trashqueen killin' it. i couldn't agree more.
it all boils down to the fact that hundreds of us are on a forum literally dedicated to 2 human beings. that alone means that conversation will move, and often times fast, to the over-analytical. regardless of how much you want to call it out, you're reading it and probably finding some joy out of it or you wouldn't be here wanting to discuss every minute detail of a tweet... or the way dan smirked in that 2 second clip... or why phil stumbled over his words when answering that question. none of us are happy to just watch the videos they post and move on.
this is literally what this forum is and i wouldn't begrudge dan or phil for being uncomfortable with it. (though, i do hope that if they keep up, they take away the constructive criticism and not just the fanaticism.)
all of it's creepy. we're all creepy. welcome to the internet, you brought yourself here.

i... did you read my entire post or just the parts you wanted to respond to? i think it's pretty obvious that my overall message was, to quote rizzo, this:spaceguitar wrote: What makes you think the same people praising busgate are the ones criticizing it now. And yeah discussing their address is creepy af. Where is the disagreement here?
You can say that bus gate did no harm but that doesn't mean it didn't seem kinda creepy
Also don't think people discuss their sex lives too much but that is still different than stalking/ sherlocking.
what makes me think there was people that were okay with busgate that are now critizing it is simply the fact there's way more people mentioning it as a bad thing now that there was back when it happenedrizzo wrote: all of it's creepy. we're all creepy. welcome to the internet, you brought yourself here.
and we must be reading different forums, because i'm pretty sure our number one bingo board topic is whether their relationship is sexual or platonic?
Dan Howell wrote:'[someone] just sent me a message saying 'Phil'..... same'
This sounds entirely different to me than what timtam just described. The parts of it that I read here and there didn't sound any more or less problematic to me than the kinds of speculation we all usually do anyway - hence my original post.trashqueen wrote:for god's sake, this again?, no one rang the bus company, someone used the contact part of their website to ask if they had buses with two bedrooms to which they obviously said no, as you could easily see on their website, it just confirmed what we already knew and they didn't ask for dan and phil especially, jeez, stop blowing things out of proportion
it also rubs me the wrong way how when people were investigating busgate y'all were like 'omg praise the idb sherlocks', and even the ones who stayed quiet were reading it all, guess your moral high ground isn't really that high
and apparently busgate is also to blame for them possibly disliking idb? because apparently reading the fucking sticker their bus had that said the bus company's name from picture someone else took while sitting at home on the opposite side of the world is next level stalking, a lot worse than people discussing how easy is to find their address and how dangerous that was while they were in america, or posting the name of the hotel they were staying at in la //while they were still there//, maybe i'm crazy but if i was deppy that would concern me more than people trying to find a bus layout
oh and also discussing their sex lives isn't invasive at all obviously
tl,dr: yeah i agree they wouldn't really like idb (i think they would be kinda proud it exists tho, and i think most of the criticism comes from a good place and could be useful to them), but jesus christ stop demonizing certain aspects of the conversation while completely ignoring other topics that are equally or more invasive

I'm a bit offended by this since I was the one that brought busgate up.trashqueen wrote:for god's sake, this again?, no one rang the bus company, someone used the contact part of their website to ask if they had buses with two bedrooms to which they obviously said no, as you could easily see on their website, it just confirmed what we already knew and they didn't ask for dan and phil especially, jeez, stop blowing things out of proportion
I never said they asked for Dan and Phil's bus especially. I'm allowed to find it a bit uncomfortable that people go to these kind of lengths to get information. I never said that anyone one should stop doing those things I was just voicing an opinion. And people were talking about giving the bus company a call but because I stopped reading after that I'm sorry for assuming that people did.
Actually I never praised anyone for finding information as far as I remember and I actually didn't read anything about busgate once I decided I was uncomfortable with it. I might skim past it to get to stuff I want to read though. I do the same with discussing their hotels. So please don't make assumptions about my morals.trashqueen wrote: it also rubs me the wrong way how when people were investigating busgate y'all were like 'omg praise the idb sherlocks', and even the ones who stayed quiet were reading it all, guess your moral high ground isn't really that high
I just used it as a recent example why they might not be keen on idb. Not the sole reason. I don't like either of those other things you mentioned and some times I do get uncomfortable with the chat about sexuality. I would like to speak up about how some of these things make me uncomfortable but at the same time I respect every ones choice to chat about these things. I usually just ignore things I don't like so that everyone can just enjoy their discussions that I do like. But can you blame people for not wanting to speak up because I said something this time and basically got told I was being ridiculous and being selective about my complaints so whatever.trashqueen wrote: and apparently busgate is also to blame for them possibly disliking idb? because apparently reading the fucking sticker their bus had that said the bus company's name from picture someone else took while sitting at home on the opposite side of the world is next level stalking, a lot worse than people discussing how easy is to find their address and how dangerous that was while they were in america, or posting the name of the hotel they were staying at in la //while they were still there//, maybe i'm crazy but if i was deppy that would concern me more than people trying to find a bus layout

