Trying to break out of literally years of lurkdom wow

Hi!

So I registered in GG in October 2014 to discuss D&P when I somehow grew this silly infatuation with them, and I pretty much read (hardly ever posted) the threads actively up until the point when all the shit went down recently. When GG was down I happened to see a link to this forum in the blogpost comments and I must say I do prefer this place, GG seemed to toxic especially outside of the D&P threads.

I guess the main reason I find it so hard to post regularly and participate in the discussion is that I used to post and overshare a lot on forums over a decade ago when I was a teenager and I regretted it so much I've pretty much kept mum everywhere online ever since :D Now I tend to overthink everything I write and pay too much attention to what others think of me, but I'm trying to work on that :D I do feel slightly more comfortable posting here than GG since this seems a bit more intimate, I guess.

So yeah, I'm 25, nearly 26 years old and hopefully I'll have a Master's degree in English philology within the year. After that, I have no idea what I'll do so not in a real hurry to graduate, probably why my master's thesis (do you call this a dissertation?) is not really advancing atm...

I have no idea what it is about D&P that has kept me interested for this long but here I still am... I am far too ashamed to share my passion with them with people irl so I'm glad I have some place to feel like I'm not alone

I do have to say thank you for the hours upon hours of entertainment and even deep discussions I've read over the years so cheers

Hey I'm the same way! I'm a loooong time lurker for the most part (made like 3 posts during 2 years of lurking on GG). I'm just very shy and afraid of being ganged up on if I say something wrong. Probably stupid, but hey that's just the way I am. I have to so much to say though, so I'm try to break out of that shell as well. I agree, this site is way less intimidating.

Best of luck to you friend!

"very shy and afraid of being ganged up on if I say something wrong" is me in a nutshell. :( I post tons of things on IDB but if you look at my actual posts you'll notice I rarely actually express any opinions, or at least not any controversial ones.

I love reading everyone else's opinions though, and intellectually I know that if you have things to say you should say them — it will only add to the discussion! And hey, even if you do get ganged up on, which you probably won't, your thoughts are still valid. Even if you're actually wrong, it's just an opportunity to learn!
(LOL not that I take my own advice. Easy to say, hard to do.)

Anyway, welcome to both of you, Kuu and shalini00. I'm glad you ventured out of lurking. :D

Sneaky!

Welcome guys - come out of lurkdom and join the main thread - we're only talking about snuggles and cuddles and hugs! (or at least that was the case 30 seconds ago!)

Thank you so much and good luck to you too, maybe we can actually do this :platonic: It's nice to read about similar experiences, and I suspect there are many more lurkers still lurking about...

Concerning not expressing any controversial or strong opinions, I relate  I'm aware I should just try and grow thicker skin but damn it's hard being such a sensitive person lol.

In general people here are really nice and just want to share the love. No need to be afraid.

We can have our own ex-lurker D&P trash support group. Meetings on Thursdays. Coffee provided.

I love seeing lurkers coming forward. I hope you do decide to to join in - I get being afraid of some conversation, but there are a lot of fun threads you won't find much divisive content in! :)

This forum site is much more friendlier/comfier, the community feeling will hopefully make the lurkers come out and play :platonic:

Sounds like a deal, I feel like a lurker like me would need something like that, I feel like it'd be so easy to just fade back into obscurity and never post again...

Haha, I can definitely see myself hiding in the other threads trying to gather some courage to post in the main thread  Love your fics btw
