I know we apparently don’t recommend edits on here, nor name drop nor even mention much social media by name, but I got to give a shoutout to Eve - her calendar BTS edit on TikTok is MESMERIZING. Everything about it is perfect and rewatchable. Search “ Madam hath thee apple bottom”. It is a catchy combo of visuals and music.

I don't use Tiktok nor do I really understand how it works, but I managed to find it haha. Tiktok might suck me in just for the dnp edits....
More Patreon content is coming, and I haven't even finished the calendar bts yet!!

Also shout-out to Ben the rat for picking the cheese platter and giving Dan the opportunity to be cute af

Question for those more in touch with the broader phandom than I am: does "the philgrimage" consist of just hugging that statue outside Google, or is the idea that other places in the festive ditl should be visited as well? (Not that I am actually in my thirties and considering doing this next time I go to London … not at all …)

I'm hardlaunching that I don't like the audience submitted hardlaunch segment on the phodcast. I tried to give it a chance, I really did. I just don't like it. I don't care what my fellow phans have to say (that's not true... I care what you guys say on idb!! Just not on the podcast hehe). There have been a few that were funny, mostly because of dnp's reaction to it. But mostly they're not funny to me.

I appreciate that dnp are trying to have an audience participation segment that has a layer of protection with the producers choosing the audio. So I propose that instead of random "hardlaunches", listeners can submit audio questions. It keeps the same audience participation and the producers can still choose them ahead of time. Dnp could tell the producers any topics they do not want questions about. I think I would like this better because there are so many questions they could answer. It could be a mix of silly (pinof style) and interesting (eg, what were those random photos doing ordinary tasks like teeth brushing for?). I think that would be interesting!

I feel like it's still different enough from Richard because Richard has 'topics' like 'Australia' rather than questions (or at least has had so far, I believe).

Not that they're going to do my idea (lol) but thoughts?

When I was in London, I did visit places from their original DITL. Places, plural. So I officially declare a philgrimage to consist of visiting several places in their honor and to feel that little tingle of "they were here and I only saw it on aavideo screen before" while doing it.
In my personal experience, fandom-uninformed persons can totally be dragged along.

What do you guys think of the new video?

I like that they're experimenting with the type of content that could appeal to a wider audience (that sensationalists/Mr Beat kind of thing) because the more views for them, the more reliable the possibility of having more regular content from them!

The only thing that made it a bit strange for me is noticing how much I missed BANTER btw them when they cut to their individual 'vlogs'. Or perhaps it was how scripted it sounded from the beginning. They're terrible actors, they know it, we know it, but when they're together at least it's balanced by the potential for un-scripted lines (which happens because Phil cannot follow a script).

So yay for experimenting, going outside and all; fingers crossed for less scripted separated bits

I loved the video, I'm such a fan of any time they go outside and do things. Maybe it's because Hometown Showdown was such an exciting video in the midst of the content drought, maybe it's because they are so silly and happy in this new era. I'm also a sucker for anytime one of them gets something "bad" and the other one is cute and makes up for it. They probably know that we eat that content up, but they've always been sweet like that to each other so I don't think it's purely for views.

Haven't watched the Patreon video yet where they tour the other suite, but I am excited to!

I ordinarily would avoid this kind of video from most creators, but it turned out to be incredibly endearing? Like I have no idea if they set the whole thing up or not, but it's a hell of a metaphor for the experience of getting out of a lifetime of queer trauma, isn't it? Plus Phil getting him out of the box because he didn't want to be alone? Somehow they arranged it so that I actually LIKE the idea that it might have been staged. The Four Seasons isn't relatable, but the metaphor sure is.

Extra funny because I actually think this made a better ad for the capsule hotel. The Four Seasons looks luxurious but I'd never spend that much on going there--but holy shit the capsule looks like a great deal, especially if you're only going back to your hotel to sleep/shower.

I really loved this video. Seeing them working together separately in the beginning was fun but them coming back together in the end was like a full happy ending story. It will be a comfort watch for me going forward for sure.

I definitely feel like it was.. not scripted but planned ahead a bit. But I didn't really mind it tbh, I think it would have been a weaker video if they had actually stayed apart the entire video and they instead got to try out a more interesting concept than just "we go to a fancy hotel together" . The facetime call in particular was like.... boys you cannot act... but I don't think it was "scripted" in the sense that they were reading off any sort of script, more like they had planned ahead of time that this is how it would go.

But like I said, I seriously did not mind or care because the real joy of the video for me was watching them run around the world since those are such fun videos. Also got a kick out of Dan complaining about the "capsule hotel" which was honestly nicer than a lot of hostels ive stayed in while traveling (no triple bunk beds, clean shower stalls, working locks, relative silence?! (worst hostel experience of my life didn't even have lockers. or locks on the doors. guys.)) so I got to interally make fun of him for becoming a bougie old man who has come a long way from his Reading fest piss campground roots.

Anyway. Excited for this new era of whatever random fuckass content they decide we need, since it's all very high effort and funny regardless of what it is! Hoping they go to Manchester next sooooo bad.

I'm feeling genuinely emotional about The Tree 2025. I hope that doesn't sound too insane. I have some thoughts that I've been compiling / pondering for a while. A waffle, if you will.

I don't think I've fully grasped the hard launch yet tbh. I was someone who never thought they would because I didn't think they wanted to. I thought they were perfectly happy with the type of content they were making in the "back from the dead" era. So I was surprised by it (not by them being in a relationship but of the hard launch of it all, as Dan put it!).

