It's indeed going to be interesting to know what whatever Phil will be joining Dan or not. They are capable to build their own network which could grow huge on youtube and have people work for them. So that is indeed one way to grow their business aside from TATINOF. But then again.. that doesn't sound like a deppy thing to do. Too much work if you ask me lol
On another note I do feel like starting your own network/business on youtube is kind of a too late thing to do now (like it was a last year thing if you know what I mean). But with the huge fanbase p&d might not have much of a trouble growing it tho.

I do think maybe one day Dan and Phil will take a step back from YT but personally I don't really get the impression either one is the type who'd rather have a career behind the cameras then in front. Like I think they'd rather present a radio/tv show then produce someone else's (if they could do both they'd probably be happiest though).

I would be genuinely surprised if they both took paths that didn't put them in front of a camera in the near future. Even if it's not YT I think that's where they like to be.

But that was a holiday and this is work. I'm still sort of surprised that they haven't really shared any photos of their new and exciting US tour life beyond that backstage pic with the sign. Like the only reason I feel like we aren't totally disconnected from them is because of the M&G pics and videos other people are uploading, not content they're posting themselves. I'm still keeping my hopes up for a tour DITL.
Yes to this. I was naively hoping for something. I would actually think that they'd want to share more during the tour than a vacation... especially since there are still tickets to be sold for a lot of venues & sharing more = more engagement = possibly more ticket sales because some people might be like, "They're having so much fun this tour... fuck it, I should go!"

I am always begging for a Dan live show because they are my favorite bit of content, but I'm also dreading the next one for pretty much the same reasons daichii listed. I fear it'll be hollow & just leave me more unsatisfied.

I'm currently not too bothered about the content drought yet (but I do want video today plz :wahh: ) but it's kinda annoying how when they're busy doing the tour the rest of us can just find another hobby for all they care, like this almost radio silence is boring af. I know touring sounds more exciting than it is (shit watching CTFxC taught me) but surely there's more to tweet about than cereal and memes when you're touring America. They're tweeting the same stuff they would back in London. Their no spoiler policy isn't helping of course, and the phandom spoiler police is truly infuriating, but they don't have to talk about the show. Just let us know what you're doing on that bus or whatever. We as a fandom aren't even that difficult to please, give us a selfie (preferably with the two of you) in every other state and we'll be to go on for another day. Put little 10 second clips of wtf you're doing on Instagram, or even better than that use those second channels. Even crappy hotel or venue internet can upload a 3 minute vlog filmed with an iPhone. :sideeye:

They do seem like the type of people that does not care much for money, specially Phil. But didn't Phil have a "looking at expensive houses/apartment" as a side hobby before lol
I mean how long can they be living in that "small" apartment of theirs when they have enough money to buy a house? I mean aren't they just slightly craving to get a fancier place? I mean they might not be wasting money like this but they sure as hell are wasting time, I would love to splurge on a fancy house while I am still in my younger primes if I could. But then again it's deppy...

Edit: our do you reckon they don't go about it because it will make it official? Siigh.. I mean bff's can buy houses together can't they? lol or...

Can't wait until Phil hit the 30 mark...
I would love it if they were to buy a house, but in their case it isn’t so simple (nothing is with these two). If they buy a house together than that obviously gives out a strong single that they are not just two bachelor bros living together. I mean it can happen, best friends buying a house together, but I do think that more people would find that suspicious.
Yeah, Charlie and Alex bought a house back in the day so best platonic bro friends can buy houses together, but Cherimon was pretty much a joke ship so there was just some teasing from fans and that was that. If Deppy buys a house together, nobody would believe the BFFL thing anymore especially considering Phil's age. Like why would someone who's turning 30 next year and can easily afford to live on his own in a nice flat buy a house with their bestie? No matter how fond you are of them, you're gonna want a space of your own by then right? Though living together for the years to come is also suspicious of coure. Or D&P are just that special.

I made myself sad by thinking of them moving out and living apart from each other, I need a phandom break because this probably isn't healthy. Like if news like that ever hits I'd be a mess oops. :')

They are seriously cashing in right now I totally agree with you, but that could also mean that they are not sure how long they are going to be as popular for and are just trying to get as much out of it as they can. Or maybe they are wanting to do more behind the camera stuff. It could happen, but I also think that they still love being in front of the camera right now. Then again they could always divide duties, by letting Dan be in front of the camera and Phil doing more of the behind the scenes stuff. With these two one can never be sure. Unfortunately only time will tell, so we may have to wait a while before we know anything. Keeping our eyes on things certainly can't hurt though.

