I am so out-dated but just need to share something about this. It is not about rebranding but more about Dan ensuring no one else will get that url.

There was a big fuss made by Matthew Lush as when he first set up his couple channel Lush, it was under youtube.com/lush but later youtube gave that url to the Lush company and Matthew's channel was downgraded to youtube.com/user/lush.

If you talk about rebranding, about 3 years ago or so, youtube gave the "famous" youtubers the prerogative to change their channel name e.g. Nerimon became Alex Day, I think that is rebranding. He has the new url youtube.com/alexday which mirrors youtube.com/user/nerimon.

Also youtubers like Zoe are given their new mirror url e.g. youtube.com/user/zoella280390 can now be assessed through youtube.com/zoella similar to Dan.

I am not sure though if you need to pay a premium if you have youtube.com/XXX instead of the normal youtube.com/user/XXX.

I think he has had the youtube.com/danhowell for a while, as you noted, to make sure no one else gets the name - what's significant about it is that until recently when you went to youtube.com/danhowell you were redirected to youtube.com/danisnotonfire - it's the opposite now, now he's using danisnotonfire to redirect to danhowell.

dizzy I never noticed before when Dan had youtube.com/danisnotonfire as I had always been directed to /user/danisnotonfire, I guess Dan being the hoarder of all urls had both /danisnotonfire and /danhowell reserved .

So his url mirror is set similar to Alex Day i.e. if you type /nerimon it goes to /alexday, only thing Alex changed his youtube channel name too (another youtuber that rebranded was LeFloofTV to Sacconejolys). We need now to wait if Dan change his channel name too.

I hope he doesn't change his channel and social media to Dan Howell. I like danisnotonfire. It's a fun name, it's old school and reminiscent of old youtube and it's the channel I grew up with. Changing it would be for me another step in becoming blander and unoriginal like all the youtubers that have changed their username to their real name. We know he is Dan Howell, there is no need to change the channel. If he wants to improve it, he should just make better and more worked on content.

I mean isn't this the best moment in the world, i love seeing them struggling not to fall out of the closet.
