To me, reverence is behaviour that includes a spiritual element, and I am far too cynical to think that other youtubers even merely respect deppy. Nope, it's about being where the cameras are, and if they are pointed at deps, then, free promo for anyone there. If your job is social media based, then staying in the spotlight, or adjacent to the spotlight is vital. I feel a bit (just a bit) sorry for deps, if I were in their position, I'd think others view me only in terms of how I can help them. (Stand there and look pretty while I take a picture and caption it to make myself look cool.) Adding onto this snap chatting thing, there is an undertone of mocking that I don't like. If you're going to use your colleagues to boost your career/profile, be creative, don't make it obvious to everyone what you're doing (for example, filming someone secretly, saying you won't be doing that again, and ta-daa). As for being seen as snobby, at least their isolation isn't a new phenomenon, they've behaved similarly in others' vlogs for years.
But it does make me wonder, I don't think of deps as celebrities, but others did mention it, so, is celebrity a status that deps have made themselves, or have others' made deps into celebrities?
forgive me for being blunt
I totally agree with you simply being near them is a free promo and should be looked at as a business decision not a personal one (if that is indeed the case) and yes they could make it more subtle. celebrity status is given by the people you cant just call yourself a celebrity. If you garner a following then in that sphere you are a celebrity, even if others dont know who you are.

Evan: I cut phan out of my videos, because i don't want people to watch me because of them and also THEY PROBABLY DON'T LIKE IT EITHER

Also Evan: Makes several snapchat videos of them even though he has to bend over backwards to get those shots.

I guess It's ok that people follow him on snapchat just because of phan and it suddenly doesn't matter if they like being in his snapchat.

Evan can be so frustrating because occasionally i actually like some of his videos, especially his travel channel, but then he goes and does these things

I finally caught up with tatinof, the docu, etc and at least skimmed the last idb thread (seriously, why do they have to be so active when i'm so busy. I just know that when the next drought comes i'll be bored out of my mind).

LOVE tatinof! I was expecting to cringe really bad, because the more i like someone, the more they make me cringe (and that's exhausting), but after the first minutes i was able to just enjoy it. And the docu only gave me some cringe during the bed/bunk scene. It's the most obviously scripted part, because even during one scene, there were multiple camera angles so they had to have refilmed the parts. That was so weird :?
Other than that i loved it and i'm very proud of them

The same goes for their single and music video

Will we ever know how much money that song made? Or is the sum only included in the total amount that was raised by sutc? I'm really curious.

And i'm so happy that tatinof eu might still happen! I was so salty that they were just going to ignore it

I was finally able to watch Deppy's part of the livestream. I loved how Dan said "Thank you" when that guy (Sammy?) put Phil over his score. Another proof that they're basically one person

It's really interesting what you guys say about other YouTubers and their opinion of/relationship with Deppy. I never doubt that they are quite antisocial and that it's not just part of their brand. They are not the typical YouTubers: their closest friends aren't the famous YouTubers everyone knows and they aren't really in a certain YouTube-clique. They don't do as many collabs as other YouTubers, especially Dan, and I always feel like when they do, they are a little different and do more "mainstream" things than they'd do alone. I think that's mostly their antisocial behaviour, them being always together and also insecurities they (especially in Dan) still seem to have.
However, I do believe that a huge part of it is that they are afraid of people using their fans. I only realised how aware they are of it when Dan called Onision out on it. And I think that that's why they don't really like to pop-up in vlogs that much or do so many collabs. Which is something very unique for famous YouTubers.
And I can imagine that a lot of YouTubers are jealous how successful they are without a billion collabs, mainstream videos, drama, vlogging their whole life, etc. They really managed to establish a business. And they also didn't have to "train" an army of brainless fans and yet have a very invested and dedicated fandom, that is somehow bigger than the fandoms of YouTubers with more subscribers and videos twice a week. They don't even do that many ads and wrote their book and show themselves. And I'm pretty sure a lot of YouTubers ask themselves: "How?"
Tbh, sometimes I don't know how they managed that. Looking at big YouTubers, they all seem to follow the same "recipe". Dan and Phil stand out because they don't. And I know that I probably wouldn't like them if they would follow the "recipe" as well because I'm not a big fan of it. I'm just wondering how two guys can have such a good chemistry and such convincing personalities that they can allow to make changes in the "recipe" without having to suffer from becoming irrelevant but actually the opposite. They really made it. And tbh, who wouldn't be a bit jealous of that?

