Dan's reply style almost makes me think he did want a physical offering but was given that response himself. Annoyed sarcasm. Maybe they couldn't work out the deal they wanted. But I'm probably just reading into it the way I want, because I'm anti renting videos by the month.

I hope it'll be brought up in a ls if we ever get one.

I almost dread the next livestream because I think it will overwhelming be fielding questions about tours/the video and I know that Dan will either throw out vague responses he moves on quickly from or else more annoyed sarcasm that helps no one since he can't/won't be honest about the reasoning behind some of their choices. If being honest is a bad PR move or a little too 'behind the curtain' then I'd rather he just ignore the questions all together. When asked about a physical copy he could have just answered with a "No, it'll only be on YTR" instead of trying to be cute and coming off as patronizing instead.

Since this made top of the page, let me add some positivity: I really hope Dan and Phil sleep half the day and then drag themselves out of bed and manage to post something cute at some point. I think we could all use a little bit of something to smile about right now.

I've got to say, I'm pretty underwhelmed about not waking up to a bunch of after-party pics and tweets. Where the hell was everybody damn. Mimei's pics were cute though. While I'm excited about their panel tomorrow about uploading their first videos, I kind of want them to get on a plane immediately and go home. Do you think they'll gtfo right after vidcon is done?

Nobody knows if TATINOF will be offered as a direct download, or can only be streamed. My strategy would be to use a free / $0.99 trial offer to stream it, then purchase it outright if I liked it (who am I kidding?) and it was available to download. Alternately, I'd subscribe for one month for the $9.99, watch the TATINOF video, then cancel before it renews - there just isn't enough quality exclusive content to justify a continuing subscription when I can watch every I want for free on regular YT.

Just had a look on Lily's (Superwoman) channel and her tour video is £5.99 (don't ask me how much that is anywhere else with the worthless pound )
So I am guessing it will probably be the same amount for Tatinof as it more like a movie than Felix or MatPat Ytr which is a series of individual episodes (each episode £1.89)

That was they can win favor from phandom and also #spon the new documentary. Also DP are very aware of their audience and so far I've seen negative reactions. So to lessen the blow they will release some all inclusive free footage (kind of like the making of video for TABINOF)

I'm confused about the red vlogging camera... to my knowledge they retired that thing in 2012 when they got a new one specially for the London DITL (lol remember when they bribed us with a DITL so we would vote for them to win that Radio Academy Award... sneaky manipulative bastards) and they've used that ever since. You can see a black camera in some mirror shots in Japan DITL. Why use the broken old red camera in the USA? Or did they buy another new camera that happens to be red? Waste of money, they never vlog :')

I'm a bit suspicious about the deal they cut with YouTube - I'm now thinking that they signed over the video rights to the TATINOF show performance for YouTube to exclusively exploit in any form, in perpetuity, in exchange for paying for the production services and possibly the rental of the Dolby Theater. Of course, D&P probably got a fee upfront, and will get a per view (or per sale) royalty on top of that. Nothing wrong with the deal at all, except that they lose control over the distribution of the product - which means no physical copy unless YouTube decides to publish it at some point.

I get that it's big and ideal for filming, but I'm sure it's also massively expensive to rent out and that there are many big venues where you can film in LA for far cheaper than the theater that hosts the damn Oscars (I'm assuming it's expensive as hell anyway). So YouTube renting it out as part of the deal doesn't seem far fetched to me at all, especially for a second show that they must've known wouldn't be fully booked.

Almost can't believe the only thing we got from the post TATINOF party was Phil's shoes (and the two pics Mimei posted bless her who needs Cat or Louise right?) but I'm not even that surprised at their lack of sharing anymore.

I'm thinking that there may be another "wrap" party at some point. Wrap parties for movies / episodic tv tend not to be on the last day of production (although there is an awesome crew "lunch" and generous "crafty" food served throughout the last day.) Theatre shows / performances might be different though, I don't have direct experience with those types of shows (except in HS when I was our school theater's TD.) Anyway, everybody was probably pretty tired after two performances and the added stress of the tv taping, so maybe the afterparty was more subdued? Or maybe phones were banned? IDK...

If you go to the American Google play store and search up the YouTube red originals. It will just say "add to wish list" no buy option. Unless Dan and Phil work something out with YouTube to make it available to buy, no one in the countries that have it will be able to own a copy, "legally" that is. It's streaming only.
Edit: YouTube red is still new so I'm kinda hoping that between now and then this will change. So this doesn't mean it won't be able to buy then.

^ This is what makes me sad about the whole thing. I personally think YTR is totally legit and is great for the creators who get involved and that it does a lot of great things for Youtube. The reason I'm a bit pissy (but maybe only about 20% pissy honestly) is that I want to be able to have an actual copy for myself. I don't want to use my trial to be able to watch it for the month and then never see it again. Not to mention I would only be able to watch it when I have an internet connection, which, when internet is unavailable is primarily the time I actually turn to watching films and stuff (I don't know why, but I'm really not much of a TV or movie person. )

This is one of the only reasons I wanted/expected a DVD, because A) I understand it sounds pointless but I do like the tangible copy, it's a lot easier to take with you places/go shove in your friend's DVD player, and B) I also just expected the case design and possible inside booklet to be cute .


TDLR; YTR is great but I'm sad that I can't have a forever-copy, physical OR digital.

Honestly, I'm close to being done with deppy. The alternative ending to the phanfiction took their shipbaiting to a whole another level. 'Open wide for captain Lester' but they had two rooms in their bus. If they are not together, this whole game they started to play like two years ago would make me actually dislike them a lot. To be honest, I don't know how people who think they are not together watch them anymore. I know there is a fine line between fanservice and shipbaiting, but I can't see this as anything else but the latter (not just that they changed the ending of the segment, but the whole segment itself).

And i will never understand this argument. The shipping was a HUGE part of the phandom way before they started to acknowledge it and do fanservice. I'd side-eye them if they practically made this ship up and tried to promote it with fanservice, but instead they tried to stop it for years, before they finally let go a little and accepted the inevitable.
We know they are very in touch with the phandom. They can't celebrate the phandom without acknowledging the shipping, it would be the elephant in the room.
The only argument i would agree with is if you think they tried to shipbait with all they did in 2009.
And also, for what feels like the 100th time, i don't like to categorize couple vs friendship behaviour, because i don't like to tell people how they should behave as to not "give anyone the wrong idea", but i know nobody cares

agreed, I'm all about calling out shipbaiting (don't get me started on calling it queerbaiting bc I just can't find that anywhere and I see no argumentos for that) but from all that I've seen/read I would classify it as an unavoidable part of their thing that's better acknowledged this way than not at all, I really don't think it steps over the line at shipbaiting.
I mean, c'mom, they have let us in enough about their political views to know that they are feminists and they keep in touch with it, I hardly believe they would just do something like that for the fame/money, I don't believe they are horrible people (and I know that there's the tiniest possibility that I'm deluded but I really hope I'm never proved wrong on this but I firmly believe I'm not).
