Comparing the AP channel to beauty or gaming youtubers is not a good comparison imo since they are totally different genres of content and the viewership for gaming/beauty is significantly higher than the kind of low-key comedy videos Phil makes.

James Charles is definitely a beauty guru. He might be a beauty guru that occasionally makes different kinds of videos, but he gained his fame for beauty, his sponsorships have to do with beauty and fashion, he has makeup products out, etc.

Phil's views are very stable, and yes very profitable for him. Dan's views are probably still profitable even without putting out new content. If you want to compare Phil to some of his contemporaries check out Zoe and Alfie, or Louise. Or even Joe and Caspar (or, Joe, Caspar hasn't posted in a year) because at a point Joe and Caspar also were British white boys with a shipping fanbase that lived together in London, and Phil does far better than either of them these days. Connor Franta is an American youtuber that was in a popular gay relationship and still does do youtube regularly and his videos frequently don't crack a hundred thousand. I think other genres just surged into prominence on youtube (beauty, gaming) and the normal funny sit down and talk to the camera type of videos no longer all the rage, but that doesn't mean there isn't still an audience for them or value to be found in that audience. Dan and Phil particularly have always had an edge in that they don't just have an audience they have a fandom and fandoms are usually ready to commit with both their hearts and their wallets. There's a reason Youtube still wants to work with Dan.

1:53 - The first game is 'Good Advice, Bad Advice.'
2:12 - The first audio message thanks them for 'all the content.' Dan's responds with, "You're thanking me for forty minutes of content? That is how badly I've treated this, you know, audience. That makes me wonder how many times Dan has had guilt spirals and Phil has reminded him that he is working on things?

The video just hit a million views in 21 hours. That's kind of insane. The last video of his that has over 1m was the glasses video back in 2019.

This makes me sad. Specially since Phil's videos of 2020 were great! I loved them. I understand that some people don't enjoy Phil's content because it's very different from Dan's but it still pisses me off that the fricking gap is there and it's so visible.

I was looking at the comments on the video and saw that the official YouTube account posted this: "Dan + Phil = already making 2021 SO much better"

I'm really intrigued by this whole seemingly very official and formal collaboration happening with Dan and YT.

I don't know if this will count for much but Megancita's comment made me think about potential views for AP coming from YT's social media (like maybe someone expecting something from their favorite creators and running into this...?

I also keep thinking about how Dan did probably mean to be back on youtube by now and how much covid fucked up in that regard. He basically said it in the show: the book was supposed to be the last thing he did, but now that he has two more projects on hold, he'll stop and take a break and think what next after those. So presumably in his original timeline that taking a breath, deciding what next, etc would have been happening around May-June of this year.

Also, what would 2020 have even looked in (phandom wise) if we had gotten those two Dan solo projects? I find it almost impossible to even imagine.

Dizzy's quote reminded me of something I saw on the last thread that made me think of something: I remember seeing people saying -not necessarily here; generally on social- that dnp had so much "free" time between in certain periods of time because a lot of other youtubers upload content daily and they don't. it takes them this amount of time and it's probably easy to live like that and blah blah, you get the gist. And if we think about it, how many projects did they do simultaneously while doing other things? TABINOF, Truth Bombs, II?, the pitching of all the gameshows and travelling show, home renovating show, THE HOME THEY SPENT 3 YEARS DESIGNING, Dan's other 2 projects... It's amazing how many things can be happening in a "public figure" 's life without their audience finding out. Phil's headaches make a lot more sense now that we know 2018 had them doing the liveshows, II, the home renovation, the editing of II.... Wow.


About the bathroom thing, I think if you've lived together with your best friend/soulmate/partner in crime for 10 years in 3 different apartments in the most formative years of your life (ish), specially being both introverts, you have to find a balance. And their relationship points to be really healthy so it makes sense that they have their own separate spaces for some things. Like, maybe somewhere along the way Dan got anxious when Phil left his towel on the floor and all the caps of the shampoos/shower gels opened (we know Phil) and Phil couldn't be bothered to not do that and they decided that having a bathroom each was more comfortable.
I mean, my sister just moved out of my house and the peace that it brought me not to respect our former sharing-a-bathroom rules. I am literally less anxious.

I think the picture did genuinely look pretty good - I mean, I'm not itching for him to dye his hair blonde, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. I also love that we have these little snapshots of how their Christmas went. I'm sure not remotely what they would have wanted it to be, but... damn, man. Them in their little home celebrating and we know the gifts they gave. It's a world away from how shut out we were last year. We wouldn't have even known Dan was on Isle of Man with Phil except for this video messages being done in a different place.

I've been trying to figure out this whole house build timeline and what the different possibilities were. If they originally planned to move into it in 2017, that makes me wonder if the original plan had been to move in and then renovate while they lived there. I also don't quite understand what would have prevented them from doing that.

And then, given the recent construction pic with Phil is a Covid mask, that makes me wonder if what they've been doing the last few years hasn't been construction per se, but just the design and it's only recently that the design was finalized so construction could begin, which would then of course have been slowed down and delayed because of Covid.

I also wonder if they worked directly with an architect or designer or if they holed up with some swanky design software and just plotted out each room themselves. Kudos to them, because that is way way way too many tiny decisions for me and I would have gone the move-in-ready route myself.

