As for #storagegate, Dan did say that they had to rent a storage unit for all the crap they've saved (including gifts and letters from the Phandom,) so the immediacy of the overflowing apartment has been (temporarily?) mitigated to some degree....

you know i had never thought that #busgate could have something to do with the fact that it's a yt red thing and a movie that many more casuals are going to watch but it makes sense, i think. and i don't know, they've been so open and so... comfortable this pasts weeks that i kinda forgot about #busgate. it just doesn't seem as important. whatever reason they did it for, their latest interactions feel so lovey-dovey and close that i have a hard time getting out of the trashcan

I think we need to separate relationship labels from branding. "Best friends" has been their brand for the last 2 years. I agree that it probably won't stay that way for the next 20. Brands can change, and change is seems to be coming. I can't know what it will look like before it's here.

I was going to say "Dan has been calling Phil his best friend since 2010", but I don't actually know if that's true. If anyone has a record of the first time they used "best friend", please share. I assumed that when Dan started using "friend" as in here:

"If my friend died, I'd probably be sad"
it was a downgrade from "best friend", but I'm not 100% certain that that's the case. If he did start using "friend" around 2012 and previously their relationship was entirely labeless, that's very interesting.

Regardless of when they started using "best friends" as a label, they could continue saying "best friend" in any situation in which they absolutely have to label their relationship as something, and the rest of the time avoid labels, and continue to act as coupley as they like. In most situations, they don't have to label the relationship, because everyone who knows one of them knows the other. Phil can say "Dan and I bought a house" or "Dan and I are getting a dog", there's no need to say "I'm getting a dog with Dan, my best friend who I make youtube videos with and went on tour with all of last year, you know the guy?".

Calling each other "best friends" isn't a lie. They are. It suggests that they're non-romantic, which was useful when they were, as fancybum put it, "relying on heteronormativity to fill in the blanks in their own words", but it doesn't rule out a relationship in a way that will significantly hinder them going foreward. There are plenty very lucky people who do marry their best friends. Dan and Phil want people to, eventually, know the truth. Them being each being the other's best friend is part of that truth. Probably, to them, a very important part.

Phil's live show was really enjoyable- he made me laugh several times.

Okay so, this liveshow was extremely boring, but I'm glad I stuck with it because Phil has confirmed that the wedding he's going to will have a lot of his extended family that he doesn't know very well (he talked about how awkward it'd be for a while), and he also said that Dan is not coming with him.

He also didn't address YOI's romantic plot because he didn't want to spoil it...

He also explained the youtube bell thing, which was confusing to me so if anyone else is confused: you don't get youtube notifs anymore unless you click the bell, even if you had them on before apparently.

Okay since I'm an over-analytical shit I am loving this discussion lol. I don't quite agree that youtube red will be viewed by casual viewers though? If anything I think it would be even more limited to people who already have youtube red or people who got it just for them. If I didn't like Dan and Phil i don't think I'd watch an hour long documentary about them you know? I feel like it was VERY much limited to their audience because people who aren't invested in them wouldn't care to watch them on tour. I'd love for someone to dispute this though because I might not be aware of how people watch youtube red since I don't have it!

hmmm you do have a point, that's right! i don't know how many people would be interested in a behind-the-scenes documentary. but that's the thing i don't quit know either how yt red works... and maybe, they thought that the casuals who would watch tatinof (which it's something more "approachable") would be interested in a documentary? i mean, i know i am. when i watch movies and stuff i always watch the bts too but idk. so, since tatinof was sooo advertised (billboards and everything) maybe they wanted to play safe (????)
