Kinda boring Slither.io video, they both looked so in need of sleep/jetlagged. A few cute/domestic moments, but this game is so unnerving for me personally, even more than agar.io. Feels like they are just dumping anything on DAPG, relying on #bants. Wouldn’t criticize them too much on this specifically though, I get that they have other priorities at the moment. I’m really looking forward to the spooky week this year too as many of you do, the last year’s one was very good, even though they looked sorta dead in all videos in the middle of the UK tour, it was almost «resistance entertainment». Enjoyable nonetheless.
They seem to get on with consistent pre-recording of gaming videos, and I thought if they have a strategy for each video or block of videos, like a theme or selling point? They filmed a block of lazy/domestic vids like agar.io, slither.io, some of flash game apps, then there are #relatable videos like the whole Sims series, then action-based – like the best of Dan vs Phil, impossible quiz, Undertale, some of the spooky vids, there are "trendy" vids like the FNAFs, there are special occasion videos like Just Dance, etc. And they seem to alternate between those, I wonder if it just happens accidentally, or is there is a plan behind that, aiming at diversity (probably a bit of both).

My fave gif of them ever

Everything they do has a purpose and they've thought it out thoroughly. They have built an entire empire on YT and they've done it through very purposeful marketing and planning. I could go on for ages about how the introduction of the gaming channel was to introduce them as a 'brand' to prepare everyone for tabinof/tatinof so it would sell easier, and how they started doing more 'phan' things (starting with the Thinking Out Loud dance) to calm down the audience and normalize them being together.vincentian wrote:

Really? Idk if I can jump onboard with DAPG existing to preface the tour and book. Has always seemed like something they've just always wanted to do, plus fun content they can make together and they're gamers anyway. I really think the radio show did the job of nurturing their joint brand, not the gaming channel. So much so that now the radio show has gone, people aren't worrying about them never working together again; far from it, infact.sinnamonrollphil wrote:Everything they do has a purpose and they've thought it out thoroughly. I really liked the Slither.io, I don't know if it was because they were jet lagged or whatever, but Dan seemed to really let go of the branding a bit and just be himself. I don't think I heard any 'this guy' comments which was super refreshing, they were just themselves. Nice filler, although I'd love something with a bit more depth next time, I don't even care about Undertale anymore. They need to play something that they both actually want to play. They both discussed The Witcher 3 a few liveshows ago, why not chuck it on DAPG?

Yeah, I get that they are clever with the marketing and branding, and have an entire management team to help them with this and stuff (but I’m not sure that dancing to Thinking Out Loud was part of their marketing scheme lol). Though I love marketing talk at all times.sinnamonrollphil wrote:Everything they do has a purpose and they've thought it out thoroughly. Just adding on to this: D&P have had the gaming channel idea for a very long time. The channel itself was created in May 2014, even if the first videos weren't until September, while the oldest clips in their making of tabinof video are from December 2014. Maybe the reasons behind creating it could have been a little more complicated than 'we like games and we make videos, so let's combine the two', but I don't think it was a marketing strategy to ease their audience into the notion of them making a book and tour together.human wrote:Really? I liked the new video well enough. My favourite parts: looking at the dog out the window and both of them drinking Ribena casually. Also Phil checking Dan out when Dan did weird arm positions near the end.
Yeeeees. I only ever play shitty flash games myself but I want to see D&P playing hardcore console games that they are good at and know about and actually enjoy. We know they're not just casual browser gamers, but you wouldn't think that from the content on D&PG these days.itsonlybeth wrote:Nice filler, although I'd love something with a bit more depth next time, I don't even care about Undertale anymore. Regarding mbti: Here's the thing - as someone who has spent countless hours researching and studying mbti and the theory of Carl Jung's cognitive functions, I feel like I know enough about this personality theory to know that Dan is NOT an infj and Phil certainly is not an intj.
With mbti, it's not enough to take a shitty online test (yes, that includes 16 personalities) or look at descriptions of traits for each personality type posted on some shitty website (again, that includes 16 personalities) and call it a day. Trying to find your personality type through this method is the EXACT reason why so many people don't give mbti any validity. Because I agree: taking some random test online that is dependent on your own personal feelings during the moment you take the test - and can change via your feelings the next time you take the test (along with the fact that online mbti tests rely on bullshit stereotypes that shouldn't be attributed to real-life, complex, three-dimensional human beings) is inaccurate. So are looking at descriptions online that, again, rely on stereotypes and do not even begin to delve into the complexity of the human nature (which can only be achieved by studying Jung's cognitive functions - which, in turn, gives you your mbti type). The only accurate way to determine type is theory Jung's functions.
That being said, I'm not entirely sure what Phil's type is (due to the fact that mbti is incredibly complex and cannot be determined due to a series of personality traits listed on some random site), but he I am thinking he is an is_j (f/t debatable). I say this because is_js are creatures of habit, reluctant to change, like to do things as they've always been done - traits that Phik definitely shows through his behavior on his YouTube channel (see: the fact that he's been stuck in the same persona for years with slow change). These are not traits of an intj - quite the opposite actually. Intjs are entirely focused on the future; they don't give two shits about the past...definitely nothing like the past-oriented, stuck-in-brand-rut person we know Phil is.
And Dan...I could go on for hours about how people are CONSTANTLY being mistyped as infjs (actually, people are mistyped as Ns in general, but that's a whole different story), but Dan is almost certainly an intp. I know shitty type descriptions go on about how infjs are oh-so-sensitive and all that shit, but the thing is infj type descriptions are incredibly misleading: they're romanticized and made to look amazing because everyone wants to be an infj. The reality is that f/t is not about how sensitive or insensitive you are. I know the names are misleading, but feelers can ABSOLUTELY be assholes (see Hitler and Ted Bundy - horrific people who are both mbti feelers) and thinkers can be incredibly sensitive. Feeling had to do with morals and values, NOT emotions. Thinking has to with critical analysis and facts. And Dan is heavily influenced by his thinking - he's always using logic, in his videos, in his liveshows, everywhere to explain how he feels about something, about how he thinks something should be a certain way, about how something seems "right" to him - he uses logic and critical thinking to decide and explain these things. Yes, Dan is sensitive and emotional, but mbti doesn't give a shit about that (at least outside of bad online type descriptions). Sensitive and emotionality have nothing to do with feeling and thinking.

