Dan & Phil Part 13: So Bored That This Is Our Thread Name
Yeah, I think you are missing something. I mean, I only skim-read the whole conversation but there were definitely at least two people who literally stated that "we checked out" most probably meant the whole group and it's a normal thing to say.fancybum wrote: Am I missing all the irony?
nevermind, I need a nap
About the water bottle I'm not so sure, more people seemed to get excited about that but I do think Ticia (possibly, sorry if not) had mentioned that it in fact means very little So I think people did try to keep it somewhat cool.
So yeah, you probably do need a nap
I am so happy to just have a video. Dan has been talking about making this for like at least a year so it's good he has got that out of his system so come on Dan just keep on making videos you want.
I appreciate the sketches and I he did make me laugh a couple times. I don't know why but knowing that Phil helps him film makes my heart happy.
Sorry I can't write more my break is over butt....
I cannot wait til tomorrow I will finally get to see tatinof.
love and hugs.

Re check-out thingy: it was just me seeing an opportunity to be phan trash and taking it. Hence the use of . Nothing too serious to read into that.
i have no idea what my 2016 signature actually meant so now you’re just getting this
Thanks, this is what I wanted to say.shikaritrash wrote:Finally some content i thought it was pretty good. I liked the editing and thought he put lots of effort into it. I liked the fact that it was in a different environment as well but don't have much to say towards the actual content cause I can't relate to it anymore and I thought it was a bit generic.
Also, by looking at the background you can see that everything is neatly organized to look casual (the headphones, DS, gator girls hat) so I think the water bottle's not that important.
Someone mentioned an Obama card, but it looks like someone else, not him. I see a woman, then the notebook and probably the key card?

Dan's video: not the best and not gonna rewatch it but I liked it. He gave basic advice but you can never hear it too much times, (not one of those that reviews till 2 and the wakes up at 5
).
Yes to what it's already been said about the nail polish thing.
Also, maybe I'm reading too much in nothing, but what's is with Dan's pose in his banner and in the recent m&g photos? is it some sort of meme?

Re: Sleeping Order
In DITL's & Sleepless Night, Phil is always on the left side of the bed. (From camera perspective.) Always assumed that's how he usually sleeps. Dan varies - he was left on this one and the anime one and DITL London, right in DITL Manchester & I Can't Sleep (his bed was against the wall at that point, the left would be hard to access). All over the place in How to Get Out of Bed. This seems like something someone would've already compiled.
Totally not the kind of thing I ever ponder, obviously.
The thing beside the notebook by the tv looks like the standard HBO/Showtime booklet that is in every US hotel room ever.

It surely is a Obama poster parody, but there are too many out in the Internet so...is there any American fellow familiar with the image? I put off watching this video for more than one hour and I totally don't regret it. It was really 'meh' and so average that if it wasn't for the drop the bass part (which made me laugh too much for being so terrible that it was actually entertaining) I would have forgotten the video already.
But eh, I guess he warned us all how it was going to go?! I can't be that mad, then. And like others said, I just wish he would try the relatable thing with subjects that are actually relatable for him. At least it would feel more real. But what do I know, right... The younger people watching him probably appreciated the video and it maybe helped them, so you do you Dan.
Also, bring on the #bedgate

I'm a little late but...I have to agree with those saying they found the humour a bit forced in Dan's new video.
Agreed. Don't forget the Johnlock reference lol. I distinctly remember him saying that he doesn't even ship it.greatnessflicker wrote:the gator girl hat in the background. he knows what we want.
edit: it is almost painful how hard he's trying to be relatable, what with the snapchat story and neko atsume notifications when he said he doesn't want to get a snapchat and gave up on neko atsume after a week. plus the captain america reference when I don't recall him being a big fan of it?

I have a theory that Dan either personally does ship Johnlock and Stucky, or (mistakenly? based on the response here) thinks that his fans would. A lot of Johnlock fans/writers migrated over to Stucky fandom after CA:WS came out, and I believe it's in part because they both have in common the fact that the main pairing are best friends (emotionally, but also professionally, and mythically in the sense of being remembered in the history books for it).
I can see Dan being attracted to that type of pairing for obvious reasons, or thinking his fans would share these ships if they like Phan. Making Johnlock references may be cringeworthy in the sense that they're not a 'trendy' pairing anymore, so then why make them unless he actually wants to? He spends enough time on Tumblr to know what's up, and could easily pick a more tween reference (Malec sigh) if he wanted to please that audience. Both Johnlock and Stucky fandoms trend towards a more mature audience, IMO.

Also, I kinda wanted to ask something / pitch an idea to the people who felt like the video was too forced / generic:
-you guys still get excited about any video they post? If yes what are those, are they recent? If not do you think they changed or what?
-I really didn't expect that much from a tour video so I was pleasantly surprised by it, but reading some comments I felt the vibe of 'expected too much and left with less than that' that happens to me too much when I hype a movie I want to watch and end up really disappointed only to later rewatch it and realize it isn't as bad as I thought, I just hyped it too much in my head.
-I always feel kinda 'meh' about the whole 'I'll make a relatable video to get subs/views' but I don't think it's a sin, it's how youtube works, really. how you guys view that?
Honest no hate here , just want to start a conversation and I'm curious as heck to understand this side of feelings

trying to make his life relatable is becoming every second more difficult and forced and i don't enjoy it at all, but his personality is still relatable, if he made videos about stuff that is relevant to his life right now i would enjoy it more in a 'lol same, if i was a famous youtuber' way

