And hey this may or may not be related to Dan's mood, but it just occurred to me that somebody with better eyesight and patience than I could probably sort these videos into chronological order based on the state of Dan's poor dry lips: chapped, splitting, healing, what day is it.

Omg no way, are you actually going to? Because like no pressure, but I think society as a whole needs it (or knowing this fandom maybe it's already out there).. Because I was honestly staring at his lip trying to figure out if that was the beginning or the aftermath of what he had going on in Impossible Quiz 4 but then I just started to get a headache and gave up. AND I was thinking about their weird water/hydration comments lately and wondered if it's like a teasing inside thing with them based on Dan needing to be better hydrated. There was a liveshow in like 2012 where they were talking about his chapped lips and Phil told him he needed to drink more water Clearly it's an ongoing issue

So i had a lookie and it seems the first 7 videos uploaded, Dan had really hydrated lips. Then I think the Bubble Bobble was filmed since his lips looked plump and hydrated. Then I think it might be the Press the Button because I noticed one side of Dan lip is beginning to split (or heal, its hard to tell tbh). Dance Evolution is where i see the first signs of cracking and after that I think they filmed Slender Special since his lips were still red but you can see signs of splitting. After that they probably filmed the Impossible Quiz since its when the lips officially split and lastly, Akinator since his lips are healing from splitting. ive never watched dans lips this closely before

It may be a hydration issue or Phil finally acting on his biting kink dreams

Sorry for double post but IMO the button video is most the recently filmed one, the lips look like they are healing rather than in their way to being torn.

And yea you might be right, I was struggling on seeing if it was healing but it looks like one side is healing while the other is completely healed. But how come all the events the boys went to, Dans lips looked fine...?? And agree with the stress biting- he looks like he does that alot and it can lead to tearing of lips.

it definitely looks like stress biting, i can relate sooo much cause i do it myself. i also know it becomes worse when lips are dry and it feels like your skin is just asking to get peeled off (TMI) - that's when lips tragedies happen i also think that slender was filmed after the impossible quiz bc his lips were still cracked but they looked like they were starting to heal. OR MAYBE NOT. jesus we really have a lot of time on our hands.

My two cents: we are seeing an existential crisis in development. If we time everything by looking at Dan's lips ( ) you can tell that he's been progressively biting them to blood. The way I see it Bubble Bubble was filmed far earlier and then something prompted the crisis, so instead of making effort to be his actual person he falls back into the dinof brand, because that's his coping mechanism. I wonder what happened, if it's the holiday season? It's peak time for break ups and suicides - I'm not saying that either of these things happened, it's just a time for reflection/going back to old places and it sounds like a plausible explanation.

If anything, the realization that tatinof, something they've worked on for two years of their lives, is now over might just now be settling in. That would honestly be the best explaination if what we're seeing is Dan having an existential crisis happening. He has no idea what to do next just yet. Maybe gamingmas was phil's own personally way of having himself go into that trench and possibly try to prevent Dan from it as well. But it's clearly not working if that's the case.

It might not even be the beginnings of an existential crisis though, it might be the stress from daily uploading. Realizing what needs to go into all this to make perfect and up before midnight. Sure they might have prefilmed lots of videos but how many did they preedit? It seems as though only a little less than half were already all set days if not weeks ago. But now that it's caught up, the stress might be getting to Dan and he literally just needed to stop and take a break in at least editing. The last two gaming videos seemed to have been edited (probably) and uploaded by Phil. And they've been barely making the daily cut off? Dan also hasn't interacted with fans on twitter since Sunday's video. I don't know, but to me, it seems like Dan just might be stressed out and needs a slight break from editing and constant interaction?

(slightly late to the convo, but sarcastic phil is my favourite so i'm gonna chime in)

This video didn't really do much for me (though 1 meh vid out of 13 is a pretty good ratio to be fair), but Phil in glasses always gets a thumbs up and I especially loved him at 8:42 with the "Imagine if I agreed to that [murdering someone] on the internet? Like 'yeah, totally'" something about his voice and smile there is just so great. Maybe it's just caused my mind to go blank and there are tons of examples, but how often do we see sarcastic!Phil? Because I love him.

