From what they described, Phil WAS unconscious and Dan WAS allowed to go back with him, so I don’t really understand the hypothetical / this being a rationale for marriage (not that I’m opposed to them being married, but this doesn’t seem like the reason for it).

I thought it was a shift in openness in how Dan described himself getting sent to “the relatives room” (I feel like in the past they would have just called that the “waiting room” or something). But then again, maybe the staff only thought Dan was Phil’s “relative” due to being his child lmao

Overall, sounds like a horrifying experience all around but I’m glad he’s okay!!

Even though there isn't a direct connection, all their health problems make me a little uncomfortable with their regular jokes about how bad they are at taking care of their physical health. Like, yes, it's funny that they never go outside, don't work out, don't put much thought into their diet, etc... but maybe they really, really should??

Interestingly enough I got a friend who works in that hospital - apparently there is a difference between the relative room and the waiting room - the fact that they sent Dan to the relative room does indicate that they thought it was quite serious and expects to have to give more serious “news” to Dan .. but then Dan might have just called it that who knows 😅

The thought of Dan just sitting there editing the trailer is weirdly hilarious to me though.

I’m sure there are things they could do better, but I do not get the impression that they’re particularly flippant about their health. Of course they make jokes but in terms of serious things they’ve told us, it seems that they both make an effort to take care of themselves. Phil in particular has made several videos advocating for getting checkups done like a colonoscopy. They both seem relatively fit and have made comments about going to the gym, doing boxing (I think?), etc. also we know diet has been a thing for Dan at least in terms of being vegan. We know phil has given up a bunch of stuff that has caffeine in it (INCLUDING CHOCOLATE?!) for health reasons. Etc. Also, stress is bad for your health and they seem to be trying to make changes that lower their stress levels.

Obviously being health / fitness influencers is NOT their lane and they know that’s not what their audience is here for (if they start making videos where they walk shirtless through the grocery store and rant about how regular foods are poison, I WILL leave! ). I’ve always gotten the impression it’s something they both do care about- but it doesn’t necessarily come easily to them to stick to things (#relatable).

I'm also on team 'they are much healthier than they perform to be'
I'm actually feeling inspired by how many healthy choices they mention here in there, even as they joke about not being active and all - which I think makes me more relatable bc we are not an audience of active people/there's lots of mental health issues/they started as being the indoor asocial nerdy type.
While in reality they're still very indoors types, but far healthier and mature - being 30+ now - than their old personas/their young audiences would let us see

The Hospital/next of keen question made me think about marriage too! However, I don't even remember if Phil's parents are married? Are they? Dan doesn't have a good example of marriage in his family.
So yeah, the only reason I see is taxes and it doesn't feel like they're ready to mix in that sense - with each having their own financial account and the mortgage already under the belt (which would have prompted some discussions of money but didn't change things for them)

That is NOT anything like maybe accidentally swallowing a bit of super glue. That is life and death and genuinely traumatic. I've seen people say this is a new comfort video for them and I'm like??? how??? (no judgement lol I just genuinely can't even fathom it. I don't know if I could watch a second time. I have too much of my own medical trauma lmao.)
I relate to this, though I probably will rewatch the video because I enjoyed the banter. I know Phil says he doesn't want sympathy, but honestly, last night, hours after I watched the video, I was hit with a deep sadness that they had to go through such a horrible experience like that. I am so glad that Phil's okay and that he and Dan are able to share the story and laugh about it now that it's over. I also think it's healthy that Phil says he's choosing not to dwell on this.

More than anything, I hope they've been able to relax on their holiday! I loved seeing their pictures -- they look so happy, and the whole photoset felt so much more "coupley" than we've gotten before. Something has definitely shifted with them in this past year with what they're willing to share.

re: their health: To be fair, this particular incident started because of Phil being proactive about his health! Also, I really do get the sense that "we're nerds who never go outside" has always been a bit of a running joke that's gotten less true as they age. They've mentioned exercise classes they've gone to, and I think they do eat healthier than they used to (Dan still seems to be eating mostly vegetarian, if the pizza and soup videos are anything to go by?). I just think it's not an "exciting" or relevant thing to show their audience, you know?

