I've often wondered about that too. It's probably been discussed before but his grandparents seem to be a bigger part of his life than his parents. His grandma calls him often and watches his videos, where as his mum seemed surprised that he called her in the bat prank video. Someone on twitter had a comparison video on his behavior with his mum vs with Phil's mum and he seemed more relaxed on the phone with Kath than with his own. The prank phone call I found odd too, she seemed surprised he was calling her. I get this feeling that his parents are not happy with his life decisions, and maybe this is why he hasn't come out publically with Phil in order to save their feelings.
