I actually enjoyed some of Dan's videos this year more than I usually do and have rewatched those, which is something I normally don't do with his vids. To me he also didn't come of as fake.

Is it possible that your perception of what is funny and witty and well paced has changed? Kinda sounds like you are just seeing through it more as you get older. I don't know how long you have watched the videos for, but I know I found a lot of things funnier when I was younger than I am now because I hadn't seen so much of the world, was less cynical, and media wasn't as high quality in general. I think our expectations change as we grow older, and I think Dan straddles the line between what pleasing the fans of older videos and adopting a more modern format to appeal to fans of new media quite well.secretagentphan wrote:My personal problem with DINOF videos is not so much the pacing (although when I first found dan I actually stopped the video at first because it started off too slow and my sister had to be like "wait it's worth it he's actually funny, I finished the video myself after you left!") And more how almost fake it is? Like I'm all for camp and I know dans always been camp but the problem is its not as effortless as it was before, and not nearly as witty and inspired. It sucks because I personally think dan is HILARIOUS when he's on his A game, and I still think he's really funny on the gaming channel and the way he edits, it just doesn't translate into DINOF videos anymore? I think Dan's aware of this, so hopefully it'll improve for 2017
If what you like is the comic sans and the quick edits and the snark of the gaming channel, I don't think that will ever translate over to DINOF completely. It is an entirely different tone. There are one off videos like top dan memes where he takes that approach, but the stories and fails and the sketches have been consistent over the years and I doubt he plans to change it now.
Jacksepticeye made a great vlog about this topic, about how content creators change and how audiences change, and how it is ok if they drift apart, but I don't want to go through thousands of videos to try to find it.
Personally I hope he doesn't change to appease people who don't like his work. All the youtubers who have survived the longest are the ones who kept doing their thing and simply waited for people who like their work to keep finding them. Yes, they may have settled for smaller audiences, but they are dedicated audiences and much more supportive and pleasing to be around.

Nearly...2...hours...hold me
To be honest, I haven't enjoyed the DINOF channel much for the past.. 2 years? There are a few gems but I really just prefer his pre 2015 content. For me the only solo video out of DINOF that I truly enjoyed this year was actually I Nearly Blinded Myself. I appreciate the work that went into his Roast Yourself Challenge but unlike most of IDB I don't care for it (at least I know pretty much everyone here loved it at the time) and Anime Will Ruin Your Life was good (esp for a #spon) but doesn't do it for me upon rewatch. I think at the time I liked it so much because I was happy to see a real sketch video on DINOF again. Everything I else I either didn't like at all (hi thar ISG), didn't care enough for to like or dislike it. DINOF just feels so toned down from what it once was, like it takes itself too seriously. And with Dan going on about how videos are specific to certain dates in the liveshow a few weeks back he may really have started taking himself to seriously and he needs a kick up the arse or something.
I've mentioned it before, but it seems like Dan's 2015-16 brand involved being his audience's cool big brother or something. The clearest example of this is the progression of ISG. The current ISG videos are not at all like what the original one was; sarcastic and kinda rude. Now it's trying to be almost genuinely helpful. Videos like How To Survive Exams were (to me) so specifically aimed at a certain age which was weird because How I Survived School felt 'relatable' to all ages. Even all the memes and shit, like I enjoy some memes myself but it has become such a strangely big part of DINOF and it doesn't add any spice to him or his channel. It's all so bland to me.
Two fucking hours of Undertale..
boys y u do this to me?

I 1000% agree! I don't think I necessarily grew out of his humor only because I still find pre 2015 Dan REALLY funny, like when he's good he's good lol. I do see him going for the big brother thing which is fine if it makes him happy, but not really my thing. I'm sure now that he doesn't have the bour hell be able to focus on better quality content though! (Aka not JUST isg)

Ok, Ill admit it, I teared up a few times. That was lovely. I was especially impressed by their voice acting and how consistent it was and how rapidly they were able to switch between voices.
Knowing that they have to reset the camera every 25 mins makes the fact that they get tired near the end of longer videos make a lot of sense. thats a lot of work and stopping and starting is draining. Also, they film the intros at the end confirmed.
The beginning bit with Alphy's and Undyne made me want to see DnP eating ice-cream on the living room floor whining about how badly they messed up their dates, or how they can't talk to that cute person at vidcon every year and comforting each other because they are just both huge dorks who can't interact with people. It's an adorable AU that I need.
great game, great content, worth wasting 2 hours of my day for

and now... i am finally content. i am a small ball of lovely happiness, was just nice to watch them for 2 hours playing this wonderful game. im emotional right now, but they did it. it took a year, but they did it. and they seemed like they enjoyed it
glad dan went all the way back, that little bit of lore is quite important. the fights were really good, loved their reactions, loved the Alphys and Undyne parts bc they're just 'friends' being 'platonic' right?!
what a nice way to go into christmas eve. a bit of Dil later on, i am happy and content.

Their reaction to the dating roleplay (begins at 6:16)was definitely the highlight of the video. So funny!
I'm glad they didn't take the cheesy route and actually cry, like other letsplayers did, and that they were kind of done with it.

I loved this video so much, their reactions were really cute, especially about the Alphys and Undyne date. When they started going back, I was chanting to myself "go to the ruins go to the ruins pls go to the ruins" because I myself did go for another hour or more throu every corner of the game and talked to eveyrone and I found Asriel there too. So I was glad they did too. Dan would have liked to talk to Mettaton and Blooky, I'd say.
Oh boy, this just made me so emotional, I'm surprised they didn't cry. Well, both times (and now) when I played the game, from the moment I went to the castle to the end of the game I'm always a crying mess, so I'm surprised no tears happened there. At least with Asriel. Maybe it's even more sad the second (or nth) time you play it.
I had a good cry at this game again, thanks deppy.

I am so, so glad Undertale is over. Nothing to do with the way they presented the game, I just am not at all into it and it just goes on and on and on... Their enjoyment made that long-ass video watchable, though, and there were lots of cute or funny moments even if I really dgaf about the story at this point.
Only one more day of gamingmas now, and I can't believe they actually kept it up all this time.
Very grateful that they did of course, and I hope they're both going to get lots of rest for the rest of the holidays.

The hat fic was worse tho.
Oh man oh man remember the old school joy of shock fics?

I am so happy I asked lol.
I had actually written a shock fic once that dan actually liked on tumblr but it was on a shared side blog and I can't find it anywhere, oh well
