I have no issues with people having shared it, it was more the snarky description that was annoying (and sending a tonne of potential lurkers our way) and also putting it publicly on youtube is a pretty surefire way of Phil eventually seeing it anyway description altered so it's all good
grannypants is totally right though most UK students would be able to find it pretty quickly after I mentioned the website

using 'tumblr mentality' as a catch-all is lazy and divisive. i thought the point was to try and get away from (perceived) GG elitism? taking the twitter/tumblr/gg/yt comments phandom divisions out of talking about a fandom behaviour is probably a good place to start.

I think at this point there's no real way to make the fandom at large understand that there were valid reasons for the file being found and not immediately made public, but the plus side is that people almost never actually remember where something originated so the chances of anyone who posted it actually getting in trouble are slim. Hopefully this won't make us not seem welcoming to anyone lurking around. Forums just foster more of a sense of closed-off community than some other forms of social media, so I think people getting worked up when they feel like something is threatening or betraying that sense of community brings forth a more intense reaction.

Either way, imo it's good that everyone can see it now, because fetus Phil is a delight that should be indulged in phandom-wide. (And even better since whoever posted it on youtube decided to amend their snarky comment.)

yeah, thanks a lot. And, anyway, there isn't much of a problem here, because the public DD was made for the public, and they don't mind the risk of it getting deleted. It has all the videos that the original has, too.

And, since the google drive of TWL is under a joke account, it's not a problem if it is deleted under a copyright strike. There is nothing to worry about here.

People don't keep information secret because they like the secrecy, they do it because all the information is under constant threat of deletion, and they'd like to keep it up for as long as possible.

That was quick. I checked the link barely a few minutes ago and the original description was still there. Don't really understand why it was written in the first place. Anyone following the forum knew who to ask for the link and knew it was going to be posted to the public doc soon anyway. It's just a matter of copyright concerns and respecting the people who originally found the video and wanted to distribute it with caution. It's a rare discovery, but it's not exactly being guarded like a mystical Shangri-La...

There's plenty of people on here who I'm sure have tumblr accounts and still make wonderful, concise, informative posts about any number of topics on here as well as back on GG-even when GG was (and still is) advertised as a kind of trash talk free for all. No website is really indicative of anyone's mentality even if a majority of users there might seem to say otherwise. If someone makes a comment here with less substance, either irrationally aggressive or ridiculous, I'm sure the conversation will continue to move on anyway and keep the theme of discussion consistent to how it normally is. I'm not sure an 'influx' of posters from any other websites would change anything on its own.
(even if I understand when someone posts something incendiary like the original description on that video it's natural to get a little defensive and protective of what's been managed to be created here.)

I'm sad that someone shared the link but it's a big place of lurkers so it wasn't going to be kept secret forever. Am I the only one that is not bothered with D&P reading here. Th recent topics have been sensitive but I would love for them to see the reactions for their videos or the general advice we have to improve their channel. They always seem aware of opinions but never the older side of the phandom so it might prove to be a interesting read. Plus I would love to see Dan's reaction to us taking his ironic psychoanalyze statement to heart.

On TWL I loved sassy Phil. He was so quiet and subdued but spoke clearly and confidently and held his own against Anne. I felt like a proud mum (even though I'm 21).

Video time. I think the video is really a substantial part of the phandom and everything we stand for. Look at it's influence on fanfics, fanart and perceptions of D&P in general. I was like alot of you when I first saw it, guilty and sad that Phil's vulnerability got exposed in such an unconventional way. But I watched it again and really saw the love and fondness that video brought. I hope that Dan appreciated his video and that the leak and him protecting it so aggressively didn't ruin the sentimental value the video represented (though I wager it it did.

The video showed how they fell in love hard and fast. This was a couple months after meeting that the video was made. For Dan he loved Phil because Phil was his emotional anchor. Someone who he can have as a best friend first and lover second. Someone who he can share his vulnerablity with without fearing judgement. Therefore he was always the mot active in displaying affection. He kissed Phil first so we know he had no trouble expressing his emtions. He's the ame today but I digress. With Phil I feel like he was the one in the relationship that was less expressive in person. Yes he decided to get serious with Dan but I'm sure he was more wary of being overt. (Many reasons could attain to this age gap, Dan being a fan, etc.) the video probably was Phil's way of saying that he does return Dan's affection. He does love every part of him and even though it might be hard to express he feels it. And his doing it in video with sketched made it sweeter. Dan idolized him for his videos first and himself second so expressing his love through this medium was romantic.

I could imagine how happy Dan felt that the person he idolized was now idolizing him. That boy is serious life goals

We can even relate this dynamic to today. Dan expresses his fond very openly with Phil. He has his heart eyes and his Phil trash #1, and always getting a chance to put in Phil being his first best friend. Phil does is differently. He does it through filming Dan playing the piano or watching Dil videos when Dan is away, or his array of lessamazingphil videos. It's subtle but with a little more thinking very prominent in everything he does. Phil may not be as vocal about his affections with Dan (he may have never been in person) but I think he makes sure Dan knows fond he is towards him. I swear everything I write sounds like a phanfiction..sorry

Also, the only reason it's not immediately uploaded on the cherrypirates dd is because felucca's on vacation (which she deserve), and she already said she would upload it come monday. So i hope people would realize that we aren't really just keeping it here forever.

and yeah, it's definitely understandable instinct. i'd just hate to see IDB get the same rep in the phandom that GG did, back when other fans would shit all over a group of us on phantaray, lav's blog and places (and then that shitting would continue on GG in return because we got our feelings hurt, urgh, just a big ole shit fest). this place is going so great, it's like lurking whilst a woman gives birth or something.

fun story, illegal (the gg mod) once called out a pic spamming convo about dep's armpit hair (or was it hand size pictures?) as fangirlish and tumblresque, and some 2013 poster grumbled about us invading their thread. everything is so cyclical on the internet, it's strangely satisfying

about the weakest link, did anyone lol when Phil said that the kind of videos he posted on the internet were "dramas". I mean I get it, it's hard to describe but thinking back on it, the Florida vlogs, filming his friends and video blog updates don't really qualify as drama.

overall he did pretty good in the beginning but after that was kinda bad. I agree he was kinda sassy to the host but he was also very tensed and stressed imo. He seems to be the kind of lethargic stressed.
