Hi, saw about this site by reading on the comments. Thank you everyone that worked for this.
Loved the video, as everyone was saying, they seemed to enjoy it. I especially loved when at the end Phil seemed to be really into it, don't forget the cilli bang and Dan wanting to strangle Phil for not discussing things with him first.
Regarding fanservice: the majority of the times I don't see it; but I think that in the Phandom is disliked because people want to see them and their relationship not something like a "present" to them. For example I read that ages ago for a fundraising? event Tyler promised a kiss with Troye, they delivered it and people were happy; now I think that if D&P did something even smaller than that yes some people will be overjoyed but others will be pissed. Their fans want to see D&P in their natural habitat, this could probably came also from their history.
Still don't think that there's going to be a ls but as someone that wants to dream, I would love even a short one in which they cooked something (also just saw Dan's ls were he cooked "lazy green curry").
Lastly( I promise): I found strange to not see Dan congratulate Phil on the internet...I know that they probably celebrated but for two people that know they game why not put also something on twitter?

Agreed, this was odd even for them. they've never been hugely into showmanship/professionalism/keeping up appearances in the way other Youtubers play the game, and people really like and hold on to this for the most part, it's seen as still being 'old school youtube'. but, 10 years is hard to ignore. yet they let it go by with the least amount of fanfare as possible. i can't help but think there was an ulterior motive for that. what, i don't know.corn flakes wrote:Lastly( I promise): I found strange to not see Dan congratulate Phil on the internet...I know that they probably celebrated but for two people that know they game why not put also something on twitter?

So happy everyone is slowly finding their way here!
i really liked the gaming video mainly because of how annoyed they got but i really hope they aren't going to make it a series. its fun for once but not more than that.

I think they (and the Phandom) made a bigger deal back in January. Maybe they thought it would be odd after that to then make a big deal of 10 years since his first video vlog.zeemeermin wrote:Agreed, this was odd even for them. they've never been hugely into showmanship/professionalism/keeping up appearances in the way other Youtubers play the game, and people really like and hold on to this for the most part, it's seen as still being 'old school youtube'. but, 10 years is hard to ignore. yet they let it go by with the least amount of fanfare as possible. i can't help but think there was an ulterior motive for that. what, i don't know.corn flakes wrote:Lastly( I promise): I found strange to not see Dan congratulate Phil on the internet...I know that they probably celebrated but for two people that know they game why not put also something on twitter?
See what happens if there's a LS tonight.

Wow, this place really took off overnight!
I wasn't a huge fan of the new gaming video, but I did enjoy the fact that Dan started off quite cocky and loud and started to quieten down as it became apparent Phil was pwning the quiz. Poor Dan ahaha. I do adore him so, don't get me wrong. I just enjoy seeing him challenged because he's a pretty intelligent guy and Phil just did so well.
Dan going to strangle Phil for me was a pretty genuine moment though lol I loved that. Phil grabbing his thumb like a baby might, pretty amusing. Kinda makes me wonder if tickle fights are a thing after all... just going to leave that thought there.
But ultimately, fanservice is usually ok by me so long as it's funny. If it's really forced, like someone trying to make fetch happen, then just no. I remember Gabby trying to make people want to ship her and Evan for instance. It's not going to happen. But phan is a pretty well known ship, they provide plenty of content which doesn't accommodate it and a few little teasing moments here and there on purpose don't irritate me at all. It does intrigue me, but that's another post altogether lol.

This is tricky, because some of it seems contrived but some isn't. I think when Phil went to his mind palace or whatever (lordy knows what else he does there), I think he had a thought that it would be cute and viewers would love it if he slapped Dan's temples. But I didn't think the "don't bang me" was contrived until he said those words. I actually think Phil is a bit more fanservicery than Dan, because he has this shroud of innocence and knows he can get away with it; I'm not easily fooled by him though. Dan doesn't seem to offer up as much, probably because his mind is usually in a dirtier place anyway, but he's the one who will usually make something really innocent sound really dirty and sometimes I'm like, yeah nobody else actually went there except you Dan. He seems so aware of every possible phrase or insinuation that could be about him and Phil being involved lol it's hilarious.pixlexia wrote:I'm beginning to wonder what parts are fanservice and what's just them being comfortable interacting on camera. If it's fanservice, it makes me a bit sad, just because I want everything to be genuine, which is why these days anytime there's an innuendo or maybe they grab hands I'm thinking "is this natural or are you playing this up on purpose?" Hm. :