silverwinter, I think like someone who claims to have put such effort into researching that personality test, you should have also understood none of us, no matter how qualified with MBTI, can type out Dan or Phil based on information they let the internet see.
It confuses and annoys me to no end when people here claim to know Dan and Phil's personalities. Habits, quirks, general attitudes? Definetely, but we don't know them

Definitely true, so in that case, we can only hope to decipher their personality (not just mbti-related) the best we can. And strangely enough mbti doesn't have much to do with your personality in the way you're probably thinking about it - it's more to do with the way in which your brain processes information - what you're *actually* like as a person doesn't have much to do with it. I don't claim to know what their personalities are - all their behaviors and attitudes and feelings and beliefs. I just feel like I know their mbti types which is a very minuscule part of their personality.gnostic wrote:silverwinter, I think like someone who claims to have put such effort into researching that personality test, you should have also understood none of us, no matter how qualified with MBTI, can type out Dan or Phil based on information they let the internet see.

*edit* What I'm trying to say is that just because I'm fairly certain I know their mbti types doesn't mean I claim to "know them". Because (a) I obviously can't as I've never properly known them irl and (b) mbti doesn't really say shit about a person when it comes down to it, it's just a theory about brain processes after all.

I'm being completely offtopic and I not sure if that was mentioned before but I was rewatching today Taking quizzes about myself and not only Phil failed at the primary school math, he also forgot that he met Taylor Swift?
The awkwardness when Taylor hugs dan in that video
Woah chill out folks it's not brain surgery
I don't think anyone on this site claims to know dan and phil anymore than they choose to reveal. Tbh I just like that site and being an infp i find it described my character quite well.. and when I saw you guys talking about it I had fun for 10 minutes trying to figure out what type they were... but you're correct, I am no expert and sorry for linking a shitty stereotypical buzzfeed-quiz-equivalent website... Should have known better lol
@silver - you've definitely put more thought into this and I agree with your explanation

Thank you, but don't be sorry for linking to that quiz! (my comments weren't even directed at you, I was just speaking in general) I'm just a huge mbti nerd and I was expressing my love for it through Dan & Phil, but you don't have to feel bad lol, I'm sorry if I came across as too aggressive.ladygaga wrote:Woah chill out folks it's not brain surgeryI don't think anyone on this site claims to know dan and phil anymore than they choose to reveal. Sorry if this post is shitty (I'm on mobile) but Ticia as one of our resident accountants I must say I'm not sure why they'd change at this time of year. I don't have my laptop but tomorrow morning I'll take a look at their year end and filings to see if there might be an obvious reason.
To be fair clients change at various times of year purely to get savings on their fees or because they're getting shitty service, it might just be very mundane.

I wonder how biology can explain the physical pain you feel in your chest when all you want to do is talk shit on IDB
Thank you gaga, let's just be chill about this, it's all my fault i shouldn't just brought it up without explanation. Anyway, first I just thought it's fun that we can know more about them and about you guys (never thought we have a majority of INs here), secondly i just thought since they are just mystery to us, trying to get to know them better through this kind of analysis if kind of effective, because you get to really have a broader view of them(? Am i making sense? sorry about my english if it doesn't) instead of just look at one aspect of them.ladygaga wrote:Woah chill out folks it's not brain surgeryI don't think anyone on this site claims to know dan and phil anymore than they choose to reveal. I'm just gonna write a late opinion on the new DAPG Video:
I love it, and it's just because they suck at the game more than I do
Joke. I'm obviously joking. I'm just cringing every time they die because I last a little longer than that, and I screamed when they inevitably let themselves killed.
I have nothing else to say about the current discussion, so I'm just gonna go back to my book marathon because I apparently have no life, and that I should be planning on how to add to my group's thesis and how to do our documentary, BUT NO, I'm apparently too lazy for that my life.

They need to figure out a way to make splixio a drinking game if they plan on broaching that one for a video.