As a regular blood donor in England whose blood was recently released in that particular hospital, I accept everyone's gratitude graciously (/joke obvious but how weird how close things interlap sometimes).

Wishing Phil best of health, those 2014 phanfics really overmanifested

I hope you're joking about knowing the location of that hospital too because I do not engage with them, but Twitter has some strange phannies in it :?

I'm surprise no one has mentioned Shrek 5, the trailer and the song! It's so cool that it has been credit song for WAD and now a massive marketing asset in this global campaign!

DnP MUST lower their rejection to mainstream media like the BB and get to work with the campaign in some capacity!! (joking of course but wouldn't that be perfect??)

I live in London, the location is immediately obvious due to the view and then the hospital too.

Please be joking D:

but I'm sure they MUST have done something to protect location of the hospital (either going to a very distant one or don't know, using someone's else photo just to give the idea)

I cannot imagine the madness that it would be if people actually found out their location, knowing how permanent and what a dream this house is

I know people freak out about location stalking/sharing and that's understandable, but I do think it's very important to acknowledge that there's always gonna be people knowing the general location where they live, it's just inevitable.

And that's not even because people actively stalk around or overanalyze pictures, but because they live in London. It's easy to recognize certain neighborhoods and pick up on little things if you literally live there yourself or are just familiar with the city. And plenty of fans (or randos who just recognize them) live in London so yeah.

Last time they showed a 'fake' picture in the video when talking about a location/viewing point, I don't think we know whether they did the same for the picture of the hospital view (which is so smart of them tbh leave us guessing boys it's more fun!) but either way some people are gonna recognize the location in that picture. I once had the fortunate misfortune of recognizing a hotel they were at in Tokyo (2019) because I had seen it before in a vlog of another YouTuber (ex Jvlogger probably) and it's not like I can switch off my memory. I imagine it's the same for Londoners.

But afaik there's no addresses getting passed around the web at this point in time (maybe just outing myself as out of touch now but hey i have faith in y'all) so they're fine.

General reminder that sharing addresses on here is also forbidden, we don't really care about temporary locations where they no longer are though. That's controversial, we know.

Not sure why but Dan being 'rude' to us and the overall defence of their taste/goofy aim made this one of my favourite videos among the recent ones

I think it's because It made it feel like they were being very transparent with us, you know? Dropping pretences and just saying 'this is us' - innocent as this is <3

I find it interesting how Dalien's outfit, to me, feel more playful with gender. Dil was like that too, but with Dalien is more explicitly so.

As for location, well, I guess the dangerous thing would be for the info to leak out of this website - which I feel is inhabited by rather reasonable people! And ruled by the respect of the guidelines, which are actually followed.

Twitter and Tumblr host some scary people (I hope they're teens!) I genuinely thought the phandom had moved on from a certain type of obsessive sense of entitlement but it sadly still features heavily on those websites.

Over the years in different fandoms I've seen various reactions to people learning personal info about different celebrities, especially if it wasn't shared by them but sometimes even if it was. And personally I never understood the people who went all "I hate that I know where XY lives." or "I hate that I know the name of XY's mom" and I'm just like... why? If you're not a creep who wants to do something bad with that piece of info, knowing something does literally zero harm  You can feel uncomfortable knowing that such info is out there for potential creeps to access but I think that's different. But I've experienced a wide variety of fans ranging from those who would stalk celebrities and befriend anyone and everyone working on a TV show to get close to the cast to those who acted like knowing any personal info about given celebrities was going to ruin their life because they're above knowing stuff

People are gonna know stuff about them simply through living close to where they live or where they run their errands etc. And that's mostly fine. Plus from my experience in fandoms, when there are leaks about personal lives of celebrities, it's usually someone close to them, like a family member or a friend with loose lips and need for attention. And we know Dan doesn't trust anyone but Phil with any secrets

To be honest I'm surprised by this reaction.