I don't have much to add to your post outside of saying THISTHISTHIS. I meant to mention it earlier, but I think that comment from Phil was the highlight of this video for me. I like to see him fall back on what I personally deem "chill nights on the couch with Dan." It just sounds like something he'd naturally say without much thought to a camera or anything.

I just watched the video back and I take back what I said before about Dan being annoyed etc, he seems fine. No real cute 'phan' moments but we can't except that in every video.

I do think he is however tired and the stress of editing so much is getting to him abit, Phil has had a day off with his family to go to a wedding, also a family holiday to Florida and Dan really hasn't had time off for himself. Plus knowing fans are trying to hack you and stuff can't be good for your mental health either.

ETA: Phil looked so handsome, glasses make him even more pleasing to look at.

Regarding the current discussion:

I have no idea what y'all are seeing, Dan doesn't seem to be in a bad mood to me in the latest vid. He seems happy and playful to me. I enjoyed the video but it was much too short. Seemed liked as soon as I was getting into it was over. It was fun to see what they chose and what their reasoning behind it is, and how their answers differ from my own answers. Very interesting.

Someone else said earlier that Dan sounds a little sick/stuffy/hoarse in this and some of the other gaminging vids. Maybe this can help with the timeline issue. He sounds particularly stuffy in this one to me so I would place it earlier than the last few vids. But we also get a glasses!phil acknowledgement for the first time so I'm guessing this may be the first vid filmed with Phil in his glasses.

Idk what it is but I've also been obsessed with Phil lately. He's just been looking extra fine and being extra cute lately. Definitely developing a legitimate crush on him, and not like a celebrity crush. It's getting a bit out of hand tbh send help

How strange! Dan came off as very convincingly bad at the game compared to Phil, he did a good job at pretending he'd never played before. Maybe he hadn't played since that day, which was seven years ago, so couldn't remember how to play? Otherwise they're just cheeky liars

I do agree that there was a different vibe to this video, but I don't think it's a step backwards or something. Honestly, I didn't expect them to upload every day and so far they did. I didn't think that everyone would enjoy all of their videos as much as we did. And now there's one video that's not as cute and relaxed and phan as the others? Oh. My. God. I for one enjoyed it nonetheless. Is it my favourite? No. Will I rewatch it more than once? Hell yes! Everyone's so dramatic, not gonna lie, I enjoy it

I think sarcasm and salt is pretty big part of "real" Dan too, though? Reminds me of the best friend test thing where Phil commented about Dan being "always sarcastic and making jokes". That probably really is a big part of his sense of humor.

Realistically - if they're being more genuine, that's sometimes going to include bad moods. If they just constantly show themselves as relaxed and happy, isn't that just a new form of persona?

Do we want reality or just a different filtered view than we had before?

This I especially like the bolded part. If we are honest, isn't the answer yes? Don't most of us want cute phan action all the time, even if they don't feel like it and even if they aren't together? We say we want them to be themselves and comfortable, but maybe that isn't something all of us will always like. And that's something we have to accept.

I really liked the video. Probably because Dan didn't seem off to me, aside from a moment or two at the start when he seemed sorta tired. If he was in a bad mood, though, highlighting the incessant drilling right at the start of the video seems to me like a hint because, wow, it gets its own dedicated five minutes of fame and everything. (As someone who is prone to headaches and is sensitive to outside sound stimulus, I feel bad for them.)

Phil has forgotten about StampyAndPhilGames. "PhilAndPhilGames" sounds terribly lonely, Phil, unless you're going to start living with another Phil. Might get confusing for you and your prospective house guests, though.

Dan's insistence on Dark!Phil's off-camera existence amuses me. (Also, for some reason I read the scenario as "you have to continuously murder people in order to keep your immortality" rather than Dan's "you have to murder someone once". What does this say about me)

Phil's obsession with immortality/becoming a robot (or cyborg)/having his consciousness implanted into various things is interesting. Contrasted with Dan's acceptance of death as inevitable, I'm curious as to how serious conversations on the topic go down between them.

How would you feel if your best friend of 7 years who you live with and spend lots of time with was like "yeah id absolutely love to be alone on a desert island" and when you asked them "what about me" they didnt change their mind?