[offtopic]I'm usually/always a lurker but i read this on twitter and i'm really curious concerning a ask: dan and phil went to phil's friends wedding together recently. im not going to show a picture or point it out to anyone. it was on social media, ppl found it, and obvs it was like that. nothing more, no big hype.
I don't remember hearing about this *maybe because i wasn't really active at the time*. Can someone provide more context (btw if i do something wrong in terms of how to send this messages and stuff i'm sorry but it's my first time[/offtopic]

True, there are so many countries/continents that have never even been talked about. I wonder if EU is really the end or if there might be even more. Have they ever answered if they will go to, for example, South America? Or the Philippines seem so have a very enthusiastic phanbase as well

I also wonder how the release of the tatinof movie influenced the demand for tour tickets. Would they have sold even more tickets if the content of the show had been better known? I'm sure lots of more casual viewers didn't even consider going to a show because they thought it's just a m&g, q&a thing. If i hadn't read spoilers about the show actually having a plot and a glorious ending number, i wouldn't want to go tbh and before the tour started i was certain it wouldn't interest me and now look how desperate i am to see it live, i really should have travelled to london back when they toured there

Knowing them after that long tour there probably staying in-doors for a while. But we cant really know for sure its deppy after all.

The way i see it is that the realese of the tatinof movie is like a scapegoat for them "havent seen the tour watch the movie instead" but i would love to see them live though

Its probably because their uniqueness its like when you watch a movie for example a buddy cop movie it might be fun for the first time around but as you watch more and more movies with the same formula it becomes stale and predictable i dont care how handsome you are if you have a coockie cutter personality i probably wont watch you. Another thing is that they are relatable you all are probably antisocial in one way or the other and where do all antisocial people go? to the internet, they also have this amazing dynamic yin (dan the edgy memer) and yang (phil the cute and cuddly one) and probably there most important trait is that they actually care about their work, and love their fanbase.

Re: TATINOF Europe/rest of the world. With the cat out of the bag (documentary and show out on the internet), at least part of the people that would have gone to a European show might have lost interest (me, for example) and considering the language barrier I don't think they would make much money out of it, so I don't see how it could happen. Why Dan was so ambiguous in his last liveshow, I have no idea.

Re: other youtubers and their respect towards dan and phil. As someone who is solely engaged in the idea of their relationship and doesn't particularly empathise with them as individuals (because rich and famous people are not people I tend to empathise with), I think your stan goggles are too tight. If something, the majority of their colleagues probably 'resent' them (that's probably not the right word, I mean it in a 'why are you so successful when you do nothing special' kind of way) because at the end of the day dan and phil have tons of people who worship them blindly while their videos are average at best and they don't even post that often.

We're actually from the same country. Hi. :platonic: It's usually 2 am our time though. I'm still usually up cause I'm studying for post grad so if the net doesn't suck too bad I try to watch. Or maybe I'm just too much of a ;) (Dan's LS are usually 4 am our time though and at that point I'm usually a zombie already).

Edit: Putting it under a spoiler cause it's long and I waffled:
I'm definitely one with on too tightly but I agree with this. I don't think what the other YTers feel about Deppy isn't respect but rather resentment. Though other Youtubers sometimes makes fun of the Phandom, I do think they would want that big and that dedicated of a fanbase. They try to hop on to the YT trends, splash their lives all over the internet, follow the "Youtube formulas", but they don't work. Sure a lot of them have more subs than Deppy but their views-to-subscriber ratio are way below Deppy. Tbh, I noticed that the YTers that I do get into and not just casually watch are the YTers that don't collab much or don't rely on other people popping into their videos (Deppy together in videos don't count) [I got obsessed with NigaHiga, WongFu Productions and Deppy]. And they're also the semi-mysterious ones with aspects of their lives not known to the internet, resulting to speculation about it. They also try not to follow YT trends and create their own content and styles that somehow still resonate with their viewers and are popular. Oh well, it's not Deppy's fault that the Phandom, though problematic at times, is still one of the most powerful fandom in terms of numbers and dedication. I honestly don't think that their videos are average. I'm fairly easy to please but a lot of YT contents are a hit and miss with me while with Deppy I'm consistently either laughing or cringing, but I've never been bored by them. So they're doing something right with their videos that brings them a notch above the other YTers (at least for me). It's not the "creativity" in the content because they usually talk about stuff that other YTers talk about, but there's something about them that just makes me react positively to them. There's just a spark of something that's hard to describe. And I've only really felt that spark (other than Deppy) with NigaHiga and WongFu who are very very creative people.

As far as I know the friend in question was Phil's friend, but is actually very good friends with both of them now, so it wouldn't be unusual for both of them to attend his wedding :)

I actually haven't seen the photo and i'm really curious to see it, would you mind to pm it to me? ( i wouldn't share it obviously).

Unrelated but i'm curious to see whether we will get a moving out reference today on the liveshow, we have been getting them every liveshow for like 2 weeks isn't it ?
