I just went looking for you and had the odd experience of reading through a page, refreshing it, and re-reading the same page with a bunch of comments appearing that hadn't been there before (or rather that were there, then weren't, then were again...) - and not just your comments either.[/offtopic]

As a new-ish person to the phandom, quick question that's been answered before many times I'm sure - a few people mentioned livestreams and the possibility of one happening soon - what time do those usually happen?

Hi long time gg lurker but though I might start occasionally posting here as the community is less intimidating

Hearing of the recent Youtuber breakups (Hangrid, possibly Tronner idk I don't follow them particularly) is another reminder for me as to why Dan and Phil never went and unfortunately likely never will go public; public breakups are messy and stressful, even back in the old days when youtubers were less popular/in the public eye break ups blew into huge things for example I remember Alex Day (sorry to bring him up ) had some bad ones very early on which I feel like might have influenced phan's decision to stay ambiguous (just about.. ) from the start.

Welcome to the forum. Not only Alex, but PJ and Lex Croucher (tyrannosauruslexxx) went out for a year and then broke up, it was pretty much the biggest drama on YouTube in 2010. Lex even wrote a song about him. Another notable messy break-up was Kalel and Anthony, another friend of theirs. I can imagine witnessing this stuff first-hand really put them off coming out publicly (y'know, if they are together.) Also, why do people think Tronnor broke up??

Dan also commented on Charles Trippy and Alli Speed's divorce back when that story broke, didn't he? (Or, non-commented, in that way he has.) Considering he and Phil got to know Charles and Alli during a very formative time in their (duo) youtube days that had to be weird for him to witness as such a spectacle online.

Examples like all these definitely make it easier to understand why Dan and Phil might choose to stay closeted. I think Troye and Connor were trying to take that route and it's actually gotta be easier to just let the idea of something fans never had confirmed fade from view than to have to announce a breakup.

(Not to mention, just announcing your together in the first place invites conversation about when you will break up, and that's gotta be stressful too. Right now it's a question if if they're together but if we knew they were together based on their own declarations, everyone would be looking for signs of a division even more intensely than they are now.)

I agree with you that a lot of young people in non English speaking countries understand English very well and Dan and Phil definitely could (I hope they do) tour some of those countries but I also agree that the English proficiency is a big brake for their tour.
1st understanding a video where you can listen several times, looks into the comments, ask for help... and understanding a live performance show where there is also gonna be a lot of screaming is very different. So some people might already question if it's not better to wait for a recording of it.
2nd you have to have friends 1st who know of Dan and Phil and second who can understand English as well as you do. I know that in my case, I can't think of a friend who could understand their show honestly.
3rd if you are on the younger spectrum, you have to hope your parents understand English or don't mind going to a show where they will understand nothing.
So all those factor do make it more difficult. It's not like a concert where you know the songs already or don't care if you don't understand everything.

First of all, I don't know if I read the tone correcly but if I gave the tone of "ofc everyone can speak english lolz" I'm really sorry! Didn't mean to sound condensing or something. I'm a bit priviledged in the sense that I live in a nordic country and here, people are really good at English.
I'm basing my opinion on the survey and if I remember correctly, they have quite a lot of fans in Europe (and I apologize, my knowledge on these kind of things is mostly just for Europe, I have no idea how many fans they have in for example Asia and South America, nevertheless for the English profiency they have there).
Those are good points, but I'd still say that at least an European tour is not impossible. Probably wouldn't be too long though, since as for the nordic counries a show in Stockholm could make people arrive from several countries. France, Germany also. Just a few shows, and I'm sure the more dedicated fans would show up. If someone is able to follow their vids, the tour show doesn't seem too compicated to follow, even though I'm basing this mostly on the audio track someone provided ages ago.

no no don't worry you didn't sound condescending at all and I agree with you that a western Europe tour would be successful! I was just pointing out some problems fans would have in non-English countries. But that definitely doesn't make it impossible to bring the tour there.

Not many people are that good at English, and it would be very hard to understand what the fuck they're saying live.
And I'm also being a bit selfish, because people here are very very loud (I'm sure some of you must've heard about that lol), and I'm 100% the teenagers would be screaming lots of embarrassing things. It would be the worst.

But yes, I agree that adding subtitles to their videos is a great idea!

I personally (obviously) speak English in an okay manner, although my sentences sometimes are oddly formed as I come from a place with very different grammar rules. However, I'd LOVE to have some English subs, because sometimes I have to re-listen in order to understand dafuq was just said.

See.. I think that if they went to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro it could work. I live in the South, but everytime I go to a international concert I see that most people can understand the artist quite well, and in the case of youtubers, I think that if they watch them, they understand. But like you said: the screaming. That I don't know how it could work lol But I think it's possible. From the little stalking I've done for brazilians in the phandom I noticed most of them are very familiar with the language, and I found there to be a considerate amount of fans from here...

I was lurking on the forum that shall not be named for a long time (I was even registered!), but I've never posted a single thing.

Anyway, giving my two cents about the breakups happening right now...
I think that the situaton is different between D&P and Felix/Marzia compared to the other couples (Hangrid, Tronnor, Zalfie).
Both D&P and Felix/Marzia met in the early days of youtube and went through the "normal couples struggles" together (for instance Felix was travelling to Italy to see Marzia, Dan was travelling to Manchester to see Phil etc).
But the main difference, imo, is given by the fact that they went through the growing fame and the big changes in the youtube community together.

I understand why he didn't do one last week (although everybody else was too nice to bring up that D&P did do a joint liveshow during the time of the Paris attacks, and mentioned it at the start; Dan could have just done that, he didn't need to make some kind of statement or anything). Because he hates them that's why. Did he start cutting them short after he stopped doing the drawing game? Because if so, he was only doing 45 mins of actual liveshow anyway, and then 15 mins of drawing. I guess that's his limit of being able to deal with dumb questions and chat emojis.

if any couple put them off being so out, it would be charlie and stephen (charlieskies and 3sixty5days). they were together from early 2009 (and charlie had other relationships in 2008 ie was never legal and single before dan met phil sorry amazingskies shippers it didn't happen)and had a lot of on and offs until breaking up in early 2010 in an incredibly messy way with charlie punching stephen and breaking his nose. ldr, one relatively young, same gender, veeeery open online (way more than 09 phan) so their messy af breakup is probably a large factor in phan hushing up, especially since it was by mid 2010 that they mostly dropped it and kept it as occasional jokes for another year or so

It seems like forever ago we last had a LS. Low-key hoping but not at all expecting Phil will crash Dans LS tonight, it is... noticeable that he has cut them off at the 45 mins mark recently... Let's hope that Dan will give something away in his live show tonight. I don't even know why I care about this, but apparently I do, so I'm just rolling with it.

I think it might be possible they went to see Phil's family, with the prebanked video they posted (butt chair & a missing sticker on the d vs. p board) and the brebanked tweet Dan made (as they unlikely got the egg in the mail on a Sunday, as HP taught us all) (I'm sounding creepier than I intended to. )
But idk if they'll talk about it, assuming Dan even does a liveshow... Which, if he does, I wonder if Phil comes on since they both missed one.