London is a city with a lot of extremely distinct and recognisable architecture, landmarks and skyline. Over the years mI (surely many other fans) recognised locations and routes of Dan and Phil just by...looking at pictures and videos of the city we live in. I can assure I've never shared that nor done any particular research.

I generally think *most* of the fandom moved on since "someone found this exact Airbnb online and it's offered with a single bedroom" years (does anyone else remember that week?)

This could be misinformed, as I was not around that AirBnb thing (oh gosh) and my knowledge comes from watching some clips on more recent youtubers being stalked w police being called to their home etc, but my impression is that obsessive fans do dig into details, not sure how, and end up finding home addresses and all.

It's of course awful, and (certainly!) applicable to a small, rare percentage of people, but the sense of entitlement some users express, to me, feel dangerously close to an obsessive behaviour that makes them feel like DnP owe them certain actions  It's the same indignant behaviour I would expect from a voter against their political candidate (I voted for you; you should keep your promises and will send you emails/call your administration for you to hear me)

So when something as proximal to them as an hospital is being shared, I wonder whether those few people will dig into it. You're right in saying that landmarks are known (you cannot not recognise the London Eye) so that's inevitable, but that's why it felt like a vulnerable move on their side? And hence why I think they must have concealed in some ways, I would think.

It's fun to see them share more, under their own control, and that no one ruins this.

Re: knowing and seeing or searching for locations, I do think much of the culture surrounding like, kids on twitter proclaiming that people should never be aware of these things even passively comes from this fear of wanting to feel approval from dan and phil? i remember when dan wasn't posting at all for the first year or so there was this like anxious mentality permeating where people who hadn't experienced a change in their fandom before seemed to feel like if they just behaved better dan would come back. I think older fans feel this less generally for a number of reasons, but seeing a lot of PSA you're so creepy if you know where dan and phil are vacationing tweets this week brought those thoughts back.

What I actually came here to talk about though is Dragon City. I'm going insane. I can't take it anymore. (lighthearted). I'm at the point where I'm digging on who their publishers etc are because I truly cannot fathom how this game has enough money for this kind of ad campaign. Is anyone else in this boat with me??

I honestly feel like Dan and Phil need to be given more credit. They've been doing this for 15 years now - they're aware of what can be shared and what shouldn't be. They've learnt their own boundaries and I feel like they do carefully consider every snapshot and picture they give us. They know how parasocial their fans are and what some fans might look for. Not saying they can't make mistakes, or missread what someone might take from something, but they're very expreinced about this sort of thing now. I feel like they would consider this kind of thing everywhere they go.

I also do think in general the fanbase is better about general creepiness than say, even 5 years ago. Not saying there's no chance of stalkers being in the fandom and figuring out where they live, but I feel it's way less likely nowadays.

@fizzymcguire not sure I can say I've seen that culture you're talking about, but perhaps its' because I've just recently started browsing on Twitter? (so post-return) What caused my concern was seeing the other side, of some users expressing forms of entitlement that do feel a bit much. Luckily, it does feels like they are the tiniest minority (or at least it looks like they appear to be always the same few people) but, again, agree with phancon on DnP'S general ability and experience.

As for Dragon City, lol, I do not play games on my phone but they managed to made me open the sponsored link  Again, because I'm not into games, this one feels so... 'standard'? Like, it feels rather un-creative and made with the same stuff utility cars are made of (?) Efficient and standardised. So I find it so funny to see a 'flame Susan' among their characters  Like a sprinkle of goofy originality in the midst of Ai-Generated names.

I hate PSAs like that and they always happen in fandoms. Often I don't see the original offensive thing that someone did but I see million people talking about it and condemning it. Perhaps because they feel like they have to speak up against it to not seem like they endorse it or simply to make themselves look better. Because a lot of fans just want to look better than others, in whatever way.