This is basically what I was trying to say. I don't think it does any harm but I'm allowed to find certain aspects of busgate, hotelgate whatever uncomfortable. As i've said I'm not going to stop anyone from discussing anything. I'm just going to go back to ignoring things I don't like from now on.spaceguitar wrote: You can say that bus gate did no harm but that doesn't mean it didn't seem kinda creepy
I didn't mean to make this such a thing. I do like this forum. If I didn't I wouldn't be here.

I see both sides of "IDB, would they love it or hate it?" Maybe a little of both??
I have a question: Do you think IDB would survive long-term and have the same level of participation/passion if ever came out as a couple clarified their relationship? I'm sure it would be crazy for a while, but would it last? I wonder to what extent "the mystery" keeps us hooked.

What goes around, comes around

in a very late response, i just wanna say how dan's roast and his following LS have humanized him for me more than anything else he's ever done. it's so easy to see him (and phil) as characters or as the built-up, larger than life people the phandom turns them into. even taking into account their flaws and hypocrisies (as we often do here), they all slide easily into the narrative we and other viewers craft around dan and phil/who they are/what they represent. bc at the end of the day we only know them as who they are in relation to us. so, it's easy to forget that they are two humans that we'll never actually know.
dan acknowledging things he has never really touched on was huge for me. him actually saying the word sexuality and stating flat-out that he actively keeps things blurry was surreal. it's nothing new for us, no, since it's the #1 topic among fans. BUT, it is entirely new to hear the words we say all the time coming out of his own mouth. there's a lot of 'we know that he knows that we know' situations with dan but the thing we know often gets haru'd by him and we don't even question that bc it's the norm.
he acknowledged his white privilege, he actually acknowledged that he's got a posh voice and even included a snippet of his "IM NOT POSH!A111!" vid to acknowledge that he's a hypocrite. he acknowledged that most of his fame is due to phan the ship and that he's a half-assed youtuber who without that ship would be pretty irrelevant. he acknowledged the hypocrisy of his veganism, that he deletes things from his past (not something he's ever really spoken to, just silently done), that he disappointed his family.... these kinds of admissions are sorta monumental. and sure, none of these are new subjects to us. BUT, they are new subjects coming from him! the diss tract proved that he's a person who actively reflects on his past, thinks very deliberately about his current actions, and is super self-aware. it was really vulnerable. and then to hear in the liveshow how scared he was about uploading it, that he almost did an ISG instead, that it was all very real... it's just never been more apparent to me that he's a breathing, thinking, sensitive person.
busgate:
as someone who was vocally against the more intensive side of busgate at the time and thought it was way OTT, i figured i ought to reiterate what timtam is saying and what i said back then. i'm certain that at least one user called a bus company to find out bus configurations, came back to proudly report about that, and was greeted with applause from other users. did they ask specifically about dan and phil's bus? no. did they call in order to try and specifically figure out dan and phil's bus with whatever information they gleaned? yes. did that intervene in someone's work day (in however small or insignificant of a way) to fulfill a frenzied quest of whether or not dan and phil were sharing a bed on the bus? yes. i think that's creepy and invasive. the company's a third party who never asked to receive baseless inquiries in order to play part in a fandom's detective-work, and that shouldn't happen just bc somebody did business with dan and phil. it reminds me of fans contacting people at the Houston Space Station trying to figure out who dan's tour guide was so they could determine the gender of whoever he called cute. i think that's weird and inappropriate. those people were just doing their jobs, they shouldn't have to field questions from fans. i'm not blowing anything out of proportion and i don't think timtam was either. as they said, we are allowed this opinion. i wish we could stop demonizing one another, especially out of what seems like aggressive self-defense in some cases.

