It's a double edged sword for me because while I'm admittedly trash who wants to know every detail of D&Ps lives nothing puts me off a person quicker then them being an oversharer so I wouldn't be into them if they were the kind of people who offered up all these details I so desperately want to know on a platter.bedhead91 wrote:Do you guys think that if were a bit more open about their private lives then people (like us) would be less nosy, or do you think it wouldn't matter either way? People certainly don't seem to care about oversharers like Luke and Emma, for instance, but that might just be because of their personalities.
It's like I love a DITL video as much as the next trashcan but daily vloggers make me soooo uncomfortable, I just can't imagine why someone would want to share that much of their lives and find the fact they do so really off-putting.
That being said I do think it would depend on how much D&P share, they could definitely share more then they do now and still keep fans just as interested.
For example say they came out as a couple (this is a completely random example I just made up in my head of course ) I don't think them just admitting they were together would be enough sharing to make everyone lose interest. There would still be a million things for us to debate and loads we wouldn't know.
However if they said they were a couple and then started weekly Q&As where they told the fans all they wanted to know about their relationship and covered their social media with couple pictures etc then yeah I do think people would eventually lose interest. (Of course pigs falling from the sky is more likely to happen then this).

I think what TomSka said is true: the more you share, the less people care. And that cuts both ways. If they did share their romantic life (apart or together), there might be less insanity with shipping, torrid phan fic etc. (speaking of phan fic - a special thank you to bedhead91 for your important contribution to literature ).phamnotof wrote:I remember this quote of TomSka's from a panel that Dan was also on. But let's face it a "thirsty" phan base seems to make for a very committed (stalker-like) phan base - just look at us ! They are beautiful, mysterious creatures we want to catch a glimpse of. The less they share, the more investigations we start. #noshame!
And I'm not saying they are being manipulative in any way. They are notoriously introverted, private people - and in their case, it just happens to work in their financial favor.
cora808's - I hear what you're saying, but my theory is that they have spent some time with the crew -- granted probably not as much as people who are more social, like bands, might. I'd also bet money everyone signed their life away in the form of a privacy agreement.
Am I the only one who feels like a complete addict sometimes???

It's a fine line. You can't share too much or too little. There are many well respected actors who you NEVER EVER see in tabloids and don't even realize you know very little about because they're notoriously private. People like Kevin Spacey, Tim Robbins, Daniel Day Lewis, Wes Bentley, Joseph Gordon Levitt, etc.
But you have to make sure that if you're sharing nothing of yourself, that you stay relevant by staying working. Otherwise people forget about you and you fade into obscurity. The same reason why people say over and over that if you're a Youtuber and your video numbers drop, your interest and popularity drops. It's very tricky.

I mean, I'm hooked now, they've got me, but I do have to admit that learning that there was a Mystery™ drew me in & had me finding out more about them, which was an innate part of the process in which I fell in love with them. I'm at a point of being in-too-deep where they could do 24/7 livestreams of their daily couch-potatoing & I'd be there, no sleep, toothpicks holding my eyes open, soaking it in. But this all obviously applies to fandom way more than to casual fans, as a casual fan of many YTers, I will say that if they go quiet, I tend to forget about their existence. So it depends what relationship we're examining.SquishPhan wrote:While I do think that they could share a bit more, I don't think I would be this interested and invested in them if they shared as much as some other youtubers do.phamnotof wrote:I remember this quote of TomSka's from a panel that Dan was also on. So that Tomska quote applies to me.
(Also, there's a LOOOT of space for D&P to fill to go from closed books to overshareres, so even if the do open up a bit more, they're hardly gonna become another Zalfie. But I will say, when you create that kind of demand, it'd probs take YEARS for people to get fed up with it as once you've experienced that kind of contact hunger, even if it stops for a while, you're always expecting it to come back & therefore are way more likely to be trying to soak it in while you can.) (Speaking just from my perspective of course, this varies a lot. But as someone who always somehow seems to pic the least social and least likely to share out of a bunch - must be a weird masochism fetish or something - that's been my experience.)

