soz for the double post but what made me change my mind about what? whether they're together? if so.... Honestly I have no idea. Like I didn't expect them to appear in front of us holding hands or anything. I guess looking back at it they had this space between them and Dan standing slightly back...it was the furthest away from each other I'd seen them lol but then that could be due to the impromptu situation. I guess in all other instances I've seen Dan gravitate towards Phil in an almost "protect me" style so yeah. It was just different

Somehow this confirmed (to me) their need to ensure they "keep their distance" in any public setting especially amongst fans/strangers. The only times we managed to catch a glimpse of the gravitation are normally in candid videos/photos when they are not aware of being captured in.

I think for me setup meet and greets are fine because my intention in meeting them isn't to feel like I know something special or extra about them, or make any kind of connection. I am awkward, Dan is awkward, but that's exactly why I do like the structured 'I give you money, you give me a few seconds, we both know how this works' arrangement. There is no expectation for me to try and be special or memorable and they understand that what I'm after is a hug and a photo and there won't be any awkward silences or drawing it out. There's no pressure in a cookie cutter situation like that.

This is absolutely personal opinion, by the way, I'm not casting judgement on anyone for how they view these things. For me, the idea of seeing them out on the street or just bumping into them would be a million times more stressful and make me way more anxious. I don't want to interrupt their private time. I don't want to make them uncomfortable or catch them off guard when they aren't prepared to deal with fans. I don't even want to see a split second of wincing on their face as they realize they now have to make small talk (awkwardly, naturally, bc I am shy and quiet) with someone they've never met before and will never meet again or watch them struggle to end the conversation when they'd like to get away but don't want to see rude. I would never want to walk away feeling like I inconvenienced them, and with a meet and greet I've paid for that worry is alleviated.

M & G breakdown: a sentence or two from D and P, a selfie, and a hug, then that's the show.
It's just weird for me because a lot of these youngsters online are making it seem as if the M & G was some sort of life changing and deeply personal experience. I mean it's fine if that's how you feel on that level, it's just for me. But I do like the whole aspect as you put it in regards to meet and greet no connection just sole purpose of meeting, does let go of certain parts of awkward and no weird silence and nervousness. Honestly, I still wouldn't even do M & G. Sure Deppy and Phil hyped up on the fan energy but I'd just find it overwhelming with so many fans there. I mean they must find it overwhelming. Not to mention I'm like three levels about awkward of Dan.

Of course I would love to see the boys either way. I'm fine seeing the boys in something something such as a youtube/social media con/event/gathering and so on. But any time out of that setting I think I would just probably not say anything maybe smile and walk off. It's not only the fact as you stated maybe wasting their personal time but as it was said early Deppy and Phil put on their game face for these M & G. It'd be weird to catch them off guard.

In the future that might change, but for now I’m contend with not meeting them.

I had the opportunity to do the M & G at their show in Cupertino but I passed. Not only of sheer nervousness but I just don't think it's my thing or I'd be content or comfortable with the whole scenario. A lot of fans crowding to see the boys would make me nervous. My opinion may change too. I'm planning on going to vidcon next year and have maybe a slightly slim chance of possibly running into the, Maybe then I'd accidentally run into them and take a quick selfie and have a hug kinda same as the M & G and probably just as quick. Then again as I stated my opinion may change and I might just treat them like two guys at the same con and not even bother.

Yes yes yes yes. When getting VIP tickets to one of their shows was a possibility for me, I considered it and decided that I very much like the idea of the M&G. People criticize dan for being "fake" and having scripted lines like "I like your [insert distinct feature]" and "Would you like me and my massively long arms to take the selfie," but honestly, that puts him at ease and it would put me at ease, too. These interactions are safe and comfortable. Not getting to meet a more laidback dan and phil might put people off from M&G, but that's the exact reason why I, someone who, like alittledizzy, doesn't want to inconvenience them, would prefer them.

Also, I considered the purpose of getting them a gift. There's nothing those boys can't buy themselves, and they receive so many gifts from fans that it hardly makes you stand out anymore, but if I had the opportunity to do a M&G, I'd bring them a gift just to have something to talk around (though it would be a bit more creative than a whisk ). It is a topic of conversation, an opportunity for jokes, and just a way of ensuring there's no awkward pauses or anything.

