That said, can we stop talking about his mental health every time some time passes between his interactions? Because that feels kind of intrusive to me, like speculating on his well being. Just because you have depression doesn't mean that every time you go quiet is because you're going through something, and at the same time just because you're NOT quiet it doesn't mean you're doing ok either![]()

I agree with what liola said. I don't miss Dan's content and I'm perfectly okay with him not uploading on dinof, but I really do miss him, especially because I've always felt more connected to Dan than Phil in some way and I miss that connection now. I mean, on one hand we have Phil (who I am grateful for) who's out there doing liveshows, filming vids, etc. and on the other hand we have Dan who tweets every now and then and that's it. Don't get me wrong, it's possible that he's working on something we can't know anything about yet, but that doesn't change the fact that it sucks not having him around much these days, not even just for a liveshow, and not having any indication as to why. I am genuinely happy for him if he's living his best life off the internet, but I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't love to have him share even a tiny little bit of that life with us.

I'm a winter flower underground, always thirsty for summer rain.
OT does anyone else find themselves watching other youtubers who are completely unrelated to Dan and Phil only to find a random connection?
I was looking for videos about Drag race and came across a channel called Novypia, featuring a drag queen couple Nova and Olympia if you're in to Drag race or just drag in general it's a great channel their banter is a lot of fun, while binge watching some of their older videos I came across their roast video featuring other drag queens including Autumn aka Adam aka "oh that guy" from many a Jealous Dan video and the cat cafe video.
It always comes back to them for me lol.

The thing is when Dan goes all quiet like this, people's expectations for him to come back with something big only get higher. Y'know because "there's gotta be a reason as to why he's so inactive, right????? A video, moving, preparing for a wedding, some secret project????" And maybe something big will happen, I haven't a damn clue but I feel like by doing this is only putting more pressure on himself. The less people know, the nosier and more suspicious they get. That doesn't mean I think he is by any means required to tell us about anything he's got going on, just that I do hope he actually delivers at some point.
I dunno, Dan confuses me no end.

Woo, 10m, baby!
I would post a firework emoji, but the ‘more emojis’ link disappeared months ago.
Gotta say, I miss Dan’s content. A few videos were a little lost in the message, but I loved his storytimes, sketch comedy, isg. His stuff is so funny, so sharply observed and expressively performed. I well understand he could be having such a better time away from thousands of people looking at him, but if he wants to make more stuff we can see, I’m here for it.

WHOOP WHOOP 10 MILLION FOR BIG
I just want Dan to connect with us again. The mystery of what he's been up to since June has resulted in several speculations about his future career and it's starting to get a bit laughable. Before BIG with the writer retreat there was a bunch of buzz about Dan writing a show or a book or whatever, but unlike Phil who indeed confirmed to be writing something, we've heard nothing about it since. Then during Vidcon we speculated that he wanted to be more of a comedian outside of YouTube and that maybe he'd do stand up like the bit he did at the Night of Awesome or whatever it was called. So far, there's nothing.
Then there's always the imo wishful thinking about how Dan is 'totally gonna be an activist!!1' except that he's an advocate at most and not even a very involved one at that. We know he has interest in sociopolitical things and that he gets inspiration from certain BreadTubers (how good of an influence that is... idk) but being friendly with them is not enough evidence for me that that is where he wants to take his career.
I know some people will say something about how he's 'working on it' and while I do like to believe that he's working on something... why would someone need to work on literally anything to become an activist/advocate? Especially when they already have a platform to do that with? A few tweets and likes about Brexit being a mess isn't preparation for some grand entry into political social media. That's not a thing. Same thing goes for being a comedian btw. If that's something Dan wants to do, then he already has enough connections to get comedy gigs lined up.
So idk whether we're just clowns waiting for something or nothing while Dan is living his life, or whether Dan himself is waiting for yet another imaginary threshold to do something... but neither are good and that's why I wish he'd just connect more with us again. Whether that's by making videos or social media. Wanting to take a step back is valid, but doing it like this ain't the way to do it I think.
This is a ramble and not a very good one but I just woke up so idc.

