From Tomska's tumblr: Sadly this sketch was rejected (ironyyy) and will never see the light of day which is why I decided to “leak” it as much as I could without giving away any of the gags xhttps://thetomska.tumblr.com/post/16174 ... -where-dan
When he says rejected, does that have to mean Tinder? Or could it also be that Dan and/or Phil didn't want to do it?
That's actually how I understood it, but I have no idea.
It would be pretty rude of him to tweet out a sketch that Dan and Phil declined to be in, so I'm thinking Tinder rejected it.

Keep in mind that he was a teenager when he sent those mails and this happened in the early 2000s. I believe the mails are real and I can totally see northern teenage Phil sending them some time around 2003 or 2004.
I was a teenager back then too, I was 13 in 2003, that's why I feel "qualified" to have an opinion
I've spent the majority of my life on the internet, dealing with all sorts of weirdos, and while I have seen a LOT of people talking that way, it just doesn't seem like Phil. But who knows, maybe he was a dumb kid at 17 and matured drastically over the next few years.

i understand why he didn't, but i SO wish he put in alice's replies! judging by what he wrote, it's fairly obvious that she reciprocated and i really wish we could see what she was writing lmao
edit: just wanted to add that i really loved how genuine his laughs were throughout the whole vid

What I really love about Phil's videos where he digs out old chat logs and emails, is that it makes me think about his habits of saving things like that. Because if he has archives of when he catfished Alice as a teenager, then he surely has archives full of his early conversations with Dan stored up somewhere. And I love the idea of Phil saving and keeping them back then, and sometimes just scrolling through them now when he's bored and reminiscing.

That video was hilarious! Judging by the spelling, grammar, and general immaturity of those emails, I'd guess Phil was about 12 or 13 when he wrote them. My favorite quote would have to be, "I wrote your name on a piece of paper and put it in my wallet." Oh, Phil! That poor kid!
I really hope this kicks off a new series of videos.

I hope your right! I imagine that sometimes, but I might be projecting because I do that exact thing with my old MSN chat logs that I would copy/paste into google docs back when I was chatting with my now-husband. So embarrassing and kinda looks like what Phil has shared in his videos

I dont know if it's just me but I feel like the climate on the internet has changed significantly in the last like ten years or so. Back when Phil wrote this, anonymity and fake personas seemed to be pretty standard. i remember getting into some weird things like this when i was young and not really knowing what i was doing either.
Now, there is an expectation that even if you're kind of anonymous on the web-- not using your real name etc.-- like in forums like this, you're still not just flat out making up information about your life. like i'm not telling you all that i'm 32 year old lawyer who lives in near the brooklyn bridge and makes homemade baby food or whatever.
Back when Phil probably did this, I feel like it was much more common to just make stuff up and use the internet as this 'consequence free' zone to get to pretend to be somebody else for awhile. It was problematic then too, but mostly you were told not to reveal information about yourself to others online, rather than to not lie to them, if that makes sense.
this is all to say that i wasn't shocked by the content of phil's video. i'm a little younger than phil (i'm dan's age) but i still remember talking to people who sounded a lot like phil back then and looking back on it were probably lying about a whole heck of a lot. (also, my shift key is broken so you can tell when i'm on computer for lack of capital letters.)
anyway, i liked the video. i never mind spon stuff because idk this is their job and i'd be taking all the spons if i were them.

You're not wrong. I'm close to Phil's age, and this video reminded me of a particularly cringy afternoon I spent at a friend's house when I was around 13. We took turns making up ridiculous screen names and personas to participate in a teens only AOL chat room. I think one of my personas was a 13 surfer girl from California. Gosh, now that I think about it, I think my friend actually convinced some kid that she was a princess/ninja. So yeah, it was definitely a thing for kids just trying out the internet to play around with stuff like that. We took for granted that the other kids in the chat rooms were doing the same thing. If not, then having your own personal roller coaster in your backyard was apparently a thing back then

iihappydaysii and sapienveneficus, i agree with your impressions from the internet ~back then~ (i'm dan's age too). while i was watching, i didn't question it at all -- the e-mails sounded fairly realistic to me and i automatically assumed that alice was probably making up just as much about herself as snowdude did. apart from the trying out aspect, i'm thinking that maybe this different "climate" also might have been due to people trying to be careful when talking to ~strangers on the internet~? it's just what i recall personally: being warned not to tell anyone personal details all the time, so in order to be able to still share stuff when trying to make friends online, i'd make things up or bend facts. nowadays we're probably just disillusionised that our data goes everywhere in any case so strangers on the internet seem less scary and we don't even try anymore lol
possible daniel tinder spon: although i liked phil's video, i think my capacity for tinder spons is filled for now. but i'm thinking if they both got it offered, maybe phil just thought it'd be a good opportunity to whack out some more snowdude which he might have done in any case eventually? idk
additional thought on phil's vid: i kind of wish now he'd clarified how old he was?