I don't know why but I am dying to know what kind of furniture they chose. Just show us your living room, guys, this is all I want.

The timeline is also really interesting to me. From what they said, I interpreted it as, they bought it in 2017 and at one point there was potential that they would be moving into it sometime in the middle of 2018 ("dangerously in the middle of tour) but it didn't happen. Who knows what happened to 2019.
It does confuse me a little bit how they talked about making decisions like electrical placements as if it was fairly recent, because that would've had to happen a good while ago. However it may just have been how they were talking about it that made it seem more recent than it was since this is a long process that they were only just telling us about.
In terms of order construction things need to happen you've got like 3 big stages imo: framing (the interior/base for the walls), plumbing, electrical, then building the walls and floor proper, things like built in cabinetry, etc, and then finishing things i.e. painting. I pegged that picture as summer since Phil is in his shorts and t-shirt and wearing a cloth mask. Nobody was wearing cloth masks before this year (except maybe some people with high air quality sensitivity, but not Phil) It looked to me from the picture like they were somewhere in stage 2, with the walls mostly done, stairs in etc. but no trim or final flooring. With covid delays, who knows where they are now. Dan did say it would still probably be a couple of months before they moved in, I think that's why.

While sometimes it may feel like dnp aren't doing anything because they aren't posting much, they've proved time and time again that they are NEVER not busy. There's just a lot of behind the scenes work that we don't get to see and sometimes don't get to see for a very long time, which makes it hard.

I have noticed something, i tried to post a comment on phil's new video with dan with the word "couple" in it and when i got to my other account and searched the comment in wasn't there. (when i could see other comments who where there next to the one i tried to post) I have then tried to do it more times and apparently my comments won't show up if the word "couple" is in it.
So i used a website to search youtube comments by words to see if it was just me who was delirious/banned from commenting or whatever and when i searched the word "couple" in the comment section of the video, 0 comments showed up. I think it's possible that no one used that word but, what a weird coincidence ? so then i tried with "phan" and 0 comments showed up too. But when i search any other specific word like "lol" or stuff like that, the comments having them show up without a problem.

Is it possible Phil banned those words from the comments section of his video ? Or is it just a coincidence ?

Re: censoring words from YouTube comments

Kay so I’ve gone and searched two other videos. One being stories from the closet 2 and coming out to you. I searched phan, relationship, couple (because I thought these words would be used the most) All of these have multiple comments with these words all showing. Kay so I’ve gone and searched two other videos. One being stories from the closet 2 and coming out to you. I searched phan, relationship, couple (because I thought these words would be used the most) All of these have multiple comments with these words all showing. So either no one has commented any of these on phils new video (which I mean it’s possible) and your comment (TuxedoSam) just didn’t post for some reason like mine. I see everyone talking about him on twitter and i never checked him out. I just did and ... His songs are really not my thing at all. He has similar hair as Dan but i didn't see other similarities. One of these days I'd love to come up with a timeline of their home process. The fact that they were on tour and had concerns about the home (? or moving out of the apartment?) is just wild. I was in the process of looking for my first ever home back in March 2020 and had to cancel everything; I can't imagine this process lasting literal years!

So I had all these Dan and Phil thoughts I wanted to share yesterday but then, you know, yesterday happened.

I'm just gonna try to jump back in though because escapism is good. When they were talking about decorating their place Dan made the comment about them not being extravagant - what do you think they consider extravagant at this point? I think they have lived beneath their means for multiple years but... I feel like some things they're gonna have will seem extravagant to some of us. (I'm not saying that as a negative, just an observation. If I could design my own dream place I'd have some personal extravagances for fucking sure.) I think some kind of cinema room or pull down projection screen is a definite for them. Also, maybe a dedicated place for playing board games. Either an actual gaming table or just a dining table chosen to accommodate gaming too.

If I put myself in D&P's shoes....

First and foremost: GIANT bathtub (perhaps even jacuzzi) to fit the both of them. And I definitely expect them to have a dedicated office and filming space that can house backgrounds, desks, gaming equipment, all of the computers, etc.

Totally agree on a projection screen and the comfiest couch known to man to go right alongside that. I imagine their kitchen will be set up such that you can easily film from the island (sue me for dreaming of baking videos in the future).

And so so so much more but at this point I might be designing their place for them.

Not very extravagant but I'm hoping for some sort of outdoor space with a couple of sun loungers where they can sip cocktails during the one hot week of the year. I also hope they can plant the little red tree they had on the balcony.

A nice guest room which will have a drawer full of toys for when they babysit Freja.

Maybe one of those weird showers that sprays water all angles and has a sauna.

I think the floating stairs themselves are very extravagant and what looked like a two-storey high ceiling in the room behind it. Maybe floor to ceiling windows in that room to accomodate Phil's desire to make every window glass

I'm also guessing two spare bedrooms since this is the forever home? Who knows if kids are part of the plan with the dramatic way they talk about getting a dog but they're still quite young, it only makes sense to draw it into to the plans so they don't need to move again if things change.

They definitely will have two living rooms (filming one and gaming one) and an area for board games.

I think I thought they mentioned a Koi pond and that’s like the next step from Norman but it sounds like a lot of maintenance so idk.

I can definitely see the cherry tree and a Japanese Maple but all I know is that there will be no sunflowers!
