It's a double edged sword for me because while I'm admittedly trash who wants to know every detail of D&Ps lives nothing puts me off a person quicker then them being an oversharer so I wouldn't be into them if they were the kind of people who offered up all these details I so desperately want to know on a platter.bedhead91 wrote:Do you guys think that if were a bit more open about their private lives then people (like us) would be less nosy, or do you think it wouldn't matter either way? I think what TomSka said is true: the more you share, the less people care. And that cuts both ways. If they did share their romantic life (apart or together), there might be less insanity with shipping, torrid phan fic etc. (speaking of phan fic - a special thank you to bedhead91 for your important contribution to literature ).phamnotof wrote:I remember this quote of TomSka's from a panel that Dan was also on. That's exactly how I see it as well.pearshaped34 wrote:It's a double edged sword for me because while I'm admittedly trash who wants to know every detail of D&Ps lives nothing puts me off a person quicker then them being an oversharer so I wouldn't be into them if they were the kind of people who offered up all these details I so desperately want to know on a platter.bedhead91 wrote:Do you guys think that if were a bit more open about their private lives then people (like us) would be less nosy, or do you think it wouldn't matter either way? It's like I love a DITL video as much as the next trashcan but daily vloggers make me soooo uncomfortable, I just can't imagine why someone would want to share that much of their lives and find the fact they do so really off-putting.
That being said I do think it would depend on how much D&P share, they could definitely share more then they do now and still keep fans just as interested.
For example say they came out as a couple (this is a completely random example I just made up in my head of course ) I don't think them just admitting they were together would be enough sharing to make everyone lose interest. There would still be a million things for us to debate and loads we wouldn't know.
However if they said they were a couple and then started weekly Q&As where they told the fans all they wanted to know about their relationship and covered their social media with couple pictures etc then yeah I do think people would eventually lose interest. (Of course pigs falling from the sky is more likely to happen then this).

I mean, I'm hooked now, they've got me, but I do have to admit that learning that there was a Mystery™ drew me in & had me finding out more about them, which was an innate part of the process in which I fell in love with them. I'm at a point of being in-too-deep where they could do 24/7 livestreams of their daily couch-potatoing & I'd be there, no sleep, toothpicks holding my eyes open, soaking it in. But this all obviously applies to fandom way more than to casual fans, as a casual fan of many YTers, I will say that if they go quiet, I tend to forget about their existence. So it depends what relationship we're examining.SquishPhan wrote:While I do think that they could share a bit more, I don't think I would be this interested and invested in them if they shared as much as some other youtubers do.phamnotof wrote:I remember this quote of TomSka's from a panel that Dan was also on. So that Tomska quote applies to me.
Kevin Spacey is a good example of someone who is extremely high-profile, but keeps his private life extremely low-profile and has been doing so for years. There are endless rumors and speculation (a bit like ) about him being gay, but he somehow manages to keep his romantic entanglements out of the press. Like Dan, he's also outright denied being gay and has given a few Tom Hardy-esque replies about his sexuality (''right to privacy,'' blah blah blah. I mean, come on guys. You're all as transparent as glass windows. No straight man would ever make such a big deal out of answering the question ''Are you gay?'') This is where the similarities end because Kevin Spacey is apparently a massive bastard irl who preys on younger dudes. This has nothing to do with what were talking about, sorry.cora808 wrote:pearshaped34 wrote:It's a double edged sword for me because while I'm admittedly trash who wants to know every detail of D&Ps lives nothing puts me off a person quicker then them being an oversharer so I wouldn't be into them if they were the kind of people who offered up all these details I so desperately want to know on a platter.bedhead91 wrote:Do you guys think that if were a bit more open about their private lives then people (like us) would be less nosy, or do you think it wouldn't matter either way? It's a fine line. You can't share too much or too little. There are many well respected actors who you NEVER EVER see in tabloids and don't even realize you know very little about because they're notoriously private. People like Kevin Spacey, Tim Robbins, Daniel Day Lewis, Wes Bentley, Joseph Gordon Levitt, etc.
But you have to make sure that if you're sharing nothing of yourself, that you stay relevant by staying working. Otherwise people forget about you and you fade into obscurity. The same reason why people say over and over that if you're a Youtuber and your video numbers drop, your interest and popularity drops. It's very tricky.
Yeah it seems like she has only been hanging out with other gleamers, so no Dan and Phil unfortunately.sweetmm wrote:[offtopic]Very disappointed in Louise, she had been uploading her Playlist videos, nothing with [/offtopic]
I was hoping she vlog the time they all had lunch as she was sitting next to Dan, made me wonder if there hhad been request from not to vlog or Louise does not want the phandom to crowd her video comments making her video exclusively about phan.SquishPhan wrote:Yeah it seems like she has only been hanging out with other gleamers, so no Dan and Phil unfortunately.sweetmm wrote:[offtopic]Very disappointed in Louise, she had been uploading her Playlist videos, nothing with [/offtopic]
I thought that was in New York at the creators summit thing, and not at playlist. So we might still get some Dan and Phil in a Louise vlog.sweetmm wrote:I was hoping she vlog the time they all had lunch as she was sitting next to Dan, made me wonder if there hhad been request from not to vlog or Louise does not want the phandom to crowd her video comments making her video exclusively about phan.SquishPhan wrote:Yeah it seems like she has only been hanging out with other gleamers, so no Dan and Phil unfortunately.sweetmm wrote:[offtopic]Very disappointed in Louise, she had been uploading her Playlist videos, nothing with [/offtopic]

I am currently just letting YouTube auto play in the background while I do crap around the house and “I am God sonic.exe” is on now. It started with Dan saying he didn't want to share his download folder with us, and blurred it out. He doesn't have to say anything about his download folder at all. But now he said it- Before which I didn't even think about his freaking downloads folder, but now I am thinking about it. WHAT IS IN THE GODDAMN FOLDER?! Seriously, there is something to be said for his ability to divulge just enough information to interest people, but then not give them enough info for them to actually know anything.
Probably porn those "totally legally acquired" TV show episodes mentioned in the DITL...Winston wrote:Just a random comment that semi pertains to the current discussion of information sharing:
