Since it's Christmas and 99% of my time has been dedicated to family, I'm only JUST now catching up on everything, including the camera discussion which I'm incredibly late to.

I skimmed over it a bit so excuse me if it's already mentioned, but the 25 minute (or in most cases, 30 minute) limit is actually a thing for all digital cameras.
[offtopic]I did a bunch of internet research on this one time, it has to do with how the camera gets labeled and advertised and taxed and stuff. If it records over 30 minutes, it has to be advertised as a video camera specifically, which for some reason or another costs the company some of the profit (I'm pretty sure it's a tariff) that gets avoided when it's simply a DSLR camera. So in order to be simply a camera, it cannot record for more than 30 minutes.
But of course DSLR cameras are super high quality and blah blah, so the small inconvenience of having to press the record button again is probably worth it to most YouTubers.

I think I'm correct on most of this, but feel free to fact check me. A quick google search about the issue brings up a bunch of articles that are a lot more articulate and informed than I am. [/offtopic]

i liked the bloopers for what they were, but i didn't think that they were strikingly different from the previous ones or that they were any less platonic or more casual than usual.

Personally I felt the opposite - they felt very sincere to me. I felt that the bloopers were pretty raw and authentic, and were mostly natural bits of conversation that didn't really fit into the main video. Like others have said, they felt like real bloopers rather than outtakes. I guess it's up to personal interpretation though, you might be right! Also belated happy holidays everyone

Colin is Dan's favorite family member :') He seems more hyped to see the dog than anything else.

Personally I felt the opposite - they felt very sincere to me. I really liked the bloopers but they did feel pretty platonic to me. I was surprised to find people excited about phan when I was just getting friendshippy vibes.

Overall opinion: Warm. Sweet. Definitely would have evoked more of a reaction before gamingmas. I'm not sure what people are seeing that reads as platonic to them, but to me these read as most other recent Dan and Phil videos do; like two people who genuinely are enjoying trying to make each other laugh. They check each other for reactions more, they're more physically affectionate/use physical gestures to tease more, the overly emphasized reactions to anything sexual are gone (unless they're actually appropriate). Those are the things that read as not platonic to me, it's not in specific things I can timestamp but in the overall general feel of it.

Which explains why my 70D (which replaced the 60D several years ago) records a max of 29:59 per clip. Interesting. (There are a lot of weird laws around the world that try to regulate speech though various schemes, but that discussion is WAY OT.) We only use DSLRs (and GoPros) for B-roll and unusual situations, so we never get near the 30 minute limit. The gaming streamers must use video cameras because their live streams can go on for more than an hour...

Okay so i wrote this as answer to a friend of mine but I think it is very fitting here too.
I have no idea somebody might have expressed these thoughts already but basically.... I had a few thoughts on why the blooper video sealed the deal for me on how they are for me basically already out.

We had a discussion a week ago or something about how gamingmas feels like it leadsup to something and who knows what the bloopers are gonna be, and while yes sometimes I do wish there'd be a dramatic coming out moment in one of them were they make a really unambiguous comment or kiss or something... after gamingmas I sort of realised I don't need it at all?

Cause I feel like it actually did lead up to something...
I'm 100% sure that if those bloopers had been posted before gamingmas a lot of us would still have been surprised by the level of comfort and fondness and openness with us... and what gamingmas achieved was that it now just felt like a nice behind the the scenes look of, for me anyway, a still very much in love couple that's just decided to hide a significant part of their relationship.

I think even if they stated "we are in a relationship" we would probably not see more pda than what we do now (and oh is it glorious) and I can't fault them for that cause anything else like holding hands or kissing would probably cross that line of what they even want to do in public.

Gamingmas was so glorious cause it slowly normalised this kind of behaviour around them and my god if that was their intention then they are geniuses cause it worked.
That's why I think the bloopers felt anticlimactic for many cause it wasn't anything we hadn't seen before.
For me though it made me just really fond just the way they looked at each other and were comfortable showing that.