This is based on my experience of having never met anyone I cared about out on the streets and having met one celebrity (chris colfer) at one of these staged things. I enjoyed my experience, no matter how "inauthentic" Chris' compliments and terms of endearment were. I can believe in the fantasy that it was a unique and special occasion.

i haven't met them and idk if i'd like to, but if i do i'd rather it was a planned m&g. meeting them out of that situation is probably really fun, but i would not know what to do and i'd be relying on their tact to not look like a complete idiot. i can't really speak much at the best of times, but i really struggle with choosing words and actually saying them properly when i'm put on the spot. i'd definitely be happy with the standard responses from them, with the structured 'we can hug and i'll take a photo'. their planned reactions are boring but i like boring in those situations

I like the differing opinions on here, it makes for interesting discussions. As someone who has met them randomly and also at a m&g I personally didn't feel that comfortable at the m&g and I'm not sure I would want to be in that environment again. I'm definitely not trying to be their friend or be any different to other fans, but the whole atmosphere and the way I felt after was just uncomfortable. I'm not interested in an autograph or hug, yes a photo is nice but I am a selfie queen and take photos of everything (just ask Maz and Human about my 170 photos of NYC that was 80% me telling them to get in a photo). I prefer a little chat and want to feel relaxed when doing so and not under pressure to be there just for a minute until the next person has their time. The other thing I enjoyed about the random times is that on two of the occasions it was just them and us, not a group of 50 screaming fans which tbh annoys me (because I don't get the need for screaming and I'm grumpy af). Just incase my post comes across patronising, it's not meant to at all, each to their own of course.

I was with Maz and my opinion of Dan was completely different. Yeah he was much quieter than how he is in videos and at m&g, but I enjoyed that about him (maybe it didn't bother me as I've met him before and he was very similar then too?). I liked that Phil was much more chatty and Dan just chilled. I dunno, different strokes for different folks and all that

I don't really want to meet celebs at all, and that includes D&P. I like them on my screen, not in the outside world lol. So I wouldn't pay money for a meet & greet anyway also because I couldn't justify spending money on meeting people even if I weren't broke, but I also don't think I would walk up to them if I'd see them on the street. I think that if I were to see them in the wild, I'd just kinda observe them until they were out of sight. That'd be enough of a 'fuck they exist that's ridiculous and totally fake my mind is messing with me' moment to last me a lifetime. My friend even teased me about finding them when I'm with her in London this August, and I told her I'd rather have her drown me in the Thames ._.

I even doubt I'd even go to see TATINOF if they come to The Netherlands, but that might have more to do with me really not giving a shit about the whole thing (I'm in the minority now I know). When I saw a illegal spoiler clip from a UK show I literally had to leave the room to compose myself from cringing so hard, and reading people's stories from the show it doesn't sound that enjoyable to me. I'm proud of them and I'm glad people who go see it enjoy it, but nah thanks.

I just wanted to add to my above post, that my meeting them randomly I wouldn't want to "inconvenience" them, as someone above said. My intention is never to make them feel uncomfortable or to stop them going about their normal day, I've never got that impression from them though. I would assume if they didn't want to stop they'd just say hello and carry on walking! I dunno.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I don't think bumping into them randomly is a bad thing, I mean I'm not stopping them and demanding a half hour chat about life. Maybe I'm reading some of the posts in the wrong tone but I kinda feel like meeting them outside m&gs are being frowned upon a little. Sorry if I'm misreading

Oh, I don't mean to say I think meeting dan and phil out and about is actually inconveniencing them. I just meant that because I still think about how someone waited extra-long to hold a door open for me weeks ago, I'm the type of person to misconstrue an encounter with them as me inconveniencing them. But I'm sure, as you say, that they totally make people feel at ease and make them not feel guilty for approaching them. Especially since you actually have had both types of interactions with them, and I've never met a celebrity outside a M&G experience.

Not my intention to disparage meeting dan and phil in informal/casual settings! I would take that over not meeting them for sure :^)

ive never got a relationship vibe off them irl but tbh I've never actively thought about it because (as most people know) I have no opinion on their relationship. I don't care either way if they're together or not, it doesn't affect me in any way. Sorry, I'm not very helpful am I haha

Okay so I just want to make sure that how I described Dan was not me saying he came across uncomfortable.....because he didn't. He came across as quiet and awkward which is basically what he's always described himself as but people haven't ever really seen. The whole thing ended with happy photos and smiles and waves. So I'm sorry if I painted a different kind of picture but people seem to have gotten this "uncomfortable" vibe thing from my post - hell I was uncomfortable not him lol. But I was uncomfortable in how I was coming across....not because of the situation itself.

Basically it happens. They're going to randomly bump into fans - they do quite frequently recently it seems (at airports, baseball games, in London) it happens so yes they are used to it. I think the only difference with what happened with us is that we aren't their "typical fans" so didn't react in the way they may be used to. Again this is all my opinion but hey I was there so it's what I got from it.

But seriously to everyone don't let this out you off any form of meeting them - whether you choose to pay for a m&g, go to a book signing, randomly bump into them....whatever. dont be afraid to talk to them about your dogs or how they saved your life or the freaking weather if that's what you feel comfortable with because it's just a chat. A two minute chat that they probably won't remember later on that day but they will know that you will remember it. It's just a moment so yeah no feeling bad about how it occurred

I feel like Dan is likely to be more awkward with the likes of us in IDB because we're, for the most part, a much more similar age to him and/or Phil than the majority of fans he meets.

