really surprised only dizzy wrote about Dan's comment on gender roles in Australia, there was nothing on this topic in the ls before that, so must've been a strong impression, although I ask myself if it wasn't due to the fact that they spent more time with the crew in Australia
I forgot about this. I thought the same thing. When they talked about the crew I was thinking how it must have been strange, they don't really hang out with "dude" guys too much really.I am reminded of when Dan went to 1D with the Gleamers. he seemed out of place with the guys. I also thought, "how many of the crew wondered about their relationship." I'm happy they had a good time with them. It amuses me to think of them hanging out with bros for a few weeks. It did make me wonder about Aus. though. Are his observations true to an extent, or was it just because he hung around with bros the entire time? I don't have any real knowledge of Australian culture.
Man I wish I had time to watch the liveshow but i won't before the weekend - just wanted to interject that yes, the culture is incredibly machismo here. but maybe in a subtler expression than other countries? we're just less expressive in general. at university, one of my entire classes was on the australian archetype and it's foundation (much like the American Hero national identity, stiff upper-lip British, blah blah) and why it is deeply entrenched in masculine ideals (for both men and women).

we also don't have equal rights here so i think among a tech crew that has probably done many gigs in the arts they wouldn't necessarily be an oddity, but very broadly speaking it's unusual for straight males to have non-straight friends. there tends to be a met-me-at-my-level type interaction, especially in group situations, and especially among but not limited to only blue collar workers. (having flashbacks to Dan's stupid handshake video)
Do you mean equal rights as in gay marriage? I'm not sure what you are referring to here and what relevance that has to the tech crew and straight men not having non-straight friends. But I agree and understand about the Australian archetype/machismo culture here and that blue collar workers have that attitude. I think the areas Dan would have been exposed to would have been dominated by the traditional gender role culture. Tech/road crews are all still dominated by that here.

”How close did you find Australia was to Britain?” Geographically? Or, like, societally? Because geographically it’s literally the furthest place away from Britain. Erm – similarly – yeah it was quite similar. They, like, get irony and sarcasm. It was quite chill. Road signs, driving on the correct side of the road, I mean it’s all there.

I found Australia had a very masculine … gender-role-y … country. In the UK it’s not like our male role-models are particularly strong. You know, British role models tend to be sarcastic people and thinkers, and Steven Fry or whatever, whereas I feel like Australian role models traditionally are quite like “I punched a crocodile”. Or not quite, that was incredibly offensive. But I did get the impression that it was more like, y’know like, “I’m the man, nhug!”

“can you say happy birthday to Katie?” Happy late Birthday Katie, aka Latie!
“when’s the next Undertale?” *starts talking about plan for Undertale week*
Thanks for this

I'm not really impressed by the 'i punched a crocodile comment' it really simplifies Australian culture and is stereotypical but I'm glad he said that was probably offensive. But he's right. Most of the male role models in Australia are traditional stereotypical males - sports stars especially but also men who use larrikin humour which is probably a bit more traditionally manly than the sarcastic dry, smart humour in the UK.

I wonder why they don't just make all their live shows joint ones, they'd make more money. I used to think it was because they liked reminding people they're YouTubers in their own right and don't do everything together, but they mention eachother so much in their videos that idk if I believe that anymore. It doesn't seem like there will be a survive of their joint content anytime soon either, imo.

I'm an INFJ (-A,-T) type lol.

thank you bisexualshowmarriage! saved me a lot of time. i watched the clip, and i agree with timtam it was a pretty broad, sweeping generalisation of both British and Australian culture. of course any generalisation is going to miss out on substantial pockets of society (and influential ones at that) who buck the national stereotype.

setting aside the generality of his observation though, he's not wrong. sports and larrikin humour and mateship, blah blah is very highly valued in mainstream society here. it could've been even more exaggerated in the men he hung out with though, and i'd be interested to know if he didn't find the same thing had they hung out more with the US and UK crews.

timtam to clarify yes, i was meaning equal rights of women, non-hetersexual, and non-cis peeps, and no, not just marriage. i mean we're not lining people up to shoot them, but we're pretty depressingly, embarrassingly behind all other major western democracies now and that is indicative of a cultural malaise to me.