I'll come back to a few specific bits a little later in another post probably but I wanna move on to another point as well:
Together yay or nay

I find it super interesting that this actually gave some people the vibe that they were friends looking for a relationship - separately.
For me, it is as I said before simply a matter of showing HOW comfortable they are around each other.
The fact that every sexual joke that is directed at the audience instead of each other (the blinking thing for example but also think of the baking vid for example) is always made in a way that it is inherently uncomfortable...and with the flirting that is directed at each other in comparison that often makes it almost "uncomfortable" cause it is so genuinely sexually charged (though let's be real we all love it)... if that's supposed to show that they have just decided to say fuck it they are gonna ship us anyway.. I think it wouldn't be so genuine? Cause the only effect any potential other party would see is that well... they already have each other and do you really wanna third wheel there?
I personally don't think any normal friendship would stand that kind of closeness + sexual energy and flirting and not come out with them at least banging each other.. and if they do then honestly there's no way either of them could keep it casual and go back to anything else.

For me that kind of flirting and sexual energy isn't born out of frustration or the fact that they realised they want to settle down with SOMEONE but rather with the exact opposite. They know they've found that with each other, they are keeping each other more than happy in the bedroom and now they just... let that spill out onto their public personas as well. Let themselves run a bit free and show that giddiness that comes from realising all they've done TOGETHER this past year and how it only made them stronger TOGETHER and that 7 years on they are still as much into each other as they were before. I think it comes from the conscious decision to let us see this part, to not hide it all away anymore, the fact that they realise that they can do this and the world won't end.

It's fascinating how different the conclusions after this video are... I had a friend send me a screaming message after it was out basically just saying "oh my god, they are out aren't they? They so are.. you were right they'd be out by the end of 2016." And to be honest I think that's as much as we are gonna get - if this is as much as we are gonna get cause with those two I'm hardly ever sure anymore - then I'll be happy with this and the knowledge that for me that's all the confirmation I need.

I don't really overthink it that much, I think gamingmas was something they had an idea on for a while and Dan just delayed the bloopers for a xmas upload which tied it all together nicely

I'll be honest, when you guys talk about sexual tension, flirting, heart eyes, I don't see it. I don't mean that I invalidate what you guys feel, but I literally, physically/mentally cannot see it. It's like you asking me to read a passage from a foreign language I don't understand. Maybe it's me having a tough time reading language of others. Maybe it's the way I was raised, or the way I act around my friends so the behaviour is more normalised. Maybe I'm just socially malfuctioning and I don't pick up on those cues. Sometimes I wonder if it's me that's broken in some way because I just don't see it while the entire fandom is screaming behind their monitor. Does that make sense? I feel like I'm missing out on a beautiful moment that everyone else is part of and enjoying. I think it's fun, I definitely think it's cute, but I get frustrated with myself after reading posts on the forum. I rewatch again and again and I slow down the video on Youtube, I have it on loop, I replay parts, and I feel blind to something seemingly obvious.

Maybe that explains my lukewarm attitude to whether they are together or not. Maybe that's why my phan goggles are almost invisible, or why I prefer to take their word because it's something I can fall back on easier than trying to analyse the behaviour of a conscious video; as in, they are aware they are filmed and are in control.

I found the bloopers fun I'm glad he reserved it for Christmas as it's something that could be uploaded and prepared while they are home, and we can enjoy it. Even if we nagged I have a feeling he wanted it for then since gamingmas was going to provide enough content for December, and it fitted.

I 100% agree here, because lets be real they will never do a proper coming out video, they are certainly not the type to start smooching on camera or do other pda. To me this is as good as it gets, boncas for me was the turning point in how they portray their real relationship to us. They are not that good actors and they are both awful at lying.

Very interesting, somelikeitpink. The thing I noticed most is how giddy and cheeky Phil is and wondering if he's really like that off-camera. He hasn't been that cute in the gamingmas videos, though his innocent wide-eyed cuteness of old might have come from the same place. Maybe pinof does something to him, it's adorable, anyway. I love how he trolls Dan to get a reaction, he looks at him to check after he pushes the plushy dog at him and after he dabbed in the dance video, and both times he gets Dan's done face (honestly, I know people have the idea of dominant-Phil when he gets a bit more serious, but his cheeky side wins my heart).

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I think gamingmas helped "normalize" their behavior and I really hope that is permanent re-branding.

I also find it interesting that some people feel the flirty behavior and others don't. It may just be a matter of us seeing what we want to see, consciously or unconsciously. I believe they are together so I see what you see, 2 people who have found each other and still find each other captivating and exciting after all these years. They are my "happily ever after/Disney princess" fantasy and will remain so until they move apart separately or are seen publicly with a significant other. Fite me (don't really, I'm a hopeless pacifist and really don't mind at all that others see the enigma that is differently than me -- peace-sign emoji plz )

I don't want to make myself sound important so forgive me if it does come out that way, but I do a lot of work in a terribly social profession and consider myself rather adept at reading non verbal cues - yet I can't read that either. So it's not just you

For example, infamous heart eyes howell - I can say 100 % that's just how certain people look when paying attention to someone speaking that they are fond of. It's just like other experessions, rarely definitive. I have resting bitch face to the EXTREME when around my friends yet luckily, they know not to suspect me of murderous thoughts

Now there are some more reality rooted things that make me question my anti phan stance. One of them was the hide the plushie incident, now explained tho. Another - just two guys being competitive thing. But tension, flirty vibes, all those things... they are so ethemeral, and seen by us so out of context. So subjective, too. I mean I showed my friend with little prior knowldge of Deppy Dance Evolution and just based on it she thought Dan and Phil seemed extremely burned out and fake.

Thank you, it didn't come off as self-important, it was actually comforting to hear. Too often I feel left out of a phan moment and I become legitimately upset at myself because I can't see what everyone else sees and I am just behind my monitor

I don't mind having fans around that believe in phan, and I get giddy at the idea of two people so much in love and so happy. I just feel like that one person who got invited to a sports event and doesn't follow sports or know the team but they just cheer on awkwardly because their friend likes it so they make an effort to seem enthusiastic too

It's always been like that. Even back in 2013-14 when I was neck deep in the phandom in the other place and we'd flooded the internet with old photos and screenshots, I still felt broken for not seeing anything. At least back then Dan's denial was "shady", even if I just took it at face value because I have nothing else to go on.

I don't see heart-eyes howell either, although I do recognise the power of a slowed down gif. Slow down a gif moment, add a highly contrasted/slightly faded filter and everything looks beautiful.

I have resting bitch/sad face too, if I had a dollar every time someone asked "are you okay?" I'd be rich as tits.

For me, everything is a big-picture type of analysis. The things I read as cute moments between people in a relationship I read that way because of the underlying background history that, imo, indicates a relationship. My opinion on if they are together or not is not based on 'heart eyes howell' or 'oh they touched!' My opinion is based on a far more extensive look at them from the time they met and the build up to who they are now.

The whole 'I showed them to a friend' thing to me proves nothing to me besides that people read chemistry differently. Only basing an opinion on how they act toward each other discounts the actual backstory, which is incredibly relevant in the 'are they or aren't they a couple' discussion.

It's more that when the context gets built on many ethemeral things or is considered supported by them I take issue.

thank you so much for this post, there were some bits in bold where I read it and I totally saw myself in what you said. I also have a hard time seeing all the moments other people talk about (& same where you say not trying to invalidate what others do think) however I don't get frustrated by my thoughts like you do. The other reason I am lukewarm to the whole are they together or not is because I just don't care. It wouldn't change the reason I enjoy watching them (the bants, their personalities, their attitudes in general). For me, deppy are a distraction from real life, they make the crappy bits of life more fun for me and if they came out/kept being ambiguous/announced they had other partners it wouldn't change anything for me.

Now to catch up on the last few videos:
Sims 4: I thought it was cute that they decorated the house and bought presents but on the whole it's not something I would watch again. Their reaction to Tabitha being abducted was hilarious but are they going to do more with Dab than just fed and cuddle it once a video!