As for Dragon City, I'm quite curious myself. How well can such a game be doing and how much money can it be earning for them to sponsor Dan and Phil so heavily? Surely it has a big enough community of players but how many of those are there because of Dan and Phil? Quite bizarre. Maybe there is just a millionaire Phannie who made this game to get Dan and Phil do stuff

I agree. If you're concerned about your privacy/getting doxxed/etc you'll carefully control what info you do or don't share online. I'm not famous and I carefully control what info I make available and what info I don't.

In any case, I honestly don't really care. D&P are rich and famous. They weren't forced into that role and can step out of it at any point if they want. They are choosing to be public "influencers", to piggyback off of their fandom to do a world tour, etc. Clearly they want this fanbase, and people finding stuff out about you is part of having a large fanbase. It's why I never want to be famous, and again, D&P can choose to retire from the public eye if they want to.

Not all invasions of privacy are the same. There's a difference between a trans woman getting doxxed by kiwifarms vs two incredibly wealthy white cis men having their fans (i.e. people who actually like them and don't have particularly malicious intentions with this information) know where they live. It doesn't pose a threat to their life or anything—in most cases of people getting doxxed online, it's a dogpile/harassment campaign against a marginalised and vulnerable person which does actually put them at serious risk. So honestly I really dgaf about the privacy of people who have way more wealth than I will ever see in my life and can choose to opt out of doing an objectively nice job (compared to most jobs, definitely any job I've ever done) that pays many orders of magnitude greater than what our jobs pay us.

it's so late but if i don't post rn i'm 100% gonna forget so forgive if i'm not very clear

This is a very good point. The majority of the people I've seen freak out over this over on Twitter also anxiously keep mentioning how ~disappointed DnP would be and we need to be on our best behavior for them because what if we scare them away again??

I do understand the anxiety to some degree but really resent the often repeated claim that the phandom was to blame for the hiatus 'cause it's just not true. But also I think it's part of a clear divide in how people experience fandom these days and that I've noticed since the phandom revival. There's a part of the phandom who consumes DnP content, but whose fandom experience is just not centered around them. Like personally I did not enjoy the phandom because I was hoping for DnP to pat me on the hat for being a good girl. And yes, the people in that part of the phandom are in my experience generally older fans I think. But there's another part of the phandom who have an evolved form of notice culture going on, which sometimes to me feels more like a performance for the sake of DnP. I don't think that's 'wrong' 'cause you do you and clearly I'm just old, but it does result in wildly different behavior and opinions around morality on subjects like personal information and even RPF.

Ok they got me with the Flame Susan skin and I downloaded Dragon City. I never play games like this -is it unplayable if I don't put real cash into it?

Also, re all the discussion of how it's inappropriate for people to know where they vacationed, I know they're not being influencers about it and posting "wow, we loved our time at the blah blah resort," but part of having an audience that is now primarily adults means that honestly....I am being influenced! That place looked amazing! I'm planning a fall trip and knowing the general area of where they went is making me think I might like to go there. Not to stalk them, because they are literally not there anymore, but how would it be bad to know where they went? People buy the same sweater as them, and i would imagine some London-based fans may check out that Detroit-style pizza place from the mukbang. Why not also take their recommendations of vacation area?

I also want to say this recent run of videos is pretty amazing. Just so funny, unique, fun - I've watched each one like 4 times. I am so excited for the rest of this tour run-up.

this is a great point. they're hyperaware of how internet sleuthing happens and they've demonstrated times where they don't want people to know something, or know something yet, so they just don't post!! i don't think they're not in control of their own narratives at this point.

this is all so real, and i think you've brought up a really good point with the notice culture. it was always there to some extent for sure, like the requirement essentially in some spaces where you would have to respond to dnp's tweets immediately to raise the likelihood of getting a notice, but now that the number of adherent die hards is smaller i think i tend to see the same culprits?
