I do tend to rewatch their joint videos a lot. I'll still say Dan's channel because there are baking vids there as well, and Dan and I share a sense of humour (generally).

2) I used to watch Dan's live regularly but not Phil's (because of the timezone difference), and although I've been too busy to watch either lately, I love Dan's more because I have a love of listening to him talk. I find his rambling more engaging than Phil's, and I also dislike how Phil says so many hellos to the chat.

3) GOLF WITH FRIENDS GOLF WITH FRIENDS GOLF WITH FRIENDS
... or maybe Not My Arms challenge idk

4) Poptropica. SO BORING. One of the only times I've had to force myself to keep watching, because I have an insatiable habit of watching every deppy video to the end.

5) Daniel and Depression. Even though I (gladly) couldn't relate to it, I absolutely loved his honesty and how he was able to turn a very serious part of his life into a genuinely funny, entertaining and very Dan video. It reminded me of all the reasons I subscribed to dinof in the first place. :love1:

6) Dan and Phil and DOGS. It was well cute.

7) Although I found Week in March funny at the time, it's a little upsetting in hindsight, so I'll go with both dan and phil acknowledging Phil's secret wife and kid. (Or was that last year??) I also really liked vasegate. :D

8) I haven't kept up with their solo livestreams so I'm gonna say Overcooked. All three (?) videos were pretty funny to me but I think the first is my favourite.

What a weird coincidence, I just had a conversation yesterday about this forum being kind of a haven for the older members of the phandom. I generally try to avoid the social media parts of the phandom, apart from occasionally searching the tumblr tags -- mostly just because I find them to be a lot more cringe.

I definitely agree that a large reason is because forums were a much more popular way to interact with your fandom of choice back in the day. Personally, I started getting involved in fandoms about 10ish years ago, and I was active on forums for both the Harry Potter and Twilight  fandoms at the time. I was pretty into the Sherlock fandom as well a few years ago when it was big on tumblr, and I definitely felt like I had less interaction with the famdom through that site. (also have any other former/current sherlock fans noticed how much Dan low key shades that fandom and johnlock shippers? I always wondered why )

I'm 26 and I never actually participate in fandom before I joined IDB. I mean, I liked different bands and TV shows but I never read much about them online or interact with other fans, except like maybe during a random conversation or something. Partly I never had nothing much to say about the stuff I liked and partly I wasn't confident about my English. But :deppy: put out content regularly enough (lol) that I had found I had things to say and I saw there were lots of other non-native English speakers and no one was giving them a hard time, so I decided to join in here. :D

I've been active in fandoms since I joined a HP RPG forum when I was 12. I also spent a lot of time on livejournal, read sporkings, fanfiction, was very into AVPM, the works. However, IDB is actually the first forum (other than gg) I've actively participated in since that first one. I spent a lot of time on various websites and wikis, following active communities until they petered out or moved elsewhere.

I still think forums are cooler and much more organised than tumblr for fandoms. Imo tumblr is very prone to creating cliques rather than big cohesive communities.

I've never really interacted with any fandoms before IDB, other than essentially instagram comments. This place always had more interesting discussion and I'm very glad I made an account.

I think the forum format (try saying that five times fast) is probably the best for building a community. The main thread means that everyone's basically talking about the same thing most of the time, and that everyone can have their posts seen.
On basically every other platform, people who try to start an account barely get noticed at all, and those who are already popular are the only ones who have any attention.
The forum provides a good equalizer, as there's nothing that would mean someone gets more attention than someone else other than how much someone posts, and there's no followers or numerical value that someone might put their own worth into.
