Apparently he's still in his apartment, I thought he was already at his parents' house. He answered to someone that they are both editing videos right now.

Quick question...where did people get the information that it's their landlord's piano/he wouldn't be happy about them replacing it? Did I completely miss that this liveshow? I know it came with the place but for some reason I thought I remember Dan saying it was the previous tenant's and they just left it because it was broken/shitty. Or maybe that's Phil's bed I'm thinking of.

I have checked TATINOF as I knew they mentioned it in there and Dan said when they moved in he was told that the piano was 100 years old and had never been moved from his room in all that time. So from that I'd imagine asking to get rid of it would probably go down worse than asking to get rid of something the landlord had just bought himself for the place.
That being said Dan and Phil are no doubt paying a lot to live there so if they express they want rid of a piece of furniture to make room for something of there's I'm not sure he can make them keep it can he? I know I've asked if I can replace furniture that came with an old flat with stuff of my own before and my landlord just came and collected what I wanted rid of. Maybe it just depends on how nice your landlord is?
The only thing I know about D&Ps is that he doesn't like them putting things like shelves up because Phil complained about and I think he let himself in once while Phil was filming a video (which if I'm recalling that right is so incredibly inappropriate and probably not legally allowed).

This is a throwaway comment I wanted to say way back when they did the first Best Friend Quiz at the beginning of Gamingmas, but for whatever reason, I just didn't at the time:

Yes, Phil. Yes, you are. And I am living for it. (I was practically howling with laughter when I realized Phil was behind the tweet; what perfection )

actually, i thought he meant that in entertainment media, teenage life is romanticized, and that his adolescence didn't reach those romantic standards. so not that he didn't have romance as in a romantic relationship, but just that his adolescence was way shittier than how it was portrayed in movies and such if that makes sense.

also, idk, dan obviously has a pessimistic view about a lot of things, but i'm inclined to believe him when he says his past was shitty. he's the only one that knows what his life was really like, and if he says things were bad, then that's the opinion that matters the most imo.

and even if he is overly pessimistic when looking back at the past, then perhaps that pessimism is justified...perhaps, in reflection, he sees that even though he was oblivious to it at the time, his adolescence was actually lonelier/more miserable than he could've cared to admit.

and honestly, maybe despite having positive experiences, the bad outweighed the good. i'm sure his adolescence was complicated, as was everyone's, so even if he was happy with friends and a girlfriend, he could've had other issues going in his life, complicated issues, that we don't know about. all we do know are dan's words: he has said, on different occasions, that he wasn't happy in whatever way during adolescence, and i'm willing to trust dan's feelings and interpretations on his own life as i think his opinions are the most valid in this situation.

Good point. I feel we often have so little information that in our desire to better understand him we start analyzing every little thing he has ever said on social media and put on extra layers of interpretation on top of that.
I know I do and I have to keep reminding myself that there's no "objective list of criteria" to check that authoritatively "proves" one interpretation is factual. In a lot of these issues, it's the subjective interpretation of the person experiencing his teenage life / love life that counts, so it's his own words that i put most weight in.

But since we're all not judging but secretly judging ofc then we start to wonder if what he says is consistent. There are so many sources of noise on communication that can lead to misunderstandings. There's the trappings of language, the underlying emotional state of the communicator and the recipient, the subtleties of sarcasm and hyperbolic speech or ironic understatement. You have to take into account the motivations of the person speaking and you never know what they might be trying to emphasize or minimize.
I mean basically we are lost at sea.
But it's fun to try understand them anyway

I agree very much with both of you in this. I also think it's important to remember that our understanding of ourselves and our experiences can change over time. Something you might have thought was a positive event/experience at one point in your life can take on a different light with time and more experience. Also, you don't necessarily have to judge everything in your life definitively. There are events in my life that I can say on one hand were good for some reasons and not good for other reasons, and I'm just evaluating them for different things, looking at them from different angles, even though they're the same experiences; I think if Dan contradicts himself sometimes like that, that's okay, too.

Oh, that Barnes and Noble video is cute, though I thought it was from last year until they showed the book title, they seem so pre-baking video. I love Dan's snappy short & sweet reply with the three fingers as if he was asked for three ideas and actually chocolate covers everything you might want in life.

On the flat and not putting up shelves, I think it's a normal thing in a rented property not to be allowed to do things like paint or drill holes in the walls.

6.25 - “d: you know that?” “p: i know, you told me that.” “d: yeah, but i didn’t think you’d remember.” i love that phil’s immediate reaction to “how do you know that?” is just because “you told me.” not only does he know the answer but then gives the entire story. you can so tell that they really listen and remember a lot about each other's past stories.

i loved this ls and the mood dan was in, despite him being sick. some ls thoughts:

2.29 - dan is not in his room because it is too messy to tidy.
9.04 - “for lots of people out there you know they might have family problems or personal health issues. christmas isn't the perfect thing everybody wants it to be..” this was really nice to hear and i think this reason, in addition to what it means for them doing gamingmas, was the main motivation behind it. you can be cynical and say it was for the money and obviously that is a part of it, but hearing all that he said during this ls made it clear that gamingmas was meant to bring happiness to them and their viewers.
9.43 - “i’m tired, you’re tired. i could be making deep, existential videos on dinof right now but no, i’m quite happy making dorky videos on the gaming channel. it’s what i need right now.” i loved his attitude towards making dinof videos during this ls. he seemed like he wasn’t stressed about making them and right now he is happy about what he is doing on youtube with dapg.
12.53 - *sniff* “sniff” i love that both him and phil sometimes do this thing where they say the word sniff after doing it.
13.23 - “i feel like a lot of people don’t understand the branding joke.” i feel like this is true and a lot of people aren’t understanding what the “rebranding” joke/mentions are. it seems dan can't do anything without people assuming it is part of a new brand. to me, "post-baking-universe" means a change in their behavior to be more themselves and less of the brand they created leading up to tatinof.
16.28 - pete wentz unfollowing him on twitter story which i find hilarious if he was unfollowed for the “kink tweeting.”
22.09 - choking on a boiled sweet story.
27.47 - kanye discussion. very interesting and thoughtful answer imo. expressed what a lot of people are feeling right now about how confusing kanye’s actions are in relation to things he has said in the past and he has “temporarily unstanned.”

44.46 - “i just feel stupid when we don’t do things right. i feel like i’m missing out on all these easter eggs and it’s overwhelming.” i know the gaming channel does ruin their enjoyment out of certain games so i’m glad to hear that he is going to play the undertale genocide route on his own time just to enjoy it. i always wish they would play games with a story on the gaming channel but hearing his thoughts about how overwhelming doing games like this is, it makes sense that they choose not to do it.
45.25 - “i’m really looking forward to 2017..” it's good to hear that he is looking forward to the new year and seemed happy about having a stress free transition to the new year. having no huge plans for the future is probably nice after the busy year they have had. he could have been negative about things ending and having nothing to plan, but he said it in such a positive way that i believe it is actually exciting to not have a huge project and just focus on youtube for a while.

I have to say I didn't enjoy this video as much as the others. It might be because I find Undertale reaaaaaaaaaaaaally boring and pointless, but even they couldnt make that enjoyable for me.

yay for the end of Undertale! I am happy i was able to avoid spoilers, so now i am going to watch all of Jacksepticeye's run throughs lol!

I will say part of being a daily gamer is knowing when to end a series and i dont think this or Impossible quiz NEED another episode, but w/e like Dan said they are not a "real gaming channel", so as long as they hare having fun I guess that is what matters.
