Oh hey a video about TATINOF that's different.

- These videos stress me the fuck out, Sorted did one a while back during a cooking battle and I was all over the place not knowing where to look.
- Dan was right in all those M&G he does have really long arms. *turns the camera towards the mirror to see him babbling to a camera in the mirror reflection* Epic lolz.
- Phil is the one with long arms now.
- Phil should undo the top button more often tbh it looks good. Almost makes that shirt bearable. Almost.
- At this point I'm just spinning the camera around and around and around.
- Fuck you Dan, telling Phil to button up again. You're not his mum.
- I can't see shit in the dark half of this video is useless.

It was kinda like it could be a short clip from a DITL so that's nice but truthfully it was pretty boring. The coolest thing about it was the camera that was used but as I've seen videos using that before it wasn't that interesting to me personally. It's 2nd channel material tbh, but YTR probably wants it on DINOF. There goes his fantasy of having a quality standard :')

Okay but in all seriousness; to you and the others who only like one of them: how do you feel about their brands being so connected? And that they don't have separate fan bases? Do you not care or do you wish they didn't have the sole "Dan and Phil" brand/they had separate fandoms?

I like Phil better most days, Dan is a bit too.. fake-deep for me. I hate being talked down to, which is why I sometimes regret watching his live shows. I also think the whole 'be mean to Phil/bully with love' thing isn't funny, especially because Phil is so much funnier (IMO). Before anyone attacks me, I know it's supposed to be a joke and it's easier to be funny when you have 'set roles', but it's annoying after the same bit being repeated to you ten times. Also, I had an 'IRL' friendship like that and it sucked. I know both of them are funny, I just wish they would show it with better jokes. Lol. Harsh, sorry deppy.

I like Dan best, when he's talking about things he likes, unabashedly. Like the side channel anime video. I think I like him best on the gaming channel. In some episodes he's really into the game, so he isn't as annoying.

I think DanAndPhil is good, its a strong branding, and I can handle Dan when he's with Phil (Sometimes it's easier without Phil as he drops the bullyWlove shtick, and is genuinely fond of him). I am a fan of both (mostly Phil) but I know that most people equally love them without a strong preference, so it makes sense to have a joined brand.

If you like scrutinizing them for their reactions in situations where their guard is down (this time, dominated by nerves) then it's a goldmine. I just came here to say this ! it reminded me strongly of what Phil does when Dan is cheeky and puts his legs behind his head? is Phil sort of tense at having to curb his natural reaction, so it comes off disapproving? or is he actually disapproving? (and what would his natural reaction be, anyway?!). i can't tell which it is but this fascinates me.

what struck me was how nervous they were - i like in particular seeing Phil nervous, it makes him a bit more human to me. gimme more stuff like this, deppy! though yeah i could do without the 360 cam.

sidenote: i feel disappointed on the behalf of the fans who don't watch dan's ls anymore due to feeling talked down to. but i also think that is a valid reaction. i've not seen evidence of sexism, if anything i feel like dan might relate strongly to his female fanbase rather than feel separate or superior to them, but i do see a problem with the age thing.

The thing with Phil, is that he doesnt actively say stuff like dan does, they just pop up when he is chatting, and thats why we dont scrutinize them as much as dans, because they blend in with the conversation. (Example: him saying that he "doesnt know the gender pronoun alberta would want to be called" or him saying "i dont have to be a girl to wear makeup" to a person saying he would make a pretty girl, also the "clothes dont have gender thing" etc. All of these are just things that pop up and people dismiss because he dismisses them too.)

Dan doesnt do this, he actively puts his opinions out there because -even if he is indeed liberal and wants to teach his fans which i am truly grateful, we need nicer people in this world-, I think that sometimes part of him is still seeking validation (maybe even praise or attention), those type of things -childhood traumas- are really hard to get away from, meanwhile phil knows that no strong direct opinion means less drama even if that means he cant vocally say a lot of stuff, the people that matter know his opinions and thats whats important -this happens when a child is listened to in their household instead of being instantly dismissed, they dont need the world to know what they think-, and so thats why we dont get to see that side of him, it doesnt mean he doesnt have a deep side, (Example: when he was talking about the universe, existence designed by computers, death, in his last live show), because i doubt living with a person as "existentialist" as dan doesnt come with deep chats at 3 am eating cereal on the stairs, because we forget that as much as phil has changed dan, dan has also changed phil, so they most likely share several opinions on this aspect, the thing is how they both decide to deal and express it.

First, to get it out of the way: You guys and your reaction images make me laugh out loud for real and I appreciate that so much Y'all are some of the funniest people I know and I'm glad to be on here

Dan being pretentious: I enjoy Dan's pretentiousness bc I am also pretentious because at least he is always trying to improve himself. The quality of recognising that you have lots to learn both from others and yourself is very endearing to me. If Dan now was the same as 2009 Dan and also pretentious then I'd feel icky, but he's definitely come a long way from "lol r*ped by geese" to "what IS gender anyway?". I still also feel that he genuinely enjoys these liveshows because he can sit and waffle on about stuff he likes to people that won't care if he's mentioned it a thousand times. His real life friends are probs sick of it to an extent. And if that's an expressive outlet for him then hey, whatever, if I don't enjoy it then I won't rewatch.

Dan talking down to ppl: I actually kind of like that he explains a lot of things which may sound condescending (like spelling out Fargo) or when he says "if you don't know what X is", but I feel that may be a sort of reflection on how he used to explode on tumblr about "being literally 12" on his rantscapades. The reason why I like it is because from my POV it's like "I don't know who you are or where you are from behind the screen, so I will not treat you like an idiot for not knowing something and call you out on it, instead I'll explain and if you know then ok, if not then you found out". This may be because when I was in school a lot of teachers had a habit of singling out someone they suspected didn't know the answer to something and would expose them in front of everyone else. So if I was 12 and watching Dan's ls and I didn't know something, I would feel bad if he went on to talk about it and I didn't know what it was. At least this way he explains what it is to the audience and the rest can just follow on/participate.

Yeah, there's a lot of us his age or older, but I just learn to discard the info he gives that seems obvious or self-explanatory to me and keep the rest. Because I'm almost positive it's precious to someone else.

I find the homework bits cute. A bit of a joke and also I wonder how many younger fans who genuinely look up to Dan and his opinions would sit down and contemplate gender and concepts and write a little essay about it. It would be nice if you kept it and years later when you are his age, find it and think about how much you developed as a person.

The 360 video: I find it fascinating!!! It was absolutely potato quality for me, but you guys, imagine if this becomes the future of vlogging and video making!!! This might well be the future common videocamera and one day years from now people will wonder how we endured primitive flat video recordings. I mean I still have my old Nokia mobile phone that didn't have a camera at all and had snake on it. And now I have a 15MP front and back camera on a smartphone that has the entire universe of knowledge in my pocket, and a click away from talking to friends or browsing this forum.

I don't think he meant any harm, I interpreted it in the way of "constructs don't really mean anything, gender doesn't dictate anything about you since it is made up. Your label could be a banana and it wouldn't matter even then, cause it's most important to be comfortable with yourself"
however, his comment also seemed a bit like "non-binary identy is as ridiculous as identifying as a banana" which is, of course, very disrespectful.
I have to admit I am bit ignorant when it comes to gender, I don't know enough about the spectrum itself but I still think non-binary people are valid

I don't mind his personality, I actually like his ramblings about #deep™ things or art. The only thing that bothers me is that he says things along the lines of "I am actually looking up things about physics/politics/whatever now and appreciate learning for the sake of it, you will understand that when you're older" or the general assumption that teenage girls (or teenager as a whole) can't grasp the motivation behind it.
I can't blame him, most young people really don't care about it. Still, I can't help being slighty annoyed because I am a teenage girl and I am your number 1 (science) nerd. My dream is it to become a physicist but I am into philosophy, psychology, art and politics as well. That doesn't mean I am any better than people who aren't, I just happen to have interests that don't fit the norm. So whenever Dan is like "uh huu huuu look at me caring about all the important topics, you will do that too someday" I am like "umm... I actually do..."
I guess that it is mostly my personal issue and not Dan's fault though, as he doesn't know all of his audience in person.
