Dan definitely tweeted that he went to the Bahamas to mess with fans. It was basically click bait in tweet form.
If he was just letting us know because he thought it was interesting/funny (or because he thought he was due an obligatory update tweet) he would have explained why he was there in one of his replies after rather than leaving it open for fan speculation.

I'll weigh in on #BahamasGate. I like the theory of changing visa classifications, although I'm not convinced it was necessary. P-1 visas are issued for a specific performance or tour, so maybe... Phil must have fibbed and entered using the visa wavier program (and not mentioned that in addition to being on his fam's annual pilgrimage to FL, there was this little event he did.....) Anyway, Daniel seems to have a goal to visit former colonies of the British Empire: India, Australia, Sri Lanka (?), Hong Kong, Singapore, the US... and now the Bahamas (am I missing any?) Perhaps we can predict his future foreign travels...

Or, maybe he was simply going on a daytrip - it's not uncommon from the Orlando and Miami areas.

Yeah, I guess I'm not too sad to admit to myself that he is just that much of a cheeky git I thought that of Phil three times during the show they presented so I guess it's good for them to be equally cheeky even if it's in different ways.

Is this a stated goal of his? Or it is just a coincidence because we colonised so many places haha. (not trying to be snarky honestly it would be interesting if he had specifically said he was trying to go to former colonies).

Mm the colony debate makes me uncomfortable if that is his reason.... I am Indian (born in America tho) and I like a lot of British things, don't get me wrong; I absolutely LOVE Harry Potter and MUSE. HP shaped me; it's my life. But if he is going to all the places Britain colonized I would want a reason- like if the reason were that he simply wants to see the places, that's fine- as long as it's not some bigoted reason (not that Dans bigoted but idk) also I want to emphasize that what the British did to India and other places they colonized was NOT okay. Read "The Secret Garden"; we are called "dirty Indians"when we were being colonized (not me of course; that was a looonng time ago) and we were essentially slaves to the British. My parents always tell me to be grateful to Gandhi because without him I would be in a not so good position. I have no enimity or hatred of any nationality or country; I am not a nationalist. Britain is great; I just don't know how I wouldn't feel if Dan was specifically visiting the places Britain colonized; and if he was- I'd want a reason.

dan went to paris with his girlfriend. deppy also went to cyprus and greece (iiirc) with wirrow and bryony. india and sri lanka trips were both with dan's family, so i doubt he chose where to go. deppy went to ireland, sweden and germany for tatinof.

but ... they went to the us, canada, singapore, hong kong and australia either for work (tatinof) or as part of the trip (even though they did see the sights). they're the places where they could get shows and have a big audience. why would that have anything to do with colonisation?

that leaves japan and the bahamas ... japan was a holiday and who knows what about the bahamas. i don't think two examples are enough to make that kind of guess.

and, yanno, britain colonised most of the world, so i don't think there's any significance in those former colonies being the countries he's travelled to. dan has money, will travel.

that's what I found a bit weird actually, why did he post it at the same time as Phil's video? Dan must have known what kind of reaction his tweet would provoke and that it would divert the attention (I don't have any kind of explanation to offer, I just found that really strange at the time)

i haven't watched old videos in forever so i don't think i remember what their beds usually looked like, but that is definitely the same duvet. there are a few options i suppose;

are we sure it was solely dan's duvet, or an extra primarily used by dan? i know my family has a few extra thick blankets and duvets (usually previously owned by a single person and upgraded to this status when it was replaced) that we use when it's cold. it does look to be the only thing on phils bed though, so moving on.

the theory i lean towards is that they were sharing a bed, and were too lazy to wash a blanket. that one was probably clean so they just shrugged and used it, and forgot before filming. or maybe dan wandered in phils room wrapped in it, whining about being cold or lonely or not being able to sleep. phil was sleepy but just opened his arms and let the tired boy snuggle into them. (i'm trash??)

I should go back and look at other vids around this time period. This is from a deleted or unlisted Dan vid. It was a contest so that could be why it was deleted or a convenient reason to delete bc of blanketgate. I like your little Phan fic! I don't actually read much bc I take them too much to heart.

Also re: Dan's blanket on Phil's bed - I'm pretty sure I've seen discussions on it before, but I can't remember what the consensus was. It could be that Phil was just using the same black bedsheets as Dan at the time, but it could equally (and in my biased opinion) be Dan's duvet on Phil's bed. Whether that's because they interchangeably switched bedsheets, had multiple copies of the same sheets, or because they were sharing bedsheets is up to individual interpretation I guess (I feel like it's probably the latter but I understand why people would disagree haha)

Boy that bed is a mess. I find it unlikely that Phil messed up all four of those pillows by himself. But who knows, perhaps he is a very violent sleeper and that's why he is likely to end up on the floor of his new tiny room with its full size bed. Of course Phil didn't have his room tidy because he wasn't planning on filming, as this was a prank video set up by Dan while he was in the shower, but I like how Dan's is neatly made with decorative pillows.

Sharing bedding, sharing clothes, sharing twinkies... what weren't they sharing back then?

Perhaps unrelated, but I find it interesting that in many of Phil's videos from this time (or maybe more at his first flat) he has his duvet out in the lounge and uses it as a backdrop for videos on the couch. Strong branding.

Slightly related to the times. Yesterday I came across a clip from an early Dan live show filmed at Phil's apartment where Dan was asked about spending so much time with Phil and he dismissed it by saying it was just convenient since Phil was another YouTuber (I hate this excuse), that we only see them together in videos about every three weeks and that he has other friends, all while he was wearing a handmade "I'm a Philion" t-shirt. Ironic, but still painful. This was before 2012.

Thank goodness it's 2017 and Dan is on vacation with the Lesters.

Annnd related to that. I don't like to burst people's bubbles, but in Phil's first tweet about watching Eurovision he says he is "forcing" his family to watch it. Dan requires no forcing as he was enthusiastically tweeting about it all afternoon and traditionally watches it with Phil and their friends. Thus Dan is not necessarily included in the "my family" statement. But of course they are family regardless. Don't hurt me.

I think I watched a video that had a picture pointing out other things in the room like Dan's hair straightener and other stuff. I'll try to find it, but if that's true, they surely shared the bed.

Oh, now I see it only says it's private in Dan's All My Videos playlist, but it appears in his videos. Weird.

I think they just weren't, at that point in their careers, aware of the impact of something going on camera and how that would be scrutinized later on. There are other various "bedroom slips" over the years - Phil having a charger plugged in on each side of the bed, the various times that there would be jumpcuts in filming with both sides of the beds rumpled in different ways when we knew Dan was there. I think with every time something slipped through the cracks and got brought to their attention, they learned.

(And before anyone jumps in to play devil's advocate: most of those incidents can be hand waved as a one off, but it's just like everything else with Dan and Phil: a one-off incident isn't what makes people sure they're together, it's the combination of many, many slips/leaks like that, combined with the general big picture of them over the years - their past and their current present.)

The private video that shows up before the exam one is just the video they made to tell people how to get involved in TATINOF (by making crafts and coming up with ISG questions, etc). Sadly no fun mystery there!

OT but Dan hasn't tweeted since Saturday...I wonder what he's up to.

I hope we get a liveshow on Tuesday.