I think the gaming vid is good. The first thing that make me raised my eyebrow is the return of the butt chair, then I quickly glance at Dan vs Phil board at the back and went 'oh, it has begun'.
I think it's nice that we see Phil monopolising (is that a word?) the game for once. Love all the sherlock reference. Maybe what Phil does when he's 15 is daydreaming about being sherlock. i love sherlock
I think it's nice we are able to see phil being clever, at least cleverer than me when I did the quiz the first time. Haha. I would love to see them attemp to finish the game one more time, but that's it. It won't be funny anymore afterwards. If they intend to make it a series, they should play the second quiz or whatever, not just attempting the first one over and over again.
Side note: we need an offtopic button. Lol. What if when gg come back online, our post are gone because we all got banned at the end? Also, I have no clue about building a website but is it possible to make the forum mobile friendly? I don't mind, honestly because I can tilt my mobile screen (or wear my specs) to see better, just asking.
Massive thanks to jhamba and all other staffs for a new bants cave. (bat cave, bants cave. No? I'll see myself out)

Guys a question; especially to the mods and admins, can we publicise this forum and encourage D&P viewers to come over or is this only by invitation.
I better ask before I start "post messages" around

not a mod - but when it was being created, discussion was all directed towards it being public and accessible for everyone. separation from the reputation of GG in the phandom was even considered a motivating factor, if that was what was holding some people back/encouraging lurking.
definitely everyone advertise wherever you like, it's not supposed to be exclusive. until GG goes back up people will only be able to find it through word of mouth (and the link left in the comments section).

I believe that is the best course of action, because we could get banned otherwise or the page can get "blacklisted" for that matter. I sure hope mods/admins don't read PMs there...Lari wrote:if i remember correctly the plan was sending a few pm's to invite gg members but i'm not suresweetmm wrote:Guys a question; especially to the mods and admins, can we publicise this forum and encourage D&P viewers to come over or is this only by invitation.

Still. Real reason for the server switch confirmed... They've got a lot of editing/deleting/banning to be getting on with
That's twice in 24 hrs I've had a full-emotional-spectrum response to a D/P tweet. I got very excited last night when Dan posted the video, then confused when it was a DAPG video, then exasperated when I saw (and assumed the worst for) a flash game. Suppose that shows I shouldn't automatically assume the worst. Then just now, when Phil's tweet appeared with a sliver of "something" on the bottom edge of my screen thought for one glorious shining moment that it was the baking video. Nope. GIF. Cute GIF, but still.
What are they doing to meeeeeeeeee?!

I was watching some old gaming videos when I came across this cute little domestic snippet

This has nothing to do with anything being discussed and you've probably all seen this moment before, but I have no one else to share it with

Same girl, It's nice to see a different side of Phil, and he got really excited as well which we do not see often these days. I'm not sure this video is persona-heavy or not, they seemed they were genuinely just trying to answer the questions. Which is a good thing, because a lot of DAPG LP makes me feel like they are just aimless and overly relying on the bants. *cough* the sims *cough*
As for fan service? Not really? Except the "don't bang me" bit, but other than that all their conversation seems very natural.

I thought it was cunt too, because of how casually Dan said it.
Also, in regards to sharing the link for the forum around, I can't see it being a big issue, but let's just wait a little bit longer so we can tweak the site and get it completely ready! Once it's ready we can let you know and you guys can spread the word.

IDK exactly, but some of the subforums on there are truly toxic. There's more than a few "Gropecunt"s in the UK - apparently it's where the ladies of negotiable affection used to ply their trade... Our ancestors just didn't give any fucks, did they?!

