Lol ugh.

You answered yourself. If it's about the power dynamic it's probably subconscious because he gets nervous. Leveling the playing field so the other person is uncomfortable too is his instinctual reaction to being uncomfortable.spaceguitar wrote:Such an interesting phenomenon that daphenaxa brought up about Phil saying uncomfortable things whne he is uncomfortable/under pressure. It does make me uncomfortable. You are seriously making me wonder if this is a power dynamic.
The only thing I would do to assuage the sociopath theories is say that Phil gets very nervous in some social situations. I don't think that this is a sociopath characteristic.
Mostly I'm wondering if this is accurate. I'm wondering if he actually executes this action, which I take it you are saying is a power dynamic- i think I agree with that.spider wrote:You answered yourself. jfc I hope no one is serious about that.timtam wrote:I liked the crafts video - it made me laugh out loud several times! Imagine all the glitter everywhere though I just finished work where I cleaned up sand off the floor for ages from 'sand art' so I can imagine this would be even worse
When they are like combining the glitter and stamping the page with their hands (i have no idea how to describe that better) you can see Dan start to smile a bit and you can see him thinking 'what the hell are we doing'. While Phil is just calm and collected the whole way through. I love art teacher Phil.
PS. I can't tell if you guys are actually serious or not about Phil being a sociopath...
THANK YOU thank you thank you so much for this. I have a lot of thoughts about Phil buy somehow all clogged in my mind, but you just made me see things more clear!!!alittledizzy wrote:It's mid workday for me so this will not actually be an essay, but the bullet points of it: I think Phil is really good at analyzing situations and has a pretty keen business oriented mind, which means at some point fairly early on in his and Dan's rise he was clever enough to note what was making other youtubers popular and realize that his sense of humor fit into much more of a niche than a mainstream appeal. But I think he also realized that collaborations with Dan did have that mainstream appeal, because Dan - for all that he was drawn to Phil's weirdness - is just not weird in the same way and he tempers that in Phil.
So Phil seems to have taken the things that fans responsed to most when he was with Dan and rebranded (*heh crafts) AmazingPhil with that in mind, years and years ago. People respond to quirky-sidekick, they respond to his optimism in the face of Dan's existential crisis persona. Phil is the guy who reads Stephen King and horror movies, who made dark/psychotic horror videos for fun, who won a game of Cards Against Humanity against a room full of youtubers - I think his non-persona humor is a lot more close to Dan's persona-humor and it would be a really weird balance for them to be too similar on camera. I think people be unsettled by too much of that. Right now the gaming videos are sort of a halfway limbo point but it only works when Dan meets him halfway by being less dinof, too. People don't like it when things stay the same for too long, but they're also terrified of too much change.
And as for as AmazingPhil solo: I think he just knows that he can't be more of himself on camera and retain the audience, and I think he's right. I think the real Phil would be too random, too odd, too weird in a not polished way that people would expect from him. He's not quite good enough to be famous for being offbeat but he's too offbeat to be mainstream while still acting himself. People want him to be sunshine and sweetness with an occasional innuendo, they just want to believe more that it's real. I don't think he will outright rebrand unless he leaves youtube, I just think he'll (eventually) tone down the parts of the AP schtick that seem too obvious and hope people are happy with that.
Also I was going to talk about this but then I never really got around to that point and I need to get back to work, but I love it so I'm sticking it here anyway.

Oh my god I'm laughing. We all know the phandom as an entity is annoying ( know it! everybody knows it!) But you know what else is annoying? Complaining about how annoying the phandom is. I think my last post on gg was wondering about how embarrassed tend to be by their fans and the comment spamming, but now I'm wondering if like it.blueapple_x wrote: Lol ugh.
I wonder if D+P partially did it to troll other youtubers too. Do you guys think they expected this to happen (the annoying trolling in the comment section of the most unrelated videos ever?)
Considering Dan cares so much about what people think of him, I'm kind of surprised he didn't think/doesn't care that his subscribers are annoying the rest of the youtube community (which includes people he looks up to).

Wow, you think Phil's creepy in the vday video? I don't get that impression at all, he's just not 'AmazingPhil' in it - quieter, shyer, more contemplative. Nothing like today's prank video, imo. The only thing they have in common is that neither of them is AmazingPhil-persona.spaceguitar wrote:This is random and controversial, but this type of prank almost makes me think the vday vid could've been a prank. i was thingking this too! dnp already knows how overused the craft jokes are. even the phandom are tired of it. the only ones who aren't are either very new, or they enjoy annoying people with it. conclusion: they enjoy annoying other youtubers with their own phandom.fancybum wrote:Oh my god I'm laughing. Having their fans spam other youtubers (and most of them have undoubtedly mocked the phandom because who hasn't tbh) is a stealth way to establish dominance.
"Yeah our fans are annoying, so what? Complain about it all you want but you'll never inspire such widespread cultish devotion."
Like they know it's annoying, but they also appreciate it and kind of wear it as a badge of honour (laughing about spamming Nick Jonas comes to mind; also apologizing for 'Don't cry, craft' in his meme video but still with a glimmer of pride? maybe?). Dan is a self-proclaimed cult leader after all and understands how his cult operates...
Therefore...
Dan & Phil are using the phandom to wee all over the fire hydrant that is YouTube.
Mark that territory, boys! Mark it good mark those videos just like you should. My wee my wee my wee and my wee-- I'm sorry
Yup, new headcanon, I don't care about reality anymore. Does this add to the psycho theories? Also thank you for giving us back the emojis that Twitter so cruelly ripped from our outstretched hands.
Okay, good point. Yeah, I don't think he's that creepy- definitely not the same kind of creepy. It's just kind of an eerie video, idk.alittledizzy wrote:Wow, you think Phil's creepy in the vday video? I think the vday video just has potential to seem strange to watch because it's not for us. If that were a video someone you made loved about you referencing shared memories you had together, it wouldn't seem as eerie. (The general 'you' - not just you specifically.)spaceguitar wrote:Okay, good point. Yeah, I don't think he's that creepy- definitely not the same kind of creepy. rvgue wrote:also saw the dan/malteasers gif a bunch on tumblr today, it cracked me up so hard i went looking for which video it comes from but ????? i'd love to know the context behind that tbh
I totally agree.daphenaxa wrote:Dan didn't draw the pictures in the vday video. If you compare Phil's drawing in his "draw my life" it's the exact same as in voldy. also Phil is not creepy (?!!) in it, he is like the sweetest ever. I personally don't think he is that creepy in the craft vid either. For me it's obviously an act, as in it is made clear it's an act.
Ok, cool, I got very confused w/ the phan v. antiphan evidence. Also, it is safe to assume that I'm playing devil's advocate when I question phan .daphenaxa wrote:Dan didn't draw the pictures in the vday video. and for the person who asked, yeah I was joking about him being a psychopath. (or was I ? )
<-- this is great