busgate is so boring to me like I feel like I'm a pretty intense fan of dan and phil but i cannot be bothered analysing the shit out of their bus to work out if they were sleeping together. but this is typical of me because i want full blown phan-is-real proof like an engagement, not something-that-may-slightly-indicate-phan-is-real-but-could-also-be-interpreted-as-platonic-proof

i'm rewatching dan's collabs with tyler oakley (as one does..... or is it just me) and i've realized it's almost august, deppy are going on tour, and as far as we know they didn't film anything with tyler when they were in america
idk if he's even doing auguest this year but i'm sad we're (apparently) not getting our yearly tyler/dan collab, specially now that dan is out as not straight on his main channel, i was so here for seeing those videos become progressively gayer 3 years in a row

So Phil tweeted this And I am just wondering if we have any plant expert here who can tell what's going on. Does the mushroom living off the houseplant and the houseplant gonna die soon because of it??
Also, low key-ing wish Team Instinct have a big personality who can be our smol bean Spark but we only have Alfie. Sigh. But Zapdos can knock out both Articuno and Moltress in one go so go Team Instinct.

It happens to my mum's houseplants ocassionaly (she's much bigger houseplant addict and actually takes very good care of them so they grow and thrive and stuff so we have exactly 47 of them in our house) and I can say two things about mushrooms happening:
1) they spread and you never know where the fuck did they come from originally so I don't think he should keep them there unless he wants mushroom fest
2) idk about that specific mushroom, but the one's we get are harmless, just look weird.
3) they usually happen bcz the plant clay had accidentaly some mushroom spores in it, so I wonder if he moved it recently or how tf did he get the mushrooms.
Also yessss! Team Mystic ftw!

Me too, it's been on my mind way more than it should since the liveshow. Can only hope he's looking after himself between filming, editing and everything else he's keeping up with. I remember hearing of a musical theatre performer covering a role while they themselves had to run offstage and be sick a few times, but that was Cats and so that guy was pretty damn fit. I wonder if the guys have had training in how to support their voices properly, but even so I doubt that has much, if any, bearing on doing it all with pneumonia hanging onsunday wrote:Same I'm worried about him. More from me for chloek88's post. The huge amount of jokey self-deprecation he did in the ls to pull back from all the praise or whatever brought it home to me rather than the roast itself, tbh, I was just in raptures with how well he did it.
I don't know enough about Pokémon Go to know the differences between the teams, but if they'd gone for different ones, that could've been the ultimate Dan vs Phil. They can do more/better together than apart, though, I guess. Wouldn't want to split up the dream team, that could be really painful on the hips.

Yes let's talk about houseplants
If there are any random damp areas of the house they could get mushrooms there too. If it is near the bathroom, and on carpet if not properly ventilated (after some steamy showers) they could grow in the carpet. Because of how mushrooms reproduce they could get mushrooms all over the house really. It is an old building so you never know how the humidity is taken care of there. It most likely would be drafty as well. Closets, corners of the hallway, front entry, wherever moisture and spores collect and something to root into (carpet, soil, fibrous material *cough*the potato sack sweater, you know anything that the mushrooms could get hold of). They wouldn't do anything to the plant itself, and are harmless really. Although if they let them go crazy in the house it could be bad for their heath (respiratory) if they have a problem with mold or fungus, since spores travel through the air. Maybe that is why Dan is still sick, he has mushrooms growing in his lungs? (kidding) Although if he does have a problem with fungus having mushrooms grow in the house isn't super for him. They sound small enough, that they wouldn't do much. though so I am sure that's not it obviously.
