I would say that this is the foundation of their comedy, it's a classic routine that has been around since the early days of vaudeville - which is kind of ironic since several of the venues they are playing in the US are former vaudeville houses...

i'd join you in the premature greying there. i hate it so much i think i've subbed and resubbed about 5 times in the last 2 years.

laughing just at the start of a take, staring at Phil or staring at the camera all formed in 2014, but i'd love to be proven wrong and have someone find an example from earlier. (I feel like the stare at Phil thing had some early examples in the last SAP episodes?). to a lesser extent for Phil, his wide-eyed facial spasm, and avoiding eye contact with Dan which he never used to do so obviously. to me it's very much a coping mechanism for not being totally sure how to act within that joint branding.

i'd love to get inside their heads and see what changed; whether suddenly being very self aware of their marketability and schtick caused it (perhaps when they got the first big awards hosting things through BBC?). because they did plenty of content together including a web series and a very successful national radio show without these ticks. now they even subtly cross over into their liveshows.

to me this is what i think of when i think of their 'personas'. i don't think they're entirely conscious behaviours. (though also not out of their control, as we've seen)

Not hanging out with the merch crew much doesn't surprise me. they have a pretty intense schedule even by musician standards, and being introverted awkward types trying to find common bonding with 19-21 year old girls who are also their employees and who come across quite extroverted and hyper on their social media might be their idea of hell. no matter how much they respect and like them. i don't blame them for slinking off into their dressing rooms and bus. i think what makes them feel less unhealthily codependent to me is everything backrolls said, and i would add to that despite living and working together sometimes i can't gauge their emotional/intellectual closeness? by that i mean they are close, but they don't share every interest and seem to spend quite a lot of the day at home doing separate activities. coming together, then separating again. i think that's why it's so sweet to hear them talk about showing the other something, or when they admitted they disagree in the HuffPost interview. they each have great affection for the other's habits and interests, but haven't been subsumed into one twin-like agreeing organism. that's quite rare, i feel.

my only two cents to the top/bottom convo these days is that, if they gave me evidence i would gladly imagine them both engaging in anything. the fact of the matter is, they cultivate that fan perception with their own comments and behaviour, which could say a lot about what they actually do like and are capable of, or it could say nothing about that and everything about other identity issues. despite dubious behaviour from both of them in the past, i just give them the benefit of the doubt that it's the former. after nearly 7 years i would expect to see something inconsistent, but they've not deviated from subtle (sometimes not so subtle) implications of how they experience their sexualities.

During the almost 7 years they grew up so much they're almost like completely different people but this stayed the same no matter how much they changed. Since they really seem like good people they also get the benefit of the doubt from me that it's the first explanation. The other explanation doesn't fit how I think of them at all.

Anyways if the phan sex tape leaked and they had opposite roles from what I expect I wouldn't rush to debate it either.

Around 7 minutes in, after the first jumpscare, Phil said 'let's be brave' and it automatically reminds me of Dan's 'I want to be there so you don't have to be brave'. Lol.

I agree with the above, I'm not surprised they don't hang out the merch crew. I mean they don't hang out with their friends much at conventions and are always found lurking together at the back somewhere, so why would they hang out with two (pretty much) random people on tour.

I can't believe the tour is already over half way done, it's gone so quickly. I am still holding out hope for a DITL touring edition, and I really hope they do something like that, especially as they've got people filming on the tour. The next few days will be hella busy for them as they've got 4 shows back to back, and I'm sure a certain amount of travelling in between so I wouldn't expect much content in the next few days (although saying that, maybe Dan will surprise us with his next DINOF video, we can only but hope).

Felix is going to die of alcohol poisoning on Friday, poor thing. But also.. this should be good. I'm so thirsty for content, I'm excited for a video of another YTer (who isn't a pile of shit, protip) mentioning them

(plus I'm interested to see what he'll choose to show and what he'll say about things that maybe wouldn't make it into a D&P tag vid.. if you know what I mean). Because he's toned down how he talks about their 'ship', buut this could go either way. The joke could just be 'D&P are all over tumblr goddammit' and just general comedic frustration. I'm not even worried, I trust him, but curious to see exactly how he's going about it.

I'm going to disagree with you on this and say that I think about everyone who goes to my school probs knows what Grindr is. And also everyone who spends time on the internet. From tumblr screenshots to Tyler Oakley and other youtubers talking about it, its in no way a secretive thing.
The way that Dan says that in the vid is actually kinda funny. What he means by that is 'gay hook up', but he says 'Grindr'. Idk, it def struck me when I first watched the video. He finds something comedic about it.

*raises hand* straight person here and I defnitely have heard of grindr, so +1 for spaceguitar here. I think you might be underestimating the amount of useless trivia knowledge an average internet user acquires, regardless of that person being LGBT+ or not.

On the contrary side, I had a conversation with my parents a few months ago where they basically asked what Grindr is. I guess its a generational/ internet thing.
