Henlo, signing in as the unpopular opinion acc here. I’ll miss gaming videos very much, they fuel me so well and I would sell my soul for them to play more immersive games where they can debate the morals of the choices they make. And more scary games and such, I just kind of am here for the gaming content even in 2019. Even them playing sandbox games would be awesome. Any games really. Pls.

I love the bants that come with the games *beacause* they come with the games. It’s a great mix. Alternative that would make me even more happy would be if the channel became DAPBG - aka gaming channel but they play board games now.

Aaaand now to the unpopular opinion, I’d be very disappointed if they started making podcasts. I honestly don’t see the appeal in them and have never been able to listen to one for more than 2 minutes. I’m sure the bants would be great but it would be content I’d probably just end up looking for much condensed “best of” versions. Idk. No judge if someone likes them but that would be a no from me. Same with asmr videos (can’t watch and listen to those without imploding with cringe) and that sort of currently popular yt trends.

I’m also quite repulsed by people eating and mouth sounds (actually they can be even triggering for me) so I’m a bit torn on mukbangs, however the way they did the new years one was alright for me and the bants were great, so could be. Cooking and Baking videos sound even better actually!

Though... Dan and Phil volunteer at animal rescues vlogs that someone mentioned here... that would be my cup of tea definetly. And if i’m being super duper self absorbed here, dappy interacting with parrots is what my dream is. Yes i worship that Phil and budgie selfie. I won’t get over it. Thanks.

They've been there for a while, they've just been hidden in the "View more smilies" menu since they were added. I installed an extension this morning that adds a scrollbar to the smilies box on the posting page and the hearts and flags seemed the best to test it with. Might add some more emoticons to the posting page soon, too.

I've been watching the youtube videos of Phil's Q&A and I'm just... really grumpy about Phil assuming people enjoyed and subscribed to the gaming channel because they loved the deppy bants. Um, no? Some of us subscribed because of the gaming content, thank you very much. That just felt kind of demeaning, honestly. And how the hell are they ever going to recycle that channel for non-gaming banty content? It's legit called danandphilgames. I hate when folks just recycle channels to maintain the followers and don't just make a new channel, which is what they should be doing (here's looking at you, Kalel lol).

I go back and re-watch the gaming channel games, particularly undertale and the oxin game Phil made himself all the time, I listen to a playlist of the sims 4 series quite a lot. Being lumped in with a bunch of people who just like to watch them and drool over them and every second they make eye contact is just pretty insulting. I dislike the whole subscriber count being coloured with the same paint; the audience is always going to be wildly more varied than that and a bit more respect wouldn't have gone amiss

HOWEVER. On the plus side, podcast? SIGN ME UP. I hated them too but gave my dad wrote a porno a listen, now I'm subscribed to loads of true crime podcasts and loads of other stuff, I'd LOVE that. I appreciate they don't fit into some people's lives though, I listen to them when I commute to and from work every day (which amounts to 3 hours) but being able to be entertained like that just doesn't fit into a lot of people's schedules. I don't even own a TV as I'm never home, I'm always out in the city working or socialising, so whereas a lot of people are entertained by netflix and TV and DVD boxsets and cable TV, I'm not as I don't sit at home for longer than 5 mins. Podcasts suit me. I want deppy on it.

Personally, I like games a lot. I fell in love with video games when I was a little kid, and games pretty much kept me going in life. So I did enjoy watching them play games on DAPG, but...
Really, if wanting great gameplay, they'd never be my first choice. Their focus in the majority of videos was solely on the bants, they weren't very serious about their games, and despite playing Sims for 4? years, they still kinda sucked. I guess I was fine with it whether they played a good game or not, because it was their chemistry that kept me hooked. If I wanted to watch proper gaming content, I'd watch someone else (and I do watch other youtubers that are more serious about their games.)

Since they were never ~super srs gamers~, I'm really not surprised that Phil came to the conclusion that most people watch for the bants? I mean, he's not far off.
I also think it's a bit severe to refer to those that prefer their chemistry over the gameplay as "a bunch of people who just like to watch them and drool over them every second they make eye contact". Why would you watch them if not for how well they bounce off of each other? Their gameplay was usually mediocre at best.

Phil's not the one demeaning people for enjoying personality-based content and making broad assumptions about what that means. They've been showing respect for their fans, but they can't force anyone else to.

He did specifically say that some people like the gaming part of gaming videos, but he's acknowledging that the content they've been creating has not focused on gameplay or reflected any professional gaming skills. They've been creating personality-based content for a long time, including gaming videos where the term "game" is a stretch, and it seems to me that he's showing awareness of that.

For all we know, the gaming channel might come back similar to how it was before. I don't think we need to be insulting people for being fans in different ways than we are.

I don't know why you seem to be directing this towards me when I wasn't the one who suggested that I (amongst others) subscribed to the gaming channel for anything other than the gaming content in the first place? I think I'm entitled to respond to that as I please, lol cheers

I quoted the part of your post I was responding to. I'm not sure what wasn't clear about that.

I just said that we don't know what is going to happen with the gaming channel yet, so we don't need to be attacking each other for our different approaches. If you're worried that the gaming channel is going to move away from gaming, and that's part of why you're lashing out at people who watch DAPG for personality-based content, it just seems premature. None of us actually know whether we'll be happy with what happens to DAPG or not. You're allowed to express displeasure Phil's response, how he worded it, whatever, but I don't see why that needs to turn into hostility at other fans for being fans in different ways than you. All I was trying to say is that we can disagree without passing broad judgments on other people as being people who "drool over them and every second they make eye contact" and saying that you find it demeaning to be associated with us. We share fan spaces and I believe that we can share fan spaces respectfully.

quick opinions:
- I personally love the gaming vids, they're premium entertainment but as someone who likes gameplays but knows very little of gaming culture, i can see that their main focus was OBVIOUSLY not producing excellent gameplays to serve as tutorials or whatever, it was very much about bants. i would miss if they stopped playing because i have enjoyed most gaming videos they've done.

- I hope whatever Phil is working on pulls through and we get to see it one day. Whoever talked about them following some people from Netflix, this is super exciting but for some reason I have this dream headcanon that Phil would be a great creator of a game show. He probably has mentioned thinking up game show ideas before and that is why but honestly I imagine him creating what would become a classic British game show that has 93934 seasons, he is that iconic.

I think they're probably still deciding and deliberating but they must have AT LEAST some idea... also, a bit sad that he said the channel is still on hiatus but as long as they upload something after Vegas, I won't cry.

i don't mean that dan didn't really need a break, he clearly did, i just found it weird that they hadn't discussed it at all. but i guess if doing so put pressure on dan, which i can see happening, and considering how long it took him to actually make this video -so the struggle was very real and weighing on him- it would make sense.
poor dan, and i know that phil also went through the process of figuring things out but i admire his patience because i would've been super nervous and anxious about suddenly being the one making the videos and putting things on pause and continuing to put out content when things were tough. i love them and i appreciate them