Also, good post.
If he was going to be a comedian or a writer or whatever, he could be working on something for a few months because writing material takes its time. He has the connections but he might have to come up with material first. I don't think that's what he's doing though unless he's doing it in secret and I don't really see a reason for that at all. The phandom is his core audience and if he's clever it's the audience he would want to try and reach first with stand-up comedy, a book or whatever. Building an audience takes time and hard work and he's already done that so why would he keep such a project a secret from the audience he needs to support the project once it's finished? It makes no sense to me.Catallena wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2019 10:45 am I know some people will say something about how he's 'working on it' and while I do like to believe that he's working on something... why would someone need to work on literally anything to become an activist/advocate? Like, take Louise for instance. When she started "writing" her book, she told her audience right away and let them be part of the writing process (if you wanna call what she did a writing process). She knew her Youtube fans would be the first people to buy her book and support her and spread the word so she let them know about it and hyped them up a bit which is the clever thing to do. I mean, Dan could go "Surprise, I'm a stand-up comedian now, please buy tickets to my show" any minute, who knows, but I don't see how that would make sense business-wise.
I agree with you though. He might be working on another big Youtube project but honestly, why would it take so long? I get it with BIG because that wasn't just a huge project to write, film, edit etc., it was also very personal. But I really can't think of any reason why a Youtube project, no matter how high the production value was, would take months to make. Unless he's shooting a film and something tells me he is not.
And this isn't meant to sound like I'm saying I need Dan to make new content now. He can do whatever he wants and nobody can push him anyways. I'm just trying to explain why I don't really think he's working on something right now and even if he is, doing it in complete silence seems rather weird to me. I actually think he would be more active again if he had something to sell in the near future, not less.

I'm inclined to take him at his literal word when he says he doesn't know what he's doing yet or even what he's having for lunch next and that it's very possible he's not working on anything. Thinking this also helps me not get too sucked into the speculation and the associated anxiety about it.
I also think not knowing what is next is a pretty relatable thing for some people in their 20s and for anyone who struggles with procrastination/perfectionism. I certainly went through a very protracted period of feeling the same way in my 20s and feeling deeply stuck and uncertain of a next move. It just takes a lot of time to resolve, or at least it did for me.
Edited to add: I also think fairly frequently about his line in BIG about wanting the freedom to fuck up without an audience, so sometimes I amuse myself thinking about all the things he could be fucking up right now.

I actually have no idea what Dan could or could not be doing, and I am rather new to fandom. But as far as silence related to projects go, there really are some projects that are hella slow and uncertain for so long, you would not talk about them. Especially if you're in a project that you've signed a non disclosure form for (for example, film or television projects. The actual idea to screenplay to producer to distribution and all the stuff in between can take aaaaages. And often there are non disclosure things involved. And often things end up sitting for ages, and there's a lot of back and forth and often it seems like you're gonna have a green light and everything is on the way and something happens and the project looses traction etc). This is kind of neither here nor there so far as what I think Dan is or isn't doing, but more so about speculation as to why he might not just tell us what he's doing. Some projects you just can't, you know?
I mean honestly in my fake dream world, he's just living his best out life, snuggling a giant stuffed animal and letting himself breathe and take a moment. Or I want to snuggle him. It's all pretty confusing

I mean, D&P didn't say anything about their books until those were all done and ready to be sold, did they? They also announced the tours out of the blue, so I'd expect for Dan to not tell us about any secret projects he might have going on now either. Besides, it's like you said, he's already got an audience and quite a loyal one who I'm sure is more than willing to spend money on whatever he releases, whether it's merch, books or tickets. Loads of people got tickets for II long before they even knew what the show would entail.Katka wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2019 1:46 pmIf he was going to be a comedian or a writer or whatever, he could be working on something for a few months because writing material takes its time. The thing that I don't really get is why working on something means going almost completely quiet. I find it very unlikely that he'd be so incredibly busy that he can't post an Insta story or a casual tweet more often. Or take for example the art fair D&P went to with Martyn and Cornelia a lil' while ago, Phil posted a bunch of Insta stories that day but Dan was there as well, he could've posted something too and he didn't. He was also at the vegan cafe they went to with Bryony and didn't post anything either. That has nothing to do with being too busy, I just think he doesn't want to interact with people online and put himself out there. Also explains why he does continue to like tweets all the time and not tweet anything himself, he's on social media, he's got the time to scroll through it, he just doesn't want to post anything himself.
Those were all connected to their brand though so they could be sure the phandom would support them. Also, the tour and books were made with the phandom in mind. A comedy show, for instance, would probably be aimed at a larger audience than just the phandom and it wouldn't be written with the phandom in mind like the books and tours were. I think that's the big difference here. Maybe he would just expect to fall back on the phandom, even with something not just meant for the phandom, but I think it's unlikely.dancy wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2019 4:51 pmI mean, D&P didn't say anything about their books until those were all done and ready to be sold, did they? I mean, I totally can see him just throwing another secret project our way, I just don't think it would make a lot of sense. Or maybe he can't talk about it, like Judearaya said. I just think it's very unlikely for a number of reasons.
I agree with the second part of your post though, I also think he just doesn't want to connect. Which is fine but I wish he'd at least say that so we'd know what to (not) expect.
to interrupt the Dan discourse for a moment I am more curious about what Phil’s up to this week. He said he was going to upload his liveshow on Monday and idk if he forgot or got too busy but he hasn’t uploaded yet. I’m also really interested in what his Halloween video will be. I’m in the middle of missing spooky week right now but knowing he’s got something coming helps a little.
I want him to upload the liveshow just to satisfy my curiosity about whether he'll edit out the 'Push me, mommy!' joke he made while in the shopping cart, as he said if this was a video he'd edit out that bit.Amiaw wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2019 5:22 pm to interrupt the Dan discourse for a moment I am more curious about what Phil’s up to this week. I don't think he said Monday specifically. I think he said a day, and then he said 2 days--which I personally translate into 'sometime this month probably.'