Happy Easter everyone!! Oh wow, I'm happy to see how active this forum is. you made it, jhambs. you finally have your own cult lmao
I'm really liking the fanservice discussion. Because yes, you're right somelikeitpink, inherently, fanservice isn't a bad thing.
In big industries like movie and TV, the makers show us (the consumers) through fanservice that they care about their fans and listen to their wishes. Yay! Good thing. Now, YouTube isn't a big, mainstream industry. No, scratch that, it is but it hasn't always been and that, as meerms already said, is the problem: We don't watch YouTube to see fictional characters that are (hopefully) written the way we want them to. We watch YouTube to see real people do real things and share their real lives with us.
Thus, fanservice shouldn't exist on YouTube. But we all know that the times of teenagers complaining about school in front of a webcam are long gone. Youtube is a media of its own and fanservice on YouTube is very real. A lot of people aren't happy with the commercialization of Youtube and especially fans of Deppy (ngl, me included sometimes) like to pretend that D&P are better than the rest of the industry. But they're not and obvious (and even worse hidden, less obvious) fanservice proves that.
In conclusion: fanservice = commercialization = bad.
Now that we've established that fanservice does indeed very much exist on YT, you can apply the basic system of fanservice to it.
(which I just totally came up with lmao)
I think you can basically boil it down to two kinds of fanservice:
Type A) the creators of the medium see that certain parts of their product are especially well received (and other's less) and give their fans more of what they like and less of what they don't but don't shift their overall focus too much
TV Show Example: The producers of the show notice that minor character A is really popular with the fans. Meanwhile, minor character B isn't very well liked.
They give minor character A a more important role in the overall story and give minor character B less screen time and/or try to make the character more likable.
Type B) the creators of the medium see that certain parts of their product are better liked than others and go out of their way to please the fans, even if it means other aspects of their product will suffer
TV Show Example: The producers of the show notice that minor character A is really popular with the fans. Meanwhile, minor character B isn't very well liked.
They promote minor character A to main character and give them their own story arc. Minor character B gets put on a bus or killed off.
The difference seems small but especially the creator's intentions behind the fanservice really make a big difference on the long run.
Now, we have to try sorting certain Phanservice moments into group A) and group B). The problem here is that very often, we don't know what's actually fanservice and what's not. Still, I think there are some moments you can definitely identify as kind B) fanservice.
One example that comes to mind here (and you can gladly argue with me about this - this theory is nowhere near foolproof) is Dan in bunny suit and flower crown during the Easter baking video. Especially by wearing the flower crown he was clearly trying to appeal to their flower-crown-loving tumblr audience. this post makes me feel like one of those conspiracy theorists lol. oh well.
Overall, his behaviour during the video was imo pretty hyper and he behaved more like his sometimes very loud DINOF persona than the "real" Dan (who, I'm sure, can be just as lively but probably not for the uncut entirety of a baking video). Back when the video came out, I remember we all agreed it was pretty phanservice-y in general - on top of what I already listed, Dan also fed Phil, gave the camera that one look and Phil, too, was pretty AP-like and "quirky". So they both went out of their way to make the video more interesting and more appealing - especially for their main crowd, which is mostly based on Tumblr and - surprise - mainly consists of shippers.
Type A) fanservice is a lot harder to point out because we don't actually know how Deppy behave in private and thus often don't recognize how and when the lines between script and reality begin to blur.
Type A) fanservice could be anything from Dan looking at Phil a certain way, to Phil touching Dan's arm, to a joke/sentence not being cut from a video. Things that also fall in this category are, imo, videos like DITL, Just Dance and Reacting to Baby Videos, some of the stuff on Danisnotinteresting and LessAmazingPhil. D&P know what their audience likes - be it real, non-scripted D&P interaction (DITL/LAP/DINI), certain video games (Just Dance) or simple things like baby photos/videos (the "Reacting" videos + TABINOF, which imo contained a lot of Type A) fanservice in general). They deliver.
So, now we have to ask ourselves "is Phanservice bad?".
I'd like to say no but actually, it's not that easy. I like moments that could be considered "phan proof" but I don't like to be deceived I also don't like obvious, often clumsy, Type A) fanservice - especially since, unlike Jaspar &co, Deppy never point out the ridiculousness of that kind of fanservice.
So no Phanservice at all? But then, if we suddenly took every bit of Phanservice out of their videos, what would be left?
How different would their videos be?
We don't know. I don't know.
I spent more than an hour writing this but look at me, I now have even more questions than I had in the beginning. /sighs/
Deppy, you're lucky you're so cute.
... and holyy crap, this post got way too long. I need to get out and gain some perspective™

Ah it means that, i thought it means "middle aged nose perverts", which I was about to go "nose pervert and proud"IckleMissMayhem wrote:IDK exactly, but some of the subforums on there are truly toxic. definitely everyone advertise wherever you like, it's not supposed to be exclusive. until GG goes back up people will only be able to find it through word of mouth (and the link left in the comments section).
reputation of GG?
There's more than a few "Gropecunt"s in the UK - apparently it's where the ladies of negotiable affection used to ply their trade... Our ancestors just didn't give any fucks, did they?!Anyway. (Early Ex-British American settlers were clearly just homesick when it came to naming settlements.)
Mods/Admins - is it possible to get a "like post/thanks" thing on here? also an "off-topic" edity button thing? If so, pretty please?
