For those interested in our watch parties, we are planning to host another IDB-based watch party this weekend! All info will be posted in the subforum. Then next weekend (20-21 Oct), we want to expand and involve the rest of the phandom, and for that we need your input

on the topic of the LS: i like to keep an eye out for moments where dan (or phil) fake comments just to bring up a topic/question. (#tbt to prolific george) they tend to either look down at their notes to ask a pre-planned question or otherwise off to the side in thought before basically pretending to catch a comment from a rando. dan's especially bad at this and tends to "um" a lot beforehand.

my point to this is that i noticed that particular body language when dan read out the comment about how he painted the nails on his other hand @ around 33:45. he does that "um", even stumbles on his words, and it all just doesn't seem like someone actually said that in chat. and if my assumption is correct, i want to know why? did he want to casually put it in our minds that phil painted his nails? what was the purpose for that ask and that ~moment~ in general?

i just have a lot of questions.

thank y'all for the timestamps they are very good and i appreciate them so much. it makes me really happy to see that everyone enjoyed the ls, i still haven't watched it yet (i say for like the third time today) but i luv seeing everyone happy and it makes me smile.

Colin is clearly the heart of Dan's family. I relate to what he said about asking his family about their hobbies because they all seem to be focused on 'keeping the dog alive' because I feel like that's a very awkward-people-who-happen-to-be-family-and-want-to-have-a-pleasant-conversation-but-perhaps-not-a-deep-one thing. Finding something to relate to each other on may be a struggle, especially if you've all got shitty social skills, but "how is the cat doing?" is always a successful conversation starter in my family. Also, if you're feeling overwhelmed with People you can just go chat with the family pet and it still kind of counts as family time.

Dad mention -- Dan is definitely easing us into the idea that he does in fact have a family (outside Phil, of course.) I find that interesting as a fan but I'm also just happy if Dan feels more comfortable talking about broader aspects of his life.

His attitude towards dinof and keeping a video schedule is something we've talked about, but something I don't think Dan has really talked about explicitly before. In the past, I think fan excitement has made Dan feel pressured, and he's enabled that by agreeing that he "should" make more videos faster or by promising to make a video every x days/weeks/months. I think taking a clear stance that the content will come when he's finished it will decrease that pressure, both from himself and from the fanbase.

I was reassured that he had not been replaced by a Dan-shaped alien lacking in neuroticism when he talked about whether the font on the charity shirt would make it look like he was copying the Harry Styles shirt, which also has words and font on it.

I quite liked the solo liveshow. I like the joint ones more, I think, but they're quite different so it's very hard to compare them, and I feel the joint liveshows and the solo liveshows just bring us different things. I wish we could have both. Or the style they did when they first started out, where they'd do a solo show and the last ~15 minutes was joint, though they have a clearer distinction these days between 'working' and 'not working' time and activities that prohibits that sort of thing.

Slightly concerned that spooky week made Dan think of the gaming video(s) they just filmed. Does that suggest there won't be gaming videos until spooky week, I wonder?

i didn't know dan has that type of body language and i didn't know he showed that body language before the nail question but when it came up i thought i wouldn't be surprised if there was no question to begin with.

i think he was proud of himself, 1) because he did it after months of saying he would so i guess the procrastinator in him is proud
2) he is proud of just painting his nails! it may be about breaking gender roles, being more 'feminine' (what's considered as feminine anyway) or just simply doing whatever he wants. the point is that i think he is proud of himself for painting his nails and i guess he wanted to show us because we are kinda his world in a way, we validate him and he needs validation. he knew we would be super happy about it, he wanted to feel validated. or it's just a cute 'hey look what i did' because our opinion matters to him
anyway he was cute it's like a cute child being super proud of something.

Yeah, it was this quote that I thought was mysterious. I'm sure, like many have said, that it's nothing and his just teasing. But in the moment I remember thinking "Are they doing something special?"
What I know is that previous years he has just said something like "that's a thing that happens" not the "I guess we’ll have to see...what happens" part.

Nail talk makes me wonder if he was inspired to paint them by PJ who’s been doing that for, I don’t know long, at least since August cos they were blue at Summer in the City and maybe black the other day.

I really really liked that live show. I've missed his solo ls so much, they always puts me in a good mood. I understand that others might get anxious but I never pick up on that. I don't know, it might just be his voice rambling on about random stuff that calms me down.

Loved the idea about the charity merch. I've never heard him talk in that much detail about that quote, I've wondered if he's proud of it or if it makes him cringe, but it did seem like he was proud of it (which is good, I've had it as my phone wallpaper for like two years). I'm probably not going to buy it since my wardrobe is already packed with quote t-shirts (and merch, and merch with quotes) but it's a great idea.

They way he talked about being a "male entertainer" (lol) and his aesthetic goals made me think if he ever wants to do more TV. Supergamers was great, but I can totally see him producing and hosting something of his own where he would have bigger and better opportunities to showcase his vision. Maybe a series of documentaries, or an interview show or even something like ISG (but with actual experts). I just feel like he could do something bigger and better in traditional media. That would also have it's challenges (they talked a little about this in the chat with Sue Perkins I believe) but I just think he could thrive in that field.

Anyway, the ls was lovely, looking forward to a Phil ls tomorrow and more news on the movie next week (my bet is on friday the 19th of course).

I wondered that as well. PJ did a little Q&A in his Instastories a few days ago and one of the questions was ‘why are your nails painted?’ He said it’s very therapeutic and he likes the way it looks, then turned the question around with a ‘why do you paint your nails huh?’ They were silver:
Personally I’m with Peej in his don’t care attitude, maybe because my husband paints his nails all the time. I was never big on it myself, but having all these colors in our house, it’s just tempting. The only one that belongs to me is copper and that’s what I’m rocking this month. But I understand it can carry more emotional weight for some.

Dan saying he wanted more aesthetic videos made me think of two things: forever home and Lemonade Money. I wonder if they’ll ever persue working with them or if they explored it as an option and decided it wasn’t for them. If it weren’tfor the homemade comment I’d say that making videos outside their living space might be a good option for them in the future. Not like vloggy vids, gaming or baking, but say themed series like The Seven Deadly Sins (no I’m probably never going to let that go).

There was something else I found interesting last night from the ls but I can’t recall it right now. Oh! Him being afraid of being sincere and that he feels vulnerable. Yeah, that armor he’s built around himself... I’m glad he opened up about that a bit.

they've been awfully quiet today, i hope they both had a good self-care day (it's that something they want/need)

Finally got to watch the liveshow (thanks hurricane for shutting down the city) and I can’t even verbalize how lovely it was but thankful sums it up pretty perfectly. The love he has to give the world is so beautiful

What a fantastic tribute to the day. I love what he's doing with this, I love the dedication to the Young Minds charity, I love his pride over that video and I love how he's approaching this with full sincerity.

I love Dan so much and I'm genuinely proud of him. I'm so happy he finds joy and purpose in what he does with YoungMinds and mental health awareness in general. He's such an amazing human, I hope he feels all the love and support, because he truly deserves it.