Not to use nostalgia as shameless spon but I'm gonna be hosting a Phandom Watch spooky week marathon on Saturday for anyone missing it too much... we did one a couple weeks ago for people that don't like scary things/jumpscares so this one is gonna be all the seriously scary/jumpscare filled videos.

I totally forgot about the liveshow because I generally would have watched it Monday, and we're now 2 full days past that and my brain has moved on, and I think the buzz on Sunday got lost in the video buzz (as well as the continued Oct. 19 conversation). Were there highlights/notable things? All I'm seeing on IDB looking back is that he played the goose game and next ls may be on Saturday?Amiaw wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2019 5:22 pm to interrupt the Dan discourse for a moment I am more curious about what Phil’s up to this week. That's a good point, actually - are we pausing the spooky marathon for the LS or watching that as well?
Someone posted a rundown of the last LS here:

I’ll be doing full highlights with timestamps when Phil uploads the liveshow, but here are some high-level highlights based on my notes. (Please note that I can't guarantee 100% accuracy based on my rough, real-time notes.)
- The most enjoyable part of this liveshow for me was that Phil seemed to have his guard down when it came to what he was willing to say. My notes indicate that he uttered all of the following phrases during the show: “Push me, Mommy,” “dick of vanilla”, “Feed us, Daddy” (while reading from chat), “where is the hole” (in the context of playing Untitled Goose Game), “sneak up on his butt” (again in the context of playing Untitled Goose Game), “I’m a marmalade boy,” and chat said he swore while playing Untitled Goose Game (but I didn’t catch it).
- Phil told four stories from the past: (1) His dad once left his wallet at home and was unable to pay for gas, so he left his watch with the attendant as collateral while he retrieved his wallet. (2) Phil accidentally stole a postcard when he was eleven, but he returned it. (3) He brought up his grandparents’ goose again. (4) Phil ruined a picnic his family was having on a beach when he was three (I don’t remember how), and he’s not allowed to have picnics with them anymore.
- Phil told one story from the present: A pint glass broke as he was unloading the dishwasher, and he’s now continuing to find glass everywhere.
- For NEWS STORY OF THE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK, Phil talks about a guy falling asleep in an automated massage chair in a store and waking up to find that he had been locked in the store. This prompts Phil to go off on an...interesting tangent about how he would never pay to use a massage chair because you’re enjoying a vibrating butt massage in public, and lots of other people are getting sweaty in the chair from enjoying it so much.

- In terms of announcements, Phil thinks the Halloween video is going to happen. He might try playing Apex Legends during a future liveshow. And this week’s liveshow is probably going to be on Saturday because he’s busy on Sunday.

The previous post pretty much covered the highlights of the ls. Nothing really happened but it was so fun that I want to rewatch it. Other small tidbits:
-I think he said he got banned from the picnics because he ran through the water and then through the picnic
-someone sent him a premium message saying he had nice legs and he said it was only slightly creepy and then laughed about reading the premium message
- he did curse during the goose game. He was really into it and became more and more angry at the farmer as the game went on

I can’t believe that after over 3 years of being in the Phandom I’m still finding videos I’ve never seen! Comes in handy right now. The deppy part starts at 11:45.
"Rub those freckles all over me!" --Daniel Howell
This reminded me that a while ago (post-BIG but I can't remember exactly when) he said he hadn't been particularly active on social media because he hasn't been outside and done anything therefore had nothing to post about. I mean aside from the fact one doesn't need to have been "doing things" to have something to say, we know he has been up to stuff now, so perhaps he was just making excuses before about his quietness. I think sometimes he worries about upsetting the fans (same with Phil, like dancing around the fact DAPG is clearly dead) so just avoids committing to saying anything absolute. It really does seem like he is making a conscious decision to pull back from his audience, but I can't help but be curious as to why. I guess it's not necessarily any of our business but if he's going to use his fanbase for support for future projects it would be nice if he communicated a bit more. Perhaps he has good reasons, I'm probably sounding a bit harsh.dancy wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2019 4:51 pm The thing that I don't really get is why working on something means going almost completely quiet. I would really like for Dan to have a go at stand-up, he definitely has the wit and stage-presence (and interesting things to say). I don't really see how he could build up any hype from his fanbase though until he feels ready to actually get out there and start performing. I think the support of his fans would absolutely be an asset if he were to try stand up as it's a very cut-throat industry, but those fans would probably not be the best people to bounce material off on their own as they wouldn't be critical enough of him (if he needed it).
I don't blame him for taking as much time off as he wants as he has worked so hard the last few years, but I hope he decides to do something eventually (if he isn't already up to something of course), seems a waste otherwise.