Asgore attacks: not being a fan of the undertale series I wasn't sure if I was going to watch this but I'm glad I did as I loved it. I found it really interesting and quite intense and rewatched it twice already. I liked how into it they both seemed and they worked well together (phil giving dan encouragement to battle). It says a lot to me that they went through the whole game and tried to spare as many characters as possible. I still need to watch the 2 hour final video yet though.

pinof bloopers: loved this more than the main video. I liked how natural they were and it feels to me like Phil is coming out of his shell more and more. He is so much funnier and less kiddy than ever and I hope he continues to move away from that. During tatinof (for me personally) it felt like he was hiding in the background a lot more, whereas now he's trolling, laughing, making funny comments much more and getting himself out there a bit. Dans 'no' to Phil's 'ready to be whiskered' stood out to me a lot, and I loved Dan saying 'prick' far too much.

Gamingmas has been amazing. Having so many videos and so much content has been kind of overwhelming but I'm not complaining. It just reinforces to me that deppy are a good pair to stan, they are hard working and try hard to make their audience happy. I don't watch a lot of youtubers but they're definitely two that no one can say don't care about their audience. Going to be sad that there isn't something daily to come home to.

melon lord, i have to say there was a point where uma thurman sex jokes and heart eyes howell got to me, convinced me they were together and that. however, i have rose coloured glasses for the entire world, but those faded throughout the years, and so did my shipping of them. i do think they have fantastic chemistry, or else i wouldnt be watching lol!

For me, it is as I said before simply a matter of showing HOW comfortable they are around each other.
The fact that every sexual joke that is directed at the audience instead of each other (the blinking thing for example but also think of the baking vid for example) is always made in a way that it is inherently uncomfortable...and with the flirting that is directed at each other in comparison that often makes it almost "uncomfortable" cause it is so genuinely sexually charged (though let's be real we all love it)... if that's supposed to show that they have just decided to say fuck it they are gonna ship us anyway.. I think it wouldn't be so genuine? Cause the only effect any potential other party would see is that well... they already have each other and do you really wanna third wheel there?
I personally don't think any normal friendship would stand that kind of closeness + sexual energy and flirting and not come out with them at least banging each other.. and if they do then honestly there's no way either of them could keep it casual and go back to anything else.

For me that kind of flirting and sexual energy isn't born out of frustration or the fact that they realised they want to settle down with SOMEONE but rather with the exact opposite. They know they've found that with each other, they are keeping each other more than happy in the bedroom and now they just... let that spill out onto their public personas as well. Let themselves run a bit free and show that giddiness that comes from realising all they've done TOGETHER this past year and how it only made them stronger TOGETHER and that 7 years on they are still as much into each other as they were before. I think it comes from the conscious decision to let us see this part, to not hide it all away anymore, the fact that they realise that they can do this and the world won't end.

It's fascinating how different the conclusions after this video are... I had a friend send me a screaming message after it was out basically just saying "oh my god, they are out aren't they? They so are.. you were right they'd be out by the end of 2016." And to be honest I think that's as much as we are gonna get - if this is as much as we are gonna get cause with those two I'm hardly ever sure anymore - then I'll be happy with this and the knowledge that for me that's all the confirmation I need.

I 100% agree here, because lets be real they will never do a proper coming out video, they are certainly not the type to start smooching on camera or do other pda. To me this is as good as it gets, boncas for me was the turning point in how they portray their real relationship to us. They are not that good actors and they are both awful at lying.

Let's be honest...they probably ARE out, but they WAY they are out isn't going to satisfy everyone. There are some who still want/need the public declaration, and by saying they are straight until they publically say so is, in my mind, rather insulting.

I don't necessarily think they're 'subliminally coming out' so can't really speak to that, but what about how they presented themselves in tatinof was fake? Specifically?

(edit: like what would be fake in hindsight in the case that they were now coming out/whatever?)