What has struck me is the line from their coming out as collaboratively gay video that this is how it always should have been. And seeing them sort of return to their early 2009-2010 selves in some ways is (maybe weirdly) moving to me. Obviously they're older and wiser and all that. But they never in a million years would have posted a video of them decorating their actual tree from say 2012-2024. Now they will again??? It's also aspects of their mannerisms that is reminiscent of the very early days before ... all the shenanigans.

I feel grateful to be trusted.

And I feel like most people would not understand that because they're "just youtubers posting content". But I feel like this is a big deal and it makes me emotional. And maybe idb is a good forum to post about it!

Also their little animal ornaments are so fucking cute. What the hell. I hate them. (I don't).
I'm having a stress.

I’m already dreading the 2 weeks they’re taking off for Christmas break. I’ve gotten so used to so much really satisfying content. But I don’t want them to burn out, so I guess it’s good. I hope we get wdapteo before the break. I know I will rewatch that a million times!

I just saw the Patreon video where they rewatch their first baking video and I can totally see how nostalgic, protecting and loving Phil is about that little Dan in his early 20s, while current-Dan is understandably and clearly done with it. At times even embarrassed  ahah. And that's when you can see how protective and nostalgic Phil is about that Dan because that's the Dan he fell in love with!

Conversely Phil was older and thus closer at the time to who he is now - and I guess also truer to himself and thus more accepting. While Dan was still emerging from his teens, and then - because of the oppression of the internet and being closeted - had to adapt to that pressure in a way that suppressed that silliness of the beginning.

The thing about them not having been to each other's family Christmas on the podcast really got to me. I'm having to do a family Christmas again this year that I never really wanted to do again, but I never liked these things in my family for a reason. But the idea of having a warm, welcoming place that wanted you there and not ever having been able to be there before for sixteen years is just killing me.

Been loving their non-phodcast content lately. I'm someone who never particularly cared for the idea of a podcast (I still watch them—I don't dislike them, but I much more enjoy their other videos) but the phatreon videos have been peak. The Christmas adventure react was so wonderful. They seem so happy these days.

I've been particularly taken aback and pleasantly surprised by Dan's earnestness. It's interesting that this coincides with the hard launch—pre hard launch, Dan was always jokingly insulting Phil and jokingly acting offended at the idea that he might genuinely like Phil, etc. Now he's so frequently completely sincere and kind towards Phil in places where I'm always expecting an insult or something sarcastic to be. It's not like you can't genuinely compliment your platonic best friend. Maybe Dan was worried about how sincere/loving it would come across if he dropped the sarcasm. In any case, I love it, and it's so sweet and cute to see.

Strangely I am also not the biggest fan of the phodcast!

Do you have an idea as to why you don't love them?

For me, I wonder if it is because they sound scripted (or perhaps, 'prompted') as there's a less relaxed vibes compared to Stereo lives, which I go back to. Not sure.

I don't think it's scripted per se, although I'm sure they have an outline or something. But I think this is new terrain for them, right? Like there's one point in the first podcast that I didn't notice until Deep Blue Ink animated it. Phil catches himself as he's about to say something like, "Jesus Christ, <term of endearment>--" and he stops and replaces it with "man". They're used to censoring themselves completely. Now it's like, okay, how do you tell the cute funny stories without accidentally outing Phil's ex's government name or the actual pet names you use at home or generally things you don't want to share? So it's maybe less smooth now because they'd had fifteen years to get used to the old boundaries but these are all new and there's probably ongoing feeling out of where the lines are. They might still not even know where they want some lines to actually be, right?

The first few episodes of any podcast in my experience, especially with new hosts, are always a process of feeling out what it's going to be like and getting into the rhythm of it. Even without that whole element. So I do hope they stick with it, I'd expect it to just get better.

I was never one of the people asking for one in the first place. I don't really care for the podcast format. I'd say that's the main reason. I guess for the phodcast specifically, Dan's new podcast persona is a bit annoying (although I've never particularly liked Dan's "entertainer" personas anyway), and yeah it's all rather artificial compared to a lot of the gaming videos. I'm not properly complaining—there are reasons why the podcast is so highly produced (i.e. avoiding burnout/reducing the work dnp have to do) and I'm not saying they have to do a DIY indie podcast at home. They're capable of making their own creative decisions. Just a consequence of those decisions is that I don't find the content as entertaining.

I think I also just prefer a more "structured activity" so to speak. There's no premise/concept for the podcasts; it's just dnp yapping for [however long they are idk]. Which a lot of people want so good for them. I just prefer if dnp have something they're actually doing, be it a game or baking or some kind of challenge.

I don't hate the podcast and still watch it. I was just never one of the people asking for one and I still don't feel the need to ask for one, like if they stopped doing the podcast tomorrow I wouldn't complain.

I googled that Deep Blue Ink animation and still cannot see that slip up! I guess the one where Dan says 'friendship' and then corrects himself is the one that perfectly illustrates your point nonetheless

Gosh, as someone interested in psychology, I feel like we're sitting on such interesting source of knowledge regarding the new horizons of digital dating and the psychological consequences of homophobia in the digital age etc etc...! Hope one day they write a memoir or something - with a ghost writer that can help them delve into that nuanced experience. I don't see this happening any time soon, of course.

As for What Dan and Phil text each other... has anyone ever questioned the authenticity of the texts? I do not own an iphone so not sure how reliable those screenshots appear. The only thing I knew about screenshots and photoshop manipulations is that you can pixel distortion around the text and that's what seems to be happening here?
