i'm currently rewatching the video and changing my opinion to say that dan rating locations with 1 star simply because phil had a close guess is extra
loved dizzy's timestamps and thoughts and i have to agree that phil being unphased by dan is a beautiful thing to witness. it seems like quite a contrast to the louder kind of extraness (if that makes sense) and phil giggling or rolling his eyes and i'm really happy this video exists.
i also only now noticed phil's t-rex comment and i'm amazed that dan immediately understood what he meant and automatically paraphrased it.

Just wanna say the entire interaction from 12:36 confuses me so much. I get what they're talking about at the start, but when it gets to:
Phil: Oh, Denver.
Dan: Denver
Phil: No, you've made me think it's-
Dan: Colorado, yeah.
then just the way Phil abruptly straightens slightly and narrows his eyes in confusion(?) I'm just left like ??? wow guys, not all of us are mind readers, can you pls explain every movement and mindmeld with an indepth extended essay.

You made me curious so I went back and re-watched it. If you consider the part they mentioned right before that I think it makes more sense.saffarinda wrote:Just wanna say the entire interaction from 12:36 confuses me so much.
Dan asks, "Where's the place in America that's high up?" Phil answers, "The Rockies" which is one of the highest mountain ranges. But then Dan says, "The town," probably meaning to find it on the map. That's when Phil answers, "Denver," and then Dan says "Colorado."
I think the eye squinting was just trying to remember that Denver was the capital of Colorado and the city you might associate with the Rockies since it is so close.
In other news, does anyone know if Deppy is heading back to London right away or staying in SoCal a little longer?

Re: whether they're staying in CA
Phil said he won't be doing a ls until July and I took that to mean they wouldn't be back but I guess it doesn't neccessarily mean that. Phil could be busy with something back in the UK.

July is only four days away, so that'd only be one missed liveshow from Phil - tbh I think even if they're back today or tomorrow he might just take the chance to not do a liveshow this week.Susanisnotafish wrote:Re: whether they're staying in CA

I wasn't clear on whether he was speaking for both his as well as Dan's liveshows not happening until July. But I'm not getting my hopes up that there will be a Dan show this week either.alittledizzy wrote:July is only four days away, so that'd only be one missed liveshow from Phil - tbh I think even if they're back today or tomorrow he might just take the chance to not do a liveshow this week.Susanisnotafish wrote:Re: whether they're staying in CA

I took the whole conversation as personal recollection, since they did a show in Denver. I seem to recall that they were quite aware of how high it was:Blue Girl wrote:You made me curious so I went back and re-watched it. Why do I waste brain cells remembering tweets from a year ago.
"If you're left-handed, ask a friend."
"Why am I left-handed?"
"Everybody makes mistakes."
The Denver thing didn't stand out to me at all, I thought it was just them trying to remember which city was high up. Phil also mentioned Des Moines when he saw it on the map, I guess all the American places just reminded them of the American leg of TATINOF and they might have had a bit of trouble remembering which city was which since they saw a lot of places in a short amount of time.

A screenshot as been acquired. Honestly though, it'd probably be a valid contribution to the page if someone just sourced his recording for that younow. I have no idea no idea how to edit Wikipedia and can't be bothered to do it right now, otherwise I would.LtrllySusan wrote:Btw fun fact, someone edited the wiki article to My Dad Wrote a Porno to include Phil as a "notable listener" (didnt add a source though)

Since Cat apparently has a collab with them coming this week, any guesses on what it'll be? Or things you'd like to see her make them do?
On the topic of editing wikipedia...can somebody please change Phil's picture? It gives me nightmares. *I feel bored with almost all Youtube content I'm subscribed to, especially collabs, persona-heavy (or personality-heavy) stuff bores me, even a lot of Deppy (though I loved the Geoguessr vid but I'm an avid Geoguessr player so ) If they manage to do something fresh or out-of-the-box than they normally do, I'll be surprised but that's what I would like to see
Also I'm bored with Deppy and some of their repeated jokes, like the fisting hand movements and then acting surprised. Mehh. Maybe it's me I'l go back under my rock now and not spoil all the fun for everyone

What I'd like to see is her filming feeding each other blindfolded while she provides them things like syrup and whipped cream but from behind the cameraalittledizzy wrote:Since Cat apparently has a collab with them coming this week, any guesses on what it'll be? Staying within the realms of possibility, a board game or a card game might be nice.

I feel you, maybe its just life getting in the way but i haven't felt genuinely excited by a video for a while and its funny as I was chatting to my sister at the weekend (she got me into deppy and shes 10 years younger than me) and she was saying how she's getting bored and isn't into it as much anymore (and she's met them 3 times!). I dunno, i still look forward to liveshowsbee wrote:Idk, something boring*alittledizzy wrote:Since Cat apparently has a collab with them coming this week, any guesses on what it'll be? I've been thinking the same thing lately. I don't feel very excited for their content anymore. Maybe the thing in February will be exciting, at least that's what I'm hoping.BSV wrote:I feel you, maybe its just life getting in the way but i haven't felt genuinely excited by a video for a while and its funny as I was chatting to my sister at the weekend (she got me into deppy and shes 10 years younger than me) and she was saying how she's getting bored and isn't into it as much anymore (and she's met them 3 times!). Their content hasn't actually changed, though. It's just that fandoms are like relationships, you go through honeymoon periods near the start where everything is fascinating and exciting and every day you discover something new that just makes you feel freshly infatuated... and then eventually that levels off, and the things that felt so new and exciting are just normal.onetruetrash wrote:I've been thinking the same thing lately. And like relationships, sometimes you realize that there was no substance beyond the infatuation and you get bored and the interest fully fades. IDB itself gets a new wave of posters every few months and some of those only post for a few months and then find a new interest and just kind of disappear. But for a lot of people that honeymoon period ending just brings about a new comfortable phase that involves community and making friends and consuming/creating content outside of just waiting around for the next video.
(There is no right or wrong implied in this post, just me rambling about fandom and how cyclic it is.)