I may be the only one who feels like this, but I get way more conscious of how I'm perceived when I deem the perceiver to be similar to me. A peer, I suppose. Like I don't feel awkward getting road rage at someone much older or younger, but if I noticed I've just raged at some other person in their twenties I'm like

and its very hard to explain why. Similar to having a colleague of the same level looking at my work, rather than someone more junior or more senior.

With someone more junior (or in this case younger) I feel I can rely on my higher experience levels to give myself confidence in what I'm doing. With someone more senior (or older, or of a professional nature when it comes to ), I hope they won't judge me because they were in my position once and they're maybe wiser and recognise the experience gap between us.

But when its someone I see as similar to me, I'm way more reserved and conscious of how I'm coming across. Does that make sense in any way?

So he can be the older senpai to his younger fans, and a cute little munchkin to older fans, but how does he act for fans who are just like him? People who he's potentially be friends with if he wasn't danisnotonfire. It leaves him more vulnerable because there's nothing to hide behind. So I don't blame him in the slightest for being awkward because people like us essentially pull of his mask. And for someone who makes a living from being in almost complete control of what they show of themselves (not to start the persona debate) that must be quite scary. Particularly if you're not hugely confident in your real self.

Just adding my 2 cents in about whether or not I would want to meet dp IRL and for me the answer is no.

I feel like the typical relationship between a youtuber and a viewer is one of voyeurism, right? I watch them do whatever they’re doing and they don’t know I exist in a sense. I’m just a number on their view count (I never comment on or like videos).

In my perspective/for me personally/ to meet them IRL in any way, shape or form would humanise them in a way that would then personally make it weird for me to then watch them through a screen iykwim.

What missemma said about inconveniencing them if you meet them out and about, I remember a clip of a girl saying hi when she saw them walking in front of her in the street and Dan said "thanks for saying hi" and another time Phil said to come up and say hello, certainly as opposed to staring at them from a distance.

Just adding my little two cents before the subject changes. Thanks for your post Mazza, and everyone else who chimed in, all of them were informative and just rly eloquently written idk. I know everyone says this but all of you put my feelings into words, in a scarily accurate way sometimes, so thanks.
Anyway, I personally would not want to talk to them in public because I would be afraid of them just walking away from me or pushing me away (which they have every right to do.) I would feel horrible if I said hi to them and they were busy, not just for their sake but for mine. I'd be crushed. So, I don't want to risk it... If I ever see them in public it will be alright for me to admire them from afar.
I know I will still be incredibly anxious when I go to the M&G, but it will be mostly because of the screaming and big crowds. At least I will know that deppy are DEFINITELY okay with me being there, and I won't be turned away or ignored when I say hi etc. I can see why people have differing opinions on which they would rather go to, but I don't think that either situation is bad, inconsiderate, or fake.

Just changing the subject completely (sorry), I noticed on social media tonight one of the people who has been roped into helping for the merch put how much they were being paid per hour to help. I'm not gonna link to the account because #lurkers but I'm surprised there werrnt "rules" given to the people who seem to be employed at each venue about what they should be posted online. I know payments aren't a big deal, I just assumed that these people were just gonna be volunteers more so than receive an actual payment. I'm so naive when it comes to business.

I am quite surprised there were no rules given to each employee at each venue. If we are going by branding and recognition of the specific venue, it does not look that good if an employee is going online and speaking about the wages they receive.
Usually workplaces would have a policy about what is acceptable to put on social media accounts (fb, twitter, tumblr, etc.) in addition some workplaces do have other policies about the company 'itself'. Since the employees can greatly affect how the outlook is on their company. I'm surprised the person even posted that at all.

I haven't bought one myself, but I've read people on here saying that the backpack is sturdy, so go for it! I haven't read anything about the sweater though.

My two cents on the possibility of meeting : I'd definitely like to meet them, and I would be fine with going to a M&G if it weren't for the fact that I think theirs is too sterile and short, though I would consider attending if they came to my country because the chances of them coming here are very slim. You only get like one minute and most of that is spent having them sign your book and taking a selfie (btw, seeing as it's an official M&G and it's not cheap, I wonder if it was too much trouble having a professional photographer with the proper equipment to take the pictures. They could at least have paid Drake more and have him take the pictures lol). I really get wanting to be in control of a situation (I'm like that), but I think there's room for improvement.
I've met a band three times (well, twice, but I met the lead singer three times) in non-M&G settings and the first time it was a bit awkward with one of them but the rest was lovely and each time we had a chat and they, especially the lead singer, were really nice and genuine. I know it wouldn't be the same with , but it showed me that you can have a nice exchange in a short time and have it not be so, let's say, automatic.
