I'm slightly surprised that there weren't more comments on Dan's video that remarked on his appreciation for the male physique since I remember that there were quite a lot of them on Phil's anime video, wasn't there? Does it have to do with the different type of audiences on D&P's channels, I wonder? I guess Dan has a larger casual following that are maybe not that invested in Phan and doesn't really notice a couple of off comments about pretty boys. It makes me feel that I think way too much about these kinds of things.

He tends to do that and I think especially since it's #spon he'll want to be apologetic or something, but I hope he fights the urge heh. I don't give any shits about anime and I enjoyed both videos because his passion for it came through and made it enjoyable. I want to see him be proud and confident instead

But I hope for the best, in some way that video did feel like a change to me, maybe because it was a DINOF, because saying these things in a ls would not have been a big deal. But a video on the main channel is thought through especially when it's a #spon so he knew exactly what he was doing.

Re: sexuality. People don't need to label themselves if they don't want to ( definitely don't need to if they're uncomfortable with it), but please, please don't look down or mock people who feel they have to, especially young people, teenagers who are still figuring themselves out. I mean, they can label themselves with five labels who cares, if they do it because it's genuine or they want to feel special, who cares. they can do whatever the hell they want to feel confident.

So people who do that, teenagers, young adult, or whoever, who just lurked or have commented on this, i just want to say, it's okay. you do you (though i agree it's not nice when people just jumped to conclusion that people are __phobic because they're misinformed and not out of malice)

i was going to make this comment if haru is the metaphor for their relationship like people have been saying, what does it mean now that it has been acknowledged? but eh probably not much. Anyway, It's been one week since phil uploaded a video, i hope he uploads soon. Also, i really want a gaming video. Be it sims or undertale (but preferably the latter), i don't care. So long as it's not a spon.

Ooh that's interesting; it's got over 800 dislikes with almost 1M views and all his other videos this year (with 2X+ the views) only have around 6-700.
(His phan-fiction reading has almost 900 though )

Completely guessing, but the title probably attracted random anime fans who aren't Dan fans and they didn't like it? That combined with the "Ad? thumbs-down" people probably jacked it up.

That does seem like the most reasonable conclusion since a lot of ad videos on youtube tend to have more dislikes than usual. The only other option I think is somewhat likely is that he might have said something to piss off the anime fandom (maybe his pronunciation?).

It seems like a probable reason, mainly because of the more casual watchers? Or because it's something a bit more specific than just "spoilers" and internet life. Even if anime is quite ingrained in internet culture.

I agree with the fact that it has something to do with more 'casual' watchers based on the title. Compared to most of Dan's other videos it suggests something quite generic rather than say 'Cringe Attack' or 'Existential Crisis' which is more geared towards DINOF's viewers.

I did a little stalking of Dan's youtube videos research, and this seems to be a running theme in terms of amount of dislikes:

Other 'generic' titles that aren't specifically very 'Dan' (AKA, that are likely to attract casual viewers who aren't familiar with him): What Not To Do At The Beach / How NOT To Stay Cool, have over 1,000 dislikes, whereas videos posted around the same time that had more 'Dan' titles (Human Interaction), only has 800.

Of course popularity (amount of views) might add into it to balance the ratio, but...
What Not To Do At The Beach: 4,958,000 ish views / 1,252 dislikes
Human Interaction(The video BEFORE the beach one in the timeline): 5,073,000 ish views / 839 dislikes.

But hey, that's just a theory

Tl;dr - likely to be down to attracting people who aren't familiar with him and may not 'get' his style.

what I'm worried about most is that the chat will be flooded with comments about his sexuality and nothing else, honestly. like idk how he'd react, laugh it off? default to old defense mechanisms? be just really uncomfortable? the video was great in its entirety, imo, so i hope people tell him. this is what a lot of us wanna see the most

I agree with what you people are saying, if the dislikes are above average yea i'm guessing it's because of spon, some slightly confused anime fans and maybe the fascinating but rare species Subscriberus Danielus slightly Homophobicus, for whom all of this may be just a bit to sexual.

I agree with all of this but I get pissed when people fake that there gay/bi/pan etc. End of 8th grade year a bunch of the ´popular´ girls were all suddenly lesbian or bi then the next year they were saying that they never said that. This was 2012 so was there something that happend that made it ´cool´?

I think this came from a post I saw on tumblr a while back, and also keep in mind that I watch about 1 in every 50 pdp videos, so I don't have that much personal interpretation to add to this,

but there was a side by side comparison thing of "before pewdiepie hung out with D&P" and a "after he hung out with D&P", and the before clip was showing him referencing them in one of his older videos where he said something along the lines of, "and there's people who want them to get together, which won't happen, you're all delusional, they're just friends etc etc etc" (whatever generic stuff we're used to hearing) and the after clip was I think their high-school photoshop video (or maybe the shippy fanfiction drawing one or something, idk I don't honestly remember it that well)


Regardless, If that was really the extent of his D&P mentions before hanging out with them, though, then I do find that really interesting! It fuels the in me, but it could also be that he's just playing around and throwing jokes at them, like how friends will tease each other for the lolz, etc. It all really depends on how close they actually are as friends, which we don't really know, so personally I have no clue if would actually be bothered by this particular mention or not.

(IMO I will say, though, this feels a bit heavier than a typical throwaway phan comment to actually say "I ship them--just kidding--no I'm not", esp being buds as far as we know)