I was pleasantly surprised to see a video that catered to his older demographic rather than just the tweens.
I'm two years younger than Phil and can confirm, people really did talk on the internet like that in the early 2000s. I had an internet BF who called himself Kirby and sent me pictures of professional swimmers whenever I asked him for a pic...lmao

yeah, and i def feel like phil went by that, especially because i feel like i remember reading somewhere that phil didn't let anyone on youtube know his last name for a long while on youtube. totally makes sense with the earlier internet days of either making stuff up or just not being anywhere near as open as we on the internet are today

I'm not sure I understand this Tinder thing What I gather from my trashcan and from only keeping up with Tom's vlogs, they've approached (fairly recently) Tomska for a sponsored video, didn't like the first version of the script he suggested, he wrote Rejects 2 with Dan and (less) Phil in it, last week Tinder made him know they didn't like it either, and now Phil made a solo spon for Tinder. Was it Tom who suggested deppy do a spon for Tinder or did they (Phil?) get contacted independently? I also imagine that Tom got the script approved by deppy before suggesting it to Tinder, but it realy seems uncharacteristically, idk, open to interpretations to me, Dan talking about going on a date, even in a sketch, would give the phandom a collective heart attack. Also, it's an obvious one, but I loved the "learn to love himself" joke
Phil's video was alright, didn't really make me laugh, but didn't make me cringe as much either As I don't date men, I don't really have any negative associations with that kinds of overly eager messaging style (I realise how that sounds, #notallmen, but you know what I mean). What I got from the video though (and others have already said it) is another confirmation that his whole life up until the end of the year 2009, Phil was desperate to get a date, but since then - absolute silence. I appreciated the gender neutral mentions, less so only male pictures in the end, he threw in Dil, could've been more.

I vaguely remember finding Dans about a year after this video - all photos and stuff were down but I remember it saying his age, location (Manchester - so he'd wiped it but not deleted it before moving to London), interested in friends. I don't know if its still up though because it was 4 years ago that I found it.
I THINK I took a screenshot but that phone died in a fire (not joking) so I don't have any way of accessing it. I'm certain it was his account though.

I watched the video and it wasn't that bad, it was a pretty standard Phil video.
I agree with what others have said, I have a similar memory of the internet as a teen.
Everybody was writing bullshit for fun and to make themselves seem cooler online than they were in real life, and everybody was more careful because it was a generation that transitioned from a time when there was no internet.
People became more reckless when social media became popular.
Dan was definitely more reckless than Phil with his online print, but it worked out for both of them in the end.

wow guys - I just watched the new video and just wow. I relate so hard. I still have all the old aim convo's from when my husband and I were teens and I remember the 14 year old boys on mmorpg's who sadly discovered I was a girl sometimes and there were so many memories lol.
With that said - this whole video was strangely sexual? Its cute to pretend this was just exchanging emails but lets face it how much masterbating do you think was done to poor alice? And the tinder thing about "you don't have to look for your soulmate, sometimes it's fun to just swipe right?" Way to promote casual hook-ups Phil. I haven't read the rest of the comments yet so I don't know if you all agree or not buy I was surprised nonetheless by this content that straddled the line between cute and wholesome and probably creepy lol.
Also, is there a master thread somewhere that discusses what a manipulative little brat younger phil (and possibly older phil) was? It obviously didn't work since both alice and Lucy (from the break-up) seemed to not fall for it, but still way to try. I think these actually pre-date the breakup vid since he hadn't been dying his hair yet or been using msn chat.
Anyway I laughed the entire time, it was a cute vid.

What I don't get is why they can't do the sketch anyway even if it's not a spon?
Is it too expensive to make? Is there some punchline that only works if they talk about Tinder? Does Tinder have some kind of copyright over the script?

I thought that was weird too. Why would Tinder reject the script then copyright it? Doesn't make much sense. I think it has to do with some outside source like you said, like money or the punch line wouldn't make sense or something along those lines.

sketches take a lot of time and money to make, tomska only makes them about once a month. ofc you can make interesting and creative spon videos, but in the end the script is still based on the sponsor's requirements and doesn't allow you to use your creativity fully. so if you are a creative person who has limited resources (like time and the need to sleep sometimes), you dont want to "waste" them on secondary projects that are, in the end, controlled by someone else. (100% guessing based on my half-assed experiences) (also i just realized tomska has organized his work so well, like he can make complex quality stuff that takes time and effort and upload only rarely, and at the same time keep himself relevant and feed the fans via last week vlogs which are easy to film. and as the good quality sketches bring him the views and exposure the vlogs alone wouldnt, he is successful enough to have employees edit the vlogs witch which would usually take huge part of his time. wow. i wonder if could so something similar as at least dan seems to have been struggling with balancing his content since forever... but they are probably way too private and want to be in complete control over their content.)
about the new video, tbh i really havent liked any videos that phil has made alone during the past year (except maybe the gym video). he's still really entertaining on the gaming channel and collabs, but im so bored of the amazingphil video style (but, still, they are good mindless comfort videos, and thats probably what he wants to make so im not complaining). but this was for some reason very funny to me. i might even watch it again! wondering if its because im really tired and my brain isnt functioning, or if it just reminded me of his earlier videos, or if he really acted differently in this one? gotta analyze tomorrow after some sleep
