Dan & Phil Part 91: A Decade of Deppy

The planned surprise drop of the not-yet project rankled me (please do not call everyone’s complaints ‘wank’, feelings are not invalid) cos the quietness has been so long now that I was wondering if we would actually be told if he wasn’t doing things anymore. After all this waiting and wondering, another about-turn surprise seems like too much for me.

I also find it ridiculous to take 2 years to design simple things. Sounds like people at various steps of the process not caring to do their part very promptly. Again, we’d know if they told us.

That is not communication y'all. Communication address an issue and a question and he's done neither. Why can't he just fucking interact? Why building up the pressure of surprise drops when he could just tweet something a bit more? Why is it all about the Content™ when he himself call himself an entertainer that loves interacting with us? Why couldn't he just say more in that same post instead of waiting who knows how fucking long for more info?

Why hasn't he interacted before this drop? Does this mean he's going to disappear again? Is he ever going to talk about the fate of the gaming channel since it was to his benefit that was pushed away, at least from Phil's words? Is this new thing something online? Should we hope for this year? Are we going to see more of him before Christmas?

Like goddammit that isn't communication that is damage control and bad one at that, although I appreciate the clear honesty of having it written himself because I will not believe someone who actually does PR for a job would ever write that.

The merch is predictable and not bad I guess but two years to create is just ridiculous and for anyone knowing a bit of business is easy to realise, but he's showing his legs and painted his nails and he has big plans and so everything is forgotten.

Yeah, no. I'm glad for anyone that has forgiven him but this ain't it for me. And it's just going to feel more upsetting if we get a live show from Phil this weekend and radio silence from Dan for another month

I’m excited for Phil’s live show because I actually might be able to watch it live this time! Or maybe that’s a bad thing bec of younow’s quality lol. I hope he does some more gaming, I wasn’t expecting to like the gaming that much but I find myself going back to rewatch those parts of the live shows sometimes.

I wrote a few paragraphs about how I don’t understand the anger people felt and added about 50 qualifications of “you're entitled to your opinion of course here is mine!”

Then, while writing this (sitting at my desk at work because who needs to actually be productive,) the thought came to mind that mostly likely not a single person who has posted a negative opinion here is curled up into an angry ball crying over the immense betrayal of their favorite YouTuber danisnotonfire releasing merch and not posting content with it. Most likely they’re just mildly annoyed and went to the forum to post about it because it really ain’t that deep.

That, added to the fact I’m really not in the business of defending social media influencers on a forum that they don’t even read, I just wanted to instead say: yeah... it is kind of sad that the dnp content flow has changed so much this year. I’m sure that whenever what Dan is working on will be fun (whenever it comes out) and if it isn't to you then all the best wishes. In the future I'll read your rants with more compassion than before because we're complex beings who are more than our online rants lol. Thanks IDB for teaching me more about how to function as a mature adult than my entire high school and college education because I need it.

I don't think it's a baking video because he wouldn't post the photo before the video went up he'd probably post something hinting at it like food dye stained hands or flour covered clothing.

Well it could be a baking vid but if it is, it might not be with Dan cause I don't see any cupcake there that matches his aesthetics. Although, those cupcakes look properly decorated for them to be made solely by Phil's alien hands I vote for those cupcakes being store-bought.

Yes, exactly. I just needed to vent and it might not be the last time we'll get disappointed, who knows, but I guess we're all here because we like Dan (and Phil) and even if I think Dan's business choices are questionable, that won't change so soon.

I hope they enjoyed those cupcakes, they look amazing. And I'm really looking forward to what Phil will do next, I've been loving his content lately.

At the end of the Mukbang Dan said “I’m not promising you anything” and he hasn’t. If he had hinted at or even straight up said hey, I’m working on a project, there would have been those that hounded him for updates, condemned him for not communicating about the process enough. There will always be people on both sides of any situation and it’s impossible to keep everyone happy. A lot of people say they just want Dan to be happy, but on who’s terms? Saying this isn’t what I wanted, this isn’t something I find appealing or creative, while a valid opinion doesn’t negate the creator genuinely loving, working hard on and being proud of the product they produced. Im not upset about the merch drop and I’m not mad at the way Dan or Phil choose to communicate or not. I take what we get when we get it and enjoy it in the moment cause it’s usually pretty great. These are just my thoughts and opinions and in no way am I saying if you feel upset or annoyed at the way things are handled that you shouldn’t.

Ok here’s my issue coming from someone who was very much upset at dan yesterday. We are literally asking for the bare minimum. No one is expecting a video or a project or anything. All I was upset about was that he didn’t communicate in any way, shape, or form until he was about to drop merch. He could have kept the project secret and be done with it as long as he took 10 minutes out of his day to just tweet and reply to other people or just post an insta story of what he’s listening to or just something! Like I truly don’t care if he’s working on a project as long as he still manages to acknowledge his audience. Also just going to put it out there that phil has said three times now that he is working on a project that he doesn’t know if it will go anywhere and no one hounds him for updates on it.

The saving grace in all this is that we have finally been blessed with the dandle!

Edited to add: I don’t understand why he didn’t at least do a live show to launch this merch. Such an easy small gesture would have made me feel so much better about his recent behavior.

Yeah, this would have been the perfect opportunity to finally come through with that candle haul he’s been teasing for ages.

I am glad he chose not to completely ignore all of the criticism about this latest merch drop. It doesn’t let him off the hook of course, but it’s a step in the right direction. The true test of whether or not he’s learned from his mistakes will be to see how he handles himself going forward.

Feel like that needed to be somewhere else as well as I don't know about you guys or others, but I barely use Tumblr now (except for finding sims cc haha). Feel he should've linked to the post on twitter or insta maybe. I guess the ones who would have cared/been bothered the most would find the post anyway though so