All things considered: If I were in Phil's place, and I had a best friend I loved and who loved me back like Dan (however you interpret that), and if our situation/our relationship was as close a match to Deppy's as possible--taking into account things like:

- the longest amount of time we've ever spent apart in several years is two weeks
- we Skype each other even during that time apart
- we've lived together for years
- we've holidayed together
- we (by all appearances) get along with each other's families, and we've celebrated certain things with each other's family
- we've chosen to combine our individual careers into a blended career to the point that one person's content apparently counts as content across the board for both of us
- when we're out at events, we're most frequently attached at the hip even when surrounded by other friends
- we spend so much time together and yet even a couple hours apart is enough to make us excited to see and speak to each other again
- somehow we're most frequently seen as a singular entity and we're okay with that
- our perfect social experience is limited to the two of us and nobody else
- we're still each other's favorite person despite spending so much time together, seriously; preferred companion in everything; "we" "us" "our"; we're constantly on each other's minds and talk about each other even when the topic should be self-centric
- etc., because you could probs add to this, but you get the idea

If all of this was true of a relationship I had with another person, and if they were to tell me they would choose to live on a completely deserted island all alone without me--I would be amused. Indulgently amused. I would understand that this is a hypothetical situation and that if the actual opportunity cropped up, my bbfl would be taking me with them to enjoy the serenity of an empty island together, because obviously that is what we do, and I would be the hardline exception to the no-other-people rule.

(Except, unlike me, I feel like Phil would argue Dan down to making it a vacation home rather than a long-term living situation, because unlike Dan, Phil seems to enjoy interacting with other humans.)

If I had a relationship like Deppy's in my life, with all of the above being true, after so many years I think it would take effort to actually feel insecure over something like that. If the hypothetical became reality, we all know Dan ultimately wouldn't enjoy not having Phil with him (he probs wouldn't even last long at all lbr), and if we know that then Phil certainly knows it.

I see where you're coming from, but I also don't know if I can assume that that isn't something Dan might say off-camera. I mean, we know that, of the two of them, Dan is the more asocial. As an asocial person, myself, with loved ones I care for dearly, I would press the button to live on a deserted island to live alone and my loved ones know that. While I know that in the reality, there would be serious drawbacks, in the hypothetical, it sounds like bliss to me. My loved ones know that I wouldn't actually go live away from them all on my own, that I just don't do well on my own, but they also understand that the idea of it is very appealing to me. I don't think Dan and Phil are any different. They've been best friends for 7 years; they know who they are and where they stand with each other by now.

Okay I know I'm MILES behind but I just need to say that I agree with this so much! Idk i don't really like the idea of getting mad at Dan for being in a mood because if anything I feel like people getting mad at him for things like this makes him even more persona-y. He is a legit sarcastic person and I know I say evil things to my best friend as a joke all the time, they know each other's boundaries better than we know their boundaries. To me I'm almost glad he was grouchy because I would be more suspicious if he acted like an affectionate bf 24/7. Actually as far as I remember there were a few instances where both or one of them pretended to not know the game but said something confusingly accurate at the beginning of the video which I only caught later on.
The only example I have rn is the katamari video where Dan pretends to not know about the game mechanics and is "shocked" about the fact that you can roll up pets and humans, but in the intro he says sth like "I guess you shouldnt have said sticky balls or balls covered in weird things animals and children"
If anyone has another example that'd be great bc this is nagging me now

This whole thing makes me wonder though. Did they lie on purpose or did Dan just forget the game or did they really play another version 7 years ago? Do they often act like they don't know a game when they do (e.g. impossible quiz where they probably already know they need the skips because of the spoilers)? What is the truth?

a) genuinely forgot that he'd played it but remembered some stuff later on

b) didn't want to bring up that past that they tried so hard to delete (I'm sure they are aware that those screenshots are not gone forever)

I don't see the need to lie, you could just say something else which is vaguely true, but it's dan, who knows

as for Katamari I never for one second believed he wasn't at least familiar with it because they have a damn pillow in the room now I do believe Phil may play the game more than Dan would, but yeah, again, I see no need to pretend so I'm not sure why he sees a need to either, it's not like it's more entertaining (to my eyes, anyway)