Kevin Spacey is a good example of someone who is extremely high-profile, but keeps his private life extremely low-profile and has been doing so for years. There are endless rumors and speculation (a bit like ) about him being gay, but he somehow manages to keep his romantic entanglements out of the press. Like Dan, he's also outright denied being gay and has given a few Tom Hardy-esque replies about his sexuality (''right to privacy,'' blah blah blah. I mean, come on guys. You're all as transparent as glass windows. No straight man would ever make such a big deal out of answering the question ''Are you gay?'') This is where the similarities end because Kevin Spacey is apparently a massive bastard irl who preys on younger dudes. This has nothing to do with what were talking about, sorry.cora808 wrote:pearshaped34 wrote:It's a double edged sword for me because while I'm admittedly trash who wants to know every detail of D&Ps lives nothing puts me off a person quicker then them being an oversharer so I wouldn't be into them if they were the kind of people who offered up all these details I so desperately want to know on a platter.bedhead91 wrote:Do you guys think that if were a bit more open about their private lives then people (like us) would be less nosy, or do you think it wouldn't matter either way? On a different note, what ever happened to that other video that Louise filmed with Phil?? Don't think we've forgotten, Louise. I haven't.

Yeah it seems like she has only been hanging out with other gleamers, so no Dan and Phil unfortunately.sweetmm wrote:[offtopic]Very disappointed in Louise, she had been uploading her Playlist videos, nothing with [/offtopic]
I was hoping she vlog the time they all had lunch as she was sitting next to Dan, made me wonder if there hhad been request from not to vlog or Louise does not want the phandom to crowd her video comments making her video exclusively about phan.SquishPhan wrote:Yeah it seems like she has only been hanging out with other gleamers, so no Dan and Phil unfortunately.sweetmm wrote:[offtopic]Very disappointed in Louise, she had been uploading her Playlist videos, nothing with [/offtopic]

I thought that was in New York at the creators summit thing, and not at playlist. So we might still get some Dan and Phil in a Louise vlog.sweetmm wrote:I was hoping she vlog the time they all had lunch as she was sitting next to Dan, made me wonder if there hhad been request from not to vlog or Louise does not want the phandom to crowd her video comments making her video exclusively about phan.SquishPhan wrote:Yeah it seems like she has only been hanging out with other gleamers, so no Dan and Phil unfortunately.sweetmm wrote:[offtopic]Very disappointed in Louise, she had been uploading her Playlist videos, nothing with [/offtopic]
Just a random comment that semi pertains to the current discussion of information sharing:
I am currently just letting YouTube auto play in the background while I do crap around the house and “I am God sonic.exe” is on now. It started with Dan saying he didn't want to share his download folder with us, and blurred it out. He doesn't have to say anything about his download folder at all. But now he said it- Before which I didn't even think about his freaking downloads folder, but now I am thinking about it. WHAT IS IN THE GODDAMN FOLDER?! Seriously, there is something to be said for his ability to divulge just enough information to interest people, but then not give them enough info for them to actually know anything.

Probably porn those "totally legally acquired" TV show episodes mentioned in the DITL...Winston wrote:Just a random comment that semi pertains to the current discussion of information sharing:

This is from one of the merch peeps:
I guess D+P don't hang with the merch crew at all. It's possible they casually hang out with the stage crew when time permits but so far for most of their public sightings it seems like it's only been with Drake and/or that manager lady? Otherwise I think it's just the two of them. I could be wrong though.
I know Martyn and Cornelia saw the baseball game with D+P but otherwise who knows what goes on.
Also, wasn't one of the merch peeps was spotted at Tim Hortons (Canadian coffee chain) getting stuff for D+P and other crew members?

I rolled by at about 1130P this evening after our show, and noticed that the star (D&P) bus had left; the merch bus/trailer combo was "lights on" (getting ready to depart,) and the crew bus was still parked. Makes sense because one of the two set/equipment tractor-trailers was backed into the venue's dock, presumably loading up. Anyway, a short trip south to DC.

Tbh I think (when we haven't got the tour) Dan and Phil share enough. Having a LS everyweek really helps, and it feels like we know them. More Dan's LS than Phils. They could tweet more with stories and upload on their side channels more but I would not want them to Dailyvlog.
I like the mystery of D&P and that we don't know what they are doing all the time. They have to share enough because we always find stuff to talk about on her.
We are on part 11 and that is only since the end of March!
Ugh me too. At least we will see them more in the New York vlogs, getting really sick of seeing Malfie instead ofsweetmm wrote:[offtopic]Very disappointed in Louise, she had been uploading her Playlist videos, nothing with [/offtopic]

Okay this is driving me crazy!!! http://trophywifedan.tumblr.com/post/11 ... an-putting Did Dan release a secret eyeliner tutorial? Is that why his eyes always look extra beautiful The eyebrows and eyes color and eye shape is all Dan but there is no source and now I'm trying to find where it's from!