Okay, I’ve had breakfast and here’s a more complete post.

I love how polarizing my post about 2012 was! haha.

I agree that it’s kind of a cringey and painful time to look back on, so I definitely don’t blame anyone who tries to avoid rehashing of it. I personally find it utterly fascinating though, and my nosiness and curiosity give me the strength to wade through the the angst lol. (Although that being said, I don’t think I’ll ever have the guts to go through the tumblr tags from the time when Voldy re-leaked. I’ve considered doing it, but I just can’t. I think it would make me scream.)
yonahime wrote:Oqua That is really interesting. So it was not dan and phil themselves that was unbearable in 2012, it was the phandom and them. The phandom caused unnecessary drama, and Dan gave it more fuel to the fire. But i can't really blame him for feeling that he needed to interfere? Of course i'm also not excusing him for being a d**k about it. Not to mention, what was that former title of Pinof 4? 'Hot Phantastic Action'? What.

Anyway, i think it's interesting and hope that this will get archived. Thanks for digging that up, that must have took a lot of time.
Yeah, it does seem that both Dan and Phil themselves and the Phandom at large were unbearable at times, and they fed off each other’s unbearableness. I have to say that I do think Dan started off relatively admirably with his text post. He was pretty reasonable. Then it seems like the incessant shipping and unrelenting drama got to him and he started to lash out more.

Just to clarify, “HOT SEXY PHANTASTIC ACTION” was the original title of the PINOF 4 bloopers video, not PINOF 4 itself.
spider wrote: oqua that was painful to read but the truth shall set us and the cringe free. Wasn't involved in the phandom during that time so it's enlightening to see what was happening besides Deppy's own drama.

No wonder Dan lost his temper a lot. Who wouldn't with an audience like that? How did stay sane and want to keep this career? It's easy to understand now why Bryony washed her hands of the whole thing.
As usual, I agree completely spider. :D

You know, I have to agree there is a certain amount of hilarity to the whole thing. The sheer over-the-topness of EVERYTHING is unreal, and frankly sort of amusing. It’s like a soap opera.

These reactions to Dan not posting for hours made me laugh:

^ we all relate to this sometimes -_-

And I must admit, the Wikipedia thing was really cringeworthy and I got major secondhand embarrassment from it, but secretly I was kind of living for some of the edits.

Plus I love how representative of old-school D&P the pages they edited were. Like glabella, llama, etc. It's hilariously cringe.

Honestly it warms my heart a bit that Dan went along with it. It’s like with the PROTIP thing. He secretly loves when the Phandom is united and obnoxious. The stuff might drive me crazy but on some level, I’m glad he and Phil supports their fans and I’m glad (for his sake!!) that he isn’t annoyed.

(It’s kind of funny how apparently the Wikipocalypse seemed like such a noteworthy moment for those who were involved. I feel like most people who are new to the phandom these days have never even heard about it. It definitely didn’t go down in history as one of the phandom’s greatest accomplishments, as some seemed to think it would.)
tymyky wrote:
jaej wrote:i was my most involved in the phandom in 2012-2013 and really it didn't feel like some horrible hellhole. tbh it was one of the best times. but the phandom was growing really quickly and was awful and there was always private stuff (like photos of dan aged 15 taken from friends pages) and people still bitter about dan overtaking phil in subs and i didn't blame him at all for trying to stop it. someone had to, and the more he was ignored the angrier he got me the more aggressive the posts were. and if you read the ~homophobic~ posts from the pov of a bi person being told "OMG ITS SO OBVIOUS THAT YOURE GAY OMG WHY ARE YOU LYING WE KNOWWW YOU DONT LIKE GIRLS" then it made sense imo.
I coudn't agree more. I was also an invested fan during that time but I never had that feeling that it was "the dark ages" as some people like to call 2012 now. I was on tumblr but I wasn't looking through the phan tags because I was kinda busy at that time (finishing high school, first uni year) and when some of Dan's post showed up on my dash I read them and was kinda sympathizing and agreeing with them (not all of them) even though they were sometimes rude. That boy had to put up with a lot of shit. Could you imagine what it must be like if you have a group of stalkers who call themselves your fans digging old photos of you and stalking your friends' social media accounts? Oh boy I would have snapped.
That time was golden ages content wise though. We got videos every week, liveshows where they everytime got the other one join in at the end and then the weekly radio shows started, the drama in phandom kinda died down and it's all rainbows and unicorns till now.
Thanks jaej and tymyky! I always really appreciate the point of view of those of you who lived through this stuff! You’re right, it was a golden age for content. When people think about quintessential Dan and Phil videos, I think they’re largely thinking of 2012 and 2013.
Catallena wrote:It's funny how the current Phandom is scared of the 'dark times' of 2012!Dan, when fans were just as responsible for the environment back then. The 2012 Phandom was a bit mad. Though also very amusing. Never a dull moment. Seriously though, shitstorms about nothing like with that text post drama. People flipping their shit when someone tagged Phan stuff on the main tags because they would be able to see it and Deppy had to be protected from those evil shippers!!!111one. The witch hunt against people who shipped it, causing people to put 'THIS IS NOT A PHAN IZ REEL BLOG' in big fat letters in their bio. Phan shippers going 'underground' (kids here's a tip: there's no such thing as going underground on Tumblr it's a public website) while anti-Phan shippers guilt tripped everyone into thinking they were the cause of the world being set to end that year. Who needs a Maya calender if you have a crazy invested fanbase? People are more chill now.
Lol Catallena your whole post is great, thanks! Really interesting insights and recollections!

