ehh, they've used the term before as shorthand for "dan and phil." It is the "is real" that follows it that is annoying.

the problem, among other points, is that the people who decided to use the term to classify an entire field of study were a couple of privileged academics. calling it "queer theory" wasn't an act of reclaiming the term from a majority of the community.
I'm not saying I know what other word can be used to refer to the entire community, nor do I care to police people who self-identify as it. I just think there's still a lot of issues surrounding this term and the institutionalization of it doesn't change that.
(other problems include that the term is still used as a pejorative in many parts of the world/older groups of people, as Dan's eurovision tweet demonstrated.)

even if it has gained a lot of mainstream usage, qu**r still has its negative connotations and meanings and no amount of mainstream usage or normalization can change the meaning of the word really, it's still derogatory. i respect people using it as a personal label but when it's used as an umbrella term (i've seen it used towards other members of the board and i don't know whether you guys all have consent using the q slur to label each other otherwise i feel uncomfortable), it essentially forces a derogatory term on the community.
to bring this back to dnp, that's why i heavily dislike the word being used towards them. they have neither expressed that they've wanted to be labeled qu**r y'know.
i apologize if i'm being a bother, i just have such strong feelings towards the word, it's just i can't expect to really have a positive outlook on the word with the connotations and meanings and there's the fact that it's been used on me negatively quite a few times.

Just because the term is used a lot doesn't make it okay. I'm not saying people can't reclaim it for themselves but when someone expresses discomfort with being called a slur (and yes it is very much a slur that is still used that way today) it shouldn't be dismissed that easily.

On here we've already figured out they had adjoining rooms with two beds, but not everyone is as dedicated to stalking as we are, so they wouldn't know that. I feel like I've fell through a wormhole and landed in a different fandom. I'm pleasantly surprised.
