So much Sunday content! Phil’s ls! New DINOF and DINI!

DINOF: Remember what it was like to try and tune a radio station in for a few minutes before finally hitting the right frequency and hearing it clear as day? That’s the feeling I got watching the new DINOF. Spon, DINOF brand evolution, his attractions, knowing his audience…this was a golden moment where he balanced them all beautifully. I’m not going to speculate on where he might stand with his own identity (and some folks have made excellent points on here as to why not) but it’s hard to imagine that he doesn’t feel like this is a step toward seeing how things can be in the future. A moment of clarity, a breath of fresh air…I’m happy for him

Though I gotta say...having studied Japanese a bit when I was younger, I do, well, take note of his (and Phil’s in the Japhan content, though mister linguist fares a bit better) pronunciation. Like, “Ota-ku” the way you said it is a ward in Tokyo, Dan. Kudos to him for trying, though, not everyone would

DINI: I love me some passionatewaffly!Dan. My own experience with anime is that I watched it when I was younger (middle school, high school), back in the days when you had to buy $25-50 VHS tapes imported from Japan [insert official middle aged emoticon here]. That being said, I was never into it enough to watch all of the standards, so to speak. Even though I’m older now, I do maintain my diverse tastes in media consumption and may have to check out a few of those recs, such as Death Note and Erased, perhaps even Your Lie in April when I’m feeling angsty. And probably sneak a quick peek at Free! just to, you know, understand the references and all

Phil’s ls: He seemed cheerful and bright and energized (in that so-tired-I’m-kinda-punchy way). I enjoyed it immensely. Sunglasses story (I wanna hear the rest of the US embassy stuff now…what have our people done to you). Food chat (having had both poutine and currywurst, I get the whole ‘pre-sauced’ thing…though currywurst is delicious and, in a very un-Phil way, the cheese curds were my favorite part of the poutine). His American cinema popcorn story made me giggle for a good minute. Something about the way he was like “I didn’t expect a VAT of butter” (and you’re so right, Phil, we over-butter it out here). I hope he and Dan get to experience a cool American theatre for that movie, though, like Alamo Drafthouse in Texas. They're hardcore about the whole "no-talking" thing so it would be right up his ally- warning for coarse language:

Ah yes, the good old days, when homosexuality was illegal in England until 1967. Obviously, people didn't come out in past generations because they automatically assumed people were going to be 'accepting and loving' about their same-sex relationship.

The CONSTANT debate about people's sexuality and the obsession with dragging people out of the closet is just weird to me.

Obviously, this is just my personal opinion, but I am interested to know whether Dan is bisexual/gay/pan or whatever because I'm bisexual myself. I think this is where the fascination stems from for a lot of queer people, as well as people just being nosy af and wanting to know if Phan is real or not.
I have no desire to 'drag' anyone out of the closet, but seeing a YouTuber you've watched for a long time identify as a sexuality that is similar to yours is strangely comforting. It makes you feel a little less weird and alone. I am aware that online there seem to be a plethora of people identifying as something other than straight, but in my day-to-day life I very rarely come across other people who openly call themselves bisexual, and I go to quite a liberal university in the U.K. It's even rarer for a male celebrity to be so open about his possible same-sex attraction. I knew from a young age that I was bisexual, but having 0 role models to look up to I was a in state of perpetual confusion about my sexuality until I was about 18. The fact that this generation is different, that more and more 'celebrities' seem to be coming out or just don't want to put labels on their sexuality makes my cold, cynical heart a little happier.

This is all wildly off-topic and I apologize, I just needed to put that out there.

Yeah, honestly, I'm from the US south and lemme tell you, people didn't refrain from coming out because they were accepted. I myself today am not out to anyone in my family despite being in a long term relationship with a girl, and it ain't because I feel like they know and love me anyway. It's because I'm pretty sure they know but not saying it out loud is the only way for all of us to avoid them having to tell me that I'm going to hell and they disagree with my entire lifestyle and right to love/be with who I want, because of who I'm screwing. That is anything but a good feeling.

Am I projecting onto Dan based on my own experience here? Sure. But I also look at him and see a guy who really doesn't want to hide who he's attracted to and at one point seemed to draw personal pride from exploring his sexuality (in that brief period before the public eye became impossible to ignore) so I don't think I'm entirely off base in thinking that what he wants right now is his fanbase to accept and acknowledge his bisexuality, not go out of their way to dismiss or argue against it on his behalf.

And Dan is not only watched from that mythical country so ppl coming out helps the world - I know it might seem too over the top to say something like that, but every little bit helps. But no one is dragging anyone out - it's everyone's right to keep what they want private. But for someone who would have been attacked in my own country that I FLED it would be nice if ppl who are out of harms way could come out. Cause if they can't come out, then what chance do ppl like me have. So congratulations that you live in such accepting country, but not everyone does.
