and therefore they really come across as hiding something sleeping in one bed to me.. I mean, I already thought that but I just find it pretty 'suspicious' that they would add these tags. If they were really just bro's, they could be casual about the sleeping situation. Thoughts?

just clarifying that it wasn't me i do think they shipbait, but in a very exaggerated jokey way that i don't think it's fair to accuse them of actually gaslighting people into thinking they are in fact in a relationship, because they draw the line at realistic shipbaiting. so it's kind of like "we are not being serious so it's you're own fault you think we're fucking". on the other hand, what we can accuse them of is being nasty liars who can't keep up with their own fabricated stories, which just makes everything look more suspicious so WHY even...

People, like Hank Green in the doc, say they don’t know why D&P have such a devoted fan base. I’d argue that the answer is pretty simple, and it’s mostly due to the idea of Phan. I’m not discounting their personalities, charm, hard work, etc. But their chemistry together and the possibility that it might be True Love draws in and keeps a lot of people that would probably grow bored of other “best friend” pairings. That “version” of Dan, which is arguably the most authentic we’re going to get, is not the same person as when he’s performing, either on stage or in gaming videos, etc. Live-show Dan gets agitated, goes on tangents on topics that he knows most of his audience won’t relate to, and he ignores the fact that Phil is destroying their kitchen and it can be heard clearly in his room. All this to say that when he’s being more “real”, the branding falls away, and that includes being half of Phan. Now, whether you believe they are together or not, I think it will make a lot of people sleep better at night if they remember that we literally don’t know what they do in their lives that they don’t share. And what they do share is cute, and can be read into, but when they’re in full-on brand mode like in Tatinof we’re seeing the show, not the people. And yes, we love the people, but we need to stop pretending we “know” them and their lives because we just don’t. It’s their jobs, after all.

D&P wanted their doc to show two friends who play-fought over a bed. Real D&P talked about watching the whole of Bates Motel while on tour, which would have necessitated a lot of together time in front of a TV, possibly while on a bed. Who knows, really. If it bothers you that what they officially put out doesn’t match even the small glimpse of reality that we get, then I think you need to decide what you really want out of D&P- is it entertainment, or a real life love story. If it’s the latter, you’re probably SOL, because they’re going to keep that part of their lives private.

Feel free to disagree with me, I have just been thinking this for a while and the show performance solidified the dichotomy in my mind.

Just to be clear on what has me fucked up (in a bad way for once): it was not busgate. Busgate can eat a dick, there's no doubt in my mind that they shared that bed. I didn't even mind the way they addressed the bus because it felt tongue in cheek, and as others have said, like a shitpost. Which actually is a clever way of addressing it without addressing it, so fair enough.

It was the hotel room that sunk me. I get it for DITL because the wake-up scene is part of the tradition of the video and lets be real it looked weird AF in the Aus DITL. But there was no placeholder/requirement for it in the doc. Which makes me think they legit stayed apart and makes me think they actually aren't an item. I know others have reasoned why staying apart doesn't necessarily mean that and I know its not a given, but to me its the easiest explanation.

So in summary: if they're together, I'm not gonna be actually annoyed about no-phano-ing. Disappointed? Yeah. A bit salty because of them using it when it suits them and denying the rest of the time? Yeah. But not actually annoyed because its their choice and for various reasons I can see why they'd want to keep it to themselves.

In stark contrast: would I be actually annoyed if they're not together? Hell yes. I'd feel strung along and tbh that's how I feel now, due to the hotel room situation.

Busgate can eat all the dicks
Maybe they really wanted to drive home the separate rooms one more time for good measure; maybe they stayed apart (that one night), maybe they didn't. Maybe Dan got coughed on one time too many and decided to make use of his better room rather than sneak up to Phil's under cover of night/lack of camera crew; Phil did kind of look like death in that scene. Lots of options in any case.

When Dan was taking his magic trick away from him the awwwwww from the audience was real. I was there, we all hated Dan in that moment.

A part of me doesn't remember them looking at eachother on this line during my show, that it was only the end bit, but since I may be misremembering so I'll let it slide. I wonder if they had the director in their ear telling them to look at eachother more and that's why dan is doing it so much, but phil just can't manage to do it without throwing himself off count?

Yes, that pose is used in musical theater for a reason. it works, but the actors have to really mean it. That look was freakin real af. There were real emotions in that one second of time. It was the one of the two seconds of the show ( the other one isnt on this tape grumble) that made me feel the love.

General thoughts: I really need a compilation video of Dan making that weird exhale through his nose laugh at something Phil says for no reason whatsoever, he does it countless times, I can’t get over it, it must mean something, like how some people just laugh at whatever someone says because they like them so much because I s2g Dan does this all the time throughout the video

I agree with Catellana, Phil looks really skinny throughout the video, I forget I’m looking at a 6’2 lanky figure instead of a petite man because damn he’s small

The lighting in deppy’s commentary changes a lot throughout the movie as the filter changes and sometimes changes in the middle of them speaking which is very obvious

Dan tongue flicks a lot. Like a LOT.

The generic music throughout is really, really off putting

Final Thoughts:
Fuck bedgate, it can got to hell and stay there. We will never find solace discussing it. Overall I liked the documentary but I think the editing was weird sometimes as if it had a team of editors working on it who consistently changed ideas and used different editing software. Has it consumed my life and destroyed me? Yes, yes it has. Time to accomplish something IRL, if you actually read the post, I'm so sorry. Toodles

This year, becoming more obsessed made me love Dan because he's just the one you go for because of his bubbly personality. Phil is more subtle in his humour, but I'm so glad it showed itself more in the films. He is honestly a wonderful, hilarious human being and I'm annoyed that it took me two films to realise it. I am confirmed Phil trash now...I totally get what you were all going about.