Alright...... Alright. I'm starting to get pissy now. I've been offline all evening and thought mayyyyybe I'd come back to something. I should have known better.

We can debate until we're blue in the face whether or not this classifies as a 'drought' and yeah on videos alone probably not just yet.

But we usually get 2 hours of direct unedited contact time with them a week, plus a known date for the next radio show. Combine that with the fact I know they're out doing the most and I'm hearing nothing about it and you get one pissy 25 year old who should check herself but is ready to throw a phan tantrum at this point. A phantrum.

Completely agree this would be primetime for snapchat. Like, basically what the fucking app is made for. And that way they wouldn't be clogging up anyone's twitter/IG feed who doesn't care to hear any more about the tour.

Can someone recommend me some rabbit hole to lose myself down to entertain myself? Phan-related ideally. Oqua's 2012 snippet was good for that but I'm trash so something a little less angsty would be ideal please and thanks

Ngl, judging mainly by parts that I bolded, you do seem pretty bothered by the drought, and noticing this contradiction in your post made me slightly amused. It's like you're really trying to be calm but failing just a little bit  sorry for nitpicking, it's all in good spirit, promise

Oooh, this whole convo is sooo interesting! Agree that between the tour and the merchshop situtation they're quite obviously set on getting that sweet money right now and I do think that it's all leading to some Big Change after the tour/all the tours (depending on if they organise the Europe/Asia tours as well). However, can't really see them making the shift to work behind the camera yet; too much work, too much organisation, not enought of pure fun and being silly in front of the camera, which is what I think they enojy more. So, if anything, The Big Change that I'm sensing in the air would probably concern their living arrangements. Maybe it's Phil's 30 that speaks to me and tells me that their housing situation should become more stable, idk. And in some really creepy reality-tv way it would be an exciting event to witness. Ekhm, so whatever happens I will be excited for it.
Pls remember that I'm basing it purely on my intuition and my own life experience on when to make Big Life Decisions, i.e. I'm probably talking shit.

I loove watching their earlier gaming videos, especially donkey kong and blindfolded Portal but depending on how you feel about their current D&Pgames content it may go wrong... basically wouldn't really recommend it if you're frustrated with the channel and don't want nostalgia to hit you in the face.
If not, then maybe go on youtube start with illmakeuhowell videos and then go for some recommended ones and boom you'll easily waste 2 hours of your life on some edits
idk both work for me, but maybe i'm easily pleased

Like literally tho. They are aware that using snapchat doesn't mean they have to document every aspect of their daily lives, right? We get it, guys. You value your privacy. You like to have total control over what we see and what you convey to us. We see it in Phil's predictable tweets. Dan literally implied a divide between filming something for an audience (I think he said something like being clowns on a gaming video) vs enjoying the game on his own time. Maintaining their..... personas....... for public consumption is probably kind of draining for them, so I get why they pick and choose when to offer glimpses of their "candid" moments on social media.

5 seconds of them backstage. A photo of Phil drooling over IHOP/Lucky Charms/ donuts/Dan's ass. A clip of Dan fake-raging over shitty wifi. That's literally all they'd have to do to keep most of the phandom satisfied.

I honestly don't know how you guys didn't realise that there would be a lack of content. It was exactly the same on the U.K. Tour. Thing is with the U.K, the dates were more spread out and they popped home for the radio shows so there were a few liveshows and chances to record videos. I didn't expect much of them in these 60 days, I reckon we will get like 3 joint liveshows max, they just haven't left themselves much time between dates.