I'd be more impressed by Dan's subscriber count if he'd be able to get half of them to watch his videos. He barely breaks the 2 millions views atm, so I'm excited to see what his new video does considering it's been a while that he's made a relatable sketch video for teens (the anime video doesn't count, that's a bit too niche) and it could potentially attract a new horde of 14 year olds to his channel. He isn't gonna get them with outdated Sherlock references though.
Phil's subscriber number don't nearly match his views either. Now this isn't a rare thing among YouTubers, but it's usually time to start worrying if your subs grow (or worse; stabilize...which is kinda what Phil's sub count is doing I think?) but your views decrease. Phil's video CREEPY DOLL WATCHES ME SLEEP still hasn't broken 1m views. I dunno what's going with that one, did people hate it that much or are the views frozen? His video with Louise and Dan has broken 1m, but I'm a bit concerned about whether he's only able to get good views when someone else (mostly Dan) is featured. Doesn't look good for potential advertisers either. Phil has lasted on the platform far longer than many others and I hope he'll be able to go on for mant more years, but if I were Phil I'd start worrying rn. Dan might want that rebranding, Phil NEEDS it.

Hey! This is my first post in the main thread!
I like that Dan gave us new content finally, but I'm kinda disappointed in it. Ignoring the fact that it doesn't apply to his life, it just wasn't up to his usual standards. My favorite part was when he broke from the sketch and confessed that he had nothing to fall back on if his current career falls through. It was a little too real, (not funny like it was meant to be, imo) which was nice to see after such a weak persona performance. I don't mind the Big Brother persona, but it's weird to see after not watching his videos for a couple years. Even back then a lot of his viewers were younger than him, but he'd act like they were sat at the same table and making conversation, and not him being the older brother who offers to take his younger siblings out for a meal.
And I think that's what makes his current vids feel different from his 2011-2013 vids. Besides the fact that he does less comedy skits, he seems to be playing towards the young tumblr fans he already has instead of making videos in things he's interested in that they also happen to be interested in. I think it makes sense that he's growing his channel to continue catering to his current young audience as he ages, but I wish he would occasionally do vids about navigating life in your twenties. I know I watched a lot of videos about your twenties as a teen and enjoyed them, so I'm sure his audience would do the same.

I get far less excited about forced jokes than I do gaming videos where there's casual banter and they're being themselves. For a little while I stopped watching Dan alltogether because his content was getting meh, however I continued to watch and enjoy the gaming channel. I just prefer youtubers to be themselves rather than a character, just me.LurkingTrash wrote: Also, I kinda wanted to ask something / pitch an idea to the people who felt like the video was too forced / generic:

I didn't hype this one up much and I was actually a little happily surprised by it, in other words it exceeded my expectations slightly so good job DanLurkingTrash wrote:-I really didn't expect that much from a tour video so I was pleasantly surprised by it, but reading some comments I felt the vibe of 'expected too much and left with less than that' that happens to me too much when I hype a movie I want to watch and end up really disappointed only to later rewatch it and realize it isn't as bad as I thought, I just hyped it too much in my head.
The problem, as fakelights stated, is that Dan is trying to be relateable with topics he knows nothing about lol. I noticed that shortly after the time that Phil uploaded his CREEPY DOLL WATCHES ME SLEEP, youtube views froze for a while, and I'm pretty sure they were never properly reset. If you look at a few other big channels, they too have a dip in video views from the videos uploaded around the same time.Catallena wrote: Phil's subscriber number don't nearly match his views either. For having around 3 millions subs Phil actually does quite well, with almost all his videos hitting the 1 million mark within a month. Many channels with the same amount or even higher subs get less views than that, so no reason to panic just yet.
Even though there are plenty of (better) topics he could've selected for a video, it's been nagging me a bit that many of you seem to consider him completely unfit to give study advice just because he dropped out: he's lacking 3 years of University, but that's it. Maybe I misunderstood your message thougheevee wrote:The problem, as fakelights stated, is that Dan is trying to be relateable with topics he knows nothing about lol. You're right maybe saying he knows NOTHING about it was a little harsh but the point still stands that he's no longer going through tests and therefore it's hard to be relateable. It'd make more sense to say he's trying to be a big brother figure but that's veryTicia wrote:Even though there are plenty of (better) topics he could've selected for a video, it's been nagging me a bit that many of you seem to consider him completely unfit to give study advice just because he dropped out: he's lacking 3 years of University, but that's it. Talking for myself here, but this is definitely not what I meant. His studying advice was quite good and probably usefull for most people. What I meant with making relatable content that is relatable for him was about approaching things from his perspective at this stage of his life, what he is actually experiencing at this moment in timeTicia wrote:Even though there are plenty of (better) topics he could've selected for a video, it's been nagging me a bit that many of you seem to consider him completely unfit to give study advice just because he dropped out: he's lacking 3 years of University, but that's it. Literally a minute after I posted, I noticed that a musicvideo I was watching that also had it's views frozen (which is why I asked about Phil's video) was uploaded on the same day. Something hit a button at YouTube HQ on the 24th of April and nobody has been bothered enough to fix it. I hope something is still counting views over there, otherwise that could have significant effect on some people's paychecks.SquishPhan wrote:I noticed that shortly after the time that Phil uploaded his CREEPY DOLL WATCHES ME SLEEP, youtube views froze for a while, and I'm pretty sure they were never properly reset. And yeah here's indeed no reason to panic yet, but there's no time to get comfortable either. I've said it before, but they need to focus on YouTube again before they actually lose popularity.
