also I saw YouTubers talking this morning about the YT creator summit here in London today? Isn't that usually in New York? Do we know if DnP are going? And I thought they already had it this year so I'm confused.

Oooh, I like that boxset for the books, I'm a sucker for something different like that. Shame it isn't in the UK amazon store as yet. I'm a fakephan as I haven't even ordered dapgo yet (waiting for amazon to drop the price a bit further).

I was just looking on Amazon though and the book description made me forever cringe;
"Dan Howell and Phil Lester, avoiders of human contact and direct sunlight, actually went outside."
Maybe that should say avoiders of human contact unless of course you're willing to pay £40 and then they will happily meet you for a few seconds.

I still wish they were avoiding human contact in Europe though (sorry, I will stop moaning about it eventually).

Oooh, I still haven't don't have a physical copy of tabinof (#fakefan) or ordered dapgo, so would buy that boxset if the shipping weren't a killer (like always). Googling 'dan and phil box set' gives me a Penguin Random House link that sends me to several different sites, but I think they're all overseas.

I do wish they'd say something about the European tour, though. Even just a 'sorry, we tried our best but couldn't make it happen' would be appreciated.

i might buy the boxset bc i never bought tabinof, i found it on a website here so yay free shipping and at the moment the price is lower than i expected tbh, depends on if i feel like i have money for it though

and did i just check spotify, which i never use, just to check what he's listened to? yes. i wish you could see how much though, if it's something he's really listened to or like a couple of random songs. you know, for science or whatever.

Edit: I forgot to mention he has most recently been listening to lullaby versions of Adele songs. So. There's that.
You literally read my mind because I was just about to come over here and say this. I fangirl out whenever either of them talk music and yeah, seeing his recently-listened to artists is a fun thing to analyze. Especially when it's baby lullabyes.

Also am I wrong but was he always "Daniel" Howell? Wasn't he "Dan" at first?

Anyways here's some screenshots

He made an R1 playlist and shared it from this account. Might not be his real personal one but judging by the recently listened to I'd venture it could be.

edit: can we also talk about how he is only following 20 people and one of them is Dolly Parton and that's amazing
Some of these artists are so weird to imagine Dan listening to. I was actually crying with laughter when I saw Thurl Ravenscroft.
But yea I'm glad I found someone who fangirls over their music like I do
I suspect it is his real account and he forgot to put it on "private session" last time he logged in. I just wanna hear the story behind the lullabies....

He's complained before about Phil using his spotify account - maybe Phil never remembers to put it on private and what we're looking at is mostly Phil's music choices, which just happen to overlap partially with Dan's bc they are basically one person.

Wow so much has happened that I literally couldn't keep up. I haven't watched the last two liveshows and kind of have no idea what is really happening.
Overall view- I've enjoyed all recent videos, aided by the fact that they have been so frequent. I'm looking forward to the two Youtube Red videos. I really enjoyed TATINOF so I'm looking forward to being able to revisit it :D

[offtopic]Does anyone know if you can buy youtube red original content as a movie in a country where youtube red is available. Tbh I'd rather pay $30 for the two movies I want to see rather than subscribe to something with 'benefits' I dont want or need because at least then I can rewatch them at my leisure. Is this too much to ask youtube [/offtopic]

As far as I can gather if you are in a country where YTR is available then you won't be able to pay separately for the two movies, instead you'll have to subscribe to YTR to download it. I could be wrong though as I don't really understand the ins and outs of it because I haven't really looked into it. I hope someone replies and says that is wrong because I really won't be paying a monthly subscription, I was hoping that I could get the free YT trial, pay for tatinof/documentary and then cancel my subscription and still be able to re-watch as much as I want. I was informed that once you cancel the subscription you cannot re-watch what you've downloaded (like Netflix) which is going to be pretty crap if it's true.

Re Dan's spotify - the what he's listening to has only recently become available because I checked like last month and couldn't see anything. I've been following him on Spotify since 2014 and have always been curious to see what he has been listening too. The lullaby thing is funny, I recently discovered the My Chemical Romance lullaby album on Spotify, always good for when you can't sleep 8-) Definitely agree that it could be Phil using his account though.

Me too, I think they should change it so we can just buy it as a stand alone product without the monthly subscription part wherever we live.

I wonder if you could fool Youtube into thinking you're in a country where there's no YTR so you can just buy it like a regular movie? I'm not sure if simply changing your IP would work or if you'd need to re-region your harddrive. I'm sure someone will figure it out. But perhaps that's an option. Also, people who buy it and can watch it whenever, I wonder if it turns into a file that you save on your computer or remains on youtube? if it becomes a file then it'll be really easy to distribute me thinks.

Really surprised by the amount of people who want to buy the box set!!

I forgot about this. I thought the same thing. When they talked about the crew I was thinking how it must have been strange, they don't really hang out with "dude" guys too much really.I am reminded of when Dan went to 1D with the Gleamers. he seemed out of place with the guys. I also thought, "how many of the crew wondered about their relationship." I'm happy they had a good time with them. It amuses me to think of them hanging out with bros for a few weeks. It did make me wonder about Aus. though. Are his observations true to an extent, or was it just because he hung around with bros the entire time? I don't have any real knowledge of Australian culture.
Man I wish I had time to watch the liveshow but i won't before the weekend - just wanted to interject that yes, the culture is incredibly machismo here. but maybe in a subtler expression than other countries? we're just less expressive in general. at university, one of my entire classes was on the australian archetype and it's foundation (much like the American Hero national identity, stiff upper-lip British, blah blah) and why it is deeply entrenched in masculine ideals (for both men and women).