Ps. We are in NYC and had ihop for breakfast, it was awesome. Soz Phil and your $3 cornflakes, sucks to be you ;)

Well, I think there's a huge difference between realising something might pose a problem and preparing for it beforehand and then going through it when it's actually happening, y'know. Preparation doesn't always mean success.
Also, have a great time in NYC!

For moving apart: Phil has said he doesn't like to be alone for long periods of time, so I'm not sure that getting a separate place would be top priority even if they're Platonic™ and he has an almost-30 crisis.

They haven't given hints that they're unhappy with their current flat, have they? They have plenty of space, bought extra shelves, and hung more things on the walls, which is not a sign that they're planning to pack up just yet. I'm not gonna set my hopes too high on that front, they can pleasantly surprise me if I'm wrong.

Regarding that, maybe they'll just buy their current flat and keep living there. I mean, they seem pretty comfortable there and don't seem like wanting to move out - you know, hanging things on the wall, getting new shelves... Maybe this phlat is their final destination. Maybe not forever, but for more years to come.

when is the last time they've mentioned their land lord, anyway? maybe they bought the apartment ages ago & have once again been hiding in plain sight.

I guess it will remain to be seen, but throughout the U.K. tour they posted four videos on Dan's channel, two videos on Phil's channel, six gaming videos (five spooky week videos + Dil's draw my life), and one (joint) liveshow. We also had five instagram posts from Dan and one from Phil.

Granted, a lot were promotional stuff, but that is still setting up a ratio of content to time that will be hard for them to match. Then again, it only has technically been a week since the tour officially started, so there's no saying we won't get some content.

Also, the obvious difference is that in one month they did eleven stops in the U.K. while in the US they are doing 40 stops over two months, but still, based on my subjective and entirely biased memory of October-Novemeber, I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed with how much content was being put out (I had just gotten into D&P and was busy with school. now i'm done and bored af).

The lighting is not the best and we are used to Dan wearing makeup and hiding his blemishes, so there's that, but Phil looks exhausted and his face is kind of puffy (?)

Was it mentioned anywhere that they were filming at any other venue thus far (be it the actual show or just the crowd)? I wonder if the tickets indicate whether people may be filmed (like with the UK tour). Mine don't say it will.

In the tatinof vid they made, did anyone recognize the venue(s) from the clip they showed us??

During the uk tour the content drought was the month before the start of the tour, during the tour there was a lot of content, it was weird and great. I have a lot of hobbies so I can survive.

They look tired but I'm not worry, they are adults they can manage themselves. or that's why I hope because they have still 7 weeks more

Is this their first sold out show since playlist? Just thinking if they are filming the crowds they'd probably want to it when the venues full because it looks better.

Yeah based on the activity of the UK tour I actually thought we'd be fine - I think I even made a post saying it may be better because they'd feel pressure to keep their normal content up and not be 'sell outs'. I guess they are doing tbh, for casual viewers. Its only 100k or so who watch their liveshows I think, and I've come to the conclusion that its the lack of liveshows which is making me stir crazy.

 EDIT: Actually no, it's not just that pic, they look exhausted in all of them. :|
Came in here to say the exact same thing. If you scroll down @updatedphan's twitter, every single pic.... They look completely exhausted. There's no light behind Phil's eyes in a single shot. Someone tuck them into a bed for a few days. JEEZ. :-|
The lighting is not the best and we are used to Dan wearing makeup and hiding his blemishes, so there's that, but Phil looks exhausted and his face is kind of puffy (?)

Oh god... Phil doesn't even look like himself! Dan looks a little tired but not too bad, seen him worse. You're right there's no light behind his eyes which is really unusual for him. I mean I guess he's that bit older, maybe struggling to sleep on the bus from his motion sickness.

I'm never usually one of the protective oMG babies protect them!! types but I do hope they're getting on ok. Given its week one of 11 it would suck if they're having a rough time already cos imagine dreading the next 10 weeks of your life :?

Things like this make me understand the lack of liveshows (and even support it tbh) because they really must have very little down time.

Rough seas man, rough seas.
I wonder how biology can explain the physical pain you feel in your chest when all you want to do is talk shit on IDB

I was wondering how you guys know of Dan wearing make up?
I've been seeing some comments about this, and I was just wondering if it's confirmed then? And how is it you know??

I don't know why but to me that's actually cute :D