Dan has been thinking about gender roles a lot lately, hasn't he?
it's fascinating watching him grow and think on camera.

I couldn't decide he's more F or T, cuz he do have a very sensitive and sentimental side, but he has good analytical and critical thinking skills as well. :? Now i'm jealous, he's gifted.

Anyone know Phil's?

Wow, we really are  I suppose introverts are stereotypically more likely to hang around online, but there's probably more to it than that.

Phil mentioned it in a liveshow earlier this year, will post timestamp if I find it.

And we discussed it at the time: topic381-650.html

I heard somewhere a while ago that Myers-Briggs was discredited for some reason, but I still find it an interesting insight. I love the design and graphics on that site, very nicely done.

I wonder if Dan (or even Phil, in this daring new era of his) will comment on the shipping drama with Legend of Korra once they've moved onto it.

My heart leaped a little out of its place when I saw that tweet. I have strong feelings ok don't kink-shame me

If they watch Korra I just want Dan to be Varrick and say "Phil, do the thing!"

That was pretty underwhelming yet not surprising. At least they told us upfront in the video title that they were terrible.

Maybe I'm just a salty bitch today, but I feel like the banter in the video was boring, the game footage was boring, and the game choice was boring. All a recipe for me not to enjoy the video! The only part of the video that I enjoyed was Dan picking the rainbow snake. That's it.

i really hope they don't actually make another one of these, lol

Really enjoyed that vid, especially the last minute or so, felt like something they might have otherwise edited out, but left it this time.

Also I wonder what Dan was really going to say about Phil's eyes.

They were pretty terrible at this game.

Lol I really rather enjoyed the video, not sure why as the game is just as interesting as the blobby one. Quite liked Dan's animated mood, wrapping his arms around his head lol it made me laugh and him in his pyjamas was pretty cute. Phil always makes me laugh when he hides his face in his hands, what a "cinnamon roll" lol.

Overall, pretty nice surprise of a video. I think I prefer them as Dan vs Phil's though because they do really suck at it ahaha.

Love the video, I love games like that and even though they were terrible the video was still enjoyable. They're so funny when they're just naturally playing games like that.

What is this uploading schedule, so many videos. Is it Christmas? Haha! Not complaining one bit, it's been great having so many uploads.

I can see why they were in no rush to post this. (I'm assuming it's one of the ones they filmed before Australia that they've both referenced as just going unedited for a while.) It was okay, but nothing special. Didn't really make me laugh, though I still always feel a low grade satisfaction watching them interact. I'm not unhappy with it, it's just not one I'll rush to rewatch a million times.
Pondering the meaning behind this. Either he's acknowledging they'll be too busy to post in October, or it might be that they just don't plan on posting for a while after the doc/tour go up so those stay fresh and the most recent thing on their channels.

Edited to say: I see some people take it to mean the opposite, that there will be more in October. I have a feeling not though, I'm not anticipating too much between the first and last week of October.

I interpreted that tweet to mean "you think we're posting a lot of videos now? Just wait until October hits" (as in they will be posting a lot in October lol). Most likely in reference to spooky week where they'll post consecutive videos throughout one week.

Yeah same. I still think instead of spooky week they'll make it an Undertale week just to get that series done and dusted and they may not have time to film 5 brand new videos. We shall see though.

They were so bad at it. It was funny. I just wish they played together more so Dan will get more frustrated and over with than he already was.
They're really putting a lot of videos to hype up their fans for the Youtube Red videos. I am impressed. I guess drought will start after all their projects.
I will be very disappointed if spooky week will only be Undertale. I just don't like that series. There are a lot of scary indie game out there. I want screaming Dan!

If they do spooky week, I have a feeling it will be undertale too, but It would be a shame if we don't get FNAF:sister location and Outlast 2 demo, just because they are spooky week staples.