we also don't have equal rights here so i think among a tech crew that has probably done many gigs in the arts they wouldn't necessarily be an oddity, but very broadly speaking it's unusual for straight males to have non-straight friends. there tends to be a met-me-at-my-level type interaction, especially in group situations, and especially among but not limited to only blue collar workers. Maybe... the interesting part is that some of the music is DEFINITELY Dan music and then there's weird children's music mixed in

I'm so annoyed cause I happened to be in the UK for this season of BBO and I got SO into it like you have no idea (Selasi should obviously win why is this even a question) and then I left before the second episode aired I am still salty to this day

yeah I know I can watch online but I'm trying to convince my mum to watch it with me since I saw the first episode with her and she's being grumpy like "no I'm not interested tbh" like don't you HATE it when you want to share something you like with people you care about and they just don't give a shit? :sideeye:

I just read that the Mary Berry is quiting the GBBO as well
There goes all my intentions and motivation to keep watching the show next year (I mean I don't even have channel 4)
But I agree with John Whittingdale: "It's one of those shows that is very heavily dependent on the character of the presenters. If you take those things away, you're not left with much other than, I suppose, a tent and a few ovens." :(

But one thing I found interesting about this article was the following mention:
"Channel 4 will begin airing the programme in 2017, starting with a celebrity special in aid of Stand Up To Cancer."

What do you guys reckon? Do you think Dan and Phil might be involved due to their previous baking vids etc as it is a "celebrity" special and Channel 4 wants to target the young audience 14-35?

I'd like to hear your theories if any. I'd definitely watch the celeb special if they were involved

BTW anyone have a feeling that the reason why they talked about new york is that they are going to be on a late night talk show for youtube red?

A creator store is opening in London on Sept 26th that allows fans to see youtube merch in person before they buy it. It will include D+P merch.

http://teneightymagazine.com/2016/09/22 ... in-london/
TenEightyMagazine wrote:According to YouTube, the Creator Space will be an exclusive place for viewers to “try on that awesome T-shirt you only saw online; buy a gamer’s poster or one of Zoella’s fragrances; get a copy of the latest book by your favourite creator, and even meet them in person!”

The Creator Store will also be home to book signings or demonstrations when new products are released, and a place where creators can learn more about merchandising.
Dan said they probably wouldn't do book signings for DAPGO but maybe they'll end up doing something with this creator store? If not then the only other thing I can think of at the moment is them doing some type of bundle giveaway.

”How close did you find Australia was to Britain?” Geographically? Or, like, societally? Because geographically it’s literally the furthest place away from Britain. Erm – similarly – yeah it was quite similar. They, like, get irony and sarcasm. It was quite chill. Road signs, driving on the correct side of the road, I mean it’s all there.

I found Australia had a very masculine … gender-role-y … country. In the UK it’s not like our male role-models are particularly strong. You know, British role models tend to be sarcastic people and thinkers, and Steven Fry or whatever, whereas I feel like Australian role models traditionally are quite like “I punched a crocodile”. Or not quite, that was incredibly offensive. But I did get the impression that it was more like, y’know like, “I’m the man, nhug!”

“can you say happy birthday to Katie?” Happy late Birthday Katie, aka Latie!
“when’s the next Undertale?” *starts talking about plan for Undertale week*

I'd love it if he had heard that, they really do deserve to know how much they help people with things like that. Does anything about what he said make you think he had?
akui wrote:BTW anyone have a feeling that the reason why they talked about new york is that they are going to be on a late night talk show for youtube red?
That's an interesting theory. Lilly Singh was on several daytime talk shows and on Tonight with Jimmy Fallon. We do have daytime shows they could be on in the UK, and they did BBC Breakfast for the book and tour. Maybe yt wants them to promote the yt red films with talk show appearances in both the UK and US for maximum exposure. I'm not convinced that more exposure beyond their current audience would get them many more views. I certainly don't think that someone who's new to youtube and sees for the first time on a talk show would decide subscribe to youtube red specifically in order to watch TATINOF.

Sorry this is off topic but I just noticed something (that some of you may or may not have been aware of before me you probably already know and have discussed so sorry in advance)

So I've been doing some sketching and doodling tonight and put on some of D&Ps videos on in the background. Cringe Attack came on, and because I was sort of distracted and not really watching that closely, at the 'stealing the pokemon card' sketch of the video, I heard the route 1 music from the games in the background, which in itself I don't remember being in the video before. So I looked up and the whole scene was greyscale with a sort of blur effect around the edges. And i swear for the life of me I don't remember it being like that before? I thought it was full colour?

I mean there are memes taken from that point in the video which are in colour -
Image
And this is how the same part looked when I just watched it -
Image
Nothing very groundbreaking (sorry to disappoint) but it just got me wondering:
a) at what point did Dan make this edit?
b)It must have been at least a year after he posted it to make the change, given that I've watched this video a few times over the years since its upload - so why would Dan suddenly change an old video? Maybe he was just bored and had an idea but if this has been discussed before can someone please enlighten me?

Sorry, can you tell I'm bored tonight?

I'm super bored, so while i was taking some personality test, i started to wonder what deppy's personalities are out of the 16 types.

See 16 types here. https://www.16personalities.com/personality-types

To me Dan seems like a INTJ, the “ARCHITECT”. Imaginative and strategic thinkers, with a plan for everything.

And Phil is INFJ, the “ADVOCATE”. Quiet and mystical, yet very inspiring and tireless idealists.

What do you guys think? (also what's your type?)

Edit: on a second thought, they could be more perceiving than judging, which make them the logician and the mediator