If the rules are still the same as some years ago, then the person uploading the photo needs to be the copyright holder, unless the photo was uploaded to flickr or the like with a special copyright licence. So it's unfortunately a bit tricky - which is why when you look at other celebrities' pages, they often have stage or red carpet photos.000dia000 wrote:On the topic of editing wikipedia...can somebody please change Phil's picture? I agree with the fact that Dan and Phil haven't changed their content and that we tend to lose interest after we get through our phase of being enthralled by the novelty of them. But I guess that's kind of the point? The fact that they keep repeating the same content and, as bolded, keep repeating the same jokes and same <kind of fakish> reactions is what makes people 'bored'.alittledizzy wrote:Their content hasn't actually changed, though. I get that you could say that it's not Dan and Phil's jobs to make content that everyone will enjoy and that if someone does not like their content anymore they should move on naturally to something that they find more engaging. But I think that people systematically pointing this out, saying that they think it would be cool if Dan and Phil try to go a bit outside the box or explore other ideas is fair criticism and something I quite agree upon, and I think that it's objectively something most people tend to agree when speaking about Dan and Phil and their content both on the gaming channel and their individual channels. They are entertainers - their goal is to make people engaged and excited about each new video and if that doesn't happen then we can conclude that some people are losing interest not only because of the lack of novelty or excitement dizzy described but also because constant repetition of something that worked before doesn't mean that, just because the content hasn't objectively changed, the quality of the experience hasn't, and I think that is what counts.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that, true, the content hasn't changed, but I don't think that the ending of the 'honeymoon period' (though it's 100% real) is the only reason people lose interest . Sometimes people who have been watching someone's content for ages may progressively lose interest even if they had long lost their initial infatuation. I guess my question is whether it's the entertainer's roles - as people who aim to entertain the biggest amount of people possible - to adapt their content or if they don't have their responsability whatsoever and if it's merely the audience's role to adapt (or abandon) the 'fandom'.
I feel like I'm kind of going round in a circle and that my point doesn't really matter much unless there is a general disappointment in the audience rather than individual disappointment, but that's obviously hard to tell and anyways, I'd love to hear other thoughts, I'm a bit conflicted on this.

Oh man, I understand what you're saying but I disagree hard that there hasn't been any real change - Dan and Phil right now are almost not the same people that Dan and Phil of early 2016 are. In Dan's case, literally - he was danisnotonfire and now he no longer is. They're both more open and affectionate and relaxed with each other, their style of humor and reactions to jokes the other person makes has changed. Phil's humor is more adult and there's less feigned ignorance. Both of them freely reference male attraction now. Dan is more open about his mental health issues/anxieties. On a more personal level, they hide less of themselves and what they do together from us; the family trips, the selfies.hopinglester wrote:I agree with the fact that Dan and Phil haven't changed their content and that we tend to lose interest after we get through our phase of being enthralled by the novelty of them. Maybe if you only started watching them in January of this year (not speaking to you specifically, just picking a month at random) and now it's June you feel like they are stagnant but no as someone who started in 2015, this current Dan and Phil is all about change. Even the fact that they post videos regularly is a sign of that change.
I suppose you have a point that gaming channel specifically content-wise hasn't changed, but why would it? It's a gaming channel. They will continue to making gaming videos because that is what it's for, there's no reason and not much room for them to adapt to new concepts. There is room for them to personally continue to change within the content, and that's what they absolutely have been doing.
(also coming back to edit and say I recognize there is some contradiction in my 'the content hasn't changed' comment from earlier - that was more looking at the perspective of someone who has only been a fan for a few months coming down from the initial high, which is a separate thing from them having been evolving over the past couple of years)
Edit: I didn't realize the vid was already posted, since YT stuff is blocked on the network I'm on currently.
Re: getting bored with dnp
I always go through a super intense obsession phase with a new fandom for a month or two, and I think that period is nearing its end. I still enjoy their content and look forward to their stuff, but then again I haven't been a fan for all that long. I think a few months down the road, I would have exhausted all the backlog of dnp-related stuff (which is what fueled me for the last while; those 2009/2010 stuff sure have some gems), and dnp will just be another fandom I consume alongside my other ones, instead of it consuming all my time and attention.
I do think that they're evolving, not stagnating, though. Even compared to videos from the beginning of the year, there's marked differences in how they interact and the things they're allowing themselves to share on-camera and in social media. I do agree that some aspects of their particular brand of humour can get repetitive, but overall they're still entertaining to me. We'll see how I feel a few more months down the line
